Well, I checked the meet calandar and didn't find any threads for this date, so I guess I will start one.
I just booked this out of sheer sadness. :sad1: There were 14 of us originally to be leaving this Sunday August 17, 08 on a double dip, but my dad got really sick and we had to cancel the last minute (Aug. 15).
We are in Cat 3, 8534. When I called Disney they offered the change, which after August 31 will go away. Yep, they will no longer offer to apply it to a future cruise, and we would be out $2000! The insurance does not pay back the "non-refundable" deposit. Knowing this now, I will never book this category again!
Ok, nuff of dat! Now to plan the NEW cruise. One thing I will miss is all the buddies I made on the meet thread for this one, but I am sure we will gather a "plethora" of new ones, and maybe some from this years. So if you wouldn't mind, state your name, age (if you wish) and those of your traveling party, along with your room and time of dinner, and where you are from. I will keep a running tally....I'll go first...

Hello Coach Rick! Sorry to hear about your dad. We were originally scheduled for Oct 2009 during a school break, but found out the Wonder will be in dry dock. DU worked overtime to get us into the connecting SPH rooms for this cruise in August.
Cast will be me (Mary), dh (Paul), dd who will be 10 at cruise time, ds 8 and ds 6. First time cruise for us. We are new DVC members and will probably try to tack on a DVC stay at the end of the cruise if possible. We are also looking forward to meeting new dis'ers on the cruise. Oh, if I am remembering correctly, we are early dinner.

Welcome Tink Lover...Thanks for your well wish's. Now starts the new plan...Since you are a first time cruiser, if you have any questions fire away. While I have only done one cruise, I have planned the heck out of this last one that never happened I can help some. We have owned DVC since 02, and the memories it has created for us is absolutely priceless.

Hey - Coach Rick - you and my dh are going to get along fabulously!!! He was/is a hockey coach also. He coached high school boys and in fact, one of his teams went to the MN State HS Hockey Tourney. He "retired" from coaching the older boys after we adopted our boys from Russia. Now he coaches the little kids again.
And we will have three RJ's as that is my little guy also.
Michelle - How did you like the GC hotel? We will be calling this week to see if we can use our developer points there over spring break. We are new AKV owners as of last month.
Did either of you rent a room at the Atlantis or similar hotel in the Bahamas?
I'm wondering how early I need to do something like that?

Cool tink lover...all three of my kids play too. My oldest DD just graduated from Salve Regina. She quit playing her senior year because of her workload, but she had tried out at 16 for the Olympic team back in 2000, and then got chosen to go to the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center, for the national goaltending camp in her senior year in high school. That was a hoot... For me, well I am thrilled to be one of 5 founding coaches to put together the high school girls program for the state of RI. It was a thrill to see girls begin and excel at a sport that had been long dominated by males.
I have not used the Atlantis, but visited on a tour by one of the best island taxi guides in Nassau. But in my professional opinion, booking there for the day program is not a huge issue. BTW, it's much cheaper to book at the Comfort Inn, and still gives you access to all the amenities at the Atlantis.

Hi Mary!
We absolutely loved the GC!! We stayed there in 2006 and 2007. The first year we used our points for a standard room, as my oldest son had to attend a mandatory basketball camp and could not join us. Last year we used points for a studio!! I loved both rooms!! Disney at its finest for sure! I would not hesitate to go again!! I'm a bit partial to California though as I grew up there!!
We have also used our points to stay at Shutters on the beach in Santa Monica! A wonderful retreat after doing Disney for sure!!
As far as Atlantis goes, we were thinking of splurging and doing the Atlantis Aquaventure rather than booking a day room at Comfort Suites. Not 100 percent sure though. Thankfully, we have time to decide.
My hubby unfortunately is not a hockey coach! He is a firefighter that loves sports though!! Hope that counts! Go Mariners!! Go Seahawks!

It may be at 75 day outs, although I think it can be 90 days out if you are castaway club members. I also think we can do all the reservations and signs up for kids club online now. That is way cool!!!!! We did Palo's last time and the food was divine!!

OK, really newbie question...I know what you get when you do CL at a resort. What do you get for concierge level on the cruise? Have you booked that level before? I will say that even though I read the balcony was not an issue, it just makes me feel better for this first cruise not having it for the boys (fondly nicknamed Frick and Frack). If we like this and want to do it again, I think we will book one cat 6 and an opposite 11 so that we can have the balcony.

Well, the most impressive thing is, IMO, you get a separate check in desk, and you get on the ship quicker, and you get to have a special reception with the Captain, and you obviously get a larger room, in our case a 1 br suite, and you get to order anything from any restaurant for room service, and the triple wide veranda is pretty cool, and of course as mentioned, first dibs on ressies for Palo and everything else...ok, I'm done...

Mary, we had a balcony the last time we cruised and I absolutley hated it!! It totally freaked me out! I was so afraid my boys would fall overboard!! Scary! We opted for the inside staterooms just to relieve my fears!! LOL
Michelle
Coach Rick
08-28-2008, 06:43 PM
I can certainly understand your fears, but at 15, 18, and 24, I am not that worried about it. :)
Personally I think I would freak out if I couldn't look outside and see daylight. I just loved sitting on the veranda early in the morning the day at sea, and watching the sun come up on the ocean! It was so very quiet, and serene, and absolutely breathtaking. Yeah, I know I could have gone up to deck 10 for that, but I wouldn't be sitting up there in my bathrobe. :scared1:

Here's another question for you (can you tell I have been thinking about this lately?) - where did you purchase your trip insurance from? I keep thinking we will be cruising this time next year and watching the hurricanes going through.
Coach Rick - I mentioned to my dh that you coached girls hockey and he wondered if you know a friend of ours who is the girls coach at Shattuck-St. Mary's in MN. It is a pretty elite hockey program for boys and they have been working on the girls program as well.
Michelle - Glad someone understands my balcony phobia. My guys are 18 months apart but because the older one spent his first two years in an orphanage, he still has some "catching up" to do and often acts younger.
Have a great labor day weekend!

Hi everyone,
We just rebooked onboard for the 8/16/09 cruise this past week. We are trying to check into DS11's mandatory football camp schedule for when he starts junior high next August to make sure we can keep this date. We had some Dis friends also rebook for this date and some that might book it from our 8/24/08 cruise.
I'm Danielle (35) and will be cruising with my husband Derek (35), son Keegan (then 12) and Brennan (then 8). It will be our 8th Disney cruise.

OK - I have to get back to planning my Oct solo trip to WDW with the kids. We are doing 2 nights at POP, then 3 at WL and attending the MNSSHP. Unfortunately, dh can't take the time off work to go with us.
Have a great week everyone!

Our cruise was GREAT, thanks,
We've been 3 or 4 times in August and I'd have to say this year was the wettest, but it was totally bearable and still lots of fun. It didn't damper our touring plans. We just put on ponchos and did our thing. It was cooler than the other August trips, so that was nice.
We've stayed at both Pop and the WL and enjoyed them both a lot. I've done a couple of last minute trips without DH over the past 18 months. I went with DS7 for Star Wars weekends in 2007 and 2008 and over "spring break" for a few days this past April. DH is a police officer and can't always get off when we want him to at the last minute. I booked a trip this past June just 10 days before we went so it was just ds7 and I. DS 11 didn't want to miss baseball so he stayed home with dh and my parents (they live a block away). We went for 5 days over a "Spring Break" in April. The boy's school district decided to give them a Friday and Monday off for the 1st time this year in April, calling it Spring Break and we took an extra day off (They had 2 days off at Easter). My DH ended up coming and surprising us the last 2 days we were there. We went on TOT at DHS and he was standing in the gift shop when we got off. He'd called right before we got on "missing us and asking what we were up to" so he knew where we were.
If you haven't been to MNSSHP, you will love it. I keep checking ding rates to see if we could throw in a quick trip over Columbus Day weekend. We did that last year---for $34 each way on Southwest. I have a strong feeling it's not going to happen this year though! The lowest I've seen is $72. We had a really great time at MNSSHP. We have APs and belong to DVC so it was just airfare, MNSSHP tickets and meals to worry about after getting into the Beach Club. Are you all dressing up? The boys wore real light uniforms/costumes and ended up taking them off they were so hot. I particularly loved the parade , especially the headless horseman and the grave diggers doing their little dance with sparking shovels.

