agreed, that's really good. I reckon that all you would need to do is use more pictures and let it use duplicates and it would look great, because it works well when small now, but seems blockier when up close, which smaller images would fix.

Is that maybe because it can't find a suitably coloured picture? I tried it with a program on my mac last night and I had loads of gaps.

I'm trying the AndreaMosaic now though, so hopefully that might be better.

New picture added (me and DB on Autopia).

I'm quite pleased with how this one turned out, although it still suffers a bit if you zoom in.

I think it would have worked out better if I had more red pictures for the car, but oh well, it worked out ok anyway.

'twas me (I think) - I used Adobe Photoshop Elements, after you've clicked the text tool and have placed your writing, go to the top bar and there should be a T .... with an arc underneath it (it's next to the colour block) - click on that and a box should pop up untitled 'Warp Text', in the drop down menu (which by default says none) you will be able to choose how to display your text, have a play around with it - it's fun!

Apparantly, the instructions say that you need to reduce the minimum distance between duplicated tiles setting because it can't find a suitable image (hence the black gaps). As 0 means no duplicates, then I would try using a setting of 1 and see what you get.

If you've already got it set to 1, then yes, it's probably your cousin's photos not having enough to choose from :goodvibes

I've got 1 for the mac which allows me to use a google images search as my image source. Maybe I'll try that out again at some point.

Hi there!

No, my name's not Rob, Emma's just confused (yes, it's Rob :goodvibes )

Sounds a good plan to me. I struggled a bit with the Autopia as I don't have many red pictures to play with. I'm trying to make one of the Disneyland hotel at the moment, but I'm not sure how many pink pictures I have either, so it might not come out well.

I can see how it's annoying; those last ones you did were amazing (especially the Scar one). I guess you got lucky with the colours of the photos an d/ or the settings you had.

There's a phrase for that sort of thing that I have - They're called "Microsoft Minutes" due to how much the guess changes and innacurate it ends up being.

I don't think the time has anything to do with the number of pictures in your library, because mine only take about 1/2 hour or so, even with 1050 pictures in the library (although the guess always says 2 minutes remaining - never changes).

Am I? I guess I've got a reasonable library of pictures to use then, or I've figured out the right settings or something. At the moment though, they don't look too good if you zoom in, so won't print too well. Maybe I'll try some higher settings to see what I can do with the next one. I'm lucky that our computer is fairly new, so produces them quite quickly.

I thought you said you didn't think it was going to come out well?! That's really good. You can clearly tell it's a photo mosaic, but at the same time you can also clearly see what it's a picture of.

I've got one more uploaded which is of the Mickey Mouse flowers in front of the exit. Not quite as good as the Pink Palace one I did, but I'm fairly happy with it anyway.

That's pretty cool software then, plus your drawing is really good too. That's way better than I could ever draw.

I can cope with computer art - that's just changing some settings and clicking buttons, so I understand that from a maths point of view rather than an art one :lmao:

I certainly couldn't draw anything and neither could I put together my own photo mosaic.

I did read about one last night that Disney did for 50 years of Disneyland. It was a photomosaic of Steamboat Willy which was made up of pictures of CM. However, each of those pictures of CMs was actually a photomosaic made up of pictures taken by guests.

Hey guys I'm back again!

Wow loads of great stuff to look at!! They are absolutely brilliant!!...I see a colour selected photo popped up there..wow I went through a phase of colour selecting every photo I had, in fact my downstairs bathroom is covered it the kids doing walks, beaches etc and I framed them up in black frames (not the 80s style ones;) ) and it looks really cool IMO!!:thumbsup2 In fact the frames were again from poundstrechers they do different size black frames with a cream mount from £1.50 to £3 .... its gorgeous with a group of photos on one wall in black n white with a wee bit of colour selecting if need be!

I also loved the pooh bear collection drawing, now thats talent!:thumbsup2

Just to keep you up to date with my mosiacs I have scrapped the mickey one I did for fiona which I uploaded a couple of pages back or so, I re did it and it looks better now, I have also done her a 'cars' one for the boys bedroom, she really loves that one and she's asked me to try a princess one for her lass!..

so alls good here in sunny Scotland!!:thumbsup2

What, sun in Scotland?! Step-dad is working up in Prestwick Monday - Friday and we usually get told it's rained :)

The cars mosaic sounds cool. I think I might have a go at printing one and see how it comes out at some point. Just an A4 size one mind you.

A4 is apparently 8.27 by 11.69 inches, so 8x10 isn't far off.

Virtual Memory low

In a nutshell, your computer creates little notes that it needs to remember and stores them inside it's memory. When the computer does lots of thinking, it's memory becomes rather full and it has to move some of its notes into a second place, called virtual memory.

When the computer does LOTS of thinking (like when you build a mosaic), even the virtual memory starts to get full, which shows you that message.

There's a setting you can change if needed, or you could restart the computer which can also help because it empties both the real memory and the virtual memory.

Artwork

I had a look at the one I produced using only unique images from Flickr and it didn't look very good at all, so I deleted it. I've just started another one (also from Flickr) which does allow duplicate pictures, which seems to look much better (I can watch the mosaic being built on the mac which is quite cool, although I have no idea how long it may take which is not cool).

:offtopic: As the weather's clear where I am tonight, I might take my telescope and camera out and have a play in a minute, so I'll post the picture here if anybody's interested?

I'm into astrophotography, which is slightly different and more frustrating because I can't do a thing without a clear night :goodvibes

Unfortunately, Jupiter's just disappeared behind a street light so that's a no go, but the moons still around and full, so i might be able to grab a picture or two of that.

It would appear that the software I use on the mac doesn't produce very high quality mosaics, so I guess the AndreaMosaic or whatever it's called is much better and works better with less pictures (the mac version couldn't redraw the castle using about 4000 pictures!)

Not a problem, as I've mentioned on here before, I work with computers almost 24x7, so I know a reasonable amount about them and what those daft error messages mean.

I'll add my new (small) astrophotography gallery to my sig in a minute. It won't be growing very quickly because it's basically the same stuff around every night for weeks / months at a time, so the targets don't change very often. I can try to improve what I have though, which shouldn't be too hard with some objects! I'm also at the mercy of the weather and especially the clouds, so I can't get outside very often.

Unfortunately, it's really hard to take good quality pictures of anything but the moon, although they are recognisable if you know what you're looking at. The blurry picture I've taken is Jupiter after it came out from behind the street light. The other is fairly obvious - it's the moon :goodvibes Hopefully I'll have another go on Saturday at the moon to see if I can get a true full moon picture.
