Spending Money

I'm really stuck trying to figure out how much spending money we're going to need.

When we went for 6 days in June, I budgeted £100 a day for the 5 of us and that was for meals too, but I felt like I under budgeted and that we were really watching what we were spending.

This time we've already got the half board vouchers, so wont really have meals to pay for just snacks during the day, plus we want to visit RFC so will have that as well. But apart from that it's just souvenirs, hot chocolates/coffees etc, drinks, treats and things like that. I want to treat the kids (will be 7, 5 and 16 months) without worrying if I'm over spending. Do you think if I budget the same again - £100 per day that we could spend comfortably?

Or maybe I could give the kids say €100 each to spend on whatever they please and that's their own spending money and we don't buy anything for them (except drinks/food etc obviously)

How much do you guys all take with you? I'm talking about those of you who like to spend btw ;) :rotfl:

Ok i'm hoping to take 700Euros but thats because ive budgeted the for the most expensive meals lol.

I can't really comment on what you should take the spend because everyones spending habits is different. I like to take enough so that i come back with money if that makes sense lol.

I think its really hard to say, as its completely down to you and how you like to spend your money.

We've got HB plus vouchers for our next trip but because of the places we wish to eat we will need to buy a little extra. I then add one 10euros a day incase we want lunch- which we dont normally- but i like to over cost, which comes to about 200euros. Other then food my other half wont buy and thing but I will - i normally take about £100 but i never spend it all. But like i said it really depends on what you likely to spend on.

Yeah I guess it is kind of difficult. I just know that I like to spend money :lmao: so really no matter what, I'll never have enough :sad1:

One possible option would be to take a conservative amount, but also take lots of sterling. That way, if you spend what you have, then you just change a bit more up, without having to worry about coming back with too many extra euros.

I guess that practices stems from when I first went to Slovenia 2 1/2 years ago and they weren't using Euros yet - I couldn't get their currency in the UK, so I had to take sterling and change it all over there.

Actually, now I come to think about it, I was considering doing that thing where you leave your credit card imprint at the hotel reception and then just pay for it all in batches of €200 or whatever it is. That way it's all on the credit card anyway. I'll just put the money I save into my bank account and pay it all into my credit card when we get back. That way if I do go over a bit it's not a big deal anyway because so long as I pay it before the month is up there wont be any interest on it ;)

I'm a bit like you and like to have a budget for food and then one for gifts, treats, etc. Fortunately we brought 200 euros back after our last trip but that was purely because extended family came and every time I wanted to buy something I got the third degree about whether I really needed it, etc. I like the idea about giving your children their own little budget, we do that with our son but dd is only 2 so we kind of apply the same principle but we obviously control it for her. I get totally carried away and love to buy things, especially all the photos but I have learnt not to rush off and buy them immediately as the more you buy the more you save ;) I also tend to do some xmas shopping when we're there also so I have a separate little budget for that also which dh doesn't really know about !!

DD will have some spending money and i have told her that if she manages to stay dry and not wet herself she will get a big present before we come home.

A big present, to Kyra, doesn't need to be a mega-expensive one though Emma :flower3: . I think its great to reward her if she stays dry, maybe think about getting her a "big girl" kind of pressie? Like a bracelet or something like that? You know, not a "toy" as such, but something she can still play with? Doesn't have to cost a lot.

I don't think you'll run out of money, unless you go shopping-mad.

I spend on average £70 per day at DLRP, thats for one adult, one child. DD always gets several souvenirs (usually including a large cuddly), we don't scrimp, we have counter-service meals at lunchtime, and we always have a table-service meal in the evening.

Dtr bought a really pretty bracelet for 5 Euros - made up entirely of bead Mickey heads. They were available in lots of different colours and I think most girls (big or small!) would love them. Sometimes there are little bargains to be had.

I must confess I had given us a very large budget for this trip, but I guessed it would be the last family holiday we may ever have :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: as my son will either be off to Uni or out in the real world of work by this time next year. So I budgeted for nice meals and lots of souvenirs. I just sorted my paperwork and reckon I spent about £400 - £500 less than I budgeted for. :banana:

the little bracelets are sweet, we got dd one on our last trip which mummy shares ;) and it's lovely, you can get them in a variety of different colours too !

There is such a wide range of prices too. This week our meals ranged in price from 85.65 Euros in Annettes to 199.20 Euros in Inventions. That's for 3 adults and 1 child.

yeah i know i want to eat at the better restaraunts. i may as well enjoy myself this is my first holiday ever!!! but the teenagers just want mcdonalds, well i might let THEM eat there lol

We are going on a super budget trip. Can't help it really as i've been on maternity leave for a year and am not back to work for another 3 weeks and we're saving for a house etc so i've had to do some serious number crunching for our upcoming trip.

We have £80 a day for food and souvenirs. And we can't go over that. That's pretty much just for me and DH as we're bringing most stuff for our baby.

We get free breakfast at the Dream Castle and only have to pay for lunch and dinner and we only have the Plaza Gardens tea party and Cafe Mickey planned for table service restaurants. We will have an annual pass which gives us 10% off food and in the shops so i'm hoping to stick to this budget.

Luckily we love hot dogs so I imagine we'll be in Casey's Corner once a day :cool1:

You can get very reasonable sandwiches and rolls from the shop inside the train station for your lunch - and if you're buying bottled water then it is MUCH cheaper there. If you fancy a burger and don't have a big appetite then a children's meal at the counter service restaurant is a bargain.

A big sit-down long drawn out meal is not often an option when you have a baby anyway - unless you're baby is very very patient. :laughing:
