Learned about DVC at a park.

Called guide and got information mailed to us.

Spoke to guide on the phone and got all questions answered.

Drove over to OKW on a Sunday afternoon and signed the papers.

So - bought in person, but could have just as easily done it over the phone.

Both add-ons were bought over the phone.

Didn't find this board until 1 year later (5/98) :(

Bought OKW over the phone, sight unseen. Bought BCV over the phone, but I must admit we peeked in the windows of the models when we were down last Christmas and saw the outside in our travels around WDW--so I guess that is not really sight unseen.

Bought 250 points at VWL sight unseen, but had been "thinking" about it for 2 years. Took our first (and what I seriously thought would be our **ONLY** trip to WDW - HA!HA!) in '97, and after being at the Poly for 4 days, we moved to the Delta Orlando (yeck! this was all arranged by a travel agent before I found the DIS a few months later and realized I could do it for about HALF the money if I booked it myself!!!!!) so we could go to Universal/SeaWorld. Well, about 2 hours into the Delta Orlando and all 4 of us were miserable and wanting to go back to the Poly. The next year '98, we had a great trip to WL for 9 days. In '99 we did a 10-day at the ASMo, and missed the "deluxe" feel. I remember being approached SEVERAL times during the '99 trip by a DVC rep at various kiosks around WDW....they seemed very aggressive, but I was intrigued enough when one rep mentioned that all the money I was spending on this trip could be the "deposit" money for DVC Membership. I thought, RATS! Why didn't they say this LAST year when I was at WL for 9 days! I wouldn't even "sit down" w/her, but I agreed to be sent lit & a video. I threw the lit out and never watched the video, convinced that these boards were helping get to the "world" for rock bottom pricing anyway. We skipped '00 to go to Las Vegas/Grand Canyon, but when we went in May '01, I realized I truly wanted to come back every year, and approached a DVC kiosk at FW. The kid was a really bad salesperson, so that turned me off again. Because of my "commando-style" touring, I never wanted to invest the time for the real DVC tour on property, and as soon as I got home, I started researching this board (I was always on the DIS - I just never looked at this board) and got a lot of questions answered, and went and found that dust-covered video and watched it. I called the name (Julie Hughes) that was still taped to the video (she had called me I think only twice over the 2-year period since she sent the video/lit) and spent about 3 weeks of nearly daily conversations/questions/ answers/ etc and wished I had taken the tour while at WDW. The point increase I think is what finally "pushed" me, and I started out only wanting the "minimum" points (150) !!! another "HA!" I wish I bought 300 now, but oh well........it was a financial stretch for me at 250. I was extremely pleased that I could buy at VWL as WL was already my favorite resort anyway. Being from New England, the Boardwalk just wouldn't seem like I was "away on vacation" (which come to think of it, may have been why I lost interest back in '99.....I didn't like the Boardwalk - it looks just like seaside resorts in New England) We stayed at AKL in '01 and DH and I met a lovely retired couple (from FL) in the jacuzzi one night that simply RAVED about OKW and DVC for about an HOUR. I thought to myself, "Geez......if they LIVE in FL and still bought DVC then it MUST be a good deal!" and then they mentioned the VWL and how nice it was, so I was really excited then, but we were leaving the next day. Julie was just awesome, though, and totally patient with me every step of the way. I have no regrets, just wish I could afford more! I stayed 2 days in a studio in December so I've never even seen the 1BR, but I'll be in a 1BR for 9 days starting 4/28!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We bought while at Disney in November 2000 on the first day that VWL went on sale. However, we had stayed at OKW way back when they first opened and I wanted to buy in then, but my DH said no. However, after years of hearing me talk about it, I finally convinced him that November. Thank God. (Now we have 1 child and we go down about twice a year!)

We purchased our first contract (BWV) on a visit to HHI. We planned the visit to make our purchase at BWV in addition to taking a nice vacation with the incentive they offered. We got 3 nights in a 2 bedroom with a 4th night free for $99/night. Now we look forward to visiting HHI regularly in the fall as I fell in love with the Disney resort there :)

Our 2 add ons (BWV and VWL) we have done over the phone :)

We bought today at BCV and as we are living in Munich, Germany - originally from UK with a spell in Boston, MA in the 80īs - my DH had to fly over to complete in person. Have been avidly following this board since our visit in Aug last year when we did a tour but decided WLV wasnīt for us. As we, like New-Yorkers, canīt officially get information this source has been invaluable. The trip had been planned for over a month now and every day Iīve been dreading reading that the incentive was to be discontinued. We just made it and I had to share my excitement. Now I can start planning our first trip home. Thanks from a new member, I donīt think we could have done this without you.

