My niece's 7th birthday is next month. She has decided on a Pirate and Princess party (was originally going all princess but then wanted to invite 2 boys so we convinced her to add the pirate part).

We need suggestions for activities to keep about 20 kids busy for 3 hours.

So far there is going to be a pinata and cake.

Any ideas?

My dad will eat green beans at every meal too! Mom has to mix it up as she gets tired of them.

If only we all did what our doctors told us - I had pizza for dinner followed by a fun size twix :scared1:
Well, at least your dinner was better for you than mine! :rotfl:

THREE HOURS?! Yikes. I'd cut that time in 1/2, and then check out Oriental Trading Company's website. They have lots of great craft activities that would be fun for parties, as well as everything you'd need for goody bags. :thumbsup2 How about a scavenger hunt?

Not sure if anybody remembers, but a while back, she posted a picture of the camo afghan she made for a baby gift, and I'd posted how much Tyler loved it when I showed it to him and he hoped Santa could bring him one. ;)

Well, look what showed up in our mail yesterday for Tyler:

Oh, she's actually asked me (way back when she was speaking to me :lmao:) how I get him to eat veggies at dinner. I told her I put them on his plate and he eats them. :rotfl2: She says he won't eat them over there and I told her it's because he knows they have other options available. He knows I don't. I did tell his dad yesterday how he was even eating peas the other day, which he absolutely hates. After every bite, he'd say "yuck" and would keep eating them. :rotfl: He really only wants green beans with every meal, but I didn't realize we were out of them and I wasn't about to rush up to the store before dinner, so he had to make do with peas. He told me he doesn't like them but will eat them because he wants to do what his doctor told him to do. :thumbsup2

Tell her to get the correct freakin veggies!

Kelly, I just talked to my dad on the phone a few minutes ago. He called to ask if I'd changed my mind about coming to town this weekend. I told him that since Tyler's gone, I'd just rather come visit another time so that he can visit with them too, otherwise Tyler'd be sad about not being able to go see them. Then I told him I'm sorry if I hurt his feelings the other day about this, but that I really feel that it's my day and want to spend it my way this year, meaning I just want to enjoy my extra alone time and enjoy the peace and quiet. He told me "That's OK, but I'm still going to celebrate." I told him he can have a few beers that night in my honor and if I'm home, I'll have a couple too at around the same time. :thumbsup2 He got a kick out of that and then told me they're putting something in the mail for me tomorrow. Of course, that means my Walmart gift card! I told Tyler this year I want to buy the set of the original Star Wars movies with it! He thinks it's for him, but it's really for me.....I'll just try to share and let him watch it with me! ;)

Sounds like you made him feel better and got what you wanted in the first place... good communicating:thumbsup2

We tried Yak & Yeti for lunch - very good

I had the Crispy Honey Chicken w/brown rice

And Darrell had the Sweet n Sour Chicken w/Jasmine rice

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s10/LisaG520/DSC_0031-1.jpg

For dinner we went to Prime Time Cafe

I had the pot roast

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s10/LisaG520/DSC_0087-1.jpg

And Darrell had the fried chicken

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s10/LisaG520/DSC_0086.jpg

(Jackie this pictures for you :lmao: )

We also had the Smore's at Prime Time but there was nothing left but chocolate smears on the plate by the time I thought of taking a picture.

If you can be anywhere for a storm WDW is a great place. They have their own generators so power doesn't seem to ever go out. They also try to do things at the resorts to keep guests happy & not stir crazy if you have to stay in doors.

RE: Epcot - technically I am still a CM - seasonal (for PT you have to work min of 2 days/week...I got tired of working 7 days a week so downgraded). At this moment there aren't many events going on (private parties w/ food) so any hours go to the PT CM's and not seasonal ones. I will probably be able to pick up some hours during Food & Wine Festival.

