How did you find the DIS Camping Forum? What keeps you coming back?

I found DIS Boards while trip planning one year. A couple of years later I was browsing the forums when I saw the camping forum! We're a camping family so I started reading! Next thing I know...FW here we come! It's the great folks we have met here and at FW that keeps me coming back. The humor shared here is priceless.

Well we went to WDW when Matt was 2 and stay at a campground on 194, because we got a free week for buying our first TT. We went back about a year and a half later, and stayed at the Fort. We loved it so much, but felt we weren't prepared, we didn't have any free time to enjoy the Fort, it was just park park park park leave. So as I was planning our last trip, I was searching for info on the fort, and found this nut house.

I stick around because I am a glutten for punishment. LOL Just kidding, I stayed because of THE PEOPLE, it is because of the PEOPLE.

Found the main site last year when we started looking at WDW trip for this past Spring. There was so much vague and contradictory information on the boards that I didn't do much with them.

I found this subset of the camping board when our neighbor was talking about a prior trip they took with their camper to WDW. I put camping forums and Disney in Google and this came back at the top of the list. So I gave the DIS another try.

I wish I'd found you when I was looking last year. We ended up going through a travel agent for the week's planning. She was good, but apparently hasn't learned much about the fort, because we never heard anything about it from her. Too bad, we would have found a lot of things to do that we knew nothing about at the time. :sad1:

It's a good bunch of people to hang out with, so I keep coming back.

I had never been on a forum before. Never thought they were my thing. But after my whole "mom's panel fiasco" I really needed something to make me feel helpful. I don't know much about anything except being a mom, theatre and Disney so I searched on 'I don't even remember what' and found the Dis. I signed up immediately and started answering questions! Jumped in with both feet as they say. I had an upcoming trip to the fort, so I found the camping forum to ask about the refillable mugs, was introduced to the otters and peacocks right off the bat, as well as catching a glimpse of the humor and comraderie on this board...I responded saying something about "I otter be talking about Peacocks" and the rest is history! I've been hooked ever since!

I was planning
a trip for my big old family...and was about to book two allstars, but somehow realized that ONE cabin wasnt too much more than 2 allstars....so I started looking for info on the cabins, stumbled into this and was hooked almost immediately. When I first started here, was apparently about the same time as alot of you other guys...I noticed small minor sarcastic remarks that were accepted with a jab....and knew this was the place for me. Since then, you guys have gotten much more sarcastic and seem to remain in the attack mode pounce position...of coarse ya'll never extend the claws. This past year has been alot of fun thanks to ya'll!!

I found it a couple of years ago when someone on another forum mentioned it while answering a question. While the other one was a friendly forum it wasn't nearly as active or informative. Now, almost every day, I go to Subsonic Radio to listen to the Disney music while I come here for the great people and information. That way I get a Double Disney Fix.

We have been here for a long time. This forum was really quite quiet up until the past couple of years. I don't think people really know there is a campground at Disney. It is a great forum. We camped at the fort for the first time in 1989.

I was researching our April '07 trip and someone on rv.net sent me the link to this board. I am a planner and found all of the tips here very helpful. When I first joined it was mostly a Q and A board with a bit of humor thrown in here and there. Then sometime later last year the otters, peacocks and beer starting taking over and here we are now...;)

You can blame my presence on the board on Al!! He couldn't believe I had never heard of Disboards, All-Ears, Mouse Planet, etc. He then realized that due to the fact I'm "all things Disney", I didn't need to be on a web site about WDW - but did tell me about the camping forum. One "look-see" was all I needed.... (well that, and a thread about otters that was totally corrupted by un-named members of the group) anyhow.... that was all I needed to be hooked! Of course the constant topic of beer was helpful, as well! Now, I have a bunch of new friends and am always willing to enlarge my circle to include more!!! It has been a real hoot meeting a lot of you at FtW & I look forward to meeting more!!

Great question!!

My wife found it actually. We had just returned from our first trip and we had a blast. I enjoyed the Fort and wanted more. So she ended up finding it somehow and she shared it with me. At first I was like no way, who gives a turd about the site, I bet they're all disneyfags. I said I'll look around, and then go on my merry way. Well, I was partially right, so i stayed. But the thing is, the people were cool, and that's why I stayed. I said maybe we'll meet friends like her parents did and get to camp with a group. The next time we were there, I'm in the gift shop, and some lady comes up to me and asks if I'm gatordad. Her name escapes me, it was like Largo Lucy or something (not unlike all of donnie's friends, you know minniepa4598 and stlouisgrumpy565). I was like wow, people do read the message board. The next person we met was donnie, and i was like, he seems cool and drinks. Then we met Kahuna and I was more hooked. Then BDR joined the forum, and it went all downhill.

the end.

haha That's one of the many things I like about WDW. It's great for families and its perfectly acceptable for adults to enjoy adult beverages (maybe not partying like Rockstars though, ha) Last month I was browsing World of Disney pushing a double stroller with one of these in my hand! :rotfl:

Then we took the boat back to the resort where we picked up another at the pool bar. The kids went swimming, while we sat poolside enjoying our drink and watching our kiddo's have fun....and we were surrounded by other parents doing the same thing.

Actually, I use to be a member, board member actually, of another forum for ATV riding. A bunch of us from the forum would meet every year and ride in different places. It got bigger and better every year. Then politics took over and I bowed out. Found this forum and good times again. :thumbsup2

I actually have been on the boards since I moved down here from Alabama in 1997 but under a different name. (don't start guys) However, I didn't start trouble by getting another name, I bowed out for a while because I lost interest and forgot my password. Instead of going and getting another one, I just added a 92 to my name and the rest is history. I got tired of the scariness of the community board, which is what I was introduced to many years ago by a neighbor of mine. (she shows up every once in a while and threatens to tell stories on me, the one with edna in her avitar) We had just purchased a pop up and I was trying to get my DH to have the same enthusiasm about the Fort that I always did, so I got into the boards on the camping side. It was a lot quieter before last year, but I am sure glad it is the way it is now. Less stuffy and know it all-ness is the way to go for me.

I had googled something for our Disney trip and the Disboards came up first so that's how I found it. I spent many months reading other sections of the boards and then found out about the campfire and sing along. Some one pointed me to the camping forum and I lurked for awhile before posting because I know nothing about camping. I soon realized that that doesn't really matter - the people here are just REAL and even though most love Disney (except Gatordad :goodvibes ) it doesn't consume the conversations as it does on some other sections - which is fine by me. I'm just taking my kids to Disney - I'm not a fanatic about it. :rolleyes1

I found the Disboards (believe it or not) while trying to find pics of golf carts in Nov. 07. Some how I managed to get to the Dis thru the pics.
I lurked for a couple of weeks, really liked what I read from the disers,,very friendly and lots of humor and occassionally helpful answering questions. After a couple weeks I told Denise about the Disboards. And we lurked together for a while longer.
After our Fort trip in Jan 08 we signed up and TA-DA here we are !

I stumbled upon the disboards because of the camping board. I was looking for information on Ft. Wilderness because my husband briefly considered camping at Disney. Still hasn't done it, but keep on talkin' it up... at least he's now camping locally with the family. I have not camped at the Fort since 1982 (I was 4) so it's not because I camp at the Fort that I keep coming back. I'm a camper! You'll never find a better group than campers - that's what keeps me coming back. Y'all are a hoot!

I was a pretty active member at the Passporter Boards (best guidebook to Disney available, IMHO) and kept seeing links to threads on the Dis. I would read what was referenced but never really explored any further for fear of being sucked into yet another life-stealing vortex! So I was aware of the Dis for a while, but just a few weeks ago I followed a link relating to my favorite Disney subject (Fort Wilderness) and discovered the Dis had a Camping thread! I plunged headlong into the vortex (and frankly, I haven't even been back to the PP Boards since). I am amazed at the variety of threads and the level of activity here. I'm hooked.

Well, Jim(my DH) found the site when we were planning on bringing the camper down to the fort for a trip. He finds forums for EVERYTHING. I had belonged to a different forum for WDW, but I like this one MUCH better. Anyway, I kind of hijacked his account(otherwise, I would have a much more "magical" name) and lurked for a while. But the craziness that insues around here, and the "bond" that we share hooked me and I started posting. Now I can't stop, I have been told I need an intervention. I feel like I "know" all these people here, even though I haven't been lucky enough to make a gathering. In fact, now DH has started posting and I made him get a new account.:rotfl: Ya snooze ya loose, right? He should have started posting while he had the chance.

I found this board in a kind-of off beat way. I was doing research for pop-ups which lead me to Tim5055's (http://www.title-3.com/) site. When I started looking around his site he had a link to disboards. I click on it and have been clicking ever since. I found the DIS back in 2001. I was mostly on the resorts and transportation boards at first. Then in December 01 I took my first flying and tent camping trip at the Fort, and spent a lot of time helping folks with tent camping there, then of course last year, got my camper, so now I'd rather be camping than anything. The 4th of July GG was a first for me, going to WDW property and not visiting the parks.

I found this board while on Mousesavers. There was mention of a discount of some sort, and a notation not to give the code to other sites...aka.."disboards". That's when I figured I'd check out this Disboards site myself. :thumbsup2 I was a member of another board(which shall remain nameless:rolleyes: ..and still post there occasionally) However, I quickly found that this board was much more informative especially in regards to camping information..and A LOT friendlier. I've posted on the Dis in the resorts and dining forums, and also the community board. However, they are a tough bunch, and I don't have it in me to fight everyday! Nor do I want to. Our first time camping at the fort was in 89, and until 96 we had always camped at the fort.. my mom wanted to see WDW so she splurged and we stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter for a week... We took a break from Disney :rolleyes1 and visited the rest of the US in our pop up.. Finally headed back to the Fort,7 yrs ago when DD#2 came along and we upgraded to a 30 foot Travel trailer..(she being a preemie just gave us more reason to have our own beds etc) In 2006 mom spoiled us again by our stay at the Contemporary, for the holiday season...

Right after we checked in, the girls took the boat over to the Fort!!!!:yay: DD16 tells me, "mom the playground is under construction here so I'm taking Sophia over to the campground" She called me on the cell, and says you gotta come over here and check out the decorations... Nothing like tears welling when your teenager loves the fort more than the Contempoary..:cloud9:

Consider it done!!!

I tried to make ressies for this december....good luck with that!!:scared:

Thanks!! I am one of those freaks who will keep the disney number on speed dial and call every 5 minutes. That's how I got ressies at 'Ohana 3 days before our trip... I started calling 7 days before and at the 3 day mark I got them haha.

I say we hassle your boyfriend too,,,
he needs to be a Fort Freak.
uh, I mean Fort Fiend.:thumbsup2
ok, I'll trick him into thinking this is a top secret fishing secrets forum and then everyone here will attack him :rotfl2: and then he will have no choice :thumbsup2

I found it while searching on google for info about the fort. I didn't really pay too much attention to it intill I took a ride over to DIS from my cart forum on the "black pearl"

I found it looking for pictures of the new upgrades as the Fort's pool. I read some of the threads and once I saw beer & wine pictures I was hooked. I also was curious about this drink I heard about (Kungaloosh) and my blender has been working hard everyday.:drinking1:
