Hi there! I didn't see a private message from you. I'm new at this "PM" thing so there's a good chance I'm doing something wrong. I logged in and clicked on private messages. Is there some other way to access them? :confused3
Once I get this figured out I can compile a list of families participating in the FE. As far as I can tell the count remains at 3 families - 6 adults & 7 kids (3 girls & 4 boys). I'll check my PMs again later today.
Happy "almost" Friday to everyone! :surfweb:

This may be our second Disney Cruise, but in many respects it still feels a lot like the first time. I am still very exited. I am still a little nervous. I still don't know what ALL to expect. The only thing I'm sure of is that it will be a good time.
I saw on one of the other posted navigators that they had a tequila tasting "seminar". I am unfamiliar with tequila and would love to attend a tasting. I've done the beer and the martini, and will probably do them again. I am going to search/lurk around the other postings and see if they have one on the Western. If any of you hear, let me know. Gee, I might even start my own thread - wow, what a concept. I might finally have something to ask!!:woohoo:

Heading to IKEA this morning to see about getting an over the door shoe organizer, suction cup hooks, etc. to help keep us organized on board. I told my family not to expect too many home cooked meals between now and next Wednesday...too much to do...too little interest in cooking! I'm already in vacation mode!

Everyone start crossing some fingers- our sail away forecast is looking like rain. Maybe as the day gets closer the weathermen will change their minds.:sad2:

I just ran the 15 day forecast for Grand Cayman and it looks rainny most of our days. But, in looking at the actual rainfall, most days had less than a 1/4 of an inch, with 50% or less chance of the rain/thunderstorms. We are many days out and forecasts are notoriously inaccurate.
It's the Carribean. We all want to get in the pools, beaches. Bottom line, we will be in bathing suits wanting to get wet. In the spirit of the closed Adventurer's Club, I shall carry on, drink in hand. Kongaloosh! [or, does that begin with a "C" instead of a "K"??]

That doesnt sound bad- it may be so hot sometimes that a little shower may be a nice break to cool us off! My kids are only worried about one day anyway- Castaway.

Since I am a nervous flier, I am more worried about storms when we land in the plane than on the ship! I think it is good that the ship can move around and hopefully catch us more sunny spots than not - here in TX it has been a drought so it only figures I will have to leave the country to get rain, while my grass wilts in the hot TX sun.
And those drinks will help w/ whatever we encounter, that's for sure! :lovestruc

My package of goodies arrived this week at the DCL Dist Center so lets just hope it doesnt get shipped on the 8/1/09 cruise
Good thoughts appreciated:littleangel:
Speaking of weather. thanks for the forecast. I thought it was going to be "hot as haiti". I am not even packing a sweater, only a rain pancho. Any other tips?
Can you guys send me a personal message? for some reason I dont have enouph "posts" to SEND messages. but if you send me a PM then i can respond.

I got my answer on the tequila seminar. There are two of them on the western - maybe the eastern too. I must have missed them on the last cruise. See, I told ya' all that this cruise is like a first cruise all over again. So many new things to explore and find out about.
So, after embarkation, it'll be easy to find me,I'll be the one running to the counter to book the tequila tasting!!:rotfl:

I just checked the thread I started on the tequila tasting. Somebody has mentioned that there are mojito flights at Signals. Never heard of it. There is a request for more info on it. I'll pass it along as soon as I find out anything.
Wow, I'm beginning to worry about myself thinking of all this alcohol. I have been balancing it with trips to the food picture thread. The drinks may be nice, but I'm really looking forward to the food. And relaxation time!! Where's the little icon with the face in a hammock?

I'd like to know what that mojito flight is also?
One more week and we'll be getting ready to board! At this time next week we'll be on the plane on our way to Orlando!:dance3: I'm hearing that six flags dancing old guy music in my head.