I have this sudden strange urge to go outside and start pulling weeds and then mow. :rotfl2: But that will have to wait because it's DARK now! When did it start getting dark before 9pm? That happened without me even realizing it! Anyway, after a bunch of running around I need to do after work tomorrow night (including stopping at the hardware store for new yard gloves and more yard bags), hopefully it will still be light enough to at least weed and I can mow in the morning. Or the other way around, whichever I feel like when the time comes. I guess I should mow first since I hate that more than anything.....get the crap work out of the way. I like pulling weeds for some reason. It's relaxing.

I apologize in advance to all of you who are striving to make good food choices.

I stopped at Cold Stone Creamery on my way home from work to use my birthday freebie coupon. Oh my gosh, I was expecting the smallest size they had, since it was free. It was the middle size, and she OVERSTUFFED it! I was only able to eat about 1/3, so I have more for later. I chose "birthday cake remix", which is cake batter ice cream, sprinkles, a brownie, and they drizzle chocolate syrup over the whole thing and then mix it all up. I was in heaven the whole ride home! :cloud9: SUPER yummy!

Sounds yummy! Especially the brownie :)

Any ideas?

Let the kids decorate hats - princess crowns and pirate bandanas. I recommend having felts and stickers to decorate with; avoid glitter glue or white glue, because the kids glop it on too thick and it won't be dry at the party. You can do a small cake with cupcakes and let the kids decorate their own cupcake. Instead of pin the tail on the donkey you could have a stick figure and pin the crown or pirate eye patch on it. You can little plastic swords (like for cocktail drinks) and skewer pieces of fruit for healthy snack.

I'm suffering from horrible biological calendar problems. I feel like it should be Friday today.

Good new is that we got an email this afternoon that the company will close at 2PM tomorrow.

No... I'm watching him... wondering if it vears this way, will I be able to make it out in time... They think Louisana, but TX just declared 61 counties emergency just in case and to day I saw all the highway signs telling us to keep gas in our cars... Fun stuff.. I may be evacuating for the first time... :sad2:

Hi Everyone! Looks like I picked a busy day to pop on......I thought today was the PC day, but I didn't make it on to see any of the webcams. Probably better that way, as I would have gotten so sad since I wasn't on! :sad2:
I am going to try and keep up, we'll see how I do with that.

I am hanging in there. My vision is slowly starting to come back. I would say I have about 10% back at this point. Everything is in gray scale...
http://www.psych.ucalgary.ca/pace/va-lab/Brian/optic_neuritis_contrast.jpg
that pic is kind of how I am seeing right now, but that pic shows things much clearer than I can see. I can only shadows pretty close to me (like my hand in front of my face), but I can now tell where a window is or something like that....

I'll take all these improvements though and still believe that my sight will be 100% restored very soon. I am still showing no other signs of MS...which I hope to keep that way.

:goodvibes Thanks for all my emails and well wishes! They mean a lot. :goodvibes

Like i said, I am going to try and keep up here again, wish me luck:goodvibes

Hi guys. No good news tonight. I just got home from the emergency room. My leg is not doing well again. Leaking, bleeding, etc. They cleaned it out on the surface and put me on antibiotics. They sent me home to say that they wanted me to go back to my wound care specialist who has been treating me for the past year. They want him to do a deep cleaning. I'm not sure if that can take place in the office or if I'll have to be admitted again. I'll find out tomorrow. So if I disappear again for a little while, you will all understand why. I can't believe I've been in a year of treatment and they're still not well. Last August right after mom's funeral, I went into the hospital to take care of them and don't you know it's another August and I may be going back in. John or I will keep you posted. Say some pixie dust prayers and hope that all gets resolved this time once and for all. I'll be thinking of all of you.

Who has Deb's address? How about a Card Shower?

Oh yummy!!!

My dad will eat green beans at every meal too! Mom has to mix it up as she gets tired of them.

If only we all did what our doctors told us - I had pizza for dinner followed by a fun size twix :scared1:

Only a fun size Twix?:rolleyes1

We all know how sweet Jan is, right? Well, I want to share another example of her big heart! Not sure if anybody remembers, but a while back, she posted a picture of the camo afghan she made for a baby gift, and I'd posted how much Tyler loved it when I showed it to him and he hoped Santa could bring him one. ;)

Well, look what showed up in our mail yesterday for Tyler:

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a14/hollyntyler/P1010106.jpg

Fantastic. well done Jan.:thumbsup2

I'm suffering from horrible biological calendar problems. I feel like it should be Friday today.

Good new is that we got an email this afternoon that the company will close at 2PM tomorrow.

I am slipping into vacation mode very rapidly, even though I go back to work for one day next week, Tuesday.

So, how do Sukie and I count anniversaries after we're married. We've been together for 21 years. What do we count? If it's from the wedding, I'll be 78 years old by the time we reach our 25 wedding anniversary.

Even scarier is that by the time we reach our 25th wedding anniversary, we will have spent 46 years of our lives together :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

The moral if this story is ... be careful who you talk to at a cocktail party. You might wind up, waking up 21 years later, looking over and thinking, "Who the hell are you?"

.

:lmao:

Well, I guess a wedding anniversary is a wedding anniversary(seeing as you ae getting married), but as Nan said, go for 2 celebrations a year. In 25 years you have your Silver Wedding, then just 4 years later you have a Golden Celebration!!! Sorry I probably won't be around to celelbrate.

Since we haven't heard from Deb, I'm wondering if she did wind up having to get admitted to the hospital again. :sad1: I hope she's able to post from there when she feels up to it.

I was wondering how she was and hope she isn't in hospital as she doesn't do well there. I remember last year she was so upset.

WHY DID THE CHICKEN CROSS THE ROAD?

BARACK OBAMA : The chicken crossed the road because
it was time for a change! The chicken wanted change!

JOHN MC CAIN: My friends, that chicken crossed the
road because he recognized the need to engage in
cooperation and dialogue with all the chickens on the other
side of the road.

HILLARY CLINTON : When I was First Lady, I
personally helped that little chicken to cross the road.
This experience makes me uniquely qualified to ensure
"right from Day One! " that every chicken in this
country gets the chance it deserves to cross the road. But
then, this really isn't about me.>

GEORGE W. BUSH : We don't really care why the
chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the
chicken is on our side of the road, or not. The chicken is
either against us, or for us. There is no middle ground
here.

DICK CHENEY : Where's my gun?

COLIN POWELL : Now to the left of the screen, you
can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing
the road.

BILL CLINTON : I did not cross the road with that
chicken. What is your definition of chicken?

GORE : I invented the chicken.

JOHN KERRY : Although I voted to let the chicken
cross the road, I am now against it! It was the wrong road
to cross, and I was misled about the chicken's
intentions. I am not for it now, and will remain against
it.

AL SHARPTON : Why are all the chickens white? We
need some black chickens.

DR. PHIL : The problem we have here is that this
chicken won't realize that he must first deal with the
problem on this side of the road before it goes after the
problem on the other side of the road. What we need to do
is help him realize how stupid he's acting by not
taking on his current problems before adding new problems.

OPRAH: Well, I understand that the chicken is having
problems, which is why he wants to cross this road so bad.
So instead of having the chicken learn from his mistakes
and take falls, which is a part of life, I'm going to
give this chicken a car so that he can just drive across
the road and not live his life like the rest of the
chickens.

ANDERSON COOPER, CNN: We have reason to believe
there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to
have access to the other side of the road.

NANCY GRACE : That chicken crossed the road because
he's guilty! You can see it in his eyes and the way he
walks.

PAT BUCHANAN : To steal the job of a decent,
hardworking American.

MARTHA STEWART: No one called me to warn me which
way that chicken was going. I had a standing order at the
Farmer's Market to sell my eggs when the price dropped
to a certain level. No little bird gave me any insider
information.

DR SEUSS : Did the chicken cross the road? Did he
cross it with a toad? Yes, the chicken crossed the road,
but why it crossed I've not been told.

ERNEST HEMINGWAY : To die in the rain, alone.

GRANDPA: In my day we didn't ask why the chicken
crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the
road, and that was good enough.

BARBARA WALTERS : Isn't that interesting? In a
few moments, we will be listening to the chicken tell, for
the first time, the heart warming story of how it
experienced a serious case of molting, and went on to
accomplish its lifelong dream of crossing the road.

ARISTOTLE : It is the nature of chickens to cross
the road.

JOHN LENNON: Imagine all the chickens in the world
crossing roads together, in peace.

BILL GATES : I have just released eChicken2008,
which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file
your important documents, and balance your checkbook.
Internet Explorer is an integral part of eChicken2008. This
new platform is much more stable and will never
craâ?¦#@&&^(C%..........reboot.

ALBERT EINSTEIN : Did the chicken really cross the
road, or did the road move beneath the chicken?

COLONEL SANDERS: Did I miss one?

Perhaps in some alternate parallel universe in a different space time dimension, parallel Ian and parallel Sukie would do that. Ride around on donkeys and play baseball. They probably also swill moonshine and go on turkey shoots.

However in this space time continuum, you all got stuck with this version of Ian and Sukie.

I guess firstly there would be the option of the WB repo to LA, then from LA to wherever near Alaska, then the start of the summer cruises up there.

I'm up for the PC bit and possibly further up the coast. Not sure I could manage the Alaska one then though.

This is interesting. I can't wait to find out. I can't imagine going from FL to LA and then do another one up the coast. Is that what you mean?

From looking in the past at Repositioning cruises to Alaska that is what happens. Sometimes you can book either, getting off in LA or just staying on. Sometimes it is San diego.

So other than photobucket, what does everybody else use to get pictures posted on here? I don't know how to do it without photobucket. Did I mention I'm severely technologically challenged? ;)

I used Flickr to put all the door magnets I was doing before the cruise.

For all the rest of my pics I use a place called Dropshots.com. I really like them because it is really simple to upload pics to and they are organized based on date (digital cameras encode each pic you take with a little bit of info such as the date it was taken on so long as the date and time on your camera are set correctly). In addition the site allows people to make comments on your pics as well.

You can take a look at my Dropshots page here: www.dropshots.com/knewell

To get a pic to post on the Disboards you have to use what is known as the "image tags". In short you take the website address of the pic (http://www.yourpicsaddress.com/pic1.jpg) and put it in between the "image tags". The tags are "[img ] ____ [/img ] (just take out the spaces).

Your full entry would then look like this (without the spaces):

[img ]http://www.yourpicsaddress.com/pic1.jpg[/img ]

Or if you are in full editor mode there is an icon in the tools that looks like a mountain with a yellow background, click on that and little window will pop open where you put the web address of your pic and hit enter and it will go into your post with the "image tags" automatically.

Probably already answered but I needed to mark my spot. Less than 50 pages to go!

That makes sense but I wouldn't get off either. The cliff divers weren't worth the hassle of getting there. The cab drivers were horrible to me. Maybe we would do an excursion but I heard they were bad too.

Well we did one of the city highlights and cliff Divers tours. We were lucky in that we had a good guide, but it was all such a long hot mess at the cliff divers. Glad we have actually seen it, but no need to venture off ship again!

Any ideas?

We did a pirate birthday for Shaelyn a few years back. We had the kids decorate pirate bandanas. Shannon just cut some cheap white cloth into bandanas and then brought out the markers and the kids coloured on them. You could do pirate bandanas and princess crowns (just use cardboard for the crowns).

Both groups could decorate "treasure chests" as pirates seek treasure chests and princesses have them in their rooms.

Put it this way: Make sure your sleeping bags are rated for temps below 0. And yes I am talking about July and August.

Do you remember how cold it was on deck at night when we got to the Pacific? Those were warm nights in comparison.

Put it this way: Make sure your sleeping bags are rated for temps below 0. And yes I am talking about July and August.

For the record it is noon here and the temp is only 50*F. Monday is supposed to be sunny so it will reach a high of 62*F - but a low of 35*F

I'm here and it has been crazy the last few days. Brooke's birthday turned out alright. I don't think I'll ever wait until 2 days before school starts to have a party. Ethan didn't get his hair cut or a new back pack. I feel bad because, when I dropped him off, I realized none of the other kids had character back packs this year :scared1: I went searching last night but everything is picked over. I guess I'll try again this weekend. Brooke woke up screaming at 3:00 am on Sunday night because her tooth hurt. She didn't stop for hours but insisted on going to her first day of 1st grade. I told her to call me if the motrin wore off and explained to the teacher the situation. Well she told the teacher her tooth hurt and she sent her to the office and the office told Brooke that they didn't call moms for teeth pain :scared1: I already love this teacher! Our dentist is closed on Mondays so she has an appointment today but I'm not sure if they will work on her because she woke up this morning with a fever and a sore throat. So she is home today because I apparently can't trust the school to call me if there is an issue.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

I think I would be upset at the office. The teacher sent Brooke  to them and they are the ones who would not let her call you. Poor baby! Poor Mama! We expect people to take care of our precious kids! :thumbsup2

I hope they all fizzle and nothing really makes landfall! I did just peak at the projected paths...does it look like Hanna might interfere with the Magic's homecoming on Monday? It just seems to be hanging out there off the coast over the weekend......
Oh, how I'd love to be on a ship that wasn't able to make it back on the right day! :cloud9: With travel insurance, that is. One of my co-workers had that happen once on the Magic and they were given a hefty discount off their next cruise. Double bonus! Extra day onboard for free, and discounted next cruise!

HollyTyler
08-29-2008, 06:47 PM
I used Flickr to put all the door magnets I was doing before the cruise.

For all the rest of my pics I use a place called Dropshots.com. I really like them because it is really simple to upload pics to and they are organized based on date (digital cameras encode each pic you take with a little bit of info such as the date it was taken on so long as the date and time on your camera are set correctly). In addition the site allows people to make comments on your pics as well.

You can take a look at my Dropshots page here: www.dropshots.com/knewell (http://www.dropshots.com/knewell)

To get a pic to post on the Disboards you have to use what is known as the "image tags". In short you take the website address of the pic (http://www.yourpicsaddress.com/pic1.jpg) and put it in between the "image tags". The tags are " ____ [/img ] (just take out the spaces).

So I actually could have posted pics from any of the sites I tried, just by using the [img] before and the after. I didn't know that because I'm just used to how easy photobucket is, where you just click on the code and then I plop it into the text of my post and the picture shows up. :rotfl: Photobucket for me is like posting pictures for dummies! I love how easy it is and was so sad when it wasn't working for whatever reason. But it's back now, so I don't have to worry about it. And it wasn't my computer acting up because every other website I went to worked fine. Photobucket just wouldn't fully load on my screen for some reason. Strange.

Our new Mayor has arranged for metal collection boxes to be situated downtown near where pan-handlers hang out. Written on them it says that money put in them will be given to the various programs -- and there are plenty -- in the city that feed, house and clothe people.

Anyone who wants to make a donation can. It will go to people who really know how to help and not to people who want drugs or drinks. The pan-handlers nearby see it happen too.

Thanks - I think I saw foam pirate chest kits at Michael's. With coupons I could probably get them cheap.

She was surprised and told he she thought he'd be going into 2nd or 3rd because he's tall! I don't think he's any taller than kids his age, but we do hear that a lot. Strange conversation though. And then she left. :confused3

So I actually could have posted pics from any of the sites I tried, just by using the before and the after. Strange.

Yep you've got it in a nutshell.

Photobucket might have jsut been having server issues. Also, you might have caught them in a server backup or upgrade which caused the issues as you might have just been working on a back up server.

Wow! You probably never need to buy shorts, do you?

I live in shorts. WEaring them right now in fact with the windows open. I try and wear shorts as often as I can regardless of the weather. However, when I go outside I might change into some pants..... LOL

That ride is scary :scared1: The first time Ethan went on it he was 4 because we thought it was ok since he was tall enough. In the pictures that they take his bottom was way off the seat. It was scarier than it sounds ;)

Shaelyn loved it at 4, she went on it many times in trip in 2005, but the last trip at 6 she tried it once and didn't want to do it again. :confused3

Yup he lives in shorts (looks good too!) We do actually get some warm weather in spring and summer. First weekend in Aug was a nice 90F! At least for day 2 of our camping trip. First night and morning it was cool, but then it warmed up and was perfect.:thumbsup2

When do you want to come up here?

I think I can only do a transatlantic on a "real" ocean liner - just going on the pics from the TA cruises last year there really would be no point in my going. I'd be so  that you guys would never see me :lmao:

What is a real ocean liner? :confused3

Hi everyone! I'm home now and have been skipping and hopping around the thread trying to find where I left off....and it's page 7!:scared1: I'm going to have to get Jackie to fill me in on the last 140 pages!:lmao:

So I see SOME PEOPLE now have tags....well aren't you just *special*???? Even a ~scrolling~ tag! What does it take to get one of those???? I just saw Gayleen's and Nan's; maybe there's more. Congrats, you guys!

I had a nice trip to FL. Good learning experience--even though the weather was fine, the diving wasn't very good. It was too rough to go out until Sat. and even then the visibility was not great. But it was good enough to see the fish (20-30 ft.) and it felt wonderful to be diving again. We had fun in Key West; went on a sunset cruise on Tues. night that we really enjoyed (never done that before). Ken, I was going wild with my camera! I really had fun taking tons of pictures.

I think I'm going to have to call it a night--I think I'm still on EDT (ug!). I woke up at 5 a.m. this morning!

BTW, I was down in Scottsdale last night when that huge storm hit. I don't think Scottsdale got the heavy winds that central Phoenix had, but it was wild! I've lived in AZ my entire life and I've never seen so much lighting in a single storm! Fortunately no hail damage to my car BUT I've got a 20" crack in my windshield! I discovered this Thursday morning before the storm! I'm having very bad car juju lately!

I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone at DL! It's just around the corner. By the time I get my laundry done, it'll be time to pack again! Wheeeee!

One that's build specifically for the rougher sailings of the transatlantic crossings, such as the Cunard line.

I'll crochet you a scarf :thumbsup2

If we have a group going to Alaska together we could have DIS green scarves for the Thread members. If we found a standard yarn brand that had the right color, then no matter where the yarn was bought and who made them, they would match. Style could be variable--some knit and some crochet. People who could make their own could match those who needed to get a DIS-Thread-Buddy to make it for them. :thumbsup2

Gaylean--do you have any sweatshirts? sweatpants? sox? sneakers? :confused3
Sounds like an Alaskan Cruise wardrobe to me! You only need warm clothes for the outdoor times. You are not going to be hiking in the mountains. Just standing on a deck watching glaciers go by. How hard can that be? Put on layers as needed.

OK, now that we have that settled, let's go!

I've been cleaning my bathroom, bit by bit, during the commercial breaks of the news and the show I watched before the news, because I hate cleaning so much, I can't do it all at once. Seems crazy to be cleaning my bathroom on a Friday night! But at least I'm getting a head start on my weekend cleaning plans. :thumbsup2

While we were doing our grocery shopping tonight, I brought up the subject of wedding songs.

Apparently, Sukie knew that there were such things as wedding songs, I did not (what can I say, I've lead a very sheltered existence).

We discussed it an have chosen our wedding song.

I had a lot of trouble finding a good version of it on line, so I have created my own video for it and have done my very first YouTube upload.

And so, without further ado, I now bring you, our wedding song:

this is true ::yes:: I've been known to follow that green mug with blind abandon.

the other night we rode up the target escalator and Paul says "hey look it's a blue BUBBA mug" he was very happy. I think I'll have to get some for Xmas this year for the kiddos :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Wonder if it will fit in my stocking... :confused3
