Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!
New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

4 steamy, slimy miles for me this morning. Focusing more on biking right now so I can look respectable in the duathlon.
Angie...have a great cruise! Smuggle 12 packs and bottled water in your luggage...really expensive on the boat. Get to the port early. If you get on the boat as soon as it opens, you can have lunch, explore and get settled.
Tracy...have a great time at DL! Can't wait to read your race report!
Howard...congrats on your pace!
Cam...yikes...hope that ear infection gets better quick!

I have decided that there's something magic about my running shoes. I have been getting up early to run most Saturdays now for nearly 4 years. I slog through trying to get ready for the run, wondering what I'm doing every second...until I put on my shoes. I don't know what exactly happens, but once I tie my shoes and stand, I feel sleek and powerful and fast, ready to takeon the pavement. Anyone else have magic shoes?

Tracy wins the gold medal for posting first, getting her bags packed, nails done, money in her wallet, and probably her boarding pass already printed out. :lmao:
Mel, magic shoes, where does one buy those? I need some, I need some now, I need some fast!:rotfl2:
I will be doing my last 16 mile taper on Sunday morning. I gotta ease up before next weekends 5K and half. :rotfl:

Angie -- My two "MUST PACKS" for every cruise are bonine tablets that I take every single morning regardless of whether I THINK I'll get seasick and an over the door shoe holder to put in the cabin on the bathroom door to keep lots of shoes and clutter organized. Have fun dreaming of your departure!
Mel -- maybe that's what I'm doing wrong. Putting on my shoes right before I walk out the door is doing nothing for my attitude the whole time I'm getting ready. I think I'll start putting them on as part of getting dressed. I am so glad you are feeling so positive, Mel. You have come such a long way and you continue to be such an inspiration to me.
Well, Howard went for a run -- 10 miles, I think. I've promised myself I won't do anything today but crunches & pushups and weight work here at home. I am feeling so lousy with this ear infection and chest congestion. I am going to entertain myself working on our vow renewal stuff. Not quite a couch potato, but pleasantly close! ;)
Enjoy your Sunday, everyone!

Mel - can you start an order for magic shoes? :rotfl2: I seriously need some! I always hate what I am doing for the first 1-2 miles, after that I can go forever. It's just that first darn mile or two.
WISHers will be happy to know I left the bail fund intact. ;)
Wasn't for lack of trying though! :rolleyes1
If anyone is interested, I have a video clip of "Here Is Gone" that I put up on youtube last night.

I had a good run this morning. The longest I have run since last fall. Think I was sweating more then I could take in. I was really having to push the last few miles to hold pace.
18.1 miles, 8:35 average pace, 143 average HR. My max HR is 184.
I hope everyone is having a great week. The plan calls for 72 miles for me this week.

GOOD AFTERNOON TEAM
Thanks for all of the advice on the cruise. Believe it or not the thing I am most worried about is just ENJOYING it. I know you guys will never believe this but I tend to try to want to make things so perfect I end up having a hard time enjoying them. YES DUMB I KNOW!!!
Shan Unfortunately we are NOT going on a Disney cruise but it will be fun all the same (or so I keep telling myself)
You guys, PLEASSSE PLEEAASSE keep your fingers crossed that we get our 8 in tonight!! I will let you know how it goes.

Did my 6 miles for today that is part of taper for DL. Yes, as Jeff has stated, I am almost packed up and ready to go. Watching Olympic coverage for the last day. I think I will have withdrawal afterwards, I always do.

Cam - hope you're feeling better. Sending  your way.
David - Awesome job!:thumbsup2
Tracy - good job on your 6 miler
Angie - Have a great time on your cruise. I was just talking about the possibility of taking another cruise. They're so much fun!
Jeff - WTG on your 16. I'm rooting for Hawaii, too!
Just back from a week's beach vacation, so I missed all of last week's thread. And I know I'll never catch up. Well, I'm officially a triathlete! :cool1: I finished a sprint course yesterday- officially! The clock time was 2:08 when I crossed the finished line, but I think my chip time will be around 1:56. I was the 6th wave into the water. The official times haven't been posted on the website yet.
Let me tell you, I thought I was gonna die! The water temp was great, but the waves were coming in fast and the current was a little strong. By the time I got out to the 1st buoy, I was spent. I started to panic and hyperventilate. :scared1: A LG came by to see if I was ok. I hung on to his board until I could settle myself and then I was able to finish the swim. I was thinking it was me, that I just wasn't prepared enough, until I heard some of the elites complaining about how hard the swim was. I think my bike time was pretty decent, but by the time I got to the run (out and back on the beach) I pretty much walked the 5K. It was tough and my legs were sore for the rest of the day, but I had fun and if I did, indeed, break 2 hours, I'll be thrilled. When the times are posted, I'll let you know how I did.

