View Full Version : Tinkerbell Movie coming to El Capitan

The Tinkerbell movie will be at El Capitan 9/19 to 10/2. There is a live appearance by Tinkerbell as well. http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/el_capitan/index.html
They do have special group rates available for groups of 20 or more....anyone interested in doing a DisBoards group trip?! I'd be willing to coordinate. It looks really cute and sounds like alot of fun. We went up there for Narnia and it was great.
If we do a group trip it would cost $9 per person (child or adult) for general admission seating. If we did VIP seating (which gets you a soda, popcorn and assigned seating) it would cost $22 per person (they waive the service fee, but no other discounts).
The following dates and times are possibilities (I can only do weekends, and am unavailable the weekend of 9/20):
Sat. 9/27 12:15, 2:30, 4:45 or 7 pm
Sun. 9/28, same times

We would be interested, but can't go opening weekend - attending a bridal shower out of town. I scoped out the site and discovered that everything is VIP, except the upper balcony. Those are the only general admission.
There would be 2 of us (myself and my oldest daughter - the little one runs around too much every time we take her to the movies) and we are open to VIP if that's what's left. Saturday or Sunday at 12:15 is or preference. Depending on how many of us go, we should do the Soda Fountain next door either before or after.

I will be taking my SIL to DL 17-20. We had planned to go there FRIDAY anyway. I did not know this was happening. I may sister in law will be thrilled! I'm not so sure myself looks like kind of a kid movie. If we went we would probably see the noon show.

I'm in if we pick one of the two earlier shows on Sunday. I work Saturdays so they are rarely an option!!!
So, that would be myself and my DD8!!

Okay - Amy called Sunday, Sept 28. I call the 12:15 show. Sounds like a done deal! :cheer2:
Okay, so we have Amy and Daughter, Nancy and Daughter (also named Zoe), and Zoemakes5 with (I'm assuming) her Zoe and others.
Who else is in?

I guess that depends on how fast we can get the appropriate # of folks. From how they have it marked when you go to buy tickets on the website, they are limiting the general admission to only a small portion of the upper half of the balcony from what I can tell. Everything else that normally is general admission seems to be given over to VIP - the left and right sides of the floor/orchestra, and the lower seats of the sides of the balcony. I am planning on calling them to see if that's really true.
That's why we're limiting to the two of us. My youngest is in "run around evrywhere" mode, and wouldn't be able to cope with sitting in the balcony. One of our ticket prices pays to chase her - doing the math indicates that it's not worth the extra disposable $22. :teacher:
Zoemakes5, how many do you have total? Looks like were up to 6 + your bunch.
Zoemakes5

I think it's a misperception, the general admission is by far the largest amount of tickets.
I'm happy with either the VIP or the general. One downside to the General Admission is having to get there early and wait in line. Made our last trip kind of rushed at the Soda Shoppe to have to stand in line outside.
We did purchase drinks (especially after sitting/standing outside waiting...which is where the line is) and I purchased a popcorn, too, so for us, the price difference would not be as significant between the two. But, if it means people won't be able to join us, I'd rather go with the General. I can call in a reservation on Monday, and we won't have to pay immediately. I think they said two weeks beforehand.
I have a couple of maybe's in addition to Zoe (yes, that is my DD's name, with the two boys, she's number five in our family!) and myself (name is Michelle, by the way.) So far, no other committments, but some interest. Amy and I and her DD are likely to drive up together, as we're in the San Diego area. We have 7, though, not 6, as toocherie also wants in. Cheryl, were you planning to bring anyone else with you?
That's one thing about the El Capitan, I don't think it has alot of space between the seats, so there's really not any "roaming room" for the really smaller ones. We didn't have any difficulty with my DD, and the movie we went to before wasn't geared towards the really younger ones (Narnia), but I did think to myself that it was a good thing my brother didn't come with my niece who is almost 2.

