View Full Version : Checked into CBR this morning: A full report!

Hi all!

We checked into CBR this morning around 10:30 am. There was QUITE a line and only two people at the counter at first. They quickly added 5 more CM's to handle the volume. The entire process took around 30 minutes. They had NO record of our room requests (through CRO) and I was able to talk the CM into giving us the room of our choice. I had originally requested Jamaica 45 or Martinique 25. Both were unavailable. She first wanted to give me a room in Jamaica but the LAST building and the room wasn't ready. Trinidad North building 31 is SMOKING so that wouldn't do. She ended up giving us a room on the second floor of Building 32 in Trinidad NORth. The location is PERFECT! We are VERY close to Old Port Royale, the building is RIGHT on the lake, with a bus stop behind it, and only steps to the quiet pool. It is just LOVELY. the room was ready for us immediately. It was spotless on check-in with the exception of a bottle of lotion that had been left behind from the previous guests.

I immediately called housekeeping and asked for an iron and ironing board. They were in our room when we returned from the parks a few hours later!

While Ted waited in line for check-in. I went to Guest Relations and booked a Fantasmic dinner package for TOMORROW night!

Bus service to MK and back has been FANTASTIC. I had my gripes about the AKL busses being too few and far between last November. Now, we get to a bus stop, and the MK bus COMES! We have had to wait no more than 5 minutes. The busses are VERY full, however, and they really cram us in!!! The rides are slightly uncomfortable depending on who is driving, and where you have to stand/sit.

Weather is HOT (mid 90's and humid!)

The crowds at the parks are moderate. Not too bad! All the rooms seem to be FULL here at CBR!

Do you have any questions?? I can try to find things out for you!

We arrive in a few weeks...Do you know if they still have a (calypso/reggae) band playing in the pm at PR? Also, is there a place to get pasta at the food court? We are travelling with two 16 yo pasta maniacs! Say HI! to Mickey for us. Have a magical & TIGGERIFIC time!:Pinkbounc

I'm not sure about the band, but we didn't go to Old Port Royale after we got back from the parks last night. We were there at about 6:30pm and no band. I'll let you know.

The food court has a pasta vendor called "Kingston Pasta Shop" there is plenty of pasta.

You will have a wonderful time here at CBR.

Glad to hear you were able to get a room in a location that you like! :)

I've never had a long wait for any bus while staying at CBR so I'm glad to hear that the bus service is still good!

I hope you have an excellent vacation!!!!!!!!!! :) Wish I were there, too!!!! :D

Hi Holly

We stayed in Jamacia 44 last April. Such a beautiful resort.

I hear on Paul Harvey news today that park attendance is up 27% over last year at this time at Disney.

Wow 90's and humid.

We just had a snowstorm yesterday here in Mn.

How was your flight?

....ressies for July (hope we don't experience a prob w/check-in, too) We requested Martinique 25 (w/3 adjoining or nearby rooms) . Should I change my request to your bldg? (also do NOT want smoking section) We will be driving in from NJ and plan to arrive by lunchtime....

We're still having such a wonderful time and are totally pleased with CBR! The busses have been FABULOUS again today! Everytime we get to the bus stop, our bus comes!

Sandy- No fridges in the room! You can rent a fridge for $10/day.

Herc- we are very pleased with the attendance. It has been "Healthy" but not unbearable. We're used to coming during the holidays, so this is a nice treat. This morning we went on Big THunder MT. 3 times in a row, then walked onto Splash, and could have gone again, but we were too wet. Then we went on Pooh with little wait, Space Mountain walked on at 10:30 am, went on Buzz with a little wait, and walked back onto Space Mt with a FP. We did all of this and were back here in the pool by noon! It is steamy again today, but the humidity is getting better! Our flights were good, thanks for asking. I got the Emergency exit rows I requested, and though bumpy, I handled the flying pretty well (with good meds!)

Kimmar- don't change your request! Martinique 25 has all of the same luxuries that our building Trinidad North 32 has. If you don't get Martinique, just beg like I did! It was surprisingly easy. The poor woman would have given me anything I wanted at that point just to get rid of me! :)

Keep the questions coming, this is so fun!

Do you have a coffee maker in your room? What size is it? (a 4-cup or a 10-cup??)

Also: are there hammocks near your bldg?

Considering this resort for May 2003 so this is all great information for me! How is the food court so far? And the other dining options? I get so tired of burgers and fries in the parks after 3 days. Is there any trouble getting chairs by the main pool? Any shady areas at the main pool? Are there people in the pool at 9pm? We like swimming at night. What time does the main pool bar close? Thanks for your help and glad you're having a great time! I'm in Massachusetts and it is freezing outside with snow expected tonight!

34 days and counting for me. I would sure love input on 2-3 prime locations so I can request ahead of time. I know about Martinique 25 from these boards (they are so helpful) and now I can add Trinidad North 32 to the list. Can you resommend any others? Have a great trip!!!!:smooth:

O.K., here's a question for you. When we stayed at CBR in 98, there was a store near the food court that also sold "groceries", bread, pb&j, lunch meat. which came in very handy for us one night when the food court closed early due to a water main break, so we had to sandwich our supper! Is the store still there? We'll be coming down 6/7, and my youngest LIVES on pb&j, which I make for her, and pack in her backpack for a quick bite in the park. WHen we were down in 00, and stayed at CS, they didn't have a "store" so we had to scrounge around to get supplies! If you could let us know if we need to bring all supplies, or get them there, we'd appreciate it! Wish we were there now!!!

Okay, here goes....

The coffee maker is 4 cup.

The hammocks are not directly in front of our building, but just a few steps to the left. There are two on that beach, which is right across the walkway from the quiet pool. We went back and forth between the hammocks and the pool all afternoon.

The food court has your burgers and such. There is a place with pasta, and last night, I had rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes and steamed green beans. That place also had turkey and other BBQ stuff.

We haven't spent much time at the main pool, but there are definitely some shady areas. There are TONS of chairs, you shouldn't have too much trouble. There are ALWAYS people in the pools, even as late as 11pm. The quiet pools in each area are better, but there are always people around.

The Banana Cabana (pool bar) is open noon-midnight weather permitting.

There is still a gift shop with convenience items at Old Port Royale. It is still there! It is called "Calypso Trading Post"

I'm STILL so very impressed with the busses. They are ALWAYS right there when we get to the bus stops. I swear they time it just right for us!

Crowds this week are GREAT! Walked onto Rock N Rollercoaster and Tower of Terror this evening. I couldn't believe it!

Ted & Holly-
We'll be going to CBR with 2 adults, a 13 yr old girl & 5 yr old son in June-
What are the best room locations for low noise & closeness to food & pool?

Do you have a fax # for directly to the front desk? thanks!

We will be there in 2 weeks. :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Is it really in the mid 90s? We live in Tampa and it hasn't hit 90 yet. We have had mid to upper 80's. I better be prepared with one of those wonderful squirt bottles with a fan attached. Bought it last year and works wonders during hot weather.

Your reports are making me anxious, I can't wait!!!

Thanks so much for answering the questions.

We've stayed at CBR twice...once at Trinadad North 32 the other at Martinique 25....
Both are EXCELLENT locations!:D

Do they still have the food court set up that you pay at each counter? I like it better at POR.....you can pay for it all together.

We had recording breaking temps last week.....85 :D
Yesterday it was 42 :( :(
So........we really CAN'T WAIT!!

CBR in just 44 days!!!! :D

What about the park hours??? did they stick to what was posted? Or have they changed day to day?

I'm in the process now of selecting a resort for 6 in October.
Cindyfan, great questions about paying at the food court.

My questions, I've only stayed at All Star Sports-5 times and 1 time camping in Fort Wilderness. Can you compare the food court to All Star food courts? Is there a nice selection in the gift/sundry store--mainly for my 6 yo dd?

Are there any bad rooms that might make you say, better to continue to stay at All Stars than to get these rooms?

Thanks so much, this is so great. Pixiedust to you guys on your trip!

Netmark- Jamaica and Trindad North are quieter and close enough to all the action with a short walk. I don't have a fax number for the front desk.

MadamG= Building 31 does not have a beach or hammocks. It is a smoking building. The beach with hammocks in Trinidad north is on the other side of building 32 and in front of building 33. There are two hammocks on this beach.

The children's playground is across the lake in Jamaica. I would request that area if that will be a priority.

Cindyfan- food court is still the same. You pay at each of the stations. Park hours are sticking to the schedules. They are no longer posted in the parkmap brochures. There are seperate slips of paper with all parks hours and show times listed on them for each park.

Fantasymagic- we have never been to the all stars so I can't compare. Maybe someone else can. As for places at CBR you DON"T want to be, I'd say Trinidad South because it is so far from everything, and there's lots of construction going on down that way with Pop Century and a new golf course? The gift shop has a little bit of everything!

Dismom- Pack your sunscreen!!!! You are going to need it. DO NOT bring warm clothes, they will never leave your suitcase! It is SOOOOO very hot down here!!! Temps today are in the 80's but it feels just as warm as yesterday when it was in the 90's. Have a safe trip down here!

We've had a great day! Ted made it into the hot seat at WWTBAM and got up to 32,000! What a blast! Disney/MGM studios was pretty busy today! Bus service is still OUTSTANDING!

It's so nice to hear that everything is going so well! I will be leaving one week from Saturday and I can't wait!

How were the crowds today?? Last year in May they were not so bad except for a few long lines at MK. Is the hotel really packed? I requested a room in Jamaica or Aruba near the bridge to OPR. Which area is nicer in your opinion? I will be requesting one of these two areas.

Thanks for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Have a good night!

We booked our ressies for CBR for end of July (can't wait!!!!) and we requested Martinique....how far is bldg 25 from the beach and hammocks?? (Since we will be driving to WDW in a conversion van, I'm thinking that maybe I should have requested Martinique 26 instead)

Will be checking into CBR in 18 days!

I have never stayed there. I am trying to compile a list of the good locations. We have 3 dk's (dd8,ds5,dd2). We would like to have it all - be close to the food court and bus stop. I would say being close to the bus is the priority but I could be conviced otherwise. (I just remeber carrying sleeping children from the bus to the room after e-ticket night last time).

So far my is from Ted and Holly's thread here is ....

1. Trinadad North 32
2. Martinique 25
3. ?
4. ?
5. ?

Sherrie= THERE IS a beach near OPR on the Trinidad Side. I consider it an OPR beach and not a Trinidad beach. It might be a TAD closer than the real Trinidad beach for people staying in Building 31.

We stepped out of our room on Tues night to see the Epcot Fireworks. You could EVEN hear the music. I'm not sure if you can see them from all over the resort, but they can definitely be seen from Trinidad! There was a large group of people sitting on the grass by the water watching. I didn't realize JUST how close to Epcot we were, until I could hear the music. The only thing we couldn't see was the globe.

Jamaica 45 is the same distance from OPR as Trinidad North 32. You just have to walk across a bridge. 45 is a non-smoking building, and I don't believe there are any parking lot views, but someone else can confirm this.

Last night we spent some time at the Banana Cabana. The main pool was still packed at 11pm!!! THe ducks walk up to the tables at Banana Cabana and eat right out of people's hands. HINT! If you want beer, buy it cold from the gift shop and bring it out the the tables, it is about HALF the price of the food court or Banana Cabana. Mixed drinks at BC were 6.50!

The gift shop sells FUN NOODLES for use in the quiet pools. I couldn't resist!

Bus service is still fantastic! Last night we ate at WL and waited for a bus from that resort. UGHHH! It took 45 minutes to get to EPCOT!!! I've been spoiled here at CBR, the busses LITERALLY pull up to the bus stop when we get there! Longest wait has been 4 minutes!

As for the construction to the LEFT of the resort, on the parking lot side, we are taking polls of the bus drivers. ONE said it was a golf course, the other said it is an access road to Pop Century. I'll keep trying to find out. I wonder how many answers I will get!

Okay, we're off for another fun day! Weather has cooled off, and the crowds have INCREASED! Epcot was MOBBED last night, and rude people tried to squeeze into our spot for Illuminations, then tried to tell me off for "saving" a spot for Ted, who had gone to get me a funnel cake! SOME PEOPLE!!!! Was I supposed to let them take it, and tell Ted to go find another spot when we had been there for an HOUR and these people think they can walk right up before the show and get a decent spot? It drove me MAD!!!

We be Jammin'

We are arrirng in 8 days! What are the views like from Trinidad North? I don't mind a parking lot, as long as it's not right there (like a motel). I'm glad you can see Illum. from the beach. My DS hates fireworks! I will have to leave with him right after TOD!

You are bringing back such great memories for me!!! I was at CBR last May and just this past February. Views from building 32- There are some GREAT lake view rooms, 3250's and 60's. There are also views of the courtyard, and a few of the pool (from a distance). I don't think there are many parking lot views. We are set closer to the water than the parking lot. The views of the lake have Jamaica in the background. VERY pretty.

Doing laundry this evening. $2.00 to wash, $2.00 to dry, and $1.00 for soap. The laundry area is at each quiet pool. It is nice because you can swim while you wash.

I'm not sure what the Martinique quiet pool looks like. We haven't been down that far. It was recently rehabbed. The Trinidad North pool is simple, but nice. We have spent a good deal of time here.

Construction: Bus driver #3 said it is an access road for non-disney property... they have a right of way or something or other. She also said some of the land was going to be used as a tree farm???? I don't think we'll ever get to the bottom of this.

Trinidad South and COnstruction= we can hear the machinery from here, It may be worse at TS as the construction is closer. It probably isn't terrible, just in the distance. Trinidad SOuth is WAY out there and always the last bus stop..... make sure that's what you really want. When we were here 2 years ago, we wanted quiet and REALLY regretted Trinidad South. It was too far out there!!!!

BUs service is still FANTASTIC!!!!!

Seaspray- it was your website that inspired us to book CBR for this trip. In fact, I was singing "holiday road" as we entered Epcot today, remembering your website and how happy we are to be staying here! Glad we could give YOU some fond feelings in return!

This coming vacation will really be a special one - there will be a total of 18 of our extended family members visiting WDW!!! Not only that, but it will surely seem like TWO vacations instead of one, because the 2nd part of it will be spent at WL, so it will feel totally different.....Thanks for all the great posts!!!:sunny:

I just started getting interested in CBR, have only stayed at All Star Sports and camping.

I saw some pictures of the inside of the Barbados rooms on another website. Are they all as colorful? They look wonderful.

Also, is there any advantage to staying at the other side of the resort, away from the buses? I see a lot of references to Martinique and Trinidad, but never any to Barbados, etc. just wondering about the other side.

Thanks and pixiedust to you guys for doing this for all of us.

I have pictures of what the rooms at CBR used to look like and pictures of what they look like now :) To see the old decor, click on my "family vacations" link below, then click on May 2001-CBR. To see the new decor, click on the CBR link below. This CBR link is also on the main page of my "family vacations" pages. :)

You hear a lot about Martinique and Trinidad North because those two villages flank Old Port Royale (which is where the food court, main pool, restaurant, shops, etc are located). There are bus stops at EVERY village :) So there is no village that is "away from the busses".

I hope this info is helpful! :)

Hi guys, We're Back!!!:(

We got home on Sunday. It was VERY hard to come home. We haven't been on the DIS because we've been recovering.... it was one of those vacations where we played too much and need another vacation to recover!

The crowds REALLY picked up on Friday and Saturday! Saturday the 27th was the BUSIEST all week! We were in MK with our neighbors and it was mobbed.

Weather at night was cooler after 8pm but still warm. I NEVER once put on my jeans all week!! It was too darn hot! I'm so glad I didn't pack a lot of cool-weather clothes!

By the end of the week I got really sick of rude people. My threshold is small. I was so sick of stollers smashing into me on the busses, and of people cutting in front of us for parades and fireworks. On our last day, we had a table at Pecos Bills for lunch when the parade began to go by. We stoood up to see through the fence, and some family tried to push us out of the way. ANother woman put all of her garbage on our table where there was STILL FOOD, and another woman walked by and took all of our napkins! I was ASTONISHED!!!!! It was like that all week. There seemed to be an abundance of people from one particular country (I won't name it) and it seemed like whenever we had a problem, it was them.... I hate to generalize. Ted thinks it is cultural and that because the population of this particular country is so large, that they are used to pushing and being overly aggressive because they need to do that to survive in their country. Whatever it was, I was ready to be done with the parks. I could've stayed at CBR forever, though!

We took lots of pictures, and We'll post some maybe this weekend once we recover... it is one of those weeks! ANyone want to take me back with you???

I brought my laptop to CBR so that we could download our digital pictures each night and we could watch a DVD on the plane.... the internet was just an added bonus.

I have a free MSN account for a year that I got when I bought my laptop. I got the local MSN numbers from wdwig.com and just plugged my modem into the room phone jack. IT was a .75 call each time, but worth it as I could check my email and keep in touch with the woman taking care of our cats.

HINT! Not all resorts have two phone jacks, bring a splitter if you want to keep your phone and your modem plugged in at the same time and not have to keep switching.

...I'll have to remember that when we leave (guess I can pick one up at Radio Shack or Comp USA). So,the phone plugs are assessible? (they're not behind a large piece of furniture that you have to move?)

Ted and Holly, I loved to read your post! My husband and I checked in to the CBR 4/21. After a quick stop at Target for food and supplies we arrived at the Custom House at 2:15. I could not believe how long the line was. This should have given me an idea of how crowded the parks were going to be. We stayed in Jamaica bldg 42. I was disappointed because of a strong smoke odor in our room. This is a no smoking bldg. I called the front desk to switch, my husband who was hot and tired from hauling all the things to the room was not willing to move. Housekeeping did come to spray, then had all bedding and linens changed while we went to the main pool. They also brought in a air purifier which really worked well. Smoke smell eventually went away, why do people have to smoke in no smoking areas! The pool was very crowded but we were able to find chairs.
We spent 4/22 at MGM in am, walked on RNRC and TOT, made our rounds to many attractions, really no waits, but did use fastpass a few times. Enjoyed Millionaire game alot. Spent the afternoon at our quiet pool, very relaxing. We went to MK for light parade and fireworks, I could not believe how mobbed it was. Went on very few rides, still very warm. Left the park before fireworks ended but did see tinkerbell.:) I had a light dinner at CBR food court, my husband bought a beer but wished he would have gone to the store instead of bar. ($2 ,$4 at bar)

4/23 Went to AK in am again very crowded, fast pass for safari, new area and rides are cute. Had to stand for Lion King even coming 35 minutes early.
Went back to MGM in eve, Fantasmic was good, but mobbed, is it always like that? We went to last Millionaire game that night, Ted is that when you were in hot seat? We also were able to walk on RNRC.

4/24 Blizzard Beach, really loved that. What a great park. Had a blast. Dinner off grounds, then Disney Marketplace. Beautiful weather, very warm but SUNNY! WI winters are too long!

4/25 checked out and went to SW FL.

sorry so long, maybe we shared a bus ride with you two? Really liked your post. Judy:cool:

At CBR the phone jack was behind the middle night-stand type table. It was awkward to keep pulling out, but not heavy.

At AKL (because it is new) there was actually an extra jack next to the table. CBR and probably most other resorts do not have the extra jack. At Coronado Springs, the jack was also behind the night stand. We didn't have the laptop then.

We have TONS of pictures. We WILL post them soon! I wonder if we did run into each other, jwwi! A woman I work with was at CBR all that week and I never once saw her! That amazed me!

My CBR highlight was the pleasant surprise that I got when we stepped out of our building for a jaunt to OPR and saw and HEARD Illuminations at Epcot! We had skipped out of Epcot early because of the heat, sore feet and full bellies from Alfredos. I was sad we were missing the fireworks, but ended up seeing them anyway! I LOVED THAT MOMENT!!

Working on Pics now!
