View Full Version : Upgrading the FW pool?

I'm curious about something and I figured this is the place to ask...

I heard Disney has plans to upgrade the FW pool to a more elaborate, themed pool. Is this true or is it just another Disney rumor? If it's true, does anyone know when the work will start and when it is supposed to be finished?

I tried to search for the answer myself but you know how the DIS search function can be ;)

Thanks :goodvibes

From what I see at this point it's still rumor,,but hey,,you never know with Disney.
If they think it'll help to squeeze another dollar out of you,, it's possible.

But thats just my opinion.

The other thing that's long gone is the chuck wagon that used to drive all the loops in the morning. You could buy milk, cereal, eggs, bacon, sausage, sugar, ground coffee, donuts, pastries & the morning newspaper. IIRC, that ran for about 5-6 years when FtW was still "young". It sounded an "ah-ooo-gah" horn as it entered the loop to let you know the delivery truck was on it's way.

Before the peacocks, there were roosters free-roaming the Fort.

Debbie,
I envy you for having been able to experience the fort in it's early days. Definitely sounds like it was full of neat things to see and do. I wish I had been there when the train was running at the campground - that would have been awesome to see. I've only been camping at the Fort for about 7 years so I missed seeing all of the great things in the past.

Of course not sure if it is true, but on Satuday as we were checking out I asked again about premium sites and was told again that they would be sites within loop not entire loop and that 100-300 would still be preferred.
He also mentioned that the pool would be redone in January and February 2009, it seems to me that 2 months is not long enough for all that work, but what do I know....

The pool rehab has been floating around for a couple of years now. Until I see the fence and the backhoe its just a rumor.
I am looking forward to being able to use the pool at Wilderness lodge during the work....... :cool1:

I called the GC rental place and was told by the manager that they were going to begin (or finished in I can't remember which) the pool remodel in Jan 09. :cheer2: A different CM said something about a fountain; which I took to mean something like ASMo. They didn't say anything about a slide but we can still hope. ;)

Unfortunate, no - it was taken 25 years ago. It was probably in the same loop we camped in, and I have a photo of the site, taken just as we arrived, but it does not show the site number anywhere.

GREAT old pics !!!
Was it noisey in the Fort with the train running all the time ?
Was the train more of a convenience for the campers or more of a enjoyment ride ?
Was there only one train or more than one train on the tracks ?

I remember the train as being for fun mostly, and I don't remember it being noisy in an unpleasant way. Of course, I don't remember it being hot and humid either - when we were there in August  .

Thanks so much for sharing your photos! It's funny to see the pine trees SO small! It looks like there were a lot of native plants, trees and palms back then and NO potato vine! I'm hoping once all of the clearing is done at the Fort....they plant some more native plants and some of that pretty green St Augustine grass!!!:thumbsup2

Has anyone mentioned the tram that used to pick you up at your site? It was so much nicer than the buses!!!

Wow those are really great photos!
I had a couple of questions that seem to fit this thread.

Do they really only have ONE pool at FW?

Do they still have a "beach" type area or is that gone too?

I'm basically trying to figure out if the only way to cool off or swim is at ONE pool at FW and that's it?

There is 1 pool in the camping area and 1 pool in the cabin area.
There is still a beach, no swimming in the lake anymore.

The train was fun, but you could have crawled faster!
