I was just having a nosey through a brochure I picked up from the travel agents the other day. I think it's the official DLRP brochure.

Anyway, it has on a few pages that the tea party is in Plaza Gardens (nothing unusual there), then I was looking at the page with all the meals with characters and it's got tea party at Pizza Planet (until 6th November 2008 at Plaza Gardens)

Does that mean that the tea party is definitely changing to Pizza Planet??? I was really looking forward to going back to Plaza Gardens for it, I thought the setting was great and suited the tea party theme perfect, not really sure it'll be the same at Pizza Planet :confused3 :sad2:

I would assume so and agree with you, I think the setting of the plaza gardens is much better suited.

I suspect they're moving it to try to regenerate interest in Pizza Planet which (as far as I know) isn't generally very popular.

Ah yes, you're probably right. However, IMHO they'd be much better re-thinking Pizza Planet and leave the tea party as it is. It's put me off doing it the tea party and I quite fancied trying the Pizza Planet, but as 2 seperate things. I don't think Id want to do the tea party there, just wouldn't be the same :sad2:

I was just thinking about this the other day - I wonder if they will theme the tea party more to the Toy Story/newer Disney characters when the party moves to Pizza Planet?

I've been to 3 different Character meals, and to be honest, the characters which come out at the tea party don't differ much at all from the ones who come to the Lucky Nugget, or Cafe Mickey.

I'd be very interested in doing the tea party at Pizza Planet if Buzz, Woody and Jessie were there :goodvibes .

That would be good.

I think the disadvantage of the Plaza Gardens is that it is open for normal meals at the same time - or it was when we did the tea party. Half was for the tea party and half for the normal buffet. It was only separated by a rope and there were children in the normal part looking longingly at the characters and shouting to them. I bet they get a lot of disappointed children when they see them going to other children but not to them

Ooooooh yeah that would be good actually, hadn't thought of that. OK I take back everything I said before. :rotfl: I actually think that would make a huge difference and would definitely bring more customers to Pizza Planet ;)

Yes, I agree with you there. I thought it was very sad seeing the other children waiting for the characters to visit the other side of the rope :sad2:

Pizza Planet really needs a bit of an overhaul (especially the toilet areas). It would be great to have a Toy Story character party.

They have held character tea parties at Pizza Planet before. We went to one during our first visit to DLP 10 years ago. All of the characters were from Toy Story and the restaurant was only open to tea party guests and not serving the usual menu. It made for a different experience to the characters we met at the character breakfast.

I went to one of these as part of the 5th anniversary celebrations.

Seem to remember i got in a play fight with Woody aswell, not too dignified for a 19 r old there with her Uni mates.

Nothing wrong with play fighting the characters - especially if they start it...

I got in one with Gideon from Pinnochio in Inventions. He pretended to cut my hair off, so I returned the favour and pretended to cut his off :rotfl:

Oh I do hope they do this again, that would be great!! DS (and DD1 actually) LOVES Toy Story :) And it would also solve the problem of the other non-tea party kids being left out.

Jessie makes me cry every single time when she sings "when somebody loved me" - every time :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:.
I even cried when that song was played at the Disney on Ice version of Toy Story 2.

Would you not even do it just to see the different characters? Can't say Buzz does it for me either :rotfl: but I'd be keen to go, just because with the other character meals it's always Mickey, Tigger, Sherrif etc that kind of thing, so to see Buzz, Woody, Jessie etc at one would make it worth while for me.

But that's enough about me :rotfl: the kids would also love it

Toy Story 2 on Ice was 4 or 5 years ago - it was either the first year we moved down to Nottingham, or the year after that we saw it.

Even though i thought the film was ok, I just can't stand the characters. Seriously dining with Buzz and Woody would be one of my worst nightmares. They freak me out.

Now if it was a Monsters Inc character meal then I would so be there, tho DD would probably would'nt be she is scared of my big cuddly pal Sulley.