My dd (7) is Cora and I am Danelle. We would love to join you guys. We live in the Pasadena area and love to go to the El Capitain for these types of movies. It truly does not matter to us if it is gen or vip. We have never met anyone from the dis before! All meets I have read about here sound like fun.
I do agree that the benefit to VIP is not having to wait in line. At the end of last year my dds girl scout troop (I am the leader) elected to spend thier cookie money on renting a lime and seeing Narnia at the El Capitan. It was so much fun. We did gen admission and had to get there very early!!
I am fine either way. I hope you count us in. I believe you have set the date for 9/28 at 12:15 right?

I think it's a misperception, the general admission is by far the largest amount of tickets.
It is misleading - when you pull up the seating charts for this movie online, they have the orchestra left and right sections marked as VIP/General Admission and are labelled VIP when you click on it. We sat Orchestra Left for Little Mermaid, so I know they use it at general. They way they label it makes you wonder if they give themselves the option to try to swing it into VIP if they feel they can get the money for the seats.
We're all for General Admission, too. Anything to save a few pennies - we usually split snacks because 3 year old bladders are tiny! BTW, we'll take the aisle seat, so no one has to get up because of Zoe....
Let me recap the list of confirmed:
2 - (Me) Nancy and Zoe (we're in Burbank)
2-4? - Michelle, Zoe, possbily 2 or 3 more
1-2? - Cheryl (and ?)
2 -Danielle and Cora
----
9 definite with up to 3 more?
There is a chance that I might be able to add a couple more on.
BTW - thanks Michelle for suggesting this. It's awfully kind of you. Call me a goob, but this will be my first DIS Meet and I am very excited - we don't have a lot of friends that have kids!!!

I am torn on the VIP vs. GA. I am naturally frugal, but also impatient. I think for me, the extra$ would be worth it avoid super early lines?
But, whichever, Claire9DD8) and I, Amy, will be there with or without wings!!!!

A friend of mine Barb, and her daughter Marissa, age 7, will be joining me. Possibly Nana. She thinks yes right now.
I have another friend from the LA area, who has a daughter who is 6, who I'm trying to get ahold of.
I've gotten more feedback that people want the General Admission. Let me know if I'm wrong in that assesment.
Also, we're just not at or near that 20 mark quite yet. Anyone know of others, either here on the boards or IRL who might want to come?

I've put in our reservation for 20 for the 12:15 show.
We'll need to make payment to them by 9/12. We can work out the details. I have paypal if that works for people, or you can PM me and send me a check. Unless someone has a credit card that they want the points/rewards for and would prefer to do it themselves? I'm fine with whatever people want to do.
I did general admission, but it sounds like we can do the VIP if we want to. Let me know. Someone else could also call in and make a reservation for 20 for the VIP seats (we don't have to pay until 9/12 either way) and we could make the decision about which one we'd prefer closer to the deadline.
I see benefits and drawbacks to either option, so I'll go with what the group wants.

So . . . . this is a girls' only trip? I only ask because I have a friend who might want to come and bring her boyfriend's 9 year old daughter--but also wants to bring the BF! I'm here finally - long weekend would be an understatment. Was off at DL for the weekend which ended with a bit of a crisis involving my youngest and her stroller (and her in it) going down 3-4 steps at DCA and a 3.5 hr ER stint with 5 mouth stitches..... :scared1: Ugly as it sounds.... Don't know if someone bumped it or what happened, but there was no way it should have been anwhere near the steps. I know, because I parked it solid and I was standing right next to it trying to photo my husband and oldest when it moved, so I couldn't see the cause. Glad the thing had a 5 point harness! I have never been so horror stricken in my life!
She's as fine as she'll be for now - acting like nothing happened. Thank God everything was minor! It could have been so much worse!

