My DD is thinking of getting a pearl from Japan as a souvie this year. She asked if I could start a thread and see if anyone had pics of these.
How much did it cost? Thanks in advance.

My son got a bunch of pearls from both Blizzard Beach and DTD. The kind that you pick out the shell and then they open it and give you the pearl inside. They varied in size and color (most white, one was black). They cost about $19.95 each I believe.

It was really fun. And my kids both got very pretty pearls. Yuko was great, and announced it to the whole store when one of the pearls was extra large.

I did this over 14 years ago, got a beautiful pearl. I'm glad they still do it, I'll get another one and make a set of earrings! ;)
Sorry I don't have a photo. :confused3

I'd love to see too. I'm going to have dd (8) and dd (6) pick a pearl and ds (6) will pick mine. I'd love to have them set for us, so us girls all have a great keepsake.

Thx for the pics my DD is looking at them now. It seems like such a neat experience. If anyone has any more pics they would like to share. Like to see or hear if you made them into anything (necklace, ring, earrings, etc) while you were there! THX!

I'm considering doing this on our upcoming trip. It sounds like fun. Will they show you the settings before you buy a pearl? I never really walked up close to the counter before, but I've seen others get them before.

We didn't have anything made with them bc as you can see from the picture, they are TOTALLY different colors. I thought that was so cool that they were so different - just like my 2 kids! One is a pretty pink color and the other is golden. My son really didn't care to have anything made of his, and my DD4 was a little too young to have any fancy jewelry. Maybe next trip we will bring them back and see what we can do with them.

I got a pearl from the Japan pavillion on my last trip in Feb. It was really cool, and I got my pearl put into the least expensive ring base (I think it was the least expensive?) Well, It was about $40 for the ring, in addition to the $15 just to get the pearl (I think. Sorry, lol, crappy teen memory!) But I LOVELOVELOVE my ring! I wear it almost every day. Heres a picture.

ETA: Now that I think about it, the ring may have been cheaper than that. I'm not totally sure.

I got one and my pearl was blue. We had it set as a pendant with a diamond. I think we paid like $15 for the pearl and like $80 for the diamond pendant. We bought the chain when we got home.

I wouldn't have thought of it like that!:goodvibes I am kinda nervous if I don't get hers put in a setting there her 2 little brothers might have it lost before we make it home. Heck maybe before we leave Epcot :lmao:

DD got pearls on our last visit. We both had them set for necklaces. It was so much fun that I told DH that he could get Xmas, my BD & our anniversary all done at once the next visit.

He agreed!!!

This is one of them drilling a hole in one of DD's pearls.

I recommend, if you get a pearl, not to get it set into anything in Disney. Bring the pearl home and take it to a local jeweler and you'll get a much better deal, better quality, and it's local in case there is a problem later.

My cousin got a pearl the first time she went and got it set into a Necklace at disney and the quality was...sub-par.

Anyway, I have a couple of pictures....they aren't too great but here you go:

(They were huge so i just gave you the links)

The first just shows the little station and the guy opening up the clam/oyester thing after you choose it...and the second shows a closer photo of the guy pulling out the pearl and the little thing they use to measure it on afterwards. Sorry about the poor quality, but hopefully they help.

What is this? Do you just pick a clam, and that is 'finding' a pearl? And they open it for you? This sounds neat, but I have never heard of it.....

TIA :thumbsup2

MomtoEmIs&Ow: Yes, basically. There's a big tank filled with lots of clams and you chose a clam...they open it up for you and you get the pearl inside...some bigger/smaller than others and different colours. They x-ray the clams or whatever first though, of course, to guarantee you get one.

It is very neat; I think it's around $20 and a really nice souvineer you can take home and make into a great piece of jewelry. :)

Hadn't thought about getting a setting here at a local jeweler. Might call today and check out some prices. Pics look great! I wonder if anyone has found a HUGE pearl. Thanks for the pics.

Anybody have any more pics of their experience. I think it's neat because no ones are exactly alike

There's a thread in the theme park attractions and strategies board you should check out.

I REALLY recommend it! Such a better value. I dont know if its like this everywhere, but around where I live there are just a few "local" jewelers that everyone trusts and are good about offering guarantees and whatnot. Prolly can't get that from Disney.

Plus, It's a great way to let the excitement of the trip overflow till when you get home...Good way to ease the post-disney blues because you get to go pick our your setting and look forward to getting it back. :yay:

Wish I had more photos to share!