OK, today I'm going to see what fits in the suitcases and garment bag. We leave at 5am on Friday so I'm going to see what I can get around this weekend. We have misty mates we use when we go to "the World" and I'm trying to decide if there would be a need from them at all on shore excursions, thoughts anyone? I'll pack em if we'll use em!
Bugs Life Lover, I've also sent you a PM. One more post and you can reply :thumbsup2
Now where did I put that packing list....
kimgg
08-01-2009, 09:18 AM
I'm not sure what misty mates are? Can you beleive we are going on DCL but have never been to WDW or DL? Originally we were supposed to go to WDW this year w/ my stepdaughter and son in law, but she got pregnant and is due in Sept so we had to come up w/ other plans - I really did not want to do WDW in the summer (too hot and too much walking) so I got the kids sail free email and decided on DCL. We'll be going to WDW for Christmas next yr when my new grand-daughter is 1. I can't beleive I am going to have a grand-daughter, I'm not that old and my kids are still in elementary but I've embraced it and am so excited.
Anyway, today I need to start seeing what all will fit in our suitcases also, so far I've stuffed everything I've bought for the cruise over the last few months in them but need to start packing clothes. I'm thinking about ironing and starching even the cotton/knit t's and stuff to help prevent wrinkles and using drycleaning bags - I don't want to have to iron on the vacation at ALL if I can help it. I still have a list of stuff I need to get - I'm off Wed and Thurs so I'll do last minute stuff then but don't want to be rushed so I need to get started today. :wizard:

Three days to POFQ, one week until the Magic. Woo Hoo.
Anyone know if there is satellite TV onboard the Magic? As a died-in-the-wool Cubs fan I need to know if I can catch a game or two while I'm sailing...nothing would be better than a tropical drink and a Cubs' win! I haven't missed a game all season.

I believe there is satellite TV. Not 100 percent sure though, since I don't watch TV much. i remember seeing people watching sports.
We are also staying at POFQ. We are leaving tomorrow morning. We will see you there. It is just my daughter and myself. Look for us!

Welcome home Elcka and welcome Kimber!
I think if we decide to meet 3 pm on the first day would actually be good so maybe we can introduce our kids to each other so they will have a familiar face if they go to the clubs. I will have to run it by my husband, he may be skeptical of meeting "strangers" on our vacation, :rotfl: , but we'll see.
For those of you leaving soon, we'll be right behind you and whether we meet or not I am sure we will meet back "here" to swap stories after!
Wish I could do the FE w/ you all but I hurt my knee last week, so I am moving slow and I would be the one doing the deliveries and now I am not sure I'll be able to make it on the boat much less up and down every deck! But have fun!

I'm up for meeting on the first day. If we want to follow suit with the previous DIS cruiser meeting at the Promenade Lounge at 3pm (right before the mandatory drill) will be OK with me....anyone second the motion?
I'm about 75% packing complete. I don't know how I'm going to focus on work all the way through Friday when my mind is already on the ship!!

I haven't go to every page of you but one person was in charge of the FE and made a list with screen name, name, kids ages, cabin numbers (very iomportant) and celebrations if any (bdays anniversaries, first cruises) the day of the meet is also good to update the change of cabins (upgrades) for the FE exchange, the person in charge of the meet should go to guest services and request a easel to post the sign or you can bring tape and tape it to the glass in Promenade Lounge, they are very helpful.

As we all knew, the forecast for the weather has changed. I used Grand Cayman as a point of checking. We have gone from only one or two days without rain to only 3 days with rain:
Saturday 8/8 45% chance;
Monday 8/10 40%;
Saturday 8/15 52% chance.
All the other days: "more sun than clouds"
AND, it can change again so I'll keep checking.
As to any meets, that sounds fine on the first day. I'll probably be wearing my green Mickey head pin. DW found a fruit set that included a lime colored Mickey head. Since the green is the color of the boards, she bought each of us one. Hopefully, we are not all so scattered and busy on day one. But, I agree, getting the kids to meet on the first day is good for them so that they have somebody. As to meeting strangers, unless you are traveling with many family, we are all going to meet some strangers on the boat. Okay, maybe not strangers, just old friends we have yet to meet.
Only a few more days now.