I'm just thankful she's fine. Went to the MD today and he said she looked good. May lose a tooth or so, but otherwise, she doesn't seem phased.
I'm looking at it as a lesson learned. You can never be prepared for all circumstances - if something is destined to happen, no matter what you did to prevent it, it won't. Teaches you to appreciate the small things!
Now, I'm looking forward to seeing this movie! I have some excellent photos of the little one in her Iridessa costume. You know those went on clearance at the Disney Store last week....:cool1:

I received a flyer about group "meal" options. I'll detail them below, but the big "issue" is that IF we get any of them, we have to get them for all the tickets and they all have to be the same item(s).
"Kid Pack", 46 0z popcorn, 12 oz soda (pepsi, diet pepsi, sierra mist, root beer, fruit punch) and fun size candy for $4.25
"Kid's Meal" Everything in the kids pack plus a hot dog $6.25
"Brown Bag Meal", PB&J sandwich, chips and drink which can be eaten in the Soda Shoppe or taken into the theatre $6.25
Ice Cream Treat one scoop of vanilla icecream in a cup $2.95
I can't tell you IF any of the above is a deal/savings or not and how much it is discounted if there is a discount. I haven't been able to find the info on the website. I can call tomorrow if people are interested. I'm assuming there's some savings as the flyer says "save time and money by pre-ordering"
So, what do people think??

If I remember correctly I think there is a slight savings on the Kids pack maybe about 25 cents but I do not think the popcorn is 46oz. The other options are not ones that are regularly offered at the concession stand. At least they were not the past few times dd and I were there.
I can say this the stuff offered at the concession stand is not cheap. Offerings there include candy, pepsi drinks, icees, popcorn, pretzel bites, hot dogs, ....? I am sorry that I can't remember more. When I have taken dd in the past we got a popcorn and drink to share.
The only option that would not be good for us is the PB&J since dd does not eat it.(I have such a hard time with her not liking peanut butter. :goodvibes ) But if that is what the group chooses someone else could have her sandwhich!

I realize that we are probably in the minority, but we don't usually buy concessions at the movies. This is especially true with the El Cap, since we try to stay and get lunch at the soda shop afterwards. I guess that puts me as a vote against getting the package.
I have a girlfriend going there this weekend for Sleeping Beauty. I can ask her to report on prices.

Nope, no way to make resie.....already tried to do that. Just have to show up and try to get in.
We'll just plan on not getting the meal plans. We'll just all get our own. Doesn't sound like there's much of a savings, anyway. I'd have to do it when I paid the bill on Friday, so we wouldn't have the input of Nancy's friend by then.

I've been popping in on this thread periodically just in case there was something in there that I didn't know about El Capitan prior to my visit there to see Sleeping Beauty. In going over my visit there, I realized something that I experienced that may be worth knowing for those of you going. The website and brochures are advertising a special live appearance by Sleeping Beauty herself before each show and I think they're doing the same with Tink.
I just wanted to let everyone who may not know that this is probably not going to be a meet and greet. In the case of Sleeping Beauty, they had Aurora come out and dance across the stage to Once Upon a Dream, say a few words to the audience about how beautiful the movie looked and sounded(and restored film with stereo sound is spectacular) and then they started the movie.
Anyways, I just wanted to let people know in case they have to "prepare" a child that she may see Tink, but probably won't get her picture taken with her(unless she does the character breakfast only availalbe for the 10:00am show or can wait a few weeks for the Disneyland one coming). I hope everyone has fun.

It was the same way when we saw Little Mermaid. Ariel came out ahead of the movie on a rock and spoke to the audience. I had no further expectations the way they advertised it - "An Appearance by..." It'll be interesting to hear Tink talk to us! I wonder if it will be one of the new Tinks for the park meet and greet - getting her feet wet, so to speak. It'll be about time for those girls to be doing publicity.
Hey Michelle, can we add 4 more seats? I got an email from another friend today.

I believe that won't be a problem. One of mine bowed out, so it would be three extra. I'll call tomorrow.

I did increase the reservation with 4 more seats. I do have to pay for them tomorrow, so please confirm with me that they are actually going for sure by around 4pm tomorrow.

I just want to confirm that this is accurate. Somehow, I had down 27 when I went in to add to our order and that's how many I paid for. If we're not missing anyone with the list above, I have two extra tickets, as Nana can't come. The odd this is, I thought I compensated for that!

