View Full Version : Public Service Announcement--Seems as if Sigma is increasing its prices.

As you can see from my tortuous post below, it appears that the price of Sigma glass has risen about 20% at B&H, at least on the two lenses that I've been wanting (150 mm 2.8 and 30 mm 1.4) From looking at some of the other sites, it seems that they are following suit as well. Don't mean to be alarmist, but if you are thinking that a new Sigma lens is on your "must purchase list", it may be worth getting it sooner rather than later. Be sure to shop around your fave sites to get the best price.

Hmmm- My Sigma 30 1.4 is on Ebay right now. Maybe this will help sell it. :lmao:

Just out of curiosity...why are you selling the 30 1.4? I have this lens as well and other than Disney I rarely use it and have been debating whether keeping a lens just for Disney is really worth it.

I really liked mine and used it often but figured I would never use it over the D700 / Nikon 50/1.4 combo.

Ohhh....guess I missed that D700 part somewhere along the line! Can't wait to see photos.

Sigma's glass is getting some good reviews.

I remember buying my unknown Tamron 28-75 new for $250 (after a rebate). That was before the reviews placing it's IQ in the range of Canon $1600 glass. Now it sell for $370+.

Talk about an investment. :)

Awesome, I ordered my Sigma 10-20mm for $499 just this weekend and now it's $569. I feel lucky :)

My only worry about this lens was that I would have to have it calibrated by Sigma. Apparently, there have been any number of focus problems with it.

The same is true for any lens. It's important to remember that for every 1 person who runs to the internet to complain, theres 100s who are happily shooting without issues. You don't "have to" have it calibrated. I'm sure a very small number have actual issues. :)

(Also, when we push users on the other forums to provide evidence of the focus issues, we typically find the problem is more user than machine. ;) )

Normally I would agree, but this lens is notorious.

It came, and I LOVE it, but I got a bad copy :( I had read about all the most common problems that people have with the 10-20 so I knew what to look for and sure enough.. my copy is significantly less sharp (I should probably say downright blurry rather than "less sharp") on the left side of the frame.

*sigh* more waiting for an exchange, soooo very frustrating

Hi Code, can you post a sample?

Here you go (http://shup.com/Shup/56853/DSC02318.jpg).. I took several sample shots to determine the problem but this one shows it clearly. Compare the left side to the right.

Don't put Vasoline on the lens. That will correct the issue ;)

Yep that looks like a lens issue. It's always good to see the samples.

Just mailed it back for exchange... it was my favorite lens for less than 24 hours :sad1:
