I do believe it was Aug. 15 in 2007. In 2008 it was Aug. 25 if I remember correctly. The Disney site is showing no availablity in the Deluxe resorts the 2nd week in Dec. I was hoping to change my AAA rate to an AP rate. Keeping my fingers crossed.

or can I make the reservation and purchase the AP when we go in December?
I have reservation now at rack rate and am hoping for discount. There was no AAA discount available when it was made. We plan another trip in the next 12 months, so thought we would get the AP, if we could get the room discount, too.
Would we be able to get the dining plan added if we have an AP?

I wish this had worked for us in July!! I reserved @ rack rate before buying AP onsite on arrival (before check-in), couldn't get AP discount at the desk as the reservations CM had told me I could. They told us we would have to have made the reservation with AP already purchased to get the discount, despite what Disney reservations had said. :confused3

Does anyone know if the AP rate is room only? And whether AP or DIsney VISA rate is better?
Also...can you use it for split stays? I've got 9 days at POP, 6 at POR and 8 at CBR with a AAA discount, but hoping for better!

Sorry.
I called Disney, reserved room @rack rate. Bought AP same phone call.
CM told me the AP discount could be applied "retroactively" once I was there.
I picked up AP and activated it before check-in just in case
CM at check-in told me I would have to have had an active AP at the time of reservation to get the AP discount.
I'm not sure who was/is right. It's frustrating to get different answers whether Disney or everyday life.

That's a shame. It is my understaning that you should have been able to apply the AP rate over the phone (if one was available) and only needed to show an AP at the time of check in. It sounds like they were BOTH wrong.

sorry, but the above statement is wrong, you can get the AP rate once it becomes available even if you do not have the AP as of yet. as long as you have it at check in! I always book without it and get it when there. 25 plus times:confused3
so even booking at rack rate when they are released, which the date has not been released as of yet, then you can call and have them change ressies over to the AP rate...IF they have your resort available, you may have to make a change if it is not.

Last april, I booked AP rate witout an active AP. On the phone, they tried to convince me to buy right away but I refused. I told them I would buy when I get there.
When I checked in, I told them I would buy it just after I get my room and this was fine with them.

I have done this several times also. a few times I had it in voucher form and did not activate it for two days. Then I have bought 3 days after being there. so it should not be a issue at all!

Yes, AP holders can add the dining plan to any room-only stay (it then becomes a "package" that much be paid of 45 days in advance, but you still get the AP discount on the room itself - DP is the same price for everyone.)
Is it only for delux resorts or can you get an AP discount at a moderate resort?
AP discounts are generally available for all room classes - Value, Moderate, and some Deluxes (but not all Deluxes sometimes).
Does anyone know if the AP rate is room only? And whether AP or DIsney VISA rate is better?
Also...can you use it for split stays? I've got 9 days at POP, 6 at POR and 8 at CBR with a AAA discount, but hoping for better!
AP rates are room only; DP would be regular price and tickets... well, you don't need 'em. :) Yes, you should be able to use it for a split stay - Disney doesn't call them split stays, they are just two separate reservations. As long as there are rooms in both resorts at a discounted rate you can do the "split stay".
Also, if you really want to make sure you are ok on the reservation ahead of time, you can always purchase one AP voucher ahead of time from a Disney Store and have that with you when you make the reservation and then get how ever many other APs you need once you arrive at WDW.

You would need the AP at check in. However, it depends on the CM. On occasion I haven't needed to show my AP. You can now get the DDP added on your reservation. You would have to call in to have it added to your reservation. Then it's considered a package.

Yes, as long as that category is included in the code, not all categories are always available, it probably depends on what is already booked.

That one I don't know the answer to. I usually get my info here. I don't get up early to call for a discount, because I have never had trouble getting one before, so I just wait and look here for confirmation. My AAA TA is on code wathc for me this year, the only one I have found that does that.

If this continues, I am not going to renew my AP! I had just postponed a trip for Aug 25th, the rates for then also sucked!
I have no clue what is going on with Disney, but after 25 trips down, I just may not renew my pass!

Had to laugh when the CM says..."How did all of you people hear about the AP rates coming out today...we just opened and our lines are going crazy with people asking about the new AP rates".
Like others have pointed out, it doesn't look like they blocked off any rooms for AP rates only. There is the same lack of availability in the first half of December. As for my current reservation, my bounceback offer was cheaper since the rates were the same for the weekdays and the weekend.
They did quote me $99 (before tax) for a moderate during the weekdays for the first week of December and higher on the weekend. What was strange is the weekday rate during the second week of December was coming up as $119 (before tax).

For our December 5-10 trip she said we already had the passholder rate (booked back in May, yeah, right...) for our 5 nights at POR - somewhere around the rack rate of $165 per night based on the total package cost, which is no discount at all...
We're going to try back later and hope for a different CM - she tried to tell me the AP rate for our November trip would be higher than what we already have booked at AS Music (currently $111 per night).

Well, base rack rates are around $165, plus the preferred room charge - your package is around $157.50 per night (I assume your total included tax?) If so, you are saving all of the preferred cost and a little off the basic room cost itself, so it isn't a "bad" deal... but it ain't $105 per night like they put out last year...

it actually costs a little more per night (we had been booked under a PIN, but had no dining, but travelling with in-laws who are on the plan, so it just made sense to add it), but the total now comes to 879.90
Be careful that they don't add the insurance in there if you don't need it. The CM just added it in and it wasn't til i questioned it that it that she mentioned it......

I had movies booked for Dec 5-6 th. To use my AP I had to switch to Sports.
It saved $65 dollars...
We then go back to Movies preferred with 40% off until Dec 15th and then %40% off for POFQ. I wish we could have gotten one resort/one room all the away across the boards, but it wasn't available with the code or AP...
Well, I definitely saved and should be happy with what I got!

We have reservations for Dec. 3 - 11 staying at Pop Century. I called & was told only the Cabins were available with the AP rate for our time frame. Unbelievable!! Last Dec. we paid $49 a night at Pop. We are also going the end of this month with 2 grandchildren & couldn't get the AP rate!! We do have $65 rate with AAA - so guess that we will be happy getting that!!

well, breaking out the room only portion of a quote the CM gave me for a non-preferred AP package at POP, it seems like the AP rate during our time frame was about 66 something, so it wouldn't have been a *huge* savings. (if that makes you feel better!)
we *were* able to get the AP rate starting on the 12th -- it's not that it was so great, esp compared to the PIN we had had, it's that we could finally add dining without having to pay the rack rate!

They've updated the pass holder section of the website with some of the details but there are restrictions on number of nights for Fri/Sat arrivals and a lot of blackout dates. The also only have listings for Values and Deluxe Villas - no mention of Mods at all. (The only Mod that shows up for a discounted rate in the booking area for our dates is CBR - would save us $300 but we've stayed there twice already... we'll just stick with POR and hope they maybe extend the discount there at some point...)

I think I might be confused, I was under the impression that the only way you could book the dining plan with an AP was to purchase a one day ticket, has this changed? I have always wanted to buy AP's but it has never been cost effective for us with purchasing the DP and the one day tickets as well, could someone please help me out and answer this for me. I would just call CRO but it seems like everytime I try to call them I get information that I know is absolutely wrong so I thought I would ask my fellow Disers first.
TIA

The details do not mention moderates, but if you go in and use the Book your Stay link, Moderates ARE included.
I was able to get Port Orleans Riverside for $129 a night for Oct. 16-19. Regular room rate was $165 a night I believe.
So just because it is not mentioned doesn't mean it is not available.

Yes, that answered a lot of questions!! I just checked it! It's completely blocked out for 12/4 through 12/12. NO AP RATES AT ALL!!!!! My dates are 12/5-9. Oh well. I'm still going!!!!!

I just called back for Haha's
Still nothing available for the Polynesian. Not even for concierge. :sad2: DF said we'll still pay rack rate since it's for our honeymoon. But, still ouch at the rack rate for a Garden View room. :headache:
I had movies booked for Dec 5-6 th. To use my AP I had to switch to Sports.
It saved $65 dollars...
We then go back to Movies preferred with 40% off until Dec 15th and then %40% off for POFQ. I wish we could have gotten one resort/one room all the away across the boards, but it wasn't available with the code or AP...
Well, I definitely saved and should be happy with what I got!

i know when we went in 2007 with our AP, we would make our ressie w/the ap code but we never had to show our AP @ ck in (6 times) but here's my question: we are going in feb. and we have myw tickets left over that we want to upgrade to an AP. so, when we ck in we will not have our ap. don't we have to go to the ticket booth at the parks to have these upgraded?
Help!!

So, I had to actually come to the Dis this morning to find out AP rates were out (for some reason, my thread subscription is not reaching my inbox!).
Anyway, I call for Dec. 5-7 (we need a place to stay for the weekend before AKLV). I didn't even ask about values since Pop is booked up already at rack rates. The very nice CM told me there was only CSR suites at around $600ish and a three-bedroom at OKW for well over $2,000. Ummm, yeah. She said occupancy that weekend is up like crazy over last year, but she thinks it was because of the parade taping at MK. I told her I wish everyone would stop discovering my secret of going to WDW in December!
So, I used an AP voucher and got online just now. Remember, my dates are in "black-out dates" for AP rates. I see AS Sports for $54 per night. dang! So, I booked it. It goes against my "I dislike All Stars and will never stay there again" stance on life (especially during Pop Warner), but that's a deal to me and I just can't pass up a deal! I figure I'll just be sleeping there for two nights, right?
Booked it and hoping maybe some other resorts leak between now and December!

That changed this year. In fact I am already booked at the CR NEXT year with an AP plus DxDDP (although my rate is rack rate now since it is way to early to know if there will even be an AP rate then)

Thanks!!! I wish I had paid closer attention, I could have saved money on my last trip in May!! I called CRO and this is going to save me close to $400 and that is with buying Ap's which to me is a savings in and of itself because next trip we will only be paying for the room and the dining plan. Yeah me!! I really feel like an a-hole for not knowing this for my last trip though, I am really kicking myself now, but you live and you learn. Thanks again.

You probably wouldn't have saved in May, I don't believe the change took affect until after that. We went in June and it wasn't avail then, but was avail for my Aug trip, but since we will only be there for the weekend, it made no sense since we won't be spekding that much on food then.
It did save me a ton on my December trip though.

Ok, so maybe I won't have to dwell on it now, it always peeves me when I find out I could have saved some money somewhere and paid full price without knowing about it.

I was wondering if someone who had access to the AP website would tell me if there are any AP discounted rooms available for Thanksgiving weekend 28-30? I'm guessing there probably aren't and I really can't call right now..... if anyone is willing to look for me, I would be very appreciative!!!!

Thankyou! Thankyou! Thankyou!
I am most interested in WL, AKL, POR/POFQ or ASM. But really curious if there is anything coming up at decent rates (more than what we'd get with AAA).
Thanks again!

I looked at Pop and it is $121/night. Those are blacked out dates. The actual dates are 9/28-11/25, 11/30-12/03, and 12/13-12/23/2008

Thanks again! DS#1 just got confirmation back on switching from AAA rate to AP rate and his reservation for POR 12/13 - 12/23 dropped by $512.20!!!!! Since he's getting married at Disney on 12/15, that's a big help for extra wedding goodies!!!! Thank you everyone!
