Good beach hotel near LAX

I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice on where to stay, close to beach, near LAX. We are planning on a Southern CA trip and with all of the horror stories I hear about traffic I want to spend the last two nights of our vacation at the beach, but near the airport, so we don't miss our flight!!

I originally wanted to stay in Huntington Beach, but it seems pretty far from LAX according to my map. I wanted to either stay at the Hilton or the Hyatt. We leave at 11:00am on a Sunday morning. Would it be safe enough to leave by 6-7am and make it to LAX, dropping off a rental car, etc.? Or would it be better to stay in Redondo, or somewhere near there? But it doesn't seem like the hotels are close to the beach in that area. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Marina Del Rey is close to LAX as is Manhattan Beach. Even Santa Monica isn’t too far.

The Foghorn Harbor Inn is nice and not too far from the beach. And there is a Marriott, Omni and Ritz-Carlton in Marina Del Rey.

I'd say you're lucky.........Sunday morning is the lightest traffic in Los Angeles, the city doesn't wake up until noon. You should easily be able to get from Huntington Beach to LAX in just under an hour on a Sunday morning. Rental car return is really quick but you do need good directions back to the car rental company as they are not all right outside the airport or easy to find from the freeway.