09-10-2008, 07:26 PM
Danielle - if your son is a Star Wars fan, he and my boys will get along great. After reading that your dh is an officer I just want to say Bless You to both of you! It takes amazing people to be in that line of work. Fourteen years ago, my younger brother's best friend was shot and killed in the line of duty so I totally realize the risk that those officers take every day. Thank you!!
I'm torn on whether to dress up for MNSSHP. I keep thinking it would be fun, but a pain to haul the costumes and what if they want to take them off because they get hot/the costumes are in the way/etc. If you had it to do again, would you dress up or not? BTW - the kids do not know about this trip. I plan to pick them up from school on Tuesday and tell them to pack because we are leaving the next day for Disney!! They will be missing 2 days of school but it is over our teacher's break. I love Florida in October.

Our very first cruise was in August of 2004. The weather was incredible in every way. However, the day we arrived back at port, hurricane Frances rolled on in !! Now that was crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August can be iffy for sure, but the rates are so good and affordable!! I am totally throwing caution to the wind and going for it!!!! I am actually more worried about the fire season here and not being able to get away (husband is a firefighter) than the hurricanes there though. Anyway, no worries now!! Hello everyone, and welcome aboard to all the new shipmates. I have not been on the past couple of weeks. Unfortunately my dad passed away two weeks ago, and my head has just not been in the right place. He was my absolute best friend, and I feel so totally lost without him. But I can just hear him saying to get moving with life. Mom is doing better than I thought, and in fact may be joining us on our cruise. We were all supposed to go this past August, but dad took a turn for the worst, and had to cancel theirs, and fortunately DCL allowed me to rebook mine to this one.
Anyhow, I just wanted to say hello, and I will update our shipmate count and add you all to our list of "Cruise O Maniacs" :cool1:

We just booked for this cruise last week. We did our first cruise last August and apart from a major noise issue in our original cat 6 stateroom that meant moving to a cat 5, we had a great time.

Thanks T-L. Yeah, I am very excited she will be joining us. She so wanted to go this past summer. My sister on the other hand is not into it at all, but will most likely go to cheer up mom.
Woohoo !! It's November, so that means it's Christmas next month :santa:
Baaa Humbug....
Just finished planning and setting up all the goodies for a client leaving on the December 7 Wonder. Now, Wish I was going! You know, in college I worked at an ice cream factory, and got to taste all the ice cream we made there. YUMMY...I only wish I got to sample everything I do for my travel clients. :lmao:

I hope you all had a lovely Hallowe'en. What did you get up to ? If you've got any pics of your house decorated or you in fancy dress, then please post them, it would be lovely to see them :)
We had a go at carving some pumpkins for the first time this year, I'll try and up load my photo's and post them.
Over on the UK Community, I'm a bit of a Christmas Nut ;) (Jakkie can vouch for me :rotfl2: :rotfl2: ) and as you can see I've have changed my avatar and signature as the countdown to Christmas begins
I'll vouch for the fact that Mandy is Christmas mad :santa: I reckon if she could go on a Christmas cruise with Stitch, she'd be in seventh heaven :cloud9:
Have you started your Christmas shopping yet ? Most of mine has been done as I want to concentrate on buying stuff for my trip to WDW in late December
Don't forget that our American friends will want to celebrate Thanksgiving before they'll think about Christmas, it's only us mad lot that have all our Christmas decorations in the shops already
I really wish we were going back to WDW for Christmas again as we had a fantastic time over there, but with my dad being so ill we want to spend Christmas with my parents.
Looking forward to hearing how every one else is getting on

LOL Jakki, I forgot all about Thanksgiving, sorry everyone.
Sorry to hear that your dad is unwell, I can totally understand why you would want to spend Christmas with your family. I hope you have an extra special one :)
Everyone else ~ How are your Thanksgiving plans coming along ? My friend on another Cruise forum has got all her food plans sorted, and she is planning to decorate for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving
Have a lovely day everyone :)

Hi all! My name is Traci and I am brand new to the boards and Disney Cruising. We went on our first the end of Sep beginning of Oct of this year and fell in love.:thumbsup2 So much that we booked our next three days after we got back (had no clue we could do it on the ship and get a credit…good to know for the future.) Our next cruise is a 4 day Aug 16 and we are so excited. I am married with 2 kids. DD is 12 and DS 1s 9. My DH is in the Navy and will most likely be deployed when we go so it will just be the kids and I along with my parents. We have put our deposit down but have not got a room number yet. I did request an Ocean view room and the first dinner seating. My kids are bugging me to take them to do the Dolphin Encounter but I am a water buff and keep going back and forth between that and the Sting Ray Adventure. Anyway that a little about me. I can’t wait to meet some people who will be cruising the same time as us. I am sure there is so much more offered that I don’t know about yet.
Names would help LOL