OK so it's not just that you don't like them, but they freak you out :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 I get it now! I'm like that with the white rabbit :confused3 :rotfl:

I do like Mr Potato head, he is cute :goodvibes

I have tried to explain to DD that Sulley is not a scary monster and he is one of the good monsters but she refuses to believe me. Which means i'm unable to get a Sulley hug as the minute she see's him she demands we leave...quickly :lmao: :lmao:

That sounds just like my DS. I feel him grabbing onto my leg and he just slips in behind me and starts pulling me in the opposite direction, bless him, he's so easily scared (and yet he THINKS he wants to go on ToT :scared1: )

I think i may start a petition of a Monsters Inc character meal. I mean Buzz has his own ride, Jessy and Woody have there own little meet and greet place and a spot on the parade and My Sulley has nothing except his little meet and greet in WDS.

Yeah there's not much Monsters Inc at all is there? I'd imagine a lot of kids would freak out if they did a character meal though. They could do a cool rollercoaster/similator. You know that bit in the film, when they're trying to find Boo's door and they're going up and down and through all the doors? They could base it on that and have Monsters jumping out and stuff :rotfl: it would certainly scare the hell out my DS

Funny you should mention that. They're thinking of building a roller coaster themed to that very scene at the Florida Studios park.

Aw wow!! :lmao: that'll be ace. Any idea when this is planned to get built? We're not going for at least another 4 years, so hopefully will be there by then?

They were playing it one day this week somewhere in the Park (can't think where now) and my dtr turned and said "Oh dear. Mum's going to start crying" She thinks it's really funny.

Taken directly from the screamscape website that I read:

According to the latest report from Jim Hill Media the Pixar themed coaster project is back on again for 2011 now. The good news this time is that it may be a much bigger and better ride than the old idea of cloning Crush’s Coaster with a new theme. According to the article, the winning concept is actually a new inverted coaster concept that will recreate the “hanging doors” theme from Monsters Inc. The idea is that the coaster will run through the huge door storage area as seen in the film, which has been installed with numerous large yellow scream/laugh energy storage canisters. Other fun ideas also mentioned include retheming the Honey I Shrunk The Kids play area to have a new A Bugs Life theme in the near future as well.
This isn’t the first time I’ve heard about a Monsters Inc inverted or suspended coaster idea, but the last time around it seemed like management was more interested in the more family friendly spinning coaster design used for Crush’s Coaster in Paris. Of course it was also a cheaper and smaller alterative to what was pitched for the Monster’s Inc themed coaster which was aimed at being quite a bit more thrilling. Of course the idea of a Monsters Inc ride to capture coaster ride’s screams also goes back to a proposed dark ride concept that I believe was first pitched for Disney’s California Adventure in Paradise Pier. The idea was to place an inverted dark ride system (similar to Peter Pan) in a building under and behind the park’s California Screamin’ coaster (right where Toy Story Mania is now) that would serve as a giant energy collector for the Monster world by harvesting all those screams from the coaster above. Right now I’m just going to cross my fingers and hope that this latest Monsters Inc. ride concept gets the green light.

I'd love a character meal with the Toy Story characters, I'm seriously addicted to them and have been trying to srrange what times I have to be at Woody's Roundup Village to meet everyone!

We would like to do the tea party when we are there (hope it is the toy story characters, our son LOVES them).

To book the tea party. Is it on every day (in Mid December)? and most importantly are we able to book it through the concierge at our hotel (HNY) or do we have to pre book it before we arrive?
I know you can prebook it before you arrive, but we don't know what day we want to go, so was wondering if we can book it whilst we are at Disneyland?

Thanks

In theory, yes you can.
I was disappointed though in early June (midweek, low season) when I tried to book the tea party on the Monday morning, for Tuesday or Wednesday, and could only get a slot (and there were only 2 in our party) for Wednesday at 5pm. This was no good to us, as 5pm latest was when we had to leave the parks for our journey home.

If you really want to do the tea party, I'd say book in advance, before you get to your hotel.