Here are the results of my LR today. I ran this one at a slower pace so I could go the distance. I wasn't really worried about pace today (for a change). I ended up running 12. In hind sight, maybe I should have done 10. :headache:
Miles: 12.0
Time: 2:03:50
Pace: 10:19
Splits:
9:01
9:16
9:42
9:11
9:18
10:32
10:19
11:59
13:01
9:11
11:04
10:31
I ran a different route today which crossed a lot of roads and intersections. At the 4 to 5 mile area, I ran through a wooded area I have spoken of before (The Northern Delaware Greenway) that is rather hilly and unforgiving. I ended up walking up many of the steepest slopes, thus the slower paced miles. I got out around 9:45 am in 73 degree heat and 81% humidity. It was in the high 80's soon after my run began. It was a scorcher on the pavement with little or no shade to help me. This was my second longest run since school ended at the end of May. My longest was 12.6.
This week alone I ran:
Monday: 5.04
Tuesday: 6.03
Wednesday: 5.04
Thursday: Rest
Friday: 7.03
Saturday: 6
Sunday: 12
Weekly total: 41.14 miles.
I am donating blood tomorrow so I will be taking a day or two off. I think I deserve it.
Have a great week!

Just wanted to start off by saying Good LUCK WISHers heading to DL 1/2.
Tracy - I am also watching the closing ceremony for the Olympics. I too will miss it when its not on. I think this time around I am more emotional and addicted to the Olympics because since I started running I know what it takes for them to get to the Olympics. That's not to say that I watched it less any of the other times (I used to think I was more of Winter Olympics type person but I am starting to like the Summer even more)
Terri - Congrats on being an offical Triathlete!!!
As for me I did 7 miles yesterday morning. Had to cut it short (and go even earlier - started at 5:30 AM instead of 6) since my DH needed the truck for work - I had to be home by 7:15. I was already steamy at that hour. It has been WAY humid since Fay left. It was too hot to even be outside today except for when I was in my sisters pool!!!

Sign me up for an order of the magic shoes. I like my shoes but magic they ain't! I'm usually too busy cussing as I'm putting mine on. It's not until I get to the course that I get excited and get anxious to start running.
Actually, you WISHers are my biggest inspiration right now. I've been a member for a month now and have run 92 miles in that time. I had only run 68 miles total in the two months prior to that. Add to that another 63 miles this month on the bike I hadn't touched in more than a year. You are a very motivating bunch and I can't thank you enough!
I just ran my longest run to-date today. It was 11 miles at a 10:14 pace. It was on a school track and was easier on me than the paved trails I usually run. I can't wait until my first 1/2 in less than two months.

GOOD MORNING TEAM!!!
Just wanted to pop in and say that after a rediculous thunderstorm around 6:30 we got our run in after all. I was a little scared of this one because the last time I tried 8 was when I almost gave up on running all together.
But I am happy to report it went VERY WELL!! Little to no pain :cool1: and with all the stopping and walking still averaged a 10:30 pace!!!!!
Will be back to catch up later.

Angie -- I was sending pixie dust your way last night. I'm so glad your 8 went, and went well! :cool1:
Jeff -- awesome miles there! :thumbsup2
Steve -- So glad you are here and inspired. We all seem to take turns being somewhat needy of encouragement but it is amazing how there is always someone here to inspire and encourage. Your miles are so impressive! Keep up the great work!
Tracy and all our other DL participants -- Enjoy the last of your taper and the cross-training/strength training of packing! WISHing you all an awesome trip and fabulous race!
Terri - Congratulations on your TRI!!!! Woohooooooo!! I am so happy for you and so proud of you, girl! You ROCK!!! :woohoo: :yay: :cheer2: party:
As for me, just crunches, pushups, etc. yesterday before I passed out from some tylenol sinus nighttime -- somehow I missed that I took the nighttime version and next thing I know, I have NO recollection of getting myself to bed.
This morning was a session with my personal trainer at 5:30  then additional 10 minutes of crunches, double crunches & lower back machines, then 30 leisurely minutes on a bike with a good book. Not sure what the rest of the week holds because Andrew (DS15) starts school tomorrow and we are moving Jenn (DDturning20nextweek ;) ) back to campus Wednesday. Hoping to carve time out for some miles and some on-my-own weight training (gotta justify the dumbbells and workout gloves I splurged on last week). :)

Terri - WTG on your first tri!!!
Angie - so glad your 8 miler went well.
Jeff - Great job and yes, the inspiration and support here is what has kept me going, too.
Tracy - finish packing yet? You are going to have a great time!!
And to all the WISHers heading to DL - Run/walk your best and enjoy!!
As for me, LTO this weekend so did not get in any walking/biking - only had time to get done what had to be done. I have new shoes to try out so will get in walk and weight work tonight.

HI WISHers. I haven't been around much lately. Last week we were in WDW during TS Fay. It was WETTTTTT!!! We had lots of bad things happen which made it one of our worst trips ever... but we were at WDW, so it was way better than bad things happening to us at home.
Tonight I did 15 minutes on the rebounder and 20 minutes on the TM. I was really proud of myself as this summer has been very difficult and stressful for me.
Mel - GIMME YOUR SHOES. Actually I get that feeling also and it is pretty magical. Some days I will admit it's not there. But the days it is, I feel great. I felt that way tonight, but I think that is because my workouts and running hasn't been where it should be. Putting on my shoes tonight made me feel powerful!
Cam - Oh, feel better soon!!!!!! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
I am a little behind from last week since I was gone, so I am sorry this is short!

Jen - bummer about the rain. But like you said, a bad day at Disney is still better than a bad day at home. :)
Tracy - I'll keep my fingers crossed that Gustav stays away from you.
Cam - Hang in there. Sending more pixiedust: your way so you'll feel better.
No training to report today. My tri results got posted. I finished in 1:53:31. I'm happy that I broke 2 hours. Even though I'll never be a speed demon (and I know it), I'm still competitive (even if it's just with myself). So it was a little humbling to look at the results and see that I was last in my age group (although not DLF for the race). At least now I have a starting point to improve upon. The winner finished in 47:50  Shoot - my run (or walk) was 47:46. :rolleyes1
Here were my splits:
1/4 mile swim 13:43 (thank God I didn't drown)
T1 - 4:55 (it was tough getting the sand off before I put my shoes on)
Bike 10 miles - 45:03 (approx. 13.3 mph pace)
T2 - 2:04
Run 3.1 miles -47:46 (15:25 mpm)

Terri -- Awesome job finishing in less than 2 hours!! :woohoo: Just think of how you'll do next time! :goodvibes
Jen -- Good job getting back in the game!
Liz -- I hope your new shoes were magical and worked out great for your walk last night.
Tracy-- :yay: You must be getting so psyched!! BTW, clever girl doing the toes before the race. I have not enjoyed having pedicures after 2 races. My toes were just too tender. For January, I am doing a spa pedicure the day BEFORE the half marathon!
Ran my 2 miles this morning, though not real fast. The weather was absolutely perfect, low 60s, sunny with a nice breeze. I've gotten into the routine of running 2 or 2+ miles Tuesday and Thursday and doing a longer run on Saturdays (this past Saturday was 4.6 miles) and even though I'm not racking up the miles or burning up the pace, it feels great to be in a routine of sorts. Still doing crunches & pushups and some weight work for obliques/core each night, too, in addition to strength training with a personal trainer and some time on the recumbent bike (usually an excuse to read a good book). I am going to try to get back into a routine of elliptical and treadmill incline training, too. Just have to figure out how to make it all fit, once I know what day I'll be working with the PT. I feel like, with school/marching band season getting underway, I will have less control over my schedule.

Mel: gee can I borrow your shoes?? I wanna feel "sleek, powerful, and fast". I do enjoy my pudgy, weak, and slow miles though--it's fun racing the butterflies!
Jeff: "5K and a half" Now is that a half of a marathon or a 5K? :donald:
Cam:pixiedust: for that ear infection. You sound busy busy even so.
David: Whew be careful there. :cool1: Get those fluids in!
Angie: I complete understand the perfection problem there! If you start getting too stressed about it just put on "It's a Small World" on loop until you are delirious (really any disney song works!). ;) Yay on getting the 8 miles in! :cool1:
Terri: :thumbsup2 :cool1: Great job triathlete!
Howard: Whew you definitely deserve a day off!
Tricia: I know what you mean on the humidity...sometimes it feels like I'm going out for a swim rather than a run!
Tracy: I'm rather hoping Gustav will come into the Gulf too, so that's two of us.
:mickeybar
Well I'm back at school for the fall semester. It's nice to be back where there is quick internet (at home we have slowww sloowww sllllloooowww dial up). I may go crazy with all the readings I have to do for classes, but I have Goofy as the light at the end of the tunnel! This was my first week of official training, and it's nice being back on a schedule. On a sad note my Dad isn't seeming very excited about this trip to WDW. When we went two years ago he was very disappointed because there wasn't much new (he used to love innoventions at epcot) and both splash and rockin' were closed. So the trip is getting curtailed by two days. Still disney is disney so I'm happy.
I got in a 4 mile run today with sprints and I'm about to go to a dance class!
Random question: are there any wish socks? I have some that I love, but they are getting pretty ...broken in.
Is there a schedule anywhere of all the Dis meets for marathon weekend?
Happy running!

