View Full Version : Stocking the camper (pop-up)Were to start?

We just picked up our first pop-up camper yesterday and I am soooo excited! I don't want to break the bank stocking the camper, but I know I need to get some stuff. I'm raiding my cabinets for plastic cups (I should be covered there). I think I probably need to get some dishes for the camper. What kind do you recommend? Melamine? Corelle? Something cheap and unbreakable is what I'm thinking. Any good comprehensive camper packing lists online somewhere? I'm sooo excited!

Congratulations!!!!!
We keep unbreakable dishes (check Target/walmart for good deals right now), silverware & other utensils, cutting board, hot/cold cups (actually Disney refillable mugs), spices, towels, sheets, lantern, coffee filters and coffee pot, a small folding table, roasting sticks, tools, extension cord in the camper always.
We also have a rubbermaid box labeled "Base camp supplies". I keep a list inside a plastic sleeve with a dry erase marker so I can jot down what we need to replace for our next trip.
Inside the box are individual 2 gallon sized bags that are numbered:
Bag # 1
Plastic wrap
Baggies
Foil
Recycle bags
Trash bags
Straws
Bag clips
Bag # 2
Dish soap
Cleaner
Scrubber
Bag # 3
Dish towels
Wipes
T.P.
Bag # 4
First Aid
Bag # 5
Table cloths
Patch kit

your way to organized.
In addition to all of that....I'm always needing bowls....to warm up things in the microwave, mix up hambuger meat, put left overs in, mix up pancake mix. I buy the paper bowls for cereal etc and keep plastic ones in the camper for the other needs!

get yourself a bit rubbermaid tub at wallymart and then hit the dollar store. i went ape in that place and filled up that tub with all sorts of stuff. also, hit yard sales or thrift stores for old kitchen items. (for us, one medium pot, one heavy fry pan, a dutch oven and a crock pot.)
stuff i bought there and have in that tub. (i.e. i never have to pack them again, only have to replace what i use every so often. this makes for quick trip packing. just throw some undies an jammies and extra shorts in a bag and off we go. take along any food or swing by a grocery when we arrive.)
crosswords, tablet, pens, tape (what self respecting camper doesn't have some duct tape on hand?!?!?)kids handheld fans, sunglasses, pillow, old but still decent afgans or blankets, meds of any and every type. "lady products"
soap, shampoo, conditioner, shower caddies, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, hairbrush hairclips/ponytails. razors, insect repellant, q-tips, hairdryer, bandaids, sunscreen, tweezers, fingernail clippers, multipurpose tool, eye glass repair kit, paper towels, tissues, gas match, fire starter bricks,
camper fans, tacky camper lights, extention cords, trash bags, laundry soap flashlights, crockpot, crockpot liners, campfire forks, pie iron (mmmm.....fluffer nutters - ok, i said that on here before and it was misconstrued to be something kinky....think peanut butter and marshmellow fluff toased between slices of bread.:goodvibes )utensils, sharp knife, scissors, dish towels, dish cloths, dish soap, pot holders table cloth/ clips, salt/pepper, clothes line, clothespins, large spoons, foil, ziploc bags, paper plates, alarm clock power strip, spatula, batteries
broom, chairs outdoor carpet, small rug

You fit all that stuff in one tub? What size tub is it? I was thinking I'd need at least 3 tubs for all that stuff! (BTW, I love to buy rubbermaid tubs. I can't wait to go pick up a few to stuff with camping stuff!!)
I have rounded up a few things I have extra of in the house like a can opener, lighters, pt holders, dish cloths, etc. Thanks for the great list. I need to get packing and shopping!!
Of course, I was trying to be all thrifty, looking through the house, thinking about what I could get from my mom, planning a trip to the dollar store, and DH went out last night and bought a TV for the camper! Oh well, guess it is good that I saved a few bucks on the rest of the stuff!

Big Bowls and Platters do help out in addition to the paper plates.
I have Dixie plastic cups that I wash a couple of times before tossing.
And, I got some great advice from this board when we got the new TT. As I type I don't know if applies to a pop-up. But, we took the bedspreads that came with the camper off and stored them for safe keeping and just used extra bedding from around the house.
Best Wishes!:hippie:

I have finally figured out one of the things in life that have escaped me for a lot of years.
I am only going to buy shirts that have logo's and designs on the front, they are stain blockers, all my plain shirts have stains where my lunch lands on my stomach. But the ones with designs on the front, the wing sauce just rolls off, and you can wipe it off with a napkin and keep eating.
Just a tip for those of us that must sit a "little further away from the table" :lmao:
