Our Old English Sheepdog who is almost 11 years old was named by our teenage boys (at the time we got him) and his name is MA$E. Named after the rapper turned preacher/minister. Kinda fun when we go to the vets and they look at the dollar sign.

We used to have a long-haired Daschund. He was the coolest dog I've ever known.

His name was Maxx but everyone called him Shmoo. Long story.

My lab was named Catfish, after Lewis Grizzard's dog. If you knew southern politics and humor, you knew him. He had a column with Atlanta Journal and it was syndicated nationally. I actually saw him in concert and never have laughed so hard in my life. Catfish was the best dog I could have ever had. So, my next lab will be named Cornbread, after his last dog. (I have to wait until my 4 year old can understand that it is not ok that nana's cat hisses at him and he thinks it is fun)

Right now we have the best dog ever! She's a Westie and her name is Teagan (which is Celtic for pretty). Growing up, we had a Yorkie/daschund mix named Gilly. She was mean as all heck to everybody but me. She would sit and guard me and if anyone came close she would go ballistic on them. If I went into a room and shut the door, Gilly would sit outside and try to bite the ankles of anyone who walked by!:lmao: She lived to be like 20 or something. She was too mean to die.

My ol' girl is 15 and has a very common dog name...Patches. Our other dog has a crazy name because she is an akc dog from a breeder...although her call name is basic. Pirouette Exotic Blue Ginger (Ginger).

We have had 4 dogs in our nearly 20 years of marriage. :goodvibes With the exception of the Rott being an adult when we got him, the rest we all small puppies when we were blessed with them.

The two dogs we have had that have passed were our Rott... he came pre-named, he was named Duke! He was a "manly dog" (but a big baby with us) and Duke fit him! Our Sharpei was named Wrinkles, which fit totally (there was no thought process in naming her... DS commented that she was so cute and wrinkley and DH said "Wrinkles?" and we all knew that was perfect!

The two dogs we have now were both named by our son. Riddler was named by our DS when he was about 5 years old and really into Batman! Riddler is a fiesty, white, German Shepherd mix. Our DS also named our (now two year old) Golden Retriever. He is a spunky, sweet dog named Hendrix Callaway... Hendrix as our son plays guitar, and Callaway as our son loves to golf!

The funny thing is, that we tend to knickname the dogs (just as we do people/each other). Duke stayed Duke, but Wrinkles somehow turned to "Wrinks" and from there to "Bink". Riddler is often "Rid" or "Riddlemeister". Hendrix is often "Red-Head", "Hendricko", or "Puppy Boy". :rotfl:

Back in 1974 our :hippie: neighbors place got foreclosed upon. When they moved they left 3 cats. Their names were 1. Monkberry Moonlight Delight 2. Ziggy Stardust 3. Trucker. We adopted 1 & 3 but couldn't get Ziggy to stay around much. They were between 1 & 3 years old when we got them and they lived with us for 21 years. We had them both put to sleep on the same day, He was having seizures and she was so arthritic she could not get around much.

Our first dog after we were married was a german shepherd named "Klaus" (pronounced like "house" with a "K", not as in Santa), our current dog is "Odie" (but answers to Fat Bast***), and our horses' show name is "DreamCatcher" but his barn name is "Dreamer". :)

When Al & I were little we had a dashcund whose registered name was:
Dressels Marmaduke VonMarmon. We called him "Duke". He hated my dad & any other adult male. He loved my mom & us kids. The dog was utterly destructive & and tore up everything and anything he could get his snout on - including a very expensive panama hat of dad's. Even the vet who bred & raised dashcunds said Duke was the meanest dashchund he ever came across. Even though we called him "Duke", dad called him "dead" after about 2 years (if even that).

The first cat DH & I had was named "Shi##y Kitty" until his first trip to the vet when he became "Kitty Kat". I don't know where we came up with his first moniker because Kitty Kat was pure white and a very good boy. He was 20 when we finally had to have him put to sleep. Other pets I've had include:

Dally, Clarence, Prince, Cleo, Penelope, Sugar Babe (all these were dogs I grew up with). Since married - all cats: Kitty Kat, Cricket, Dusty, Sally, Tabihta, Nicholas & Cassie. We're down to the last two - Nicky (13) Cassie (12). After the last two are gone, I think I will be pet free. I've only had about 6 months in my entire life that were pet free.

Growing up I had a dog (mutt) named Howard. Awesome dog!

Since adult, DH and I have had:
dog: Sam (lab/chow mix) - died 2 yrs ago at age 15 1/2  My "baby"
dog: Bandit (Rottweiler) - died 1996 at age 4 (cancer)
dog: Copper (Rottweiler) - will be 12 next month
dog: Maggie (Rottweiler) - 2 1/2 (we think - rescued her from a shelter)
cat: Lilo (gray tabby) - will be 3 next month - found her in the woods. She was about 2 weeks old. DH calls her the "kidiot" :rotfl:

I haven't thought about Clarence in years! That was one goofy dog.

Duke was really mean. I remember taking him to a market once and he crapped all over the place. I got out of there really fast. Fezers Deb! :lmao:

My wife was raised on a farm and they always had a dog - always named Scamp. When one Scamp got into trouble - chased the cows or got into the chickens - that Scamp would disappear and another Scamp would take it's place. as far as I know, Scamp was a genderless dog - male or female - whatever was available.

Later on they they got a dog that stayed around for longer - most of my kids grew up with her - Taffy. She had 3 legs (tractor accident), frost bitten nose, mangy coat - half an ear - and the kids could do anything to her and she took it. Great dog.

Makes me wonder where all those other scamps disappeared too :rolleyes1

Some of you have some really creative pet names. Ours our pretty boring...

1- Finnegan= soft coated wheaten terrier
2- Mitzi= miniature schnauzer
3- Taffy= cat named by the kids

Yeah - remember poor Clarence got distemper from the dog next door. That was sad. Remember how he also chased all of poor Grandpa Weiner's dairy cows into the creek - where they would get stuck and had to be pulled out with the tractor?? :lmao: :rotfl2:

IIRC - Dad tied Duke to some sort of pipe outside of Fezer's Market & he pulled it off the side of the building and dragged it all the way home - down Payne Ave & Wheatfield St!!! I also seem to remember Duke being locked in mom & dad's bedroom one evening when they went out - and no babysitter would come to the house if Duke was loose. I recall when the bedroom door was opened - it looked like a blizzard because Duke chewed the crap outta the down feather pillows!!!

My wife and I had a golden retetriver for 13 1/2 years. We had to put him down 10/12/06 because of bone cancer. He was the best dog in the world. He was our kid since we don't have any human kids. His name was Drag. We named him that because we were really big into drag racing in 1993 when he born. We now have a retired racing greyhound. His racing name is Dandy Dundee. We just call him Dundee. They are both in my sig. Drag is also in my avatar.

My pets as a kid:
Red- Mutt....Pete calls him St. Red, cause when my parents talk about him it was like he could do no wrong, but he bit a few people, chewed everything, etc.
Jolene, Sassy, and George- our poodles.
Freeway-another poodle my dad found on the NJ Turnpike
Morris- my orange cat, poor thing got run over by a car in front of my house

Our Former Pets:
Newton- Dobie
Missy- English Springer Spaniel -- the best dog ever!
Sable and Mittens- ferrets

Our current Pets:
Pooh Bear (named by DD) our crazy Airedale Terrier
Munson and Tebow our 1 year old Ragdoll cats
Molly and Babydoll- our Maine Coon cats
Tinkerbell- our calico kitten
that's it, no more pets!!!!!

The worse thing to happen is that they put a Petsmart near our house that has a cat adoption inside. My daughter wants to save them all and keeps talking me into adopting. She loves to go there and visit them. They said when she is 12 she can volunteer after school. I call her St. Francis.:cutie:

We currently have 4 cats...
Babycat's a male
Orange is our old female(she watches over us and sleeps with who ever may br sick, or injured or just in a crappy mood and needs a friend.
Arista is a female who is the momma to Babycat, but she hates him
and our newest is Grey....4month old grey kitten.

My favorite cat, and the ONLY cat we've ever gotten on purpose was a Russian Blue Persian with one eye (she had 2 when we got her). Her name was Sweet Madam Blue(song from Styx) and was the mother of Arista....she was the perfect cat.....wanted NOTHING to do with anyone, needed no one, liked nobody. But occassionally, she would come to me and sit by me...as if she knew we shared the same attitude sometimes.
She was just recently hit by a car that was coming down the street as she was crossing....the car was on her blindside. Stupid cat.

Our one cat Babydoll was actually my moms, but she didn't get along with my mom's cat. So Pete suggested we take her. (Remember, he hates cats, just as much as Disney). Well the two of them bonded immediately. We've had her for months, and she still hides from the others and spits at them. I said the reason why Pete and Babydoll both get along is they both hate cats! She always comes up to Pete and sleeps on his nightstand. I call her his girlfriend.

I'd have to agree on that. The most cats we had at one time were 4. We always said the reason we had 4 is because we didn't want 5!:rotfl:

Our first 5 cats were Heinz 57. Our current fur-babies are Blue Burmese. I know I've bored you with their picture before....but I think they are beautiful!!

Thanks! I'm just a little biased about my babies!!

Too bad there's not a pig farm near you. If he were able to see a bunch of pigs in a sty... that would squelch his desire! They are not the cute little guys you see racing at the Strawberry Festival. Pigs can be very mean and very dangerous, too. I'm referring to domestic pigs. I don't know anything about the Pot-Bellied pigs.

Man, those were the dayz. At least what I can remember bout them.

When I was bout 20, one day this medium size short haired brown and white dog with kinda black hair around one eye wandered up to my door and decided that he was home, so I let him stay. I called him Bandit because he was blind in the one eye,,,and he was a thief. Any time neighbors had items turn up missing from their yard or garage they would just sort thru all the stuff in my yard and take back what was theirs.
I was sitt'n on the front porch and runn'n toward the house was Bandit carring what was a 6-pack Miller cans,,there were 4 cans still in the plastic ring.:cool1:

One day, just like he walked up and stayed,,he walked away and I never saw him again.

Thanks for posting.

Our pets are:
Sparky- part Maine Coon Cat. He is a little over 15 now. Reminds me of the cat in those links. He is so meowy. The older he gets the more vocal he is.
Savannah- yellow lab. She will be 8 in October
Butch- Terrier Mix. He is 9.
We lost our kitty Tiger this past March. He was almost 13.
They are our kids.

Growing up we had loads of animals. Mostly kitties. I have never been without one.

Denise can tell you bout the cats.

Not really odd but:

My dog a cocker spaniel when growing up was Bullets (~1956 to 1970)- Roy Rogers

Our first dog with DW was a Peek-a-poo and was named Lady (1971 to 1984) - just seemed appropriate.

Our next two dogs (sisters) were Shih-Tzu named Princess and Wicket (1985 to 1999/2000) - Star wars

Our current two dogs (sisters again) are Yorkies named Annie and Tiffany (2002-) - Annie is the ornery one and Tiffany is the sweet one and is a jewel.

All have been females.

Yes he was!

I admit I am not the biggest sports fanatic, but I do remember when he died. My 72 year old mother, on the other hand, is a die hard Yankees fan. She can tell you everybody's stats and whatnot. It's hysterical! She and my dad are going to the game at Yankees Stadium this Saturday for one last time... She is so sad about the stadium.

And, all of your fur-babies are adorable! This cat that I have is my FIRST cat in my entire life! I never knew I liked cats until she wandered up to us!

I had a 3 legged dog I got when 2 friends divorced. His name was pork chop. He was VERY protective of my daughter (3 at the tome) We would go swimming and porkchop would swim circles around us so no one would get close to her. She got hit by a car one day when we were getting groceries out of the car and she got excited and stepped out in front of a car...we had to put her down. Beau was my BF growing up...a beautiful boxer I thought was soooo handsome and I could tell him anything!! He died at 14 of cancer after fathering half of all the new puppies in town.I'm petless now since I'm on the road and never know how long I might be at work each day...I look forward to being at hoem some day so I can have another pet...planning on a lab....

we currently have 2 dogs, a retired greyhound named Cody and a Jack Russell(white with brown spots) named Chewbacca(chewy). He is a fiestly little thing. My inlaws live behind us and have his brother who is white and black named PeeWee. My oldest DS named him Vader but MIL said she was not having a dog named Vader. They also have a yellow lab and Kerr mix named Boo.
My youngest Ds(who has CP) loves all the dogs except for Chewy. when ever he walks by or you talk about him, Tyler sticks his tongue out at him. we get a kick out of that. And he just said "gog" this morning when chewy jumped on the couch next to him:banana:
