View Full Version : Taking pictures of Disney Pins - Help

I am selling a number of pins on Ebay. (I am not a dealer, just an impulse buyer when it comes to shiny objects.)

I tried to take pictures of them with two different cameras (Canon SD1000 and Canon IS S5). In both cases, the pictures either came out blurry because I was too close to the pin (macro function did not help), or they reflected the flash and washed out.

Does anyone know how to take a picture of a pin so it's clear? I put them on a neutral background. Would I have to stand farther back and crop the picture? Would it be better to do it during the day so no flash is involved?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

When taking a picture of shiny things I always find it better to take the picture at an angle not looking directly at it. I think I took this one with the macro setting, with flash, at a slight angle, and the dark background worked really well.

Use a tripod, the camera's timer, and the camera's macro setting. If autofocus doesn't work, use manual focus. Turn off the camera's flash. Shoot the pins straight on. Light the pin with a lamp or some other light source at about a 45 degree angle to the camera. If you find it difficult shooting down on the pin, attach the pin to an upright sheet of black foam from Wal-Mart's crafts department.

Thank you! Will attempt both and see which comes out best!

A non-photographic answer...

You can just put it on a scanner. Sometimes it helps to attach it to paper first, but not always necessary.

I was just going to say the same thing. Personally I find it easier this way :goodvibes
