I'm looking for a cheap way to get from Anaheim to Dana Point Harbor on a Sunday in Oct. I had planned on using OCTA but the only whale watching tour of the day ends too late to use OCTA to get back to Anaheim. I checked with Mickey's Space Ship Shuttle & got a quote of $220 (& then a rude email when I told them no thanks) & a cab quote of $104 each way. Other than renting a car, is there any cheaper way to do this???? Also planning a trip to Hollywood using public transportation. I've been to LA once before and was able to get most everywhere I wanted to go on the OCTA buses. I had a bit of trouble linking up with LA Metro on that trip & never actually made it to Hollywood.
ANY ADVICE PLEASE?????

For Dana Point, you might want to look into the possibility of taking Amtrak or MetroLink from Anaheim to San Juan Capistrano, then a cab from there. Not sure what the cab would cost, but the train should be pretty cheap (It's only $45 round trip all the way to San Diego). SJC to Dana Point is a pretty short drive. Trains run fairly late, so you should be able to work it with the whale watching.

thanks so much for your help. i hadn't thought of amtrak. it's still a bit more than i had hoped to spend on transportation but its much cheaper than
$200+ round trip. it's going to be about $40 total for both of us and its a shorter trip as well. :goodvibes :goodvibes

Renting a car is pretty cheap and would probably be the way to go, on a Sunday that's not a bad drive at all. Avis is $35 and opens at 8am on Sundays. They close at 4pm, but you can return the car the following morning. I think they may even pick up and drop off at hotels.
For Hollywood, take Amtrak up to Union Station and then Red Line Metro Subway up to hollywood and Highland, it's a snap. From your anaheim hotel you might need a short cab ride to the Amtrak station, though.
