OMG, I can so relate.
Here in California, we keep earthquake supplies always handy in a closet below the stairs. This means bottles of water, canned food, dried fruit, powerbars and chocolate. ;) For some reason, I keep having to replace the chocolate bars on a monthly basis. Those damn mice seem to find those candy bars all the time. :rotfl2:
Seriously though, I've been thinking about ya all and sending positive thoughts that Faye just passes you by!

One person needs to do the shopping and hide the good stuff. Put chocolate behind the fruit and veggies in the fridge. That is what I do to DH. The Thin Mints (yes I still have 200 boxes of GS Cookies) go in the freezer behind the oatmeal and bread crumbs.
When needed they miraculously are found (I have a corner poke out).
Now my question.....what happens if you lose power....chocolate is wonderful, but not when melted.
What did you get for salty snack??
Here is hoping that Fay misses you and DSister in St. Augustine.

According to Pete's latest blog update you still have time....
May I recommend the new Premium M&M's in Raspberry Almond. They don't melt as quick as regular M&M's. Also the new Dove Bars. It looks like one big one but it is actually 3 individual bars. My personal favorite flavor is Blueberry Almond. I have noticed that it takes longer to eat the whole thing when you have to stop between bars to unwrap.
Good luck on the chocolate refill and stay safe.

There's no possible way I could keep chocolate around long enough for it to become "emergency chocolate". I think it's a myth.

Hurry, get some for the house and a stash for each other. Then hide each others. During the hurricane you could play hide and go seek.

What did you get for salty snack??
Our grocery store has a sale now - 3 canisters of Frito Lay products for $3 - we got 2 cans of Fritos and 1 can of Cheetos - those are all gone as well. I convinced Kevin they are mostly air anyway and that's how they 'get you'.
By my calculation I still have 12 hours before the first line of rains come through. Plenty of time to head back to the store.

Kevin, you have to read the books. The movies do not do them justice!
On your next road trip up to NJ, pick up a copy of HP and the Sorcerers Stone on audio book (from the library) and listen to it. It's read to you by Jim Dale, who does a fantastic job!

one little tid bit left out
--- Harry's patronus is a Stag because his father was able to change into a stag. a wizard able to do this os called an animagus. So it is as if his father even in death will always be there to protect him.

I HAVE to chime in here and say that Jim Dale is AMAZING! He does such a good job with the characters' voices. You wouldn't even need the "Hermione said" "Harry said" "Ron said", you can tell who is talking just by his voice. And my favorite voice character for him is Prof McGonagall.
If you are on the fence with whether or not to try the Harry Potter books - do yourself a favor and get the audio books!

Last night was the worst of the storm for us and required our best hunkering down.
Kevin finished his chocolates (Hershey's Nuggests, Dark Chocolate Truffles) I still have 1/3 of a big of mine (Hershey's Nuggests, Milk Chocolate).
We both have salty snacks left but I am down to my last 1/2 bag of Cheetos - if I run out I may have to call FEMA.
Just so you don't think we eat like 13 year olds who's parents are out for the evening - we did go over to Kevin's folks house for dinnner. His Mom made one of our favorite pasta dishes and Kevin made homemade Italian wedding soup - OMG he makes awesome soups!!!!

Any way we can get a description of said favorite pasta dish?
This description will confirm if you are in fact 13 year olds or give us a new food comment. Which will help us get by until the podcast is posted.
Example - If you say you had spaghetti, Ragu and Kraft Parmesan Cheese....well then we can confirm you are 13. :lmao:

ok....I have no idea what you are all talking about.
I'm lost.
And here I thought EVERYONE knew all about Harry Potter, maybe when they make it into a broadway musical :lmao:
Can you tell I'm re-reading all the HP books?

I HAVE to chime in here and say that Jim Dale is AMAZING! He does such a good job with the characters' voices. You wouldn't even need the "Hermione said" "Harry said" "Ron said", you can tell who is talking just by his voice. And my favorite voice character for him is Prof McGonagall.
If you are on the fence with whether or not to try the Harry Potter books - do yourself a favor and get the audio books!
I must agree with you on that, I have only listened to them, I have a lot of long commutes so that is what got me started on the audio books.
Jim Dale also does the narration/ voice over on Pushing Daisies and there is a character on there named Lily and every time he says that it reminds me of Harry's mom.

She makes a very light sauce with pancetta, olive oil, onions, garlic and crushed tomatoes - poured over penne and topped with fresh basil and fresh ground cheese.
She also makes a killer red sauce with meatballs and sausage - but that's an all day event and when she makes it we have enough to freeze and have multiple meals.
Last night she also made tomatoes with mozzarella in olive oil and balsamic glaze.
She treats us good :worship:

This is sort of my version of a Rachel Ray recipe. None of it is carved in stone and you can change it to suit your taste
128 oz box chicken stock (two 48 oz boxes and one 32 oz box)
Olive Oil
Carrots
Celery
Onion
Chicken bouillion cubes
Ground Beef and Pork- approx 2 lbs ish (Publix calls it Meatloaf mix - 2/3 beef 1/3 pork))
Parsley
Grated Italian cheese (asiago, parmesean, locatelli...anything you like)
Bread crumbs
Orzo pasta (any small pasta will work)
Basil
Zest of one lemon
Nothing is really measured. It's all a bit of guessing.
In a large stock pot, put a couple of tablespoons of olive oil (enough to coat bottom of pot)
Add diced celery, carrots and onion and saute
Add chicken stock
add 5 bouillion cubes crushed
Bring to a boil
Ok....my Mom doesnt eat onions or celery, so I strain the stuff out of the liquid at this point. If you like the stuff in the soup...leave it in.
Lower heat to simmer
Mix ground beef beef and pork in a bowl with chopped parsley, a handfull of bread crumbs and a handful of grated cheese. Mix well.
I use a melon baller / ice cream scoop to make mini meatballs. You can do it by hand but it's tedious. Makes 36 - 40 approx)
Slowly (and very carefully) add meatballs to stock.
If you have strained the stuff out of the stock, I'd add about a pound of crinkle cut carrot slices. If you have left the stuff in....you dont need to do this.
Add 1/2 box or orzo. Dont add whole box even though you want to. Orzo absorbs a lot of liquid
Bring to a boil again,
Add fresh chopped basil and lemon zest.
Lower temp and simmer.
Salt to taste.
Thats it.
You can add anything you want. I have done this with diced chicken tenders instead of the meatballs.
I have done it with beef stock instead of chicken.
Both were ok...but the original seems to be the most popular.
john and my Mom seem to love this.
It's great comfort food.

Thanks John & Kevin. Both recipes sound like you had awesome grub, but neither recipes sound like teenager food ~ definitely twenty-something food choices. :teeth:

Try a meatball mix of 1/3 beef, 1/3 pork and 1/3 veal. Ir makes them very tender and you know the saying...the cuter the animal, the better it tastes!! and "veals" are very cute!!
