Hi everyone.
We just found out my husband has CNS lymphoma.
It's been a really hard time the last few weeks and we have a long road ahead.
We have a large group of supportive friends and loving family surrounding us, but your prayers would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much.

Sue, I mentioned this thread to Judi (Snoopy), knowing you two went way back together here, and her not being able to visit. She asked me to "....extend my good wishes on that thread, Dan? I hate to hear stuff like this about old friends from the DIS...makes me feel so helpless. What a shame. I know they have a DD not much older than Luke. I'll pray he will be o.k."

Thanks everyone.
Dan, I haven't posted this anywhere else on the internet yet, but tell Snoopy I said thanks.
You both are sweet and caring people.

He was admitted to the cancer hospital a few days ago and is undergoing a battery of tests before his first chemo treatment.

I haven't had the easiest life, but this is by far the hardest thing I've ever had to go through. He is only 47.
I'm spending 14 hours a day by his side, so not much time for the internet.
Abby, our 13 year old daughter is hanging in there. She has a very close group of friends who are supporting her as well as all the family.
It's my three adult kids I am more worried about. They aren't handling it too well. Bob is their step dad and while they love him very much, they have a lot of unresolved childhood issues with him. We are all going to counseling the hospital offers.

We are truly taking things one day at a time here, probably for the first time in our lives.

Thanks for your concern, it is appreicated.

As a caregiver myself, I know the toll on us can be very difficult. I am sorry that you are going through this as well as your husband facing this cancer. Please know this hospitals et al are very quick to put things on the family that are sometimes difficult to do..I am talking medical things that normally we would not do but because it is cost effective and insurance tells them to push more on the family and have them do less so ins does not have to pay as much.......if that happens with you and you are not comfortable, speak up. I have in the past, I am not a nurse or a doctor and have not been trained to flush out ports etc....so I stand my ground and say I am not going to do that.. I do not feel comfortable doing that. I may have to take him back to the hospital to do that, but I would rather that than make a mistake that could affect my husband's health..

This is on my mind this morning as we had a discussion about this yesterday with the doctor. Also, they can make arrangements for visiting nurses to come and help you... you just have to know about all this as they are not going to offer it. This is for when he is at home..

Anyway, know this, there are many of us going through what you are right now.. facing chemo with a loved one can be difficult on all. Take time for yourself.....when you can, get someone to sit with him and get away even if it is for a cup of coffee down the road.. just to clear your head..

We are here for you.

.

This actually is what we did with my daughter and it worked out better than doing it in the hospital. She would have the actual chemo infusion in the cancer center in Philly and then we would come home to continue with the after chemo care. At the beginning they had a nurse come out with everything I needed and teach me how to do everything. I have done everything , taking vitals , flushing the port , giving her and changing hydration IV bags , give her meds through the IV , the only thing I did not do was bloodwork.
I am glad I did , I have learned a lot and it has also saved my daughter a lot of depression from being in the hospital , it was easier when she was in her own environment but I will say it was a lot of work and many nights when I slept in installments.
It may have been cheaper for the insurance company , I don't know but it also worked better for me because I have a younger child and I could be home with her.
But not everyone is capable or equiped to do something like this , it is overwhealming and tiring.
To the OP , my prayers are with you and please hang in there , this is a long difficult road but we are all here for you.

My late husband had severe asthma. Before we got our miracle with treatment the Dr. recommended we have adrenaline in the house in the event of emergencies.

My husband came home with an instruction sheet that had you practice on oranges. Later that evening he had a very very bad attack.

I had no choice but to inject him. He wouldn't have made it until the paramedics came. I was so nervous but I did it. I saved his life.

After that is when I started my quest to get him the best medical care I could.
