Disney Makes Improvements At Campground

POSTED: 7:50 am EDT August 25, 2008

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Walt Disney World is making the largest set of improvements in the last two decades to its Fort Wilderness Campground.

The Central Florida theme park is in the process of adding extra-large camper pads for recreational vehicles, cable-TV and Internet service, Segway scooter tours, a mini-water park, a dog park and an improved electric-cart rental operation.

Jean Gallagher, the campground's general manager says the area hasn't seen many improvements in its 37-year history, mostly because of the traditionally rustic nature of camping. Gallagher says the new upgrades will better meet the expectations of modern guests.

LOooking forward to those larger pads. Our screen room usually hung off the side and let water in when it rained. I just hope they don't destroy the feeling of separation between the sites.

I was just there and it looked like they have widened the pads on the 500 loop. No more crushed shell. It looks like they still have to add in the sewer, electric etc. as it looked like all they done is widened and paved most of the 500 loop. :) The segway tours are already in place and the dog park is open, though it was very wet from all the rain. No worries though as their is a hose to wash off the pooches right at the entrance to the dog park. Nothing has been done to either of the pools yet.
