OK, so I have airfare for my trip next week booked through Southwest, so I can cancel my flights and get credit for the money to be used within the next year (which I would use for sure). I love roadtrips, and am thinking about hopping in the car a day or two early and driving down. My daughter and niece are both up for an adventure and I think it would be fun to show the kids the country. I have AAA (in case of any car trouble), and I drive a Toyota Yaris (40 mpg highway) which is only a year old, so I am not really too worried about anything going wrong. I used to live in NC, and made the drive many many times, so I know the first leg of the trip like the back of my hand already.
Am I completely crazy? Should I grasp the chance for mother/daughter/niece bonding? Opinions? Comments?

Well, I am not going to give you my opinion on driving it :):) However if you are taking 95 straight down let me know and maybe you can make your stop in Richmond or Emporia for lunch and I will meet up with you... I will tell you tho its a very long drive.....but you know that already....

LOL I do realize it would be a crazy long drive, I would definitely break it up into two days. My route wouldn't put me on 95 until South Carolina though :(. I will take a rain check for that lunch though :goodvibes I like food. :goodvibes

A woman of many talents!!! lol
Tawney just reminded me that we have US/IOA tickets from the trip we cancelled earlier this year. With a car, that would be do-able, especially if I leave a day early, and book one night at POP at the start of the trip.
Oh boy, I am really talking myself into this now!! LOL

Well, if you do please be careful...I know you are older than he is but for some reason I always see you as I do Genesis, and I tremble like Cleo in a thunderstorm everytime he goes on long road trips. Thats the only part of his life I ever worry about, and I am so not a mother hen with him, he's always been free to do his own things and make his own mistakes but something about him and driving just terrifies me, I think it goes back to the trauma of coming upon his accident where he totalled his firebird...all I saw was OMG that is my sons car or what is left of it, he had been run over by a 4x4 truck..I didnt see him, I just saw the car...as a mother you can imagine..and I think I have never gotten past that so PLEASE TRACY, be careful.....

Personally, I would take a classic, all-American road trip over flying anyday. Flying can be much quicker and more efficient as far as timing, but nothing competes with the open road.
Just do be careful and have a fun trip.

I've driven a couple times with just me and my 3 kids and lived to tell about it :lmao:
Honestly, I just make sure they have things to do, movies to watch, snacks and drinks, and we are good. I'm lucky they are very patient. I have never had a problem being the only driver at all.

Good to hear!! The kids are 10 and 15, and they are pretty good about not fighting. We went today and got all kinds of stuff for them to do in the car. I am burning a bunch of cd's right now to keep myself with plenty of music for the drive. Give me some iced coffee and good music and I can drive forever! LOL

Tracy have an awesome trip
Its funny this week I decided for our Oct trip that I am going to drive. I think its a great bonding experience and my daughter and I need that right now. It will be my frist time driving. But I figure if you plan plenty of time then what can go wrong.
Good Luck have an awesome time! Let me know how it works out!

Ya know Carrie, it is funny but the part I am looking forward to most is the bonding with the kids. I helped raised my niece until she was about 12, and the past few years, she has kind of been so "teenagery" that I feel like I hardly know her anymore. I am the closest thing to a mom that she has and I think she needs some time with me, as much as I want some time with her. And my Tawney is almost 11 now, and will be hitting the teenager sighs and mutterings very very soon, so I would like a final long road trip with her before "grows up" too much to truly enjoy it. Then I will be waiting until she is 15 like I had to with Tiffany...lol.
Three girls.
Two days on the open road.
Destination: Disney World.
:hyper:(Tawney) :wave2:(Tiffany):drive: (Tracy)

My family almost always drove from Cleveland as I was growing up.. we went every year to see family and do Disney. The road trips are part of my best memories.... in fact, by choice, the next time I go I'll do a road trip. There is so much to see and do along the way if you aren't crunched for time.. plus it's an awsome bonding time and planning cute things for the girls to do along the way is a big part of the fun!
I say go for it and have a BLAST! :thumbsup2

Thanks Cin, I already have some little surprise stops for the girls. They have never seen the ocean, so we will be stopping at the beach for a little while, and of course we get to drive through the mountains in West Virginia, and there are a few fun things to do in North Carolina where I used to live. So it is going to be a great time:goodvibes
