Now that the £ is starting to slide against the Dollar, I was wondering what people's thoughts were for 2009 Currency ?
One idea I have thought of is to load Nationwide Current Account with 2009 £'s and withdraw money from ATM's in USA in order to get an extra 4% odd on the exchange rate.
What is everyone else planning to do ?

We go in Apr 2009,and we already have our spending money sorted.I know people will say 'but you're losing interest by it not being in the bank' but i am happy to know that, that part of my holiday is done+dusted.I have a fairfx card and loaded that when it was $2 to the £ :thumbsup2 .I also bought $$cash from them when it was $1.95 to the £ :thumbsup2 .The rate is dropping rapidly and is expecting to drop even more.If i do need more cash when over there i will just withdraw at a machine for a charge of $2-no big deal.x.

We change between £200 and £300 each month depending on what we have managed to save. We go in December and thankfully already have more than enough which we got at a rate of between 1.86 and 1.92. For the first time, didn't change any up this month as the rate was $1.75. Am hoping it will improve as we literally change it up on an ongoing basis as we know we will just spend it the next time. I like doing it this way as we don't miss it.

hi

yesterday i phoned around and we go in three weeks time the rate seems to be slowly going down, i phoned one who was only willing the exchange rate of 1.82 - £1 but i phoned a local thompsons who i told them i had an internet exchange rate of 1.84 could they beat it, she rang me back and said as long as i got them today she would do $1.85 - £1 i got $1600 for £868.37, i thought this was a very good rate post office are $1.79 at the mo.

I just loaded up my Fair fx card at $1.82 when I realised it was falling.

Having said that my last trip in 2004 had an exchange rate at the time of under $1.40 So for me I can only do better than last time.

Until the crunch sorts itself out and we get shot of our Labour govermnment, I think it will stay low. With the USA election soon, they will have a new president, and who ever it is, the USA will have a feel good effect I think for a short time after too, keeping the $ strong againts the £.
So I cant see the £ rising back up anytime soon:mad:

Blimey ! The exchange rate was $1.90 when I went in 2004 - did it fluctuate that much

I was fortunate enough to benefit from the leftovers of 'my' rugby clubs' LA/Vegas tour fund & got all my spending money for this trip at $2 : £1 :thumbsup2

I don't think anyone can really know what's going to happen with currency exchange rates, yet a lot of people seem to think they do.. :confused3 We prefer to only get a minimal amount of currency and use credit cards for most spending and Nationwide debit card if we need more cash, more for security reasons than anything else. Personally i'm not in a position to be buying dollars now for future trips so it's not something i'm even considering, i'll buy them when I can afford them and if that happens to be when the rate is lower then so be it. I guess we've all been spoilt having a 1.90+ rate for so long but realistically it was never going to last forever.
