Dear Fellow Adventurers,
As we are all aware of, Disney is planning to close all of Pleasure Island on Sept. 27, 2008. While many would like to see Disney change their minds on the whole concept, there is a huge push to keep the Adventurers Club alive. Personally, I have found that The Adventurers Club has become a home away from home, where guests can become lifetime friends with other guests as well as the characters that roam it's hallowed halls. I'm sure that I am not the only one who feels this way, so I am including in this post links to TWO "Save the Adventurers Club" Petitions as well as the addresses to Upper Managers of The Walt Disney Company, to send physical letters to. Please inform everyone who loves Pleasure Island and the Adventurers Club of this post, to repost it to every Disney Fan Site, to sign the petitions and send letters to the company’s executives. Remember, while a stack of letters can be thrown away, it is not as easily dismissed as the pressing a delete button. Please, flood the Executives mailboxes (both physical and electronic), with multiple copies if need be. While many might believe that it is a fruitless effort, please remember that Disney is supposed to listen to its guests and if they receive enough comments they will eventually have to listen. And If they don't, we will at least have tried our best!

So, I was perusing a ton of old Disney News Magazines this weekend, and came upon some very interesting articles on the once proud Pleasure Island. Proud, that is, until Disney decided to let its magic fade away. Here are some images and stories Disney would rather sweep under the rug and pretend never happened!

More to come, as soon as I finish scanning more. Let us continue to let Disney know we are not willing to forget our magical night time refuge that is Pleasure Island and most importantly the Adventurers Club!

That is SO COOL! I remember so many of those places. And did anyone else notice one of the actors in the AC photo is STILL in the cast today (the guy on the left)!?! He was playing Otis last time we were there iirc.

I think it is dissapointing because it appears almost as if Disney alowed PI to go under. They have been cutting corners for years and have failed to take advantage of offpurtunites in front of them. I think there is now a void at WDW that can not be filled by being able to make my own underware. For shame Disney. The AC and the rest of PI will be missed.

Oh, wow! Thanks for posting that! One of the Adventurers pictured is one of my current favorite CMs - I hadn't realized he'd been there that long. I still see one of the others in the picture around World Showcase occasionally.

To anyone who thinks this is a futile effort, a few years back Disney planned to abolish Early Entry for resort guests, claiming that they took a survey that indicated that WDW visitors would rather have some lame 'Character Caravans' visit the resort instead. I and many others e-mailed in protest, I received a phone call from Disney Guest Relations as a result and eventually the Caravan idea was dropped and EMH restored. Disney does listen, and they'll pay more attention to a letter than an e-mail. Personally, we were in the market for a DVC property, now, that's off the table because of the AC closing. I'll be including that in my letters.

Lastly, for this post at least, I have it on good authority that Disney has not been able to keep up with the letters, e-mails, and phone calls due to the shear volume of the guests responses! Keep up the fight everyone, and just maybe we shall continue to march along as Adventurers for many years to come!

A colleague at work introduced me to Adventurers' Club with pictures he took when he returned from a Disney trip. Since that time (1998 or so) I have visited the AC on every trip.
(copied from another forum)
No part of the shows in the Adventurers' Club and the Comedy Warehouse involve a view of the outside. Therefore either could be resurrected in a different location.
On the other hand, if either took up too much space and didn't make enough money*, or if the performers are getting bored with the same old scripts, then there isn't much hope.
Disney hints: http://members.aol.com/ajaynejr/disney.htm
* A comment made about a merry go round that was dismantled as a result, and which was later resurrected at and for the 1963-4 New York Worlds Fair (where It's a Small World and other Disney attractions debuted).

The performers aren't bored - they are as upset as we are that the clubs are closing. (At least the ones I've heard from are.) And honestly there's so much improv that goes on I think they keep themselves entertained along with the rest of us most of the time.
And I agree that the waterfront location (and view) isn't necessary for the clubs, which is why I don't intend to let people forget about the Adventurers Club even after Sept. 27. They could easily rebuild and reopen in another location if there was enough interest to justify doing so. As for the money issues, I don't think even Disney knows how well the clubs could do with proper advertising and a nightly admission charge. However, given their popularity now when so many people don't even know what they are I think they could be hugely popular if Disney actually publicized them!

Here are a few more articles to add to the mix. One including a rare site, Cinderella Castle and The Adventurers Club sharing the same page! Another one describing not only the clubs, but the MERCHANDISE LOCATIONS and RESTAURANTS Pleasure Island once held. If anyone knows why they were closed please enlighten, for if Disney wants stores and restaurants on Pleasure Island, just utilize their existing space and leave our clubs (particularly the Adventurers Club) alone!

The sad thing is, reading over these reports (awesome find, BTW, Master Gracey), if they did it right again--with the live bands, and the diverse clubs each with a unique theme, and the fireworks, and "Forbidden Disney" shows mixed in with the improv at CW--the whole Island would be a hit again.
When things decline by degrees, to use Kevin Yee's term, you don't realize how far they've actually sunk.

Thank you Jason71, I'm glad you enjoyed my findings. It is very true that Disney let something amazing slip farthur and farther into decay as new management believed that they had to shift their focus from appeasing a wide and varied demographic, to appeasing little pirates and little princesses. Anyway, I am still scanning at least one last article that I found in the vaults, but until then, I was perusing Youtube today and came upon an amazing video. It shows what has to be the most magical moment that I have ever seen come out of any Disney park, and of all places it is at the Adventurers Club!

We have less than a month, but there is still time to let Disney know that adults deserve Magical Moments while visiting Walt Disney World and the best place for us is at The Adventurers Club!

This one's from Friday night, and I don't think there was a dry eye in the house when it was finished. What you can't really tell from the video is that they got a standing ovation afterward - the whole crowd was standing and clapping more than I've ever seen.
I'm at WDW now for my last few nights at the Club and the cast is better than they've ever been. I've had the best time the last couple of nights, but of course it's bittersweet because I know once I leave on Tuesday I won't be back again. I'm so glad I was at the Club for that moment, though. It starts out so silly but it really was the most touching moment I've ever seen there.

After spending everyday this week at the AC, this was my final Hoopla! I couldn't have asked for a better end to my time at the AC. This truly exhibits the magic that permeates every room, nook, and cranny of this building.
I don't know if any of the cast frequent this board, but I sincerely thank them for all the hard work they do to make this club as wonderful as it is. I only began visiting last January, and I know that I will forever cherish and remember the 9 fantastic nights I was able to spend here!
I really hope that Disney either changes their mind about this or reopens the club at a new location. This is a true Disney gem that will be sorely missed! At least I know that the adventure will live on in our hearts, minds, and memories!

More Disney News scans, this 1988 article featuring the plans for the up and coming "revolutionary concept in Disney entertainment" Pleasure Island!

Sigh, if only costs were not cut in the building of Pleasure Island, the family aspect of the Island wasn't lost in translation, and turnstiles were not removed, then we probably would not be in the mess we have today. Interesting news to tell as well, two of my friends, who work in Disney's Entertainment Main Gate Office, have mentioned, that Disney has concerns about Universal opening the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction and is about to launch a huge marketing campaign because of it. Also, an Imagineer who originally designed the Adventurers Club has put in a personal request to redesign it for the Animal Kingdom Lodge and the plans are still on the table. So Adventurers, there is still hope, and the fight is far from over. Even after Sept 27th, we must keep flooding executive offices with letters, e-mails, phone calls, ect. so they will see that Adventure must continue, we are not going to disappear, and give the green light to the rebuilding of our beloved Adventurers Club. Meanwhile, attend the Adventurers Club and purchase a Kungaloosh or two in an Arnie & Claude glass and toast to the possibility that we will see out beloved Club rise again! Till next time Adventurers:

Master_Gracey, thanks for posting that! It was so funny to read it and notice the name changes that have happened. I didn't remember that the Yakoose was ever supposed to have a different name, and I can't imagine Claude and Arnie being "Comedia" and "Tragedia".
I also don't believe the fight is over yet. I continue to hear rumors that Disney is considering reviving the Adventurers Club at some point, though maybe not as soon as we might hope and maybe in a different location (and with some changes). I was there Labor Day weekend and was asked by a CM on PI if I would take a survey when I got home. The survey had lots of questions about the Adventurers Club, so either the questions are very outdated or they are getting feedback while they consider reopening the Club someday.
Maybe it no longer fits with Disney's "bold new vision" of DTD, but that's okay - I don't think I fit their "bold new vision" of outsourcing at DTD, either. I won't miss the rest of DTD at all and I don't intend to go there again after the Club is gone. Still, especially given recent crowds, I don't think anyone can say that the Club is no longer popular or relevant. And just imagine if they had been selling the collectible cups and other merchandise over the years - they would have made a fortune! I still firmly believe that someone at the Disney Company is smart enough to bring the Club back somewhere on Disney property. I believe Disney is still in the "magic" business, even if Downtown Disney no longer is.

Adventurers, with one week left of our beloved Club, I just want to say, that now is not the time to give up and march into the sunset singing the song of Adventurers. Now is the time that the battle really needs to get started. While the flood of “Save the Adventurers Club” letters, emails, phone calls, ect. have been sent to Disney Executives, soon we will need to send “Bring Back the Adventurers Club” paraphernalia! While Disney took notice that there is a huge demographic of Adventurers wanting their club to stay, they also need to know that after Sept. 27th, we are not going away. Jennifer Harmless, on the “Save the Adventurers Club” Facebook Group posted this message:
I just posted this on the Yahoo group, but I want as MANY people as possible to do this!! Ok, so we all pretty much KNOW that the Adventurer's Club is closing, but what if they do have some plans to reopen it? What if they are still considering those plans? What if they get thousands of phone calls, letters, emails, pictures, maps, etc., in the next few weeks/months? This COULD make a difference in the potential future of this AMAZING club!
I beg every single one of you to call all the numbers you can find, email all the addresses you can find, multiple times from multiple addresses if you can, and send them letters. Write two or three to each person. Keep them short and simple, the more the better. Also if you have any old pics from previous trips, make copies and mail those in with a note that says something about how much it meant to you, or how angry you are that it is being taken away.
Disney LIVES on guest satisfaction. Make it glaringly obvious how DISSATISFIED we are with their decision. Tell them very clearly that any change to the club, other than perhaps making it a little larger, would be DISASTROUS. TAKE ACTION PLEASE! If all of us can do this it just might make a difference, and wouldn't that be worth it?
I'm working on postcard images and other graphics to use to send to Disney. I want all of us to hit Disney HARD to force them to reconsider their decision. If anyone wants some images to used or wants to request particular graphics for their own "save the AC" campaign please let me know.
my email is harmless@gmail.com
As far as any of my contacts in Celebration know, there is nothing definite going into the Adventurers Club area, so there is still a possibility of getting the club back in its original location! So adventurers, I leave you for now with original concept art of Pleasure Island, and the Adventurers Club Main Salon. Until next time:

I signed a petition to keep AC when this was first announced.
I also wrote a letter, explaining that AC was our first date, my DH went there for "Bachelor Party", and we went 12 hours after we were married at Disney....etc. I received a polite 'we understand, but we're closing it, anyway'.
My question is: How on earth can they equate AC with the rest of PI????

Dear Fellow Adventurers,
Well, here we are after three months of emails, letters, phone calls, blood, sweet, tears, ect, and the time has come for phase two of the “Save the Adventurers Club” Campaign, the “Return the Adventurers Club” Campaign! Disney Executives have taken notice of the mass amounts of guest displeasure at the announcement and actual closing of our beloved club, and rumors are flying out of control like the Hathaway Browne’s Gypsy Moth!
One source says Animal Kingdom Lodge will be the new sight of Adventure. Another source tells of EPCOT’s United Kingdom Pavilion taking in the Permanent Members. Sill other sources tell of a Disney Cameraman with a Disney Manager filming one night at the Club, someone overhearing them talking about the footage being compiled into a “training video”, mentioning that the Adventurers Club Main Salon, Library and BET Soundstage would be the new Adventurers Club, and that the reopening will occur in as little as two months! Which is true? Which is false? I do not know but I do know this.
The Executives were expecting a response from the closure announcement; however they were not prepared for the volume of dissatisfaction. In the following weeks, months and if need be years, the Executives need to continue to have their desks, computers and phones stuffed with messages saying that we want Adventure to return ASAP and sooner! If the messages stop, they will then sit back and say to themselves they were right, and no one cared about the Adventurers Club in the first place, However, if the messages continue to pile up They will see that movement will not be going away until we Adventurers have a new place to gather, enjoy a Kungaloosh and listen to the exploits of Hathaway Browne, Pamelia Perkins, Otis T. Wren and so on.
Please Adventurers, continue the fight! Our cause is justified. I was in attendance on the last night and witnessed that the Final Hoopla (for a while) consisted of 150 people inside the Library, 200+ inside the Main Salon and 100+ in the extended outdoor Queue, watching the event on the Plasma TVs! This kind of crowd does not appear at an unpopular attraction that deserves to close. So once again, here are the important addresses and websites devoted to preserving the greatest Disney Attraction of all time!

Were not defeated yet Adventurers! According to Dani on the "Save the Adventurers Club" Facebook group:
Save The Adventurers Club | Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=17614776169)
In other news, I was at Downtown Disney on Monday morning working on some nostalgic AdClub art when I was approached by two Disney Security CMs. They encouraged me to keep the petitions going and keep writing letters. I was also approached by a construction worker who's working on the large brown building next door to the Club and he spilled a few secrets about a tequilla bar going in there. Although unannounced and unconfirmed by Disney, it's going to be some sort of themed bar with a dancefloor called The Salty Rim. Hmmmm
Oh boy a tequila bar! Oh boy, a dance floor! Wait, didn't we already have places like this at Downtown Disney, but with much better theming? Oh yea, and those building still stand and can be reopened at a moments notice. On a more important note Adventurers, lets take Disney Security's advice and keep up the flow of letters and petitions and Adventure will call our names once again!

Just thought I'd keep this thread alive and post another Disney News article featuring the pre-construction times of Pleasure Island and remind everyone to please continue to send in letters, e-mails, phone calls, ect. to Disney Executives to let them know to "Return Our Adventurers Club". I went by there a few days ago, and it looks like it can reopen at a moments notice! Granted that is due to the conventions booked there, but if we continue to let Disney know that we want Adventure to be returned to us, Adventure may still be in our future at Pleasure Island, which is where it truly belongs.

Dear Adventurers,
If anyone is in the Pleasure Island area tonight, I just received word that tonight, as a test of popularity, our beloved frozen concoction, the Kungaloosh will be served at one of the outdoor bars! Come buy and show your support so that it may be added back to Pleasure Islands new, and unfortunately limited drink menu. Who know, if the drink is brought back, hopefully the Adventurers Club will follow suit.

Save The Adventurers Club | Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=17614776169) Heard a rumor today that there is a chance that Disney might reopen some of the clubs during the Holiday rush, if they're considering this there is more reason now than ever to send these letters. I myself just shot out 5 today. Another Hoopla (hoopla) maybe closer than we think.
Lets hope that this is true, if so, our message is finally getting through! Keep up the good work Adventurers!

Fellow Adventurers,
As I was perusing the Adventurers Club Yahoo Group (Adventurers_Club : Adventurers Club (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Adventurers_Club/)) I came upon a very interesting file. For Halloween, someone, who seemed to have some time on his hands, created an Adventurers Club Logo Jack-O-Lantern and posted the template he used to carve it! I know I'm going to try my hand at it before All Hallows Eve, and here are the files in case anyone else wants to as well.

Kungaloosh Adventurers,
With Halloween a week away, I thought that I would share with you a labor of love that I took upon myself at the beginning of this month, an Adventurers Club Jack-O-Lantern. After 5 hours of printing, tracing and cutting I finished the initial job and with the knowledge from retracing my steps, I was able to put together this easy (at least as easy as I could make it) template so that you too can carve your own Adventurers Club Jack-O-Lantern! Here are a few tips that I can give to you:
1. Purchase a craft pumpkin from Michaels (That way you will not have to cry as your hours of work wither and die over the next week, and you can display your work for years to come!)
2. Purchase a "Pumpkin Masters Carving Party Kit" from Wallmart that includes a "Super Poker" to trace the blackened areas of the template to your pumpkin.
3. Tape the template as flat as you can to the pumpkin (this may mean cutting the paper a bit, just don't cut into the design).
4. If using a craft pumpkin, make your cuts with an Exacto Knife instead of the tools that come with the Carving Party Kit, an Exacto cuts smoother and will have less chances of breaking the small detailed areas.
5. Carve from the inside of the pumpkin outward and cutting the small areas before the larger ones.
6. Take it slow and Good Luck.

When were at the AC on 9/25/08, one of the employees had told us not one VIP Disney Exec had yet to come into the club to see how popular it really is.This was very upsetting because the place was packed! He didn't even get an offer to work somewhere else on property! Very sad.

Happy Halloween Adventurers! A friend of mine down in Florida sent me this picture of his Halloween group this year. He informed me that there have been a lot of Adventurers Club groups, as well as his own, attending Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party this year, so its good to know that there are still devoted Adventurers out there! Who knows, if we keep the letters, e-mail, phone calls, ect. rolling into the Exec Offices, then Marcel willing, we will all be enjoying a Kungaloosh next year at this time at the Halloween Jubilee inside the Library of 5189 Hill Street!

Fellow Adventurers,
It appears as though the Kungalooshes are making a return to the Laffer's Cantina this Saturday! On of the top "Save the Adventurers Club" Facebook Group infrmants, Dani, has this to say:
Save The Adventurers Club | Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=17614776169)Listen up boys and girls! It's looking like Saturday night's Kungalooshing may have media coverage, so it's time to go to work. I've been in contact with Dewayne Bevil who covered the last Pleasure Island story for the Orlando Sentinel. Rumor has it that WESH 2 News may also make an appearance that night.
Look, the executives are testing us. Last time, in a moment's notice, Adventurers showed up and emptied the margarita machine in a few hours. This time they've given us three weeks. We need to show up in droves. Bring everyone you know. Let's induct new members on the stairs. I don't care! This is such an awesome oppurtunity to show them that we plan on having this Club returned!
I, for one, plan on being present for the Balderdash Cup Competition of 1938. Who's with me?
So, if one Orlando Sentinel story heralded the closing of Pleasure Island, perhaps, if the turnout is massive enough, by this Sunday's edition we will see the headline "Due to Guest Feedback, Disney decideds to Return the Adventurers Club!"

I'm having a sad few days thinking about the AC. I find that I'm getting more and more upset as time goes on because I'm afraid that people will start to forget. As more time goes on, the experiences people shared will become a long forgotten memory.
On Christmas Eve, my future DH and I exchanged presents. He got me tons of AC items from ebay, including pins, cast photos, even a drink menu from the tables in the library! It was awesome! Such a great present and I will treasure these things forever. That night, we spend hours watching videos from the AC on youtube and laughing histerically.
Ever since then, it's all I can think about! I just don't understand! How can they look at these videos, hear everyone's opinions and still decide to close the most unique place that most people have ever been to. It's just so sad.
I have a nostalgic connection to the AC since I had been going there since I was younger. I am so grateful that I was able to have a few years of my adulthood to experience the AC too It's also the place where future DH and I celebrated our engagement. We spent a lot of time that night interacting with the characters. It was very special.
I sometimes think about this older local couple we met there a few years ago. They started talking to future DH and I about how much they love it there and go at least once a week. They knew each and ever actor by name (their real names) and were able to tell us that this one just got married and that one just had a baby. What must they be feeling right now? They were clearly retired and this was obviously such a big part of their lives.
I've heard that some of the actors have been placed in other areas around the parks but I just can't help but think that it's such a waste of talent to have them hosting American Idol. I can only hope that the reason they are holding onto them is so that when they reopen the club, they will still be on their payroll and can go right back to their rightful jobs!
Well thanks for letting me :charac2: for a while! I knew that you'd understand and feel the same way. I'll post pics of the presents soon!
Kungaloosh!
p.s. Has Joe Rhode said anything about the closing of this club? I know that he had a lot to do with the creation and decoration of it and I'd love to know what his opinion on its closing is.

This is cool. Apparently, at some points, Graves would come around and walk up to random people calling them by the name on a letter he was holding on his silver platter telling you that you had a message from Hathaway Browne. I think there were 4 or 6 different people and messages. This was sealed when I got it and I didn't even want to open it! Inside was a letter from Hathaway. I think it's so cool that someone took the time to type up and address these letters!!!

This is a membership certificate. Not sure when they were giving these out. Again, just an added awesome bonus thing that the AC did.

And finally, this is the shadowbox that future DH made for me. He put in some pins he bought, Hathaway Brown's business card that he printed on-line, a schedule of events, our favorite pics from the AC and a shrunken cast photo.

Nikki - I love all your gifts, especially the shadowbox. That was such a neat idea!
The cups are definitely authentic. They sold those for the last few weeks that the Club was open. There were five different designs: Babylonia, Claude and Arnie, the Yakoose, The Colonel, and "Kungaloosh". They sold each design until it sold out and then moved on to the next one.

I just read this thread and it seriously depressed me.
What depresses me even more is when we were down for almost ten days this past June we kept saying we were going to hit the Adventurer's Club on a number of nights...and it just never happened. If I had known then what was coming only a few months later...we would've spent EVERY night there!!!
Alas...now I'm only left with the what might have been...

Sad news everyone, Sugar Snapp just wrote to me to say that Blondie just found out that Bill, the regular at the club who the Adventurers would always razz for falling asleep, is possibly going to pass away this week. He is at Dr. Phillips hospital, and his wife Jean doesn't really have anyone down here. She needs all the support she can get. Sugar thinks that we all need to stick together and be there for them as only adventurers can! I'll add more info whenever I get it. Please pass the word on.

I had heard that he wasn't doing well. That's so sad! Some of my fondest memories of the Club are of times that Blondie was trying to wake Bill up or joking around because he was asleep. Bill and Jean will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Kungaloosh Adventurers,
It's been a while since last posing, and unfortunately there is no new news about the Adventurer's Club reopening (yet) but I just wanted to post a few items that I have come across in my internet browsing that shows that the Adventurers Club refuses to die:
1) A Facebook event that looks like a promisingly fun day to anyone who may be in the Orlando area May 1st!
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/event.php?eid=80177492135:
20th Anniversary of the Adventurers Club
Start Time: Friday, May 1, 2009 at 12:00pm
End Time: Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 12:00am
Location: Walt Disney World
20 years ago this May 1st, the Adventurers Club first flung open their doors. The idea has been floated around to see if a bunch of people would like to gather, possibly in Adventurers costumes, and make a general nuisance of ourselves.
Park hopping has been suggested, as I'm sure we'll want to be well seen (to be more annoying to upper management), and because I can't decide if I want a beer from EPCOT or a Pineapple Whip from Adventureland more. A swing by Pleasure Island for photos may happen as well.
More details to come as the date approaches
2) Blondie as Six Bits at the normally unchanging "Hoop-Dee-Doo-Musical Review" sings "Bessie the Heifer"!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUabgGg1uFg
There are new rumors sprouting up almost every week indicating that the Club's re-opening is imminent. So I believe that it is time again to send off a few more letters to the Disney Execs letting them know that Adventure keeps calling our name, and we want our Club back to satisfy the call!

I was sent an e-mail from D23 asking me to take a survey to "get to know Disney fans better." There were many multiple choice questions and the last questions said something like, "Is there anything else you think Disney fans want us to know?" I responded that we want the Adventurer's Club back!

Kungaloosh Adventurers,
One of my friends down in Florida sent me a picture of a group of revelers at Pleasure Island on its 20th Birthday, raising a toast to the Grand Funmeister himself, Merriweather Adam Pleasure!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/Happy20thBirthday.jpg
Apparently they thought that if Disney wasn't going to celebrate Pleasure Island (Even in this year of Celebrate Today) then someone had to, and it might as well be them! Well, I say a hearty Kungaloosh to you good Adventurers!