What would you estimate the temperature to be at 5 am, 6 am, 7 am, and 8 am? I plan to be done with the half by 8 am, so you better pre-order me some morning fog or clouds. :lmao:

I did 4.25 tonight at an 8:55 pace. It was nice, the weather was misty and overcast and it was really nice for running. I'm working my way up to the 10k (my goal is a sub 9 minute pace/ my 5k is currently at an 8 (just under 8) minute pace).
Good luck to everyone heading out to Disneyland!! I wish I was with you!

It's a "wonderful. wonderful day", as Jane Powell sang in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (you young'uns can look it up on imdb)
Maybe I finally got the IT strap positioned properly because I did my 3.27 miles today with no pain in my knee. I'm still only doing a 6/2 run/walk for a few weeks just to get my legs back before starting serious trianing for the WDW 1/2, but today felt great. I also ran a 9mpm pace--another reason to do the run/walk combo. Thanks deekaypee, I believe that was your idea from a while ago.
Left the gym and saw the most breathtaking sunrise--the kind that makes you just inhale in wonder.
Got to work and my boss, who is French, gave me a bag of delicious candied orange peel from a little place in Nice as a thank you for swapping cars with him on his vacation.
So "I feel good" (Okay, I am supposing evereyone knows James Brown). Let's hope the rest of the day stays this way!

To all the WISHers headed to DL - good luck and have a great time!!
Well, had work issues last night so didn't get out of here until late. That trashed my bike ride since it was way too late by the time I got home and still needed to eat dinner. I'll just add a shorter ride to tonight's schedule.

Carol,
What would you estimate the temperature to be at 5 am, 6 am, 7 am, and 8 am? I plan to be done with the half by 8 am, so you better pre-order me some morning fog or clouds. :lmao:
I packed my running gear and bags. Just a few items left to get before flying over on Thursday night.
WISH team, I'll see you either Friday or Saturday night at 7 pm fronting Jamba Juice in Downtown Disney, or I'll shout out at you while out on the race course.
5 am ... Dark! and I was asleep so no report
6:30 am. Light slightly overcast. 64 degrees according to the TV
7:30 am Slightly overcast 67 - 69 degrees (varied by TV station!)
Have a good run everyone!

HELLLLOOOOO Fellow Wish Team Mates!!!
Maura: So glad to hear that your IT band helped you and it sounds like it did the trick!! Yeah!! Great pace on the running/walking. Just for you I will say that tomorrow afternoon I'll be "Leavin on a Jet Plane......":lmao:
I am hoping to get about 3-4 miles in on my way home from work tomorrow before I have to head to the airport at 3:30 EST to get settled and then wait to load the plane. Will pass the time by finding some place to eat dinner, people watching and reading. Then load the plane and off to a 5 hour flight!! UGH!!
Fingernail painting is happening tonight and of course the color is Flourescent Green!!! Yes!!!
Probably won't post after 9:30 tonight until I get to CA.
Take care all you WISHers and Glad you all talked my into flying out to CA and doing the DL Half Marathon!!! I blame all of you people!!!:thumbsup2

I did my Minna Lessig toning DVD, the one where it varies 1 min. exercises - so it's different every time.
Anywho, I set it for 24 mins. That probably 35 mins. incl. warm up & cool down.
I am finally on a roll and I don't want to lose my momentum!
For all those going to DL - HAVE A BLAST!
This was my first Half in 2006 and it holds a special place in my heart.

Didn't note the exact temps this morning, but it was cool and overcast at 7:30 when I walked to the office (hotel is in the same complex)
It's a little humid this morning however.
I got up and did a few miles on the treadmill..... that room is really HOT!

Getting ready to leave work - I am without internet access since I did some searching on my home computer for something for work and ended up getting a nasty virus (that will teach me to do my work at home on the weekend!! LOL) so I am hoping to get my computer fixed this weekend. I am going to the Kenny Chesney concert tonight so no training for me tonight. I am not worried though since I ended up getting 5 miles in on Monday and 6 miles in on Tuesday.
Hopefully I will be able to get back on the internet this weekend or else I might have an internet related nervous breakdown. LOL I am so addicted.

Good luck all you DL halfers. I did it in 2006 and I loved the race. It is a little different than the WDW runs since most of it is off property but it is a nice fast course.

Aloha!
I spotted Robert & Linda, Susie & her husband, Lexifern, GoofyinOhio, and Pat all at the expo. Lines were sort of long, and people were getting irritated for how things were set up. Oh well, can't please everyone.
The Coast to Coast medal!!! Don't you WISH you came to the race now??? :lmao:

Jeff - I have serious medal envy now. That medal is so cool. If they didn't change the date after the inaugural year, I'd still be doing this event. I just can't get away on Labor DAy weekend.
Good luck everyone!