Michelle,
That will totally stink if you end up with two extra. If you truly do have two extra...please let us all know. I can try a little harder to get someone else interested.
Sunday is just such a family day...I didn't get a lot of interest before!! AMY

I agree with Amy - let us know and we can try to find more folks. I already placed a call into a single mom friend who has a 4 yr old daughter. She's going to get back to me this evening, after she gets a chance to check her calendar.

Thanks, guys! It was my own error, somehow I just miscounted. I thought I did the right math with deleting nana and then adding the new people, but I messed it up.
I did order 27 tickets. If the list is accurate, we only have 25 coming. So, if anyone has one or two more who'd like to come, that would be great.
Amy, we have a full van coming from San Diego area at this point. We'd have to take another vehicle to add any people. That would end up being more than $18. So, if it comes to it, I'll just absorb the cost. My error anyway.

hang tight - Erin sounded very interested, so I hopefully will know in the next two days. She's in Orange County, so that should help.

Well, I got the tickets! Whoo hoo! :cool1:
We're just about a week away.
Does anyone have any questions?
I plan to be at the El Capitan around 11. I was thinking of doing the soda shoppe after the movie.

My DD's best friend is having her B-day party that day at noon. We just got the invite yesterday. So, we are in negotiations....
I am very happy to donate my two tickets to anyone who might be a late comer to this thread.....

Why thanx!! I'm pretty bummed, and while I usually force my kid to fulfill commitments, I am letting her chose this time. Up until this year at school she has been a bit of a loner, and wasn't invited to parties very often. The biggest "bully Diva" of the class is in another school this year, so the dynamics have changed in the group. There is a shuffling of power. ( I know, sad sad sad, they are only 8!!!) All of a sudden my DD8 comes home all excited that this little girl or that one asked to play with her. Last year, we didn't have that, she generally was stuck playing with the kindergartners.
So, her position as part of the group is a bit tenuous, so scary as this sounds, this Build a Bear party might dictate her social standing for the rest of the year.
Too bad llife is like that!! As an only child she started school without the armor to withstand the generally nastiness of kids. I know my brother and I could be horrid to each other. But, then when I was called a poopy head at school, I retaliated in kind rather than my poor kid who gets her feelings hurt!!!
Oh, well sorry to rant. Just wanted to let everyone know why I am ditching. Not like me, I believe in being reliable!! Also to explain that my DD is not a spoiled brat who dictates my every move. Nope, instead, a bit of a social outcast...and we are working on it!!
:) to everyone, AMY
Oh, and have fun!!

Being an only child myself--I completely sympathize. There are just certain social skills (or defenses--LOL) that you just don't learn being an "only."
Hope she has fun at BAB!

Don't worry about it! My dd is an only too and gets her feelings hurt all the time. I understand the need to help your dd position herself in the "new" group. Those parties and such outside of school hold a lot of influence of what happens on the playground.

Oh Amy - I totally understand! I was in your daughter's shoes as a kid. Glad you are understanding of what happens and rember what ist was like. Even though my mom was a teacher, she never "got it". I'm sorry we couldn't meet you this time!
Spoke with Erin. They will probably not be able to go. She's worried her 4 yr old might not do well in the movie after an hour drive up from Orange County. Chiara doesn't watch a lot of TV and gets restless. She says if we do end up with extras at the end, they may try it.

We'll be there about 11. I think we might park in the Hollywood and Highland complex. The stores there validate, so we might get some BeardPapas (amazing cream puffs) and call it good. Otherwise there is a lot directly south of the Hollywood and Highland (entrance off Highland) and it is the closest lot you can get to being almost right behind the theater building. $10 flat rate all day (no in and out privilages).

We all had the greatest time, too!
I wish I had more time to talk with all of you. We'll definitely have to do a park get together!
I can't wait for the movie to come out on DVD - I know my littlest one will be simply thrilled! She just wouldn't have been able to sit that long in the theater, so she had to stay home with Daddy! He's hysterical, too. He's waiting for the DVD - doesn't want to hear anything about it! (I think he's jealous not to have gone.)