Sorry I have been away!! My oldest son Russell broke his arm in his last home football game a couple of weeks ago!! It was horrible!! He attempted to recover a fumble and someone fell on him!! Go figure with football!! LOL
I really did not know he even injured himself because after he broke it, he just casually got up and walked off the field. When the coaches and medical team huddled around him, I knew...............
With what seemed like an eternity in the stands, I was soon beside him on the sidelines. Thankfully, I got there after his arm was splinted as I was told it was shaped in a V moments before!! I seriously would have thrown up had I seen that!! Anyway, his radius was broken literally in half and his wrist was dislocated!! He had surgery that evening and now has a plate and 8 screws in his right arm along with a huge cast!! I totally feel so badly for him as it is his senior year and he will be out of sports now until Spring. The good news is that we are spending a lot of time together and that has been fun.......for me at least!! LOL
I will definitely have to post some pictures if someone can explain how to do that!! I'd like to include some on Halloween too! My daughter Paige was Hillary Clinton! What a reaction we got!! Too funny!
Anyway, that is what has been going on in my world! Has anyone started looking for flights to Florida yet? I did the other day and they are still super high!! Oh well, going no matter how much they may cost!! I can not wait for this cruise!

Traveling from Europe we usually have our flights booked about 11 months in advance as they only get more expensive the closer you get. This year though I've got our flights going to Florida booked but not our ones home yet :scared1: I'd better get on and get that sorted :goodvibes

We're arriving on 21st July and so far have two nights at OKW but I might try and change that at 7 months. It's Niamh's birthday on 22nd July and she's so excited to be finally spending her birthday in Florida (and even more excited that Disney will be giving her a gift card :rotfl: ) We're then staying in a private villa until the cruise but will book a couple of nights down at Vero. We love it there and a trip to Florida wouldn't be complete with out spending some time there. It's not quite Castaway Cay but it's a close second. We're hoping to fly home on 22nd August and if I ever get the flights sorted we'll spend our last two nights after the cruise on site somewhere. I might see what, if any, AP rates I can get before deciding where.
I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend

It's when the ship stops twice at Castaway Cay and on a 4 night cruise you'd loose the day at sea but get the extra stop at CC. I'd love to do a double dip as CC was our favorite part of the cruise :)

Hi all! Snow is on the ground and it looks like Christmas! We had thought for a while that we would change our cruise date into 2010 - we were originally booked for Oct 2009 during a school break but found out Wonder would be in dry dock. Moved to August but were not sure as we are already going to Disneyland over spring break in 2009 and have another summer vacation planned at a golf resort so it just seemed like a lot to do 3 vacations next year. However, after re-pricing cruises in 2010  we decided to stick. Last week I booked our AKV for after the cruise. So we will see about the summer trip. It will be fun meeting people here before the actual trip!

Hi!!! Just curious how the cruises for 2010 were pricing out? Expensive, huh? Were you looking at both the 4 day and 7 day? Our first cruise was a 4 day in August of 2004, and we were surprised that this 4 day cruise was not that much higher. I mean it was more expensive but not exorbitantly so. Other 4 day and 7 day crisues were just out of the park in the expense dept. I could not fathom what they were charging.
Glad this trip is doable!

We really wanted to do the 5 day double dip in 2010 but it was coming out about $1,200 more expensive and I really couldn't justify that price fir one extra day :scared1: so we're doing another 4 day

Michelle - I should have probably footnoted the thing about the price for us. Because we were originally booked in Oct and ship was going into dry dock, they honored our price when moving the booking to August. But as I posted earlier, we have not been sure about this time. When the deal came out this week, we moved our cruise again. I wanted to post this for you guys in case anyone is interested - the secret porthole rooms should be available because that's what we were booked in. Good luck if someone can grab them! Have a great time!