Hey Danzma, for August at WDW in Florida, a little rain might me nice - it is SO hot - I've never been to Florida (yet!) but I live in south TX which is supposed to be similar. Hey, on a lot of rides you get wet anyway, and when we used to have Six Flags here on a hot summer day you would ride those first to get cooled off, so look at the rains that way. From what I hear in Florida, the rains come and go quickly so hopefully it won't rain TOO much.

Welcome Kimberh!
Our 5 year old was just trying out the snorkel equipment for the first time in our pool. Now he's got the hang of it and can't wait to go look for some fish in the big blue ocean!
I just realized my best laid plans for arriving at port weren't quite perfect. We pick up the rental around 10 am so we are supposed to drop it off around ten am. That means the whole family, luggage and all, will be on the shuttle since I couldn't drop them off at the port before returning the car.

Kimberh, stop by home depot and get a lime green Disney paint sample - it is a Mickey head. Cut it out and glue a pin on the back. Works well. I think that is what DW and I used on our first cruise.
Hey, a lime green post-it with a quarter and two nickels for outline might work too.
DW printed out the pirate Mickey hat for the door. It came in two pieces. I had the task of cutting it out of the magnetic paper. DS also found a wonderful Donald Duck on the web looking appropriately upset with the statement, "I'm not going home!" I can't believe he's already planning for disembarkation. Put that one on a magnet as well.
There is a thread with all kinds of door designs to put on magnets.
Had to post also to keep us on the first page of the meets.

I am looking foward to meeting you ALL at the Promanade area. We will work on making some lime green mickey heads pins to identify us. I am traveling with my sis-in-law and bro-in-law with their kids so we will be a party of 4 adults and 3 kids.
My 4yr year old cried his head off last night during bath-time when he found out that is cousins were off to orlando 2 days early without him. He literally CAN'T WAIT.
Those that want to join the FE ( fish extender ) group let us know ASAP. FE is a fun activity of dropping off treats for kids (some adults) to their stateroom. The treats are placed in their FE. Most are homemade.
Just a Kid I hope to send you a PM today with my stateroom info. Thanks for education. THanks for the weather reports.

Ha! Am I packing? Funny you should ask. I'll say this - my suitcases are all open in the same room with me and there is stuff in and outside of them that needs to go inside of them! Does that count as packing? In reality I'm on here and facebook and avoiding getting ready for bed. I'm beat.
Today was my last day of work and I am off for the next two weeks so tomorrow I will try to make more progress - I know pretty much what I'm bringing - or want to bring - just not sure how to fit it all w/o paying too much for baggage!
It is 11 pm here, but I normally am up til midnight myself - for no good reason.
And yes my husband gives me "the look" when he comes and sees me on the laptop. I also have to stay up b/c my son lost a tooth and I'm the toothfairy. :rolleyes1

OK, I'm giving up for the night. Have fun "toothfairy!"
My son has a tooth that is about to fall out any day- he is worried the tooth fairy won't find him if it comes out on the ship. I told him not to worry- the ship is MAGIC. (We call him shark boy right now, the other tooth is already in behind the one that is hanging on!)

OK Me too, I may have to set a little alarm so I don't have to stay up too late. My kids have taken it upon themselves to stay up much later this summer than I normally allow, but after the cruise they will only have 1 weeks to transition to a normal schedule before school starts.
Don't worry, my younger son lost a tooth at the hotel the night before his sister's wedding and he was the ringbearer. I was SO thankful - otherwise the pictures would have all featured his front baby tooth hanging by a thread :rotfl: . The tooth fairy found him just fine - she is magic indeed!!
Good night! Good luck to everyone w/ packing!!:hippie:

Welcome runninkeys, and anyone else I've missed in the past few days. Runninkeys, glad you found the meet board.
I just got off the phone with DW and had to keep her from clobbering DS(15). He couldn't find any shorts to wear golfing - so he went into the (as of last night) finally packed suitcases to find a pair. He left two shirts on the floor in his wake of ploughing through things. If he keeps this up, there will only be 3 of us on the cruise. Does cruise insurance cover for not going due to a funeral when one of the parents kills the kid???
On that note, we were finally packed as of last night. Now, not so much, just a couple of things to add. But, ready to go. The counter states 2 days till we leave. I can hardly believe it. As excited as I am, I don't feel ready.
My problem is I will never remember who is who on the boards compared to actually meeting you on the ship. Look forward to it. If any others have the same issue, I answer to "hey you" frequently.:goodvibes

For those of you who are families of four - would you mind telling me how many suitcases/carry-on's you were able to pack in to? I am stressing on how to fit in everything. Clothes are one thing, but everything else takes up so much room! I have one suitcase w/ almost nothing but the kids shoes, tote bags for the beach, and sand toys. I am now realizing those sand toys maybe were a bad idea - they were cheap but take up too much room! :scared1:

We are a family of four and we are "sticking" to one suitcase per person. With the airlines charging $15 for the first bag and $25 for the second, we agreed there will not be any second bags for anyone! We're not taking any beach toys, only one pair of goggles for each kid. I learned to pack the most comfortable clothes and not the ones you THINK you might wear. Shoes are pretty bulky so I try to stick with outfits that minimize the number of shoes needed. On our last cruise I found myself wearing jean shorts and t-shirts most of the time (minus the dinner attire). My husband is a lite packer and that also helps.
Good luck with packing. I noticed you and BuzzMom were up pretty late last night chatting. After about 11pm I'm a walking zombie!! See you Saturday!!! YEAH!

OK well now at least I know I'm not crazy - I thought maybe I was overpacking. This is our first family vacation longer than a few days, and first time flying w/ the kids - SO, we don't even have enough luggage at this point! I have one very large suitcase that we will have to check, the rest can be carry-ons so we will each have one of the largest bags that can be officially a carry on, plus a duffle, backpack, or in my case purse, each. And on the way back, our seats are in the VERY back of the plane. FUN!!! I can see the rolling eyes as we come down the aisle, hopefully we won't be the only ones with all this carry-on luggage. I am still prepared to go buy another big suitcase tomorrow to check in if necessary, nothing like last minute shopping.
Welcome teens and if for some reason I don't make it to the 3 pm meet (I always seem to have something come up when I make plans) I'll look for any green mickey heads or you'll know me as I'll be the one limping, I hurt my knee last weekend - it's my wonderful luck right before vacation. :upsidedow
Yeah, and BuzzMom, I have a lot of ironing to do (I hate ironing) so I'll be up late again tonight and taking breaks to catch up on my internet goings on, so I may see you then! ;)

We're keeping it to 1 suit case each. And, one carry on. I realized my shoe dilemma two days ago. Black suit for formal and semi-formal night and brown pants for dinner. I don't want to bring black shoes, brown shoes, gym shoes, and sandals for the pool and beach. So, looks like long brown pants for dinner with gym shoes.

Yes it was awesome. Sorry I missed the meet - my kids were in the pool and my husband was napping (I never nap on vacation, but he seems to enjoy it, and he didn't sleep much night before) and the only way I would have made it would have been to drag my boys dripping wet, pouting and glaring and it would not have made a very good impression I'm afraid. Funny how even on a vacation that costs me over a month's salary my kids don't miraculously turn in to perfect angels? :littleangel: They still liked to get their way and fortunately for them, they mostly got it. We were on vacation, after all!
Hope everyone had as much fun as we did!! :wizard:

ditto for me on sorry about not making the meet. We laid down and then I over slept. We took 12 people. We had a great trip except for a problem with the Vista Spa. My grown son's gold chain fell down behind their cabinet while they were doing his massage. Two days went by and still they had not done anything to get a carpenter in there to get his chain. Anyway, I spent the last night of my cruise getting someone to actually work and guess what, they produced the chain! I had to get firm and tell them I was not leaving the ship without it. After that conversation, It took one hour to find the chain. All the money they charge, I just expected more. I am writing a letter. The manager was RUDE!! She didn't have any intentions of getting a carpenter in to find the chain. Just kept telling us to file a complaint with the land dept.
Besides that, we had a good cruise. I sure hope everyone else had a better experience!!!

Best vacation I have had in a long time. We have the next 2 years June of 2010 and 2011 scheduled for the World. Now, I'm thinking of maybe a Mediterranian cruise in 2012. Okay, it'll take about that long to save for it. But if I start planning now, maybe I can even learn enough of a new language too.
The only disappointment I had was that there were NO CHOCOLATE STRAWBERRIES TO BE FOUND IN THE COVE!!! However, the almond cookies at The Cove almost made up for it. I gotta find the recipe.

Had an AMAZING time..hope all you did, too. Back to work this morning and we couldn't be more bummed out. It was a dream vacation! Not sure we'll ever be able to top it. My son was so upset after the farewell show he just cried and cried...he SO didn't want it to be over and neither did we. Hope everyone had safe travels home. That early breakfast seating on Saturday was a killer!!

You are so right, Sat. morning was brutal - then we had to sit in the Orlando airport for 5 hours - but those Chili's chips and salsa sure tasted good. We are used to our Tex-mex food - I did NOT miss it (but it sure tasted good when I tasted it again) - I really loved all the food, loved trying new things. The Creme Brulee was SO SO good!! I also had a chocolate covered key lime pie in Key West that I have to say was the best thing I think I have ever tasted. I read someone said they go to key west just for their key lime pie and thought that sounded crazy but I actually can see doing that now, it was THAT good.
We also went to sting ray city, and it was an amazing experience for our whole family.
I could go on and on about all the things I loved, including the shows and they were an unexpected highlight I did not know I would love so much.
I want to go again too! I am thinking our winter WDW trip next year may have to include a 4 day cruise at least, there is one on 12/19 that looks like an option. It would be nice to go and be able to relax more and not have to rush to see everything.
Now we have to get ready for school to start. I go back to work Wednesday.
Welcome home everyone. :flower3:

GUILTY! thats what we felt on the cruise. we were having sooo much fun and enjoying ourselves to the fullest! I want to thank all the Fish Extender Families for their thoughtfull gifts. Our kids had a blast checking the FE every day for goodies. I loved all the decorated doors! Good job to all of you.
Food was great and our servers: Putra, Godwin and Francois were like family to us! We treated ourselves and Karen and Mike to a glass of Fairytale CHampagne (cant buy anywhere, only available at DCL)
We didnt get to the deck much during the cruise. Quiet frankly it was too hot for us California desert people.
Our family did the pirate museum in KW; dolphins in Cozy; Stingrays in GC; and snorkled to the HIDDEN mickey in the middle of Castaway Cay Bay. We loved biking to the lookout tower at CC. Hot as Haiti though.
kudos to Nicole from guest services! she made our trip extra special.
thanks to all you disboards for making us feel more connected with the MAGIC DCL. it was truely magical

That Fairytale Champagne was wonderful, thanks so much!!! My kids were asking when we could go again on the third day of the cruise. Its true, once they are interested in the clubs they don't want to spend time with mom and dad. My daughter is now emailing many of her new friends from the stack.
The kids LOVED the FE surprises. Great gifts, thanks!
We were very lucky to be picked as a family of the week, so there were special treats everyday.
Thanks to everyone for all the advice! Remember the Magic!!!!

I can believe I am still checking the dis boards after being home 2 weeks! We are adjusting to home life and Western standard time.
I think we were lucky to not have to worry about hurricanes or tropical storms. I am kinda curious what the cruise would be like with WEATHER. I am trying to find the Magic 8/15 cruise cuz I think they had weather.
No future cruises for us for a while. We are off to Hawaii in October.
I would love to email the staff, does anyone have any suggestions HOw TO Do THAT?
Say hi to Erica :>

No you are not the only one. I keep reading dreaming of taking another. My son said that every time he dreams now, he dreams he is on the cruise :goodvibes I am sad that soon that will fade away.
Yes we just missed the rocky weather, I don't think it would have affected the schedule but our weather would not have been so clear, I was expecting rain but I never saw a drop!

It was a wonderful cruise as were the weeks following this one. Captain did a great job staying away from any rough seas.
