So we are heading to Disneyland for Oct 22-30th. I want to bring my XSI and wanted to do some nice night shots and such. I wanted to know if anyone would recommend a new lens or keep what I have.

Currently Xsi
Kit Lens 18-55 IS
50mm 1.8 prime
55-250 IS...

I'm going to leave the 55-250 lens at home, since I truly believe that most of DL I'll need a wide lens, I'm just not sure if the kit lens will preform well in low light or should I look for something else.

Any advice Essentionally I'm looking for a walkaround lens with low light expectations :)

Thanks Winky

Here's a good article for people looking for step-up lens:

The type of lens you are probably wanting is going to cost some cash though.

If you're looking for low light capability (assuming low light means nighttime w/o tripod) that is wider than your 50mm, your only option for a zoom (since you generally need IS even at f/2.8 for night stuff in the parks) is the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM at around $1,000. Wider prime options include the Canon 28mm f/1.8 USM, around $400, or Sigma has primes at 20mm, 24mm, 28mm at f/1.8 (around $400, $360, $280) or 30mm at f/1.4 with HSM ($400). Taking my prices from Adorama, by the way.

One thing to add, if you stay completely zoomed out on your 18-55 kit lens so that you are at f/3.5, and use a higher ISO, you might be able to do OK with that lens since it has IS. Sort of like an 18mm prime at night ;)