They are six rooms on Deck 5 that are sold as Category 10 inside staterooms, but they have obstructed view portholes. They used to be Category 8 but people complained about the view and they were re-classified as Category 10.
I called and tried to get them as we've got connecting Category 9's but they had already gone

we have snow! YUK!!!!!!! I was so hoping we could avoid it all together this year, but heck no! It is here, and it is sticking! UGH!! I guess I should be thankful it came late. I never get to continue outdoor runs this late in the year, and up until Thursday, I was able to. Now it looks like I will ahve to get on the dreaded treadmill. I guess things could be worse, however, seeing the snow and feeling hte cold, I can not wait to hit the beaches!! I am soooooooooooo looking foward to this cruise. The only glitch in the trip was that my oldest son was just accepted to Washington State University. They happen to start classes in August! Just my luck, right? Anyway, we get back to land just a few days before class begins. On on first cruise, when we landed, we were stuck in Florida for an extra few days due to the hurricane. So pray for calm waters and clear skies!! WE plan to fly out the day we get back so that gives us enough time, unless of course, weather precludes this all together!! I want a huricanne free season for Christmas! That is all I want...............

Welcome aboard our Cruise thread Karen. I'm Mandy, I'm from the UK and I'll be travelling with my hubby Paul and 2 DD's Kerry and Becky (who will be 18 & 16 when we Cruise)
Right now, posting photos, here goes ..
First download your photos onto your computer. Then you need to find somewhere to host your photos. I use photobucket.com. You need to register, then you can start downloading your photos onto there
Basically, first you choose the size of your pictures (I use 640 x 480 as they're not too big), you click browse and the file on your computer will come up. Choose the file you wish to download and press open, then upload on photobucket and it with upload it (sorry this is very longwinded)
Once you photo is uploaded, copy the IMG Code and paste it on here, then hopefully it will appear
I hope that helps, and I look forward to seeing your picture
Mandy :)

I have two little girls on will be almost 7 and the other just 2 when we disembark. We right now have late seating because we booked late but are on the wait list for early dinner. I cannot remember my room number right now as I am at work but I'm pretty sure it's category 8. We are also headed to Disney for 5 day's after. Hope to see some of you there!
Hi there! My DD (7) will be glad that she will have a friend her age on the cruise. We have late seating, too and are on the waitlist for early. We are also in a Cat 8 and heading to WDW for 5 days after!!
Okay, friends...are we planning a Fish Extender Swap and Dis Meet?? We are on board (literally, he he)! I would also be happy to get one organized, if not!

Thanks, Mandy!! It worked! Glad to meet you! BTW, The dress you wore to Palo in the picture above is beautiful!
Here we are at "the point" at the Poly this past May.

I love your photo, did you stay at The Poly ? If you did, then you're so lucky, I would love to stay there. We usually stay at the Pop Century, but have visited The Poly for breakfast with Lilo & Stitch. It's a beautiful resort :thumbsup2

We haven't mentioned Meets or Fish Extender Exchanges yet, but I would love to take part in both. We did the FE exchange last Summer, and it was lots of fun ::yes::

Unfortunately, we were just dining at the Poly. Our friends brought us to the point to show us where they got married (we met them after they were married a few years).
We are DVC members, so we tend to stay at the DVC resorts, but I would love to stay at the Poly sometime, too!
I'm glad to hear there may be some interest in the FE exchange and maybe a meet!
We are trying to decide (I know there is still time :)) on what to do when the ship arrives in Nassau. My DD will be 7 then, but she is not fond of the big rides, so I wonder if Atlantis would be fun for her. What have you guys enjoyed in Nassau?

Hi Karen. We're not big fans of Nassau. The first time, we walked into the town and we hated being harrassed by people asking us if we wanted taxis or getting our DD's hair braided. So for the last few trips we have just got off the ship to take photos in the port, and then we've taken advantage of a quiet ship :thumbsup2
I hope everyone is having a nice weekend :)

Hello Everyone!!
We just booked this cruise. Joining you all on your *Wonder*ful journey will be myself (Karen-Mom/OCD planner), John (DH/Is happy to be cruising for the 1st time), Colby (DS-10 at sailing/excited for his 1st cruise) and Kaylee (DD-7 at sailing/happy to come along for the ride..er..sailing).
We are celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary and DD's birthday. We are booked in Cat 8.
So looking forward to this trip and maybe meeting up with all of you!!
We haven't cruised before, and if someone will be kind enough to explain how, I'd be happy to share a pic of our most recent WDW trip!

Same here kinda. We love Atlantis when we went but the cost to go there was not worth it but they didn't have the water park then either so IDK now. We are also going to take advantage of a quiet ship this time since we've been to Atlantis.

So, for those of us who will be at WDW before and after the cruise, I am curious to know what your plans are for getting to the port and back?
I thought 70/pp was a lot for transfers on DCL, so I rented a car each way. The total came to approx $140.
My DH thinks that renting a car each way is going to be a headache (getting a shuttle to the car rental from the resort to the rental agency, and such) so he had me check the price for a town car.
The price with tip for a town car is approx what DCL would charge for the transfer, but the nice thing is we don't have to stop at any other Disney resorts and we can leave when we want.
I think I might cancel the rental and book the town car service. I just cannot believe the cost to get 4 of us from WDW to the port, which is only an hour or so away is so expensive!

We will be flying in a day before we port on the 15 and staying at the Marriot at the Orlando Airport. They take care of a whole bunch of shuttle check in stuff for you so it's really easy then we will take the Meers shuttle to the port. On the way back we will also be taking the shuttle to the Pop Century it's really easy. I'd love to have a car on the way there since the last shuttle going to the port is at like 10:00 am so those of you who have cruised before know what a bad wait this is once you get there, but everyone pretty much has to disembark at the crack butt of dawn so it's not like you can sleep in and take your time in the morning either. I think my breakfast time last time was 6:30 or something like that. Not to mention I like to get off the boat ASAP because finding your luggage in your room number area and getting in and through the disembarkment line can be a bunch of not fun. IDK if this helped but I hope. I'd say it's a matter of what is easy.

We'll have already been in Florida for about 3 and a half weeks before the cruise so we'll have a hire car. We're spending our last 5 days after the cruise at SSR and we're trying to decide if we should keep the car or just use Disney buses and take ME back to the airport

How are you doing today ?
Has anyone started any Cruise shopping yet ? I was lucky enough to pick up a new dress and a Summer top in the sales. And as it's a new year, I always treat myself to a new swimming tankini and shorts set and new sunglasses (I haven't seen any yet though :) )
Also the diet has started, unfortunately I'm not very good at the weekend, but thankfully I get weighed on a Friday :rotfl:
Anyway, I hope you're all keeping well

I don't think the gift has changed for a while. Last Summer I got a black and red back with some Castaway Club things in it, like a mesh bag, water bottles and notebook & pen

Hi everyone, Nope, no real shopping as of yet. I have 10 lbs. to loose to be where I want to be and I'm working on it. I'm an avid runner but at 6 degrees here today and freezing all the time lately I just cannot get outside it's way to cold and I don't belong to a gym. I'm also getting a new work out in a few weeks it's a kettlebell work out and I'm really looking forward to that I think it will get me in a lean mean Disney Cruise machine mode. I've been doing lots of crunches and push ups for now I hope I get results. I did try and some bikinis yesterday but I'm waiting for now.

Boy oh boy...take a couple weeks off and you get sacked...:rotfl2:
Nah, been so busy with the kids and hockey. Doing ok...I am just starting to get really excited for the pending trip!
I gotta share this...My DS (18) and youngest DD (14) are both playing on the same high school ice hockey team. They don't have a girls team at our high school, so my DD decided she loved it that much to play on and against the boys...now the neat part...I have gotten to see both of them on the ice together. Ok, don't sound like much, but since he is a senior (and captain I might add) and she is a freshmen, that is quite a feat. Most freshmen don't get to play much, so to see them out there together...well, I just busted a few buttons those nights!
Ok, let me get caught up now...Thanks MandyMouse for filling in for me in my rude absence.. ;)

Hey Everyone
I hope you're all having a lovely weekend. What are your plans ? Are you doing anything nice ?
It's my DD Kerry's 18th birthday today. We've got a busy weekend. We're meeting my mum and dad for breakfast this morning, then tonight we're going for a meal at our fave Chinese all-you-can-eat buffet with some of her friends, then tomorrow we're eating out for Sunday dinner
She isn't getting many presents today, as we celebrated her birthday when we went to WDW in the New Year, and part of her present was taking her best friend to WDW too. If you would like to read what we got up to for her '18th birthday', you can find it here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2066175

Our weekend has a few things going on. Tonight we are attending a benefit dance for a local family that lost their home in a fire and did not have insurance :(. They kids are coming, too. I hope to dance the night away!! It will be a low alcohol night, though with kids in tow :)
Tomorrow, I am taking the kids to see Disney on Ice. I am kinda excited about this because I get to see Mickey and it is a little time to do something *different*. In the afternoon, the kids will go sledding and in the evening, I gather we will catch some of the superbowl.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend, too!!

Just found out my aunt ( only a few years older than I am) WILL BE CUISIN with us! Her, her husband and 4 year old daughter. I'm so excited, they found out from my mom we were going and just decided to crash our party and we are so happy since they live in KS and we live in NY we never get to see each other.!:cheer2:

Last night my sister booked through her favorite travel agent...ME...:thumbsup2 So there will be a total of 10 of us cruising together...
She was having a tough time deciding to go or not. As I said, last year we were supposed to go with dad, but he got sick and ultimately passed away in September, and we have all been having such a tough time with his loss, but I finally convinced her the same reasons to do this together now, still exist. Time together away from everything. Life is so unpredictable, gotta take advantage of every day for everything that day has to offer!

Is go to the straw market in Nassau. I know I can't believe it either :confused3 since we've been there 2x already. We were going to stay on the ship this time and just swim with the girls but I think we might get off and do just this. I shop in Chinatown in NYC so I don't mind the hagglers etc... I'm use to it BUT has anyone done it? My concern is how to get there is it in walking distance of the port? I know it's a tight squeeze but will a stroller fit through the market? I know Maxine would love to get a beautiful doll or just a unique piece to bring back with her. I'm thinking if Dan doesn't want to go we Max and I and maybe my aunt might get off for an hour and go. Any info if you've been is appreciated.

You no longer need a passport to Cruise. Dan and I both have them but now I have to think about if I'm going to get them for the girls or not. All you need is the original B-certificate with the raised seal again like you used to. HOWEVER, this is only for sailing not for flying so if for some freak reason we had to fly home from the Bahamas we'd be SOL. What would you do?

Any info if you've been is appreciated.
My only experience with it was about 5 minutes. We walked in the front, and out the back, never to return again. I have done Tijuana (haggle capital of the world), but never anything like this. Not my cup of tea, but then there were allot of people there, so I suppose there is some interest.
It is walking distance. It's almost right across the street from the port.

Hi everyone! I agree, I wouldn't chance it. We debated the same thing. With our luck, something would happen and we'd be stuck. We took the kids (7 and 5) to get their passport pictures over the weekend (they were pretty funny - my son is missing his two front teeth and my dauther thought it was time to model). We're off to the post office on Thursday. They're so excited to get their own passports!

Hi Guys
I'm going have to bow out of the cruise thread as we've moved our cruise to August 2010. I got a 40% pin offer from Disney and that, combined with having to use our BLT developer points at Saratoga means that I couldn't fit it all in. We're now staying at SSR when we should have been on the cruise and spending our last 5 nights at the Grand Floridian.
Sorry I won't get to meet you all and to Mandy - I'm sorry I won't get to share one or two of these with you
1/2 oz white rum
1/2 oz Meyers rum
1/2 oz creme de banana
1/2 oz malibu rum
2 oz orange juice
2 oz pineapple juice

Had some cool news last week...
My DS will be graduating from high school this year, and we have been looking at colleges for the past two years, and he had one in particular that he wanted very badly. Luckily for us, they offer an instant decision. We went up last weekend, brought the application on Monday 8:30, they brought him to sit in on a class, DW and I went to breakfast on the college, they interviewed DS at 10:30, 10:45, they brought us in and congratulated him on being accepted to the class of 2013 in the Meteorology program! So next year he will begin his journey at Lyndon State College in Lyndon Vt. We are so excited for him to get not ony his first , but really only choice! Now we have lots of celebrating to do on this cruise!!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Our little thread has been quiet for a while!! I have been working on stuff for the cruise: signs/magnet, t-shirts and we are going for passports this weekend. I also have been feverishly reading trip reports.

Anyone interested in having some tshirts done? I did these last year for the cruise I never took (http://rosebudsduds.com/Cruise%20Apparel.html), and I can do something similar for us. We need a catchy name. We could use the title I did for the thread "Cruise-O-Maniacs" or ???

Coach Rick, I am so glad that you got your Palo Brunch and other reservations. We are hoping to get Palos for brunch too when we can book in a couple of weeks.
Also, I noticed on your first posting that you were putting down room numbers and dinner times. We are late dining and have connecting rooms 2075 and 2077.

We ordered 2 online last year for our last Dec. cruise and they turned out grreat! They were about $30 each and it was much easier than trying to do one myself.:)

Been going back and forth on renting a car or doing a limo... We are at Treehouse Villas prior so you almost HAVE to have a car there which would mean I would need to return it the night before the cruise. The cost for picking up the car at the airport and returning at the port is an additonal $60, which is still far below doing a limo or bus... God planning is so much fun, but SOOOO TAXING ....:lmao:

I am pretty tired this morning since I ended up not getting to bed until after midnight and then having to get up early to get the kids ready for school. Oh well...it was worth it!:goodvibes I definitely do not want to miss Palo's brunch!

Hi everyone!!! Just checking in! Can I say...."BOY DO I NEED THIS VACATION!!!!!"
I cannot wait to get away and meet all of you! Also excited for our family's very first cruise!!
We booked the REAS package, so my booking window opened earlier than the 75 day mark (I think that in itself made the package worth it, since we are 1st time cruisers and I was stressing out). I booked PALO dinner and Blue Island Dolphin Encounter for all of us in Nassau, plus parasailing for DH at CC.
I am working on a sheet with all the FE info for those participating. If you haven't told me already, please PM me with your room/name info if you'd like to participate!!

Hi Maggie
We will be giving a gift to everyone on the list just the once during our Cruise, and it'll be before Pirate Night as the boys gifts are Pirate based pirate:
Have fun shopping :)

Once during the cruise sounds good to us, too.
Maggie-don't feel bad, I've just started gathering stuff myself! Mandy inspired me to start shopping.
As we were getting some things tonight, my 10 year old asks, "So, what is a FE?" I explain it to him and so he says, "Cool!! That means we will get stuff also??!!" He was so happy!

Hi,
We haven't picked up our FE gifts yet either, but I hope to get started on them soon. Once during the cruise sounds good to us too. We are heading out in our camper to Disneyland tomorrow, as well as camping in Utah, so I hope to maybe pick up a few things for the FE gifts while we are at DL. My oldest just "graduated" from 5th grade today, which is hard to believe. It feels like just the other day that she was in Kindergarten :)
Have a great weekend everyone!

Hey everyone. Don't know if this affects many of you, but when you purchased your cruise, if you were charged a fuel surcharge, it was going to be credited to your stateroom as an on-board credit, but West Texas Intermediate oil hit $70 yesterday, and $71 today. If it doesn't get below $70 by the close of market next Wednesday, June 17, that credit goes in the fuel tank! :sad2:
They are pirates I tell ya.. pirate: Plundering my cool drink loot pirate:pirate:
Anywho, planning moves on. Heard from my taxi friend on Nassau. He'll be waiting for us on the dock. Anyone else looking for a nice tour of the island by an islander, let me know. My guides wife also owns a taxi and can take you where the real islanders go.

Hi!
We just got back yesterday from a 12 day trip out West to California and Utah. We spent 3 days at Disneyland and we all had a lot of fun!
We are getting so excited for this cruise. 2 months from today, we will be on our way to Fort Wilderness before the cruise. I have a few things for the fish extender game, but have more shopping to do. It's fun to buy these little gifts for the cruise. :)
I hope everyone is doing well and has a good weekend too.

Hey Vicki, I've been to two meets onboard, both were at 3pm, one was at the Goofy pool and one was at the Promenade Lounge ~ both were great, as it gave us enough time to have a quick cocktail and introduce ourselves before heading to the lifeboat drill at 4pm ~ anytime will be good for me ::yes::

Hi Mandy,
3 pm sounds like it would be a great time to meet! Plenty of time before the drill and ship sails off. Both places would be fine with me too. Do you or anyone else have a preference. I know one time we tried having a meet at the sailaway party and it just didn't work out very well since it was so crowded.
Hopefully the weather will be good and we won't have to worry about hurricanes or tropical storms. We were in DW last Aug. and were there in the middle of Tropical Storm Faye---the only nice thing was that the parks weren't too crowded.

I think the Promenade lounge is the better choice. Of course I am in hopes of weather being perfect, but if it's not, then inside would be better.
For us the cruise that never happened last August I had made available t-shirts for my cruise-mates. I can do the same if there is interest here. Here is a link to what I did for last year: http://rosebudsduds.com/Cruise%20Apparel.html