Kungaloosh Adventurers,
It’s been a while since my last post and I wanted to give an update (as far as I know it to be) on the current status of the Club. Rumors have abounded for months as to the Congaloosh at the end of this month being the last hurrah for the Adventurers Club as we know and love it, and it’s insides are being shipped to Hong Kong. However, I recently spoke to an Adventurer who has heard that conventions may be extended to the end of the year. Also on the Save PI Blog there is a rumor that the Club will reopen on January 1st. Another interesting bit of info is that the Club’s roof has recently had tiles repaired and replaced! So, unfortunately there are no concrete answers as of yet to some of these rumors, but we can only hope that if conventions are allowed to continue, there will still be a chance of a reopening. For the moment I leave you with a few park map covers that I hope will one day be used at WDW.

i just saw this thread and signed the petition (hey better late than never - at least it shows disney that people are still interested!) i had read about the adventures club and always thought what a cool place it was - totally unique, fun, and themed to the utmost. a place where people revisit over and over and you hear nothing but raves about it. i think it's just the sort of place that walt himself would have cherished. my last trip the world was in 2003 - when i was only 17, and being underage i couldn't go. when i read that the adventurer's club was closing i was so devastated. it just seemed so arbitrary to close a place that was such genius.

Marielynn724, I'm sorry you never got to experience the magic of the club, and it's wonderful to see such support from people who have never even been (you're not alone). I'm glad that you "get" the whole thing. It's so unique, I often find myself struggling to explain to people exactly what the Adventurers Club is all about. Unless you've been (and stayed awhile), it's tough to grasp what it's like, as there is nothing else anywhere to compare it to. Luckily there is certainly no lack of videos on YouTube.
And to our ghost host, Master Gracey, great job on those guide maps! :thumbsup2

Kungaloosh Adventurers! It's been a while but I’ve recently heard a story that leads me to believe that one of the best chances of getting our Club back reside in the new Chairman Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, Tom Staggs. The story I was told that gives me hope for this man goes like this:
During one of his first days in his new position, Tom walked into Imagineering and asked them to tell him about the new Fantasyland Expansion. They were most emphatically telling him about the Ariel Dark Ride, Beauty and the Beast Restaurant, all the Princess Meet and Greets and Pixie Hollow, when he cut them off and said, “No”! He went on to tell Imagineering that not in his parks would he allow the possibility of a five year old boy, waiting in a three hour line for an autograph of Cinderella, just because his sister wants one! He then asked what was broken ground on so far and was told that Ariel’s Dar Ride and the Beauty and the Beast Restaurant. He said to finish those, but everything else, scrap and start again!
I believe if a gutsy man like this is in charge of Parks and Resorts he can correct one of Jay Rasulo’s biggest mistakes (A.K.A. The closing of the Adventurers Club and all of Pleasure Island) if he is shown that the public still wants our nighttime escape returned. So please, those who wrote so many letters two years ago, (and anyone else who demands the greatest example of true Disney Imagineering to be brought back) once again take pen to paper (or any equivalent there of) and write to:
Thomas O. Staggs
Chairman
Walt Disney Parks & Resorts
C/O Team Disney Building
500 South Buena Vista St.
Burbank, CA 91521-4873
Tom.Staggs@disney.com
The Club may have been gutted, but from what I’ve heard, nothing has been sent to Mystic Point yet, and the artifacts still reside in a warehouse on Walt Disney World property! It still can and should be put back! Let Tom Staggs know that Adventure is out there, we just want it back to 5189 Hill Street!

While the idea of bringing the AC back is great, I just cannot see it happening. It has been gutted and plans are already made for everything inside. If the intense phone call and letter writing campaign that occurred before its closing didn't work, I just don't see hope that writing now will. I hope it does though. Good luck!

Happy 4th of July Everyone! And for you Pleasure Island Histarians out there:
The story begins in New South Frewsberg, Pennsylvania, on July 4th, 1873. “Gold Rush Gus” Pleasure, free-wheeling millionaire prospector/explorer, paces in his study. A smiling nurse enters and announces the birth of a bouncing baby boy to him and his wife, the former Miss Lydia LaMarr, an early star of the American stage (known professionally as “The American Venus”). The boy is named “Merriweather” after Gus’ own father.
~An exerpt from "The Pleasure Island Papers"
Happy 137th Birthday, Merriweather Adam Pleasure! My your Island revive this year and once again bring joy to Adventurers everywhere!

Hey everyone I was just wondering if anyone had some info. I know most of the cast is still at WDW in some form or another but I am looking for someone that worked there but wasn't in the cast. His name is Kirk Mcdaniel. He assisted everyone in the library. Last I heard he is still working at WDW but I don't know where. Does anyone have any idea???? He was just a tremendous person to my wife and I would love to see him as he is a GREAT cast member. And that is an understatement. Thanks alot everyone!!!

From what i've heard he moved to the Contemporary, i think as a concierge. He is an awesome cast member! I had many great conversations with him at the club and was just thinking about him the other day when I was reminiscing about the club with a friend. There's a thread on the Adventurers Club Yahoo Group about him from back in 2009 http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Adventurers_Club/message/11306
I hope he's still with the company, i'd love to go see him when I make it down for a visit.

Kungaloosh Adventurers,
I know it has been a while since I've posted here, but I have a proposition for the next step in the ever popular fight to return Adventure to Walt Disney World! As we know, a few days ago Disney has announced what they believe the public wants out of Pleasure Island, Hyperion Wharf. I'm not going to get into the details, for I'm providing the link to the Official Disney Parks Blog where you may read the announcement at your leasure. However, the most interesting thing is that about 95% of the first 283 comments about Hyperion Wharf mention the Adventurers Club by name, either lamenting its loss, demanding its return or wondering where it fits into the new plans. So Adventurers, we are not alone in wanting Adventure returned to Downtown Disney, and here is our new outlet to let Disney know it! Please flood this Blog's comment board on what we, the public, truely want, our Adventurers Club's immediate return, and not what my latest propoganda poster depicts. . .
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/LackofVisionBW.jpg
Disney should not be able to turn blind eye to their own Official Blog, and, if your post doesn't make it by the moderator, then please try again, just a little toned down. As long as the majority of comments deal with the Adventurers Club our point should be getting across. Here's to hoping for another Hoopla in 5189 Hill St.!

However, the Club's closing was due to greed and bad planning, to which "bombarding" the blog with comments in favor of the re-opening of the Adventurers Club will hopefully open some eyes on the executive level.

I will be so sad if the Adventurers Club doesn't return in Hyperion Wharf. Empty seats? everytime I was there, it was always packed. If losing money was the main issue, they could add a dinner option or something - that could bring more guests in and be more profitable.

I just posted on the blog. I think I was #308 and once it went through, it showed the last posts from 300 on, and every single one mentioned the AC!! I really hope they are reading.....
Edit to add: Wow, I just went back even further...nearly every single post is about the AC! I could cry just thinking about how many people were affected by this place for the better. It was really their own fault for not getting people in the door when they made all those changes to PI....started charging admission to the clubs (not the island itself), did away with the street celebrations, tore down the West End Stage....it's like they WANTED the admission to decline so they had an excuse to close the clubs....

I posted to the blog too. I'm post # 296.
Its funny but I had never heard of the Adventurer's Club before reading here on the DIS that is was closing. It was only after reading how much people loved AC and hated to see it closed that I decided to visit for myself.
In previous visits, my kids were too young to go to PI (or so I thought) and I couldn't afford the in room sitter so we never went. If I had known that there were areas of PI that they could have gone into, we would have gone years ago.
We got to visit AC for the first (and only time) during our August 2008 trip. The plan was to start with the Adventurer's Club and then go over to the Comedy Club since I had heard it was fun too. But we had such a good time at AC, we never left. My sons were 20 and 15 at the time. I thought they would be bored or think it was corny but they LOVED it!! Especially when at one point, Emil came and sat at our table and got the kids involved.
I know that Disney (in the past) has listened to its fans. That's how Soarin Over California came to EPCOT. I hope they listen to us now.

So here is the question Adventureres. What I place before you is a piece of Hyperion Wharf concept art that I've heard that Disney posted somewhere, but quickly removed due to a certain roof in the background.

If we look closer (which I know is hard to do since no one grabbed a larger version of this piece) at the space under the eyesore balloon, the Adventurers Club roof is still standing in Hyperion Wharf!

Some of the speculation i've heard is that they have no idea what's going to happen to the AC. That's why it's currently (rumored to be) at the bottom of the demolition list.

Kungaloosh Adventurers,
I just had my annual visit with Santa Claus and asked of him for only one thing: the Adventurers Club to re-open in 2011! Needless to say, Santa was perplexed, but he assured me he would look into it. You may think I'm crazy (and you'd be right), but believe it or not, my mother (who taught 3rd Grade for 32 years) wrote to her schoolboard for years to get exrtra power outlets installed in her classroom, and after years of being denied she wrote them a letter addressed to Santa Claus asking for the outlets. By gum, the next year she had new outlets! Never doubt the power of Santa (maybe we should send the Disney Execs our letters to Santa, just a thought). Anyhow, I leave you a gift of the Traditional Christmas Eve Midnight Retelling of "'Twas The Night Before Christmas"! For full effect, prepair a glass of Egg Nog, Wassail or Kungaloosh and press play at midnight tonight! I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and an Adventurous New Year!

How neat! I had heard that there was a new cookbook out, but I had no idea it had some Club recipes in it. I will have to pick that up sometime.
One of my Facebook friends posted a picture the other day - apparently a new set of hidden Mickey "mystery pins" (the kind that come packaged so you can't see them when you buy them) will include our Adventurers Club logo as one of the pins! I don't know when they come out (if they have already) but I was excited to see it.

Kungaloosh Everyone,
I'm sure we all remember that on Nov. 18 the Official Disney Park Blog posted their " First Look: Waterfront District 'Hyperion Wharf' Among Plans for Downtown Disney" and after almost a month of the comment section being open, almost 95% of the 372 comments (that made it past the moderator) were about how we want our Adventurers Club to come back. Well Adventurers, here is yet another chance to let Disney know that we want Adventurer back in our lives.
I've recieved in my In Box that the new Disney Park Blog question is, "Your favorite Disney Character Is. . .". I'm sure we can all fill that blank with Hathaway Browne, Samantha Sterling, Otis T. Wren, Pamelia Perkins, Fletcher Hodges, Graves, and any of the many Maids that we all know and love. Be sure to include in your post that your favorite character is from the Adventurers Club, and if you feel like adding a personal story of how that charcater touched your life, I'm sure it couldn't hurt. This battle is far from over Adventurers, let us once again tell Disney that "An Adventurers Life is Best"!

Happy Valentine's Day Adventurers,
Once again, the Disney Parks Blog has set themselves up for an Adventurers Club ballot box stuffing! Today's internet query is "Your Favorite Disney Character Couple is…". http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2011/02/your-favorite-disney-character-couple-is/ Lets get to it Adventurers! I'm sure everyone is in favor of Otis & Pamelia, or Hathaway and well, every lady he looks at, or Emil & Bessie the Heifer, or any other combination. Please be sure to include in your comment that these characters are from the Adventurers Club (as I'm sure the higher ups may need a gentle reminder of the properties they own and are letting go to waste), and how much you would like to see them back at Walt Disney World by next Valentines Day.
The last Blog question of "Your Favorite Disney Character is…" is still open, and the Adventurers Club is well spoken for (I think that Hathaway Browne beat out Mickey Mouse). So lets contiune to remind Disney that "An Adventurers Life is Best"!

I don't know how I missed this fantastic opportunity for so long, but here is the chance to use the "Let the Memories Begin" campaign to our advantage! Below is a link to a site where you can subit a photo of a favorite Disney memory as well as tell the photo's story (in 1000 words or less)! So, I propose we flood this campaign with adventurous photos and memories. Oh, and be be sure to add in your stories how you would like the Club to reopen so more memories can be made!

KUNGALOOSH! I'm so glad to see the fight for our Adventurer's Club is still going strong! Disney was so stupid to ever close it in the first place! Please please please let's hope it comes back to Hyperion Wharf!

Just recently I have heard an interesting rumor and story this from a certain Skipper who we all know and love. One of his Universal contacts mentioned to him that their is a possibility of the New York City "Jekyll and Hyde Club" coming to Citywalk! For those of you who do not know of this Club, it was rumored to have been built by a former Adventurers Club employee. It is a themed restraunt/bar with interactive entertainment and undoubtedly inspired by our beloved Club, so much so that they have a portraits of Otis T. Wren and Hathaway Browne on their walls!

Now, as for the story. . . a few weeks ago, Bob Iger had visted Universal to experience the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It was reported to be a cordial visit all around with Iger and Universal Management disscussing the differences between how each park operates, and other such business. A few days later a Mansion Butler witnessed Iger and Magic Kingdom Vice President, Phil Holmes getting off the Haunted Mansion (we are to assume inspecting the new Hitchhiking Ghosts). Iger turned to Holmes and irritatedly muttered, "It's not Potter" and walked away!
If this is true, then finally Disney is realizing that they have to start keeping up with the Potters. (Which is still a sad state of affairs since, as we all know, Disney once led the theme park industry.) Also, if this is the case, then if The Jekyll & Hyde Club does open at Citywalk, we can only hope that it does exceedingly well to the point that Disney will have to take notice and say to themselves, "Wait, didn't we once have the attration that inspired that Club? Crap! Well, what are you minions waiting for, get that stuff off of the walls of D'Street, Tahitian Terrace and Mystic Manor and rush deliver it back to 5189 Hill St.!"

No, it's not Potter, but you also don't wait two hours for it. My brother's family went to Potter, they have now sworn off Universal for a while. Iger needs to realize that what HE experienced is not what the average guest is expereincing. (Long lines, being shuttled around the park and told "you can't even enter that area now" etc...)
While I think Disney needs to "up their game" Potter is not the solution!

Kungaloosh Adventurers,
Oh boy, I though Disney Parks Blog had learned not to ask questions they didn't want true answers to, but the one I just found is, "What’s your favorite 'Disneyland After Dark' entertainment memory?" Now even though this is dealing with Disneyland, I'm sure we can retrofit it to our needs!
Also, they are advertising "Up Close With Indy Jones at Table in Wonderland" which I plan on commenting that it has been done, but so much better for ConGaloosh 2010 with true Adventurers enteraining the crowd!
Please Adventurers, we need to continue to let Disney know the mistake they made on Sept. 27, 2008 and we are not going to let them forget that we want our Club back. Lets get commenting!
What’s your favorite "Disneyland After Dark" entertainment memory?

Kungaloosh Adventurers,
Well the past few days have provided interesting rumors. The Save Pleasure Island Blog is covering the developing story of how Mannequins & 8TRAX exterior show lighting has been relit and managers have been seen coming in and out of the Adventurers Club! Some are saying that there is talk that the Hyperion Wharf project has been postponed or perhaps even canceled!
Read all about it here
http://www.savepleasureisland.blogspot.com/
If this is true, then it may be time for another round of letter writting to the upper Disney Management to get them set on the correct path of Adventure!
Also, the Disney Parks Blog's latest post that screams, "lets talk about the Adventurers Club", is "Wild Africa Trek Gets More Adventurous at Disney’s Animal Kingdom" featuring an interview with the Father of the Adventurer Club, Joe Rohde! Let's get a goodly number of posts up on this one Adventurers, to show Joe and Disney how we feel about the pearl that is our Club!

