I had to share this with you...its even disney related LOL I'm totally freaking out. A little background, this morning the Schwan man came by and brought my DS5 (ASD) his beloved chicken nuggets. The guy is great, he even lets Ben come out to the truck and get them (he loves big trucks).
So this afternoon he was watching cartoons and my girls were in their rooms. I went out to clean the pool. When I came back in he was still watching Tv but I noticed a big box by the front door (our DisneyShopping order!!) Well I asked the girls if they got it, and they both said NO!! My oldest said she heard DS say "mom look at the big box!" and she heard a mans voice, but she thought I was around so she didn't come out. So, my son got the door all by himself! Thank goodness he didn't follow the guy out the door, or try to go to his truck!! :worship:
I'm going to be having nightmares about this one!! :scared1:

My UPS guy actually leaves Dilly's meds on the diuning room table.
One time when my oldest was 3 or 4, way b4 I became super mom,
he actually had a 10 minute conversation with the meter reader while I was in bed!

Oh my goodness. Thank goodness he didn't go out the door. This is why we leave the door chime on all of the time (the alarm system chime) so we know if the door opens because I am scared to death of my oldest getting out of the door (youngest is still too short).

Yikes! Glad it worked out OK!:)
When my boys were younger, we had to put a sliding lock up high on the inside of the front door. When we were home, we would be able to latch the door from inside and the boys couldn't reach it. My son (w/Asperger's) loves garbage trucks and would have the impulse to run outside when he heard the truck coming. We caught him trying to open the door one time and that's what prompted us to install the extra lock. We don't have to use it anymore. He's 13 now and garbage trucks are "so not cool" (his own words!).

I know it was scary, but your son showed he understands what to do. That's really pretty cool (I know, there are easier ways to find this out!!:goodvibes )

Good point! It just goes to show you the more we teach our kids the more we move on to the next hurdle! LOL It is good that he actually was able to answer the door and get the package, shut the door, and go back to watching TV without anything bad happening....I just wish I could have been there to see it! :)

Been there done that- so you're not alone! We use a security chain at the top of the door long with the alarm chime now:rolleyes1 I'm sure it's not b/c the neighbor brought him back-twice...

Sorry, i had to laugh at this thread! I have so been there!
We had a regular door with a regular handle on it when DS was 3, and I begged my ex to put another lock on the top of the door so he couldn't get out. I was terrified of him opening the door and running into the street. Well, it happened one day. I was on the phone with my mother when I heard the front door slam. I jumped and ran to the door, just in time to see A) John running into the street, B) a pickup truck coming in fast about 10 feet from John, and C) my neighbor across the street swoosh in and grab John out of the trucks way. Thank god my neighbor was getting her mail when this happened! John could have been killed! :scared1:
Long story short, the extra lock was installed that day - and so were the top locks on the other two doors of the house. Chalk that up to one more reason my ex is my ex, KWIM?
To the OP - I feel for you! I hope your son continues to NOT go outside to see the truck!
