Day 4
Cast: Myself 40ish
Sister MUCH older 40ish :)
Both sans children and hubbies
Got up and made the mandatory pot of Dunkin Donuts coffee,,,,watched the sunrise over the Boarwalk…..ah life is good! I managed to drag Sis outta bed (after I took pix of her sleeping with mouth agape :)) around 8 by letting her smell the coffee. Good thing my camera didn’t have sound….her snoring would have shattered the speakers! Btw, the sofa was very comfortable,,I recommend NOT pulling it out to a bed, if you only have one person sleeping on it. I tossed a bunch of eggs in the blender, added some REAL cream, and whipped em up! For you cholesterol conscious folks, it works just as good with water added. Scrambled eggs come out so nice and fluffy that way and had some raisin toast with it.
I called DVC and was late for my tour….She said “come ahead” so we went down to the boardwalk to the DVC office. My “tour” lasted about 25 minutes (thanks to this board I already knew most of the details) must be some record for the shortest tour :) Got to see a model of WLV and BCV, both very different but very nice. My eye was on the Beach Club but I must say, the WLV model reminded me more of my roots in New England. After living in Florida for so long, you miss that woodsy décor that is just not found down here. The guides laughed and joked with us whilst putting a name sticker on my sister (she insisted her name was Snow White!) After the tour, I signed up for 150 BCV pts at the office, (luckily I had an extra $500.00 for the deposit), and used the $5.00 off incentive which was applied to my purchase. My sister was VERY interested in the DVC after the tour and I hope she can convince her hubby to buy in. So now Im just waiting for the papers (didn’t want to take the time to complete the transaction, which was no problem) to arrive via Fedex! :)
I talked her into going to Magic Kingdom, so off we went on the bus. The lines weren’t too bad (surprisingly) and we went to the town hall to get info and the CM took out a map and circled the “must sees” for us, then strolled around Main Street.
We went on PoC first which was nice to get a cool breeze,,,,very tame ride though, wasn’t overly impressed but good for tame ride folks LOL. Darn, didn’t see Alladins Magic Carpet (as I check my map now). Would have liked to try that.
Then we did the BTMRR which was fun as always (ever notice how you feel like you have to duck to avoid those overhangs?)
Went into the Hall of Presidents because I really wanted to see Bush (new addition) but Sis said she didn’t really didn’t want to sit through it, so in the interest of saving time, we left (spoiled brat) I was surprised to see a McDonalds french fry stand there in MK, must be something new. We went over to the Haunted Mansion which really disappointed me, though it was a relaxing ride and the ghost in your car was cute. It should be renamed “Not so scary Haunted Mansion”. But that’s just my opinion and Im sure little ones like it that way. I just love a real good scare though, and hadn’t had a good scare since the movie “Wait Until Dark” with Audrey Hepburn many years ago, but I digress.
Somewhere around here we went to lunch at the Columbia Harbour House (counter service) where it was nice and cool and quiet. She had the chowder in the bread bowl, we split a chicken and fish basket, and I ordered a mac & cheese. (they didn’t list a side order of it so I got the kids meal) It was pretty good and the price was right. Very relaxing too. The CMs we encountered kept saying “hello, Snow White”…..too funny!
Off to Peter Pans Flight and Winnie the Pooh,,,both were cute and (Winnie was better). We skipped Toontown as the place was getting crowded and headed to Tomorrowland. Skipped “Small World” (didn’t want that song in my head for a week like last time, LOL) I couldn’t get Sis to go on Space Mountain (bad back and knees) so we went on TTA (nice relaxing and scenic ride) and would have stayed on the ride if we could have (like last time I was there) This is a MUST do if you’ve been working your way clockwise around MK. Its about 15 minutes and you get a glimpse of the inside of SM, but more importantly, you get a nice long rest in the shade :). When I went with my kids, I rode that one night about a dozen times….it was the meeting spot where my kids could find me….and they would come join me, then off to do a ride, then come join me…..it worked out super (Mom needs her rest, mind you) We did Buzz Light Year and were halfway through the ride when I realized you supposed to spin your car, LOL. (or was that MIB we went on at Universal?) Dang that CRS kicking in again. Unfortunately, Timekeeper and Carousel of Progress were closed.
The park was getting crowded so we caught a bus back to the BWV. We strolled around the boardwalk and over across the lagoon to check out SAB. The pool was VERY nice and looked so inviting in the heat. We went to the stand and bought virgin strawberry coladas for 3.75 apiece. The ones with booze were 6.75 (thanks to the nips in our fanny packs, we saved 6 dollars :)) They were wonderful! The bottom had the strawberry daquiri and the top had the pina colada,,,,so refreshing!
We then went back to the room to rest a minute and got ready for DD. Of course we had to stop at ESPN to see if the Red Sox were on tv before boarding the bus. We were getting hungry so we scooted over to Epcot first to grab an order of fish n chips from the Rose & Crown, then off to DD. Did I mention before that I only had to pay $5.00 for Pleasure Island after the first nite? Some deal where you can go every nite after that for the week, and not pay again. We browsed around listening to outdoor music but I soon became so tired that I couldn’t keep my eyes open. We hopped the bus back to BWV (never had to wait more than ten mins.)
Now of course we can’t go back to the room without a stop at the ESPN. I ordered a club wrap to go and we headed to the room. We got on the elevator to the fourth floor, my sister got out but I had dropped my fanny pack and of course the zipper wasn’t closed and the contents spilled out…meanwhile the door closed and it would NOT open again! The most it would do was open an inch, close altogether, open an inch, and close again. OH chit, I said “Teresa, get me outta here!” She tried prying the doors open with her hands, as did I, but to no avail. Now Im feeling claustrophobic, but trying to stay calm (never happened to me before, but I was always afraid it would someday). I tried all the buttons and none would work. I pushed the alarm button for a second, but it was late and I was afraid we were waking everyone up. Then I spotted the elevator telephone door, opened it and picked up the phone. A man answered “911, what is your emergency” Yikes, I would have thought the phone would ring down in the lobby. I told him I was stuck on the elevator at the BWV and couldn’t get out. He asked “Are you in distress, sir?” Grrr……I said “Im not a sir! And no, Im not in distress, YET!” “Okay, sir, we’ll get someone over there as soon as possible” Now I know I have a deep voice, but this guy was starting to annoy me so I just said OK. Well no one came and after 15 minutes and my sister is outside laughing so hard her sides hurt! I called back, again he said “theyre on their way, sir” Grrr….if I could have reached through phone! Now its getting close inside and Im feeling pretty hot,,,,AND I’m getting an attitude! I told my sister to go make me a frozen mudslide in the room with an extra long straw in it, as I was thirsty :) But she didn’t want to leave me there alone (she wanted a few more laughs). Then she spots the house phone over on a table, DOH,,,and I told her to call downstairs. Ten minutes later a couple of employees came up with some kind of tool and finally got the dang door open! They were apologetic, and put some duct tape across door opening so no one would use it…(they said they couldn’t shut it down because then it would have to be reprogrammed). Guess what I had when I got back to the room :) Make it a double, Tree!
Now I want to sit down and enjoy the sandwich, but ewww…..the cheese was hard around the edges (like it was left out in the open for a long period) and the bacon was raw! Gross. Now Im really ticked, LOL. Normally I would just throw it away and forget about it, but I saved it and I actually brought it back the next day for a refund, just on principle. They were very nice about it, though.
We checked out in the morning, and headed over to Universal (see trip report on the Universal board) to meet Robin (Robinrs) and her son Michael. It was a wonderful girl’s trip, and I just loved the BWV (wish I could have bought in there), but Im sure Ill be happy with the Beach Club :)
