I plan to visit for two weeks in mid-March. Normally we would just need a basic site, but thought we might bring our pet with us. We have a pop-up so would need to use the kennel during the day.

Price difference is $38 per day more with our pet !!! This includes $23 more each night for the site (no pets on basic sites) + $5 for pet charge + $15 kennel.

So the price difference for the trip would be $450 more to bring our pet. We are undecided about whether or not to bring pet.

Any suggestions on options? Can we just make a basic site reservation (w/ AAA discount) and then if we decide to bring pet, just show up and have them place us in a different loop?

Anybody else with this experience - that of bringing a pet at the last minute?

If you show up wanting a pet site, the possibility of none available exists and the kennel being full. That is spring break time. I wouldn't take that chance. If you bring your pup I would call ahead to the kennel also. http://www.bestfriendspetcare.com/ctr_fortwilderness.cfm

So you need a reservation for day use now? We used the kennel (I know its under new management now) the last time we were there and had no problems with day use ... either at FW or at the Epcot kennel. We have a small dog ... they did say that they got full on weekends for the larger dogs, but that the small dogs was usually not an issue.

We stay in the cabins but always brought our dog- it was a great price to board them at the kennels-

Now it's more expensive- sure not totally out of the world, but we've decided to hire a pet sitter to stay at our house to care for our animals. We have a lot of animals. So it's just going to be easier to leave her home.
We were also going to bring our new puppy.
I did call to check on prices - $18 a night and you can now make ressies!!

Well, my DH and I discussed then and we decided to leave our dog at home. I feel much better about the decision ... that's a lot of money and we do have the option of leaving him at home with DD (college student living at home).

Anyway, I changed my reservation to the basic site and will save the extra $450. Thanks for responses.