Kungaloosh Adventurers,
To start off, let us recap the recent rumors going around about Merriweather's Island. According to recent rumors, Hyperion Wharf has been put on hold if not canceled; There is a movement for 3rd parties to put clubs back on Pleasure Island; The Adventurers Club puppet of Col. Suchbecnch recently went up for auction in a cast members only section on WDW only for a few days later to be removed from auction to be placed in a safe location; and many other positive rumors are surfacing every day!
King Bob of the “Save Pleasure Island” Blogspot has called all lovers of Pleasure Island to arms for one more letter writing campaign to the Executives of the Walt Disney Company imploring them to bring back our beloved nightlife capital of Walt Disney World! http://www.savepleasureisland.blogspot.com/
Many have started to respond to this new movement and recently on the WDWMagic Forum, Lee received this response from Ana Brady of Guest Services:
Dear Lee,
We appreciate the uniqueness of the email you sent to Tom Staggs and other members of our Leadership teams. We also appreciate your passion for the Adventurer’s Club and enthusiasm for our product offerings. We recognize that this ‘entertainment adventure’ was a unique experience and will certainly be missed by many loyal Fans, like yourself. Tom has personally spent a number of great evenings there and will miss it himself.
With that in mind, you will be happy to know that our Creative team is constantly exploring options for us to reintroduce the spirit of the Adventurer’s Club at our Walt Disney World Resort. It is too early to say when or in what form that might happen, but we will continue to look in the hope of finding the right opportunity.
Please also understand that a tremendous amount of thought went into our decision for the creation of a new vision for Downtown Disney®. As we look to the future, we are excited about the evolution that will occur over the next few years, introducing a brand new mix of shopping, dining and other opportunities for our Guests' enjoyment.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
Sincerely,
Ana Brady

While many would think that this response will hamper out efforts, I say that we use this to our advantage. From here on out, copy/past this response into every e-mail and letter that is sent with a message reading along the lines of, “I am well aware of the canned response that has been drafted to respond to letters of this nature and since I took the time to write to you I would appreciate you taking the time to actually respond to this issue that will not go away until the Adventurers Club has been reopen on Walt Disney World property”. Also a nice stinger along the lines of,“ Reintroducing the spirit of the Adventurer’s Club is not the same as re-opening the Adventurers Club, which is what your customers are truly asking for” would hopefully get the point accross!
We are making progress Adventurers, with Hyperion Wharf on hold, this is the time to once again let the Disney Company here us singing the song of Adventurers, the song that is calling us back to home to 5189 Hill St. for another Hoopla!

The boy is named “Merriweather” after Gus’ own father.

when we first started going to the adventurer's club in 2003, we thought it was the best thing on pleasure island, true disney imagination and theming for adults, not kids. by this i don't mean the show was profane in any way, but certainly the innuendo in the jokes was aimed at a mature audience. a far better adult escape than pleasure island's comedy club, adventurer's club still managed to keep you in a disney state of mind. this continued to be true in 2004. then something changed, by 2006 pleasure island was no longer for adults only. the wristband requirement to be allowed to enter pleasure island was now only a wristband to be able to purchase alcoholic beverages. the performance i saw in 2006 was not for the adults present. it centered on and was aimed at any child present. the innuendo was nearly all gone, and witty exchanges became merely high pitched voices screaming at eachother. this held the children's attention and amused them, but left the adults who knew this place before, shaking their heads and leaving. i miss the original adventurer's club as much as anyone, and would love to see it's return. however, if the return is the kid-friendly screaming, i'd prefer the R.I.P. and fond memories. it sounds promising that something is in the works. many said tiki room would never be reverted to it's original glory and yet?... the response of "looking into it" and "similar" may not be a bad thing. at least there's finally some thread of hope.

Also as reported on the Save Pleasure Island Blog http://savepleasureisland.blogspot.com/2011/07/pi-update-does-new-dvc-president-help.html, the new shakeup of Disney upper management has placed Karl Holz (President of the Disney Cruise Line and former Vice President of Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island) in charge of The Disney Vacation Club! We can, as will win this battle Adventurers! One of my sources has told me that our likelyhood of success has greatly increased since the first few months of Disneyland's Trader Sam's Bar has been a massive success, even though they can seat only 60 people. Good thing our Club can fit 300! (I know, I was there when we tried!) Keep the spirit alive Adventureres and continue to dress for the hunt!

Kungaloosh Adventurers,
We are fast approaching Sept. 30, the beginning of the annual Adventurers Club Convention, the ConGaloosh! For the past two years, we adventurers have met at Walt Disney World for a weekend of exploring, bar hopping, singing and balderdashing. In general, it is one great big Hoopla! Unfortunately, this year Disney is not releasing the Club Characters to perform a show, but that will not keep true adventurers down! It is more important than ever that this year’s convention is well attended to send a message to Disney that we still want our Club returned. With Adventurers Club references springing up all over the world, i.e. Trader Sam’s at Disneyland, Aunty's Beach House in Aulani, The Adventurers Club Restaurant at Hong Kong Disneyland and the rumored connection between the Club and Tokyo Disney S.E.A., something has to give soon to return the homebase of adventure to Walt Disney World!
In addition, after great consideration, the powers in charge of the Congaloosh have made this years gathering FREE! There is still a great lineup of events and adventurers, including a rumored Adventureland Challenge lead by the infamous “Right Guard” Ian himself! So please follow this link to check out the even and sign up to attend Congaloosh 2011!

I actually will be there that weekend. I really wanted to go last weekend to see the show with the cast but it didn't work out. This year, I just happened to be going that weekend but between the first day of Food and Wine, MNSSHP, and the 5K, I don't think I could possibly squeeze in one more thing! I'm going to go to the site and see if maybe there's something on the schedule I could get to.....

Good Morning Adventurers! OK, I know I keep posting Disney Park Blog entries to comment on, but this is one that MUST be addressed. Tom Staggs (Who I still believe is our best man to bring back our Club) has posted his own Blog entry thanking those who attended D23. There have been some unhappy remarks on how nothing new was presented and "Richard from LA" got in his own two cents of "No word at all about what will be done at Pleasure Island? Haven’t you been listening to the Disney fans who want the Adventurers Club and other PI nightclubs reopened?" From what I've heard, Tom did the same thing for Hyperion Wharf as he did for the Fantasyland Expansion: he stepped into the planning room and said something along the lines of "No one wants more shopping and dining. This is dumb, fix it". This is the man that we must reach Adventurers and I keep hearing that our cry is being heard higher and higher up the Disney ladder, so please Adventurers, let the flood gates open once more!

Dear Adventurers,
Just because the props and signage has been removed from our beloved Adventurers Club, does not mean it is time to give up. On the contrary, this is the time that will prove our resolve more than ever. We know that the building is not going to be demolished (1. The most recent permits show nothing about demolition, and 2. Disney wouldn't spend the money to have the sign paved over if the building was coming down) therefore, we can not let Disney forget that we are still here and we will continue sining the song of Adventurers, louder and louder until we attend the next Hoopla in 5189 Hill St.! Please, start writing letters, e-mail, and call the phone numbers of everyone that has been listed on the list of names [provided below]. We will not let our Club go gentle into that good night, it shall rise again!

Kungaloosh Adventurers,
Well certainly the place to be last weekend was at the celebration of all things Adventurers Club, ConGaloosh 2011! Friday started with meeting up at the Holiday Inn on 535 for updating everyone’s tales of adventures and an Adventurer’s second favorite pastime, Adult Beverages!
If anyone wonders if Disney is watching these boards, let Friday night’s events be the confirmation. Our intrepid group set a course for Merriweather’s Island for a group picture on the hallowed steps of our beloved Adventurers Club. We were greeted by the Pleasure Island Map’s Guest Relations cast member with a hearty, “Kungaloosh and welcome to Pleasure Island!”. As we approached the Club we saw 4 Disney Managers and 5 security guards (one of whom was heard saying "7:30...they're right on time") standing directly across from the Club. Thankfully, they seemed to just be there to make sure things didn’t get out of hand, for the picture was taken, a Club Salute was given and we continued onward towards Raglan Road singing “The Adventurers Club All Purpose Theme Song” without incident!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/AdventurersontheStairsFull.jpg
We spent some time in the Irish Pub singing old Club standards such as “The Beer Song”, “Those Were The Days”, etc. Then we headed for the cars and journeyed onward to The Swan for some Karaoke at Kimonos.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/Kimonos.jpg
After a couple of songs and sushi, our Emcee for the weekend, Robert Croskery, called up our fellows dressed as Hathaway and Samantha to lead the restaurant in a recitation of the Club Creed. Then once again we were on the road and on to Dixie Landings (or Port Orleans Riverside, your pick) to visit Yahoo Bob in the River Roost Lounge. We sang along to such Adventurers Club favorites as “That’s Amore” and “When the Saints Go Marching In”, and posed with Bob for the last group shot of the night.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/RiverRoostwithYahooBob.jpg
Then all good Adventurers, returned to their cots to physically and mentally prepare themselves for the next day’s quest!
All that ConGaloosh.org told us of Ian Quest 2011 was “Come and test your wits and adventuring skills against the perils of Adventureland! Will you emerge victorious?” Little did we know that our good friend “Right Guard” Ian sent a message to Col. Wayne P. McSwagger, requesting a special “Adventureland Challenge” for us. The “Challenge” was a daily occurrence in Adventureland between 1995 – 2000, but surfaced once again in 2009 for the Jungle Cruise Skipper’s Reunion. Col. McSwagger had stolen the Mystic Golden Idol of Adventureland. He who controls the Idol, controls Adventureland and the only way McSwagger would give up the Idol was if someone could beat him in a game of his choosing. Usually the Col. Would bring along a fallen Skipper who had become his Lackey, but for us he brought along his partner in crime, Baroness Eugenia Nefertiti Von Swoon
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/TheColonelTheBaroness.jpg
to help give out special maps of Adventureland and to keep us somewhat on track.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/CongalooshMap.jpg
On the back of the map was a clue that lead us to gift shops in Adventureland, and in the shops we received yet more clues.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/CongalooshClues.jpg
After all 8 clues were collected, we fliped over all of them to find one last clue written in an ancient “Forbidden” text,
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/FinalClue.jpg
Translation: For those of you who are reckless, brave and loyal,
the Balderdash Cup may be the prize for your toil.
To end this Idol tale that could help you compete,
look all 'round the port where Jungle Rivers meet.
but thankfully McSwagger provided us with his personal, “Swagger Stone” for translation.

We then ran to the hiding place to search through bushes and other various scenery. When the Idol was recovered we were all horrified to find that no one had followed all the clues to the letter, for we were also supposed to tell McSwagger where Otis T. Wren had placed an “X” on a map and what the times of the tide were for the day (according to Dreamy Ka’imi). So, in the end McSwagger won the game, but everyone loved the thrill of the hunt. Also, the Colonel has vowed to play again next year and we will all be ready to carefully read his instructions!

Then at 6 P.M. we gathered back at the Holiday Inn's "Discovery Room" for the main event.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/TheDiscoveryRoom.jpg
Robert started us off with bringing up this years President of the ConGaloosh Society, Bernard Deschanes and Hathaway Browne (a.k.a. “Right Guard” Ian)

to start us off with a New Member Induction Ceremony, while our own personal Fingers provided accompaniment.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/Fingers.jpg
Then, from the back of the room stumbled in Fletcher Hodges long, lost Irish Brother, Lecher O’Hodges to sing us his rendition of “The Thing”.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/LecherOHodges.jpg
It was then time for the Costume contest, presided over by Adventurers Club Permanent Members, Green and Simple

who voted the Best in Show to Emil Bleehall and Bessie the Heifer!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/BessieEmil.jpg
Then it was onto the Balderdash Cup competition, where we heard tales of attempts to liberate Scooter the Peacock from “D Street” to fixing airplanes with rubber bands. But this years winner was Liesl Schindler, with an oddly familiar tale of finding the lost continent of Atlantis while flying relief supplies to the victims of a cataclysmic earthquake in Krakatau, with well placed jabs from Prof. Otis T. Wren (a.k.a. “Right Guard” Ian).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/OtisTWrenOsaJohnson.jpg
The night continued with a performance of the “Sheik of Araby” from Green and Simple, more songs and tales and visits from Adventurers Club Permanent Member, Lancelot and the well known door host Kirk as well as another Emil Bleehall (a.k.a. “Right Guard” Ian).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/KirkEmilBleehall.jpg
Then we wrapped up yet another weekend of adventure with one last rendition of “The Adventurers Club All Purpose Theme Song”.
At the end of the day, the Adventurers Club is far from dead. It is alive and well in all of us, and we must continue to let Disney know that they will not hear the end of their egregious error of closing the greatest example of immersive entertainment that has ever existed, until they reopen it. Please Adventurers, continue writing letters and emails and one day we will all be able to enjoy a night of Adventure back inside of our beloved Club on the top of Hill St.
P.S. I had to include a picture of the back of “Right Guard’s” Emil sash. When asked how he put this one together he said, “Well, in the spirit of the old Bleehall tradition, my Mom made it!”

So, I was perusing a ton of old Disney News Magazines this weekend, and came upon some very interesting articles on the once proud Pleasure Island:
Disney News- Summer 1991
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/Page01-2.jpg
Disney News: Winter 1986
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/PleasureIslandPreviewDisneyNews-Win.jpg
These are terrific! I had no idea Basil and Rattigan were even ever considered as costumed characters! And the Rocketeer! Haha, this is great stuff!
"According to my friend who works for Disney they are considering adding the Adventurer's Club to the new Nightly Kingdom concept. To compete with Seaworld's highly successful high end Discovery Cove, Disney will offer an after hours park for quests willing to pay $200 plus . According to my friend, guests would check in at the new Adventure's Club before embarking on their paid adventure."
Ah, the long-rumored Night Kingdom (http://jimhillmedia.com/editor_in_chief1/b/jim_hill/archive/2008/02/15/night-kingdom-to-reimagine-the-disney-theme-park-going-experience.aspx). I'll believe in Night Kingdom when I am actually hand-feeding a hippo (which is, incidentally, the point in the article where I say, "get out.")
I just thought I should post this link here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VRFDbaEsd4
Someone recreated the whole place in video game version.
I've never spent a lot of time in the club itself but I think this is absofreakinglutely amazing....
Whoever did this really LOVE the place.
Enjoy!
That's amazing! Everyone should watch this as the attention to detail is mind-blowing.
No part of the shows in the Adventurers' Club and the Comedy Warehouse involve a view of the outside. Therefore either could be resurrected in a different location.
Alright, I'm quoting this one last because of an idea for a reincarnated Adventurer's Club that somebody kicked around on another message board and which I love:
Replace Restaurantosaurus (ugh) in Dinoland USA (ugh, ugh) with a new version of the Adventurer's Club. Make the decor and themeing more based upon the Cope and Marsh Bone Wars but keep the Kungaloosh. And very definitely involve Waterhouse Hawkins' unusual dining room (small illustration):

Peterson First Guides: Dinosaurs p. 73 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/babbletrish/6247064441/) by Babbletrish (http://www.flickr.com/people/babbletrish/), on Flickr
Thoughts? Personally, I love it because I tragically never got a chance to visit the AC. :guilty:

Kungaloosh Adventurers,
I know that I sent my letter off to the Great Pumpkin weeks ago asking for the Adventurers Club to reopen. We shall see if I've picked out the most sincere pumpkin patch in PA to wait for him this year. In the meantime, every year I look forward to recieveing "Right Guard's" Halloween and Christmas cards, and this year he did not dissapoint for the more spirited holiday!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/AnAdventurousHalloween.jpg
We here at the Adventurers Club would like to wish you all an Adventurous Halloween and share with you a song that Prof. Wren found while researching this ghoulish time of year. It appears (or at least Otis claims) that most holiday carols that we all know and love, were actually Halloween Carols that were stolen from Halloween! Among his “discoveries” comes this little gem. This song dates beck to the ancient Celts, circa pre Stonehenge, when apparently Halloween was celebrated for a dozen ghoulish nights (that's a lot of candy). This longer holiday period was an early druid marketing ploy and when it failed this wonderful song was up for grabs to any other fly by night holiday that happened to come along. And now for the quintessential Halloween song:
__________________________________________________ ________
The 12 Nights of Halloween
On the first night of Halloween,
a vampire gave to me:
a thirst for blood & immortality (Slurp, Ahh).
On the second night of Halloween,
a vampire gave to me:
2 puncture wounds (Aah!),
and a thirst for blood & immortality (Slurp, Ahh).
On the third night of Halloween,
a vampire gave to me:
3 Frenchmen's heads (Un, deux, trois!),
2 puncture wounds (Aah!),
and a thirst for blood & immortality. (Slurp, Ahh)
On the fourth night of Halloween,
a vampire gave to me:
Four oozing sores (Ah, Aah, Aaah, Aaaah!!!),
3 Frenchmen's heads (Un, deux, trois!),
2 puncture wounds (Aah!),
and a thirst for blood & immortality (Slurp. . .Ahh).
On the Fifth night of Halloween,
a vampire gave to me:
Maggots... In... My... Eyes!!! (Maggots! In my eyes!!! Aaaah!!! Aaaah).
__________________________________________________ ________
Unfortunately the rest of this Halloween Carol has been lost since Pamelia would not let us finish, and burned our only copy of the song. Oh well.
Happy Halloween and Kungaloosh,
Hathaway Browne, Emil Bleehall and Prof. Otis T. Wren
Also, he sent me a link to what appears to be The Pleasure Island Philharmonic back from the dead! Well, their percussion seciont anyway. Zom-Beat which has been exhumed for this Halloween season has much of the humorous styling and concert location of he great Pleasure Island Philharmonic! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeKIr6AmLkI, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNJ5Z2dGlXM
Here's to hoping that the Great Pumpkin will fly out of this pumpkin patch and reopen those hallowed doors this hallowed evening! If not, there's always time to write to that fat guy in a red suit and the white beard who goes, "Ho, ho, ho!"!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Posted today over at the Save the Adventurers Club Facebook group:
Congratulations to Joe Rohde for winning the Themed Entertainment Association, Buzz Price Thea Award in recognition for a lifetime of distinguished achievements! Be sure to drop by the Disney Parks blog and leave him a congratulatory message thanking him for his superb job of the Adventurers Club, considering Disney conveniently left that out of their post.

Looks like a new mailing campaign is in the works over at the "Save the Adventurers Club" Facebook group. Check this out:
Kungaloosh Adventurers,
So this past weekend as I was unpacking my adventurous Christmas decorations, I was listening to the MousePlanet Podcast from Thursday, October 2, 2008 “Kungaloosh! A Tribute to the Adventurers Club (with Bonus Audio track: An interview with Karl Anthony, Tim Goodwin and Andrea Canny!)”. (For those who wish to listen to this podcast please go here http://www.mouseplanet.com/8545/Kungaloosh_A_Tribute_to_the_Adventurers_Club_with_ Bonus_Audio_track). As the Podcast reached the point where Karl begins to talk about how the best course of action to get our Club back is to not give up and that the Executives need to be receiving handwritten letters weeks, months and even years after the closing to let them know how much the Club is missed, I came upon a long forgotten piece of Pleasure Island history. Ladies and Gentleman, I found a Pleasure Island Guest Survey from the early ‘90s!
Almost immediately a vision of the top Disney brass receiving hundreds, if not thousands of vintage Pleasure Island surveys popped into my head and I rushed to my scanner to begin working on a clean and easy to print out document to share with the Save the Adventurers Club and Save Pleasure Island communities to once again let Disney know what we truly want on the shores of Lake Buena Vista!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/George_Gracey/Adv%20Club/PleasuerIslandSurvey-YouveGotAPoint.jpg
(Please download the cleaned up PDF at http://www.mediafire.com/?9vb2vy0zsk6w9kz)
Please Adventurers, take a few minutes to apply this latest tool that Disney so kindly (and inadvertently) provided to us! For a more authentic feel, you may want to print on cardstock, but normal paper is fine as well. Also, if you find that you have run out of room in the comment section, feel free to continue on a seperate sheet of paper. While I am open to suggestions as to whom should be recieving these my suggestions are a core group of five:
Mr. Robert Iger
Chief Executive Officer
The Walt Disney Company
500 South Buena Vista Street
Burbank, CA 91521-4873
Thomas O. Staggs
Chairman
Walt Disney Parks & Resorts
C/O Team Disney Building
500 South Buena Vista St.
Burbank, CA 91521
John Lasseter
Chief Creative Officer
Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios
Pixar Animation Studios
1200 Park Avenue
Emeryville, CA 94608
Meg Crofton
President
President of Operations- US & France
PO Box 10040
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830
Keith Bradford
VP Downtown Disney
Walt Disney World Company
P.O. Box 10000
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830
I'm sure that why most of these names are on this list are self explanitory, but you may ask why John Lasseter. Well, 1. He was a jungle Cruise Skipper, so the man has a sense of humor and 2. He was reported to have been a huge Adventurers Club fan, and rumored to have offered to buy it from Disney to keep it open, but Disney refused, so he is at least one person that should be on our side. Well Adventurers, there is the new campaign I propose. We haven’t had a swell of mail filling the Disney executive boxes for about a year so now is the time to act again. The battle for Pleasure Island is far lost and may a handout from the past redirect it’s future!
So it looks like at one time there actually were surveys about the Island, and I'm sure these yielded an acurate assesment of how the public enjoyed Pleasure Island as opposed to the numbers that Disney made up saying that we wanted shopping and dining. Well, I know I'll be sending in this more accurate survey, how about you?

So, apparently last night Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular stage at M.G.M Studios was host to the Cast Member Service Award Banquet. and the Adventurers were on hand to perform! Here are the first pictures that have made their way to the "Save the Adventurers Club" Facbook Group. From the looks of the pictures, they had a Holiday Broadcast, since Beulah Belle has the mistletoe stick and Emil is wearing his Santa hat. Boy, I hope this means that New Years Eve midnight announcement is truely Adventurous!

I was soooo excited to see those pictures in the FB group last night! When I first heard about the NYE announcement, my first thought went to the AC BUT after hearing more about it, I really doubt that's what the big announcement will be. They are planning on making the announcement on Dick Clark's NYE show. Most people who watch that have no idea what the AC is, nor do they care so I don't think that's they would choose that as the platform for such an announcement. I'm not saying they WON'T bring it back. I have been hopeful they will for some time, but I just don't think it will during THAT particular announcement.

Kungaloosh Adventurers,
Well, today we have two Disney Park Blogs to post on! Number one, let us all go and congratulate the Disney Beverage Program for receiving Cheers Magazine’s 2012 “Cheers Beverage Excellence Awards” and also the 2012 VIBE VISTA Award for “Best Wine Program”. Let's all post them a message and tell them how much we enjoy their "Kungaloosh", "Hoopla", "Gypsy Moth", "Funmeister", etc. A short list of your favorites may be found here: http://advclub.wikia.com/wiki/Signature_drinks

Kungaloosh Adventurers,
Well, here we are, another Christmas Eve and yet another year that I wish that we could all gather in in the Main Salon at midnight to hear our favorite people recite "Twas the Night Before Christmas". Well, once again to simulate the experience, here is the only other YouTube recording that I have ever seen of this very event! So, prepaire your favorite beverage, be it egg nog, wassail or a frost Kungaloosh, press play, and let us all dream and wish that next year at this time that we will all be in the Main Salon together again, one big, adventurous family.

Merry Christmas and Kungaloosh!
P.S. Shooting off a few more letters and some of those Pleasure Island surveys to the Executives couldn't hurt either!

Kungaloosh Adventurers,
So the Disney Parks Blog has once again provided us with a great pictoral reminder of what we are still fighting to bring back.

I just want to remind everyone that the return of our Club, as long as we all continue remind Disney that there is the demand, is still a very real possibility. Please follow this link to the Disney Park Blog and leave a comment on how badly Pleasure Island's nightlife is missed (particularly our beloved Adventurers Club). Allso, please take some time to shoot off a couple of those PI Surveys to the Executives. With any luck, at this time in 2012, we will all be back in the Main Salon welcoming in 1937 once again!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Some days the mouse eats you.
But the Club still stands and hope remains!
