Any parts on the Eastern islands to stay away from if we wander by ourselves

This is my biggest fear when it comes to exploring the islands by myself. That there will be a part that is dangerous.

Not really anything to worry about. There are some pockets of poverty at both St Maarten and St Thomas, and there are some neighborhoods you'd want to stay out of, but it seem unlikely that you'd unwittingly find yourself walking through these neighborhoods. Just keep your wits about you just like you would when traveling in any city. Don't let your guard down just because you're on vacation.