We bought 270 pts at BWV over the phone sight unseen in '98 after staying at OKW. Celeste Chafaut was our guide. I told her it was the easiest sale she ever made.

We just bought a 232 pt re-sale at OKW.;)

We bought HH sight unseen---will be making our first trip in June. Then we turned around and bought an OKW resale sight unseen.
Will be continuing on to OKW after visiting HH. Haven't been to either HH or WDW in a dozen years.

We bought into BWV over the phone. We had walked along the Boardwalk, but my husband refused to walk into the DVC room samples. To this day, I still don't know how I talked him into buying into it four months later!!! I guess I won't question the "magic":)

Well we bought at OKW over the phone. But we had taken the tour about 2 weeks before that. So it wasn't sight unseen. It's funny too, because we were ready to buy but our guide talked us into going home and thinking it over.

We bought at OKW after the "tour". My parents had been there the year before. They had wanted to rent at the Village units because my mother had to be able to eat in the room. They were all rented out, but OKW was "new" and Disney reservations said they were renting one bedrooms w/ kitchen there. To make the story short, as soon as my parents returned they started bombarding us with stories of what a nice place OKW was (actually then it was just the Vacation Club).
We had always stayed at the Poly concierge, but to humor my parents we went on the "tour" the very last day of our next trip. We were both sick and after the first 1/2 hour we were ready to just leave. But then we got to see the units themselves. We were hooked!! We signed all the papers that day! Then we drove home--quite sick, but very happy!!!

Oh -how "sick" were we that day?? So sick that they didn't even bother to take our picture at the end of the tour, after you made the purchase!! They told us to come back some other time...

Was talked into the tour by my best friend. We were picked up at Epcot and driven to "Conch Flats". After a short visit with a very personable DVC rep., we were asked to watch a short video. We were seated in a very quiet library area, the screen rose up, the lights went down, the ceiling turned into a star studded sky and Tinker bell flew over and sprinkled us with golden pixie dust. Knew I was a goner right then. Fell in love with the everything on the tour and purchased that day. We had so much fun and took so long gabbing that in addition to our ice cream treat, we were given certificates to dinner anywhere on property. They even made our reservations.

Four add-ons and counting.:) :) :) :)

Shoot, we bought over the phone but this sounds like something I'd like the kids to see anyway. I might have to book a tour!:)

I agree, you should have had a Both choice. I voted "At Disney" because our original purchase was done while at WDW. Our add on purchase was made over the phone.

We stayed in 96 at OKW, my sister was a DVC member. We bought 3 years later over the phone (OKW). Then we bought this Jan at VB, also over the phone. Now 4 in our family are DVC members. And those GV's at OKW,HH, and Beach Cottages at VB are really nice when our family's combine our points together. I am sure the BWV's are just as nice;) ............right Rich???:D

Unfortunately I think this experience has gone the way of other Disney Magic. Tour has been upgraded to sleek and technical.

We bought on our '95 trip when we stayed at the Caribbean. We saw the kiosk in Epcot and asked about it. They offered to chauffeur us from our hotel room over to Old Key West (or whatever it was called back then!) and they showed us all the different sized rooms and dh and I were hooked! We signed right then and there!

We took the tour during our "first and maybe only" (I agree, HA HA ) trip in June 2000. Toured BWV and bought 160 points on the phone before July was out. Before our first trip "home" in June 2001, we bought 100 VWL before the price hike.
I still like Poly concierge, though. We spent our first trip there, we took a quickie trip in Dec. and stayed there--I am fitting 2 nights there in between BWV and VWL in July (Friday and Saturday of course!) But after all of DHs waffling, you should have seen his eyes light up when we walked into a 1BR at BWV--can't wait until this year when our BWV/VWL stays are 2BR!!
I'd like to do a teeny, weeny addon at VWL or BCV but the odds are so, so slim...I haven't even brought it up.
