Animal Kingdom Swap Sign-Ups
Due date is October 15th (that is when I need to receive your package). Please mail packages out by October 8th.
If you are new to swapping with us please start with 2 groups


Photos: Most are in order by group but the wildlife express ended up at the end instead of in group 1.

1. Choose a spot that hasn’t been chosen by anyone else. You will be making a Topper and 2 elements for your spot.
2. PM me with your DIS name, name, home address, email address, and phone numbers. Email and phone numbers will only be used to follow up if I have not heard from you.
3. Post your weekly status on the Progress thread - which will be posted after the slots are filled. YOU MUST CHECK IN 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE DUE DATE. IF NOT A PM/EMAIL WILL BE SENT AND IF YOU DO NOT RESPOND IN 48 HOURS, YOUR SPOT WILL BE ANGELED.
4. Check the progress thread for your status - it will be updated with ship info and received info.
5. Packing Instructions - use a Ziploc for each person and put everything for that person into their bag. Please label each bag with your name so we know who made each set. Please put each groups bags into a larger bag (1 gallon size). – Please be sure to include your name, your DIS name, and the group name/number on the large bag. Include $4.60 for envelopes or $8.95 for boxes for flat-rate postage (or stamps if you don't want to send cash) to return your items. Delivery Confirmation is $0.65. If you are in more than 3 groups you must send money for a box- It will probably not fit in an envelope. PLEASE DON’T SEND METERED OR CLICK-IT/SHIP-IT POSTAGE SOME HOSTESS HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THIS.
6. PM me if you have problems and need to drop out or if an emergency happens (we all know things happen beyond our control sometimes), let me know so we can make arrangements for an angel or other help if needed.
7. HAVE FUN!!

NO hand written lettering on ANY items. Please use computer fonts, rub-ons, or stamps.
NOTE: Embellished means using brads, eyelets, inking, stickles, charms, ribbon/fiber, 3D stickers (matted stickers/clipart are okay too) or embossing.

Element Choices:
1 Topper- 8 in by 2 in- must be double matted and embellished
2 Borders – 12” that can be cut down to 11”
2 Journaling Boxes- at least a 3x3 writing area, double matted and embellished with actual journal area placed on top of the two mats
4 Embellished Squares – largest mat should be no larger than 2”
2 Photo Frames (embellished) – for a 4x6 photo & the Sizzix dies are ok (you need to crop a bit from the photo to use these) Two layers on the frame would make the photo seem double matted.
2 Photo Mats (embellished) – for a 4x6 photo without cropping; Again, two layers as the photo sits on top of these
2 Tags: no smaller than 2 x 3 and larger is fine, double matted and embellished, include either ribbon/fiber or eyelet/brad in the hole. May include both- note: ribbon/eyelet in hole is not the embellishment on the tag
2 Slide Mounts – cardstock or actual slide mounts; must be embellished but not double matted & the Sizzix dies are fine
1 Box ‘n Tag – one journal box with a matching tag (see details above)
1 Mini File Folder or matchbox– embellished but need not be double matted. Please make sure to enclose a blank page in the matchbook if this is the element you choose to do.
1 Library Pocket & Tag - embellished but need not be double matted Library Pocket and Tag: embellished, no smaller than to hold 2x3 a tag that should have ribbon/fiber or eyelet in the hole
Poem/Lyric/Quote – text area must be no smaller than 2½ x 3½ (no handwriting)

It's not my favorite park. The boys don't like shows, so I don't get to see any of those. And it is just soo hot there. Feels like 10 degrees more than any other park. I think I got heat exhaustion the day I was there. I was too sick the next morning for our Chef Mickey ADR and just canceled it. If I was touring it alone, I might like it better.
I have us down for one day for sure and then all the other schedule days have a back up plan in case they don't want to go back. :thumbsup2

AK is one of my favorite parks!! But, I love anything to do with animals, so that's why. The problem I have is that almost all of my pictures from AK are of the animals. We spend most of our time on the trails or Safari. We always do Everest and sometimes we'll see one of the shows, but it's mostly the animals. We get to the park at opening and spend the morning there and leave around noon before it gets too hot.

Oh you should try to. I've done it a few times and it's great to explore on your own for a bit. I wouldn't want to spend the whole day in a park by myself, kind of lonesome and nobody to share with, but a couple of hours is great. My guys have been ready to leave a park before I am, so they'll head on back to the hotel to swim or go to the movies at DTD and I'll stay at the park and do some of my own exploring, take photos of just stuff in the park without any grumbling about stopping again or look in all the shops I never get to go in because they hate shopping. It's a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

AK has really grown on me over the years. It used to be a half-day park, now it's a full-day park. Granted, before I got my kitty, I hated animals. Why would I want to walk around and look at them? The first trip after having my cat was like a whole new world. I appreciated the animals so much more.

It's still a half-day park for me - and I have always loved animals. :rotfl: But it has the BEST show in all the parks - Finding Nemo, the Musical, and the BEST ride in all the parks - Expedition Everest. So I pretty much run over there in the morning to ride EE, stay a while to eat at Tusker House (yum), and then catch Nemo. Great way to spend a morning!

But isn't owning a kitty a great thing?!? Dogs are great and all (I've had dogs my whole life - and wish I had the lifestyle for another dog now), but cats are just spectacular to own - nothing like a little purr to say how much they love you. :lovestruc

Don't get me started on how much I love my cat! I'm like a reformed smoker. I really HATED animals before (and now I feel really guilty about that!) and my DH always teases me about how radically I changed when I fell head over heels in love with the "surprise" he brought home. I never would have agreed to get one if he had asked me ahead of time. Turns out it was the best thing he ever did!
I think I would appreciate dogs now too - it's not like I'm pro-cat, anti-dog, but like you, we couldn't have one with our work schedule. Maybe someday. Lucky would probably be okay with a dog because he doesn't know he's a cat (thinks he's a person). But another cat is out of the question. He hates cats!

I grouped them into that group because they were an animal experience (you walk along the trail and see animals and the tree). That doesn't mean you have to use animals in your design- just things/colors that fit that area.

I know this is still the sign-up thread but had a question about requirements - (I'm already working on this swap!) - does the title/topper have to say the actual name of the ride or place? For example, I am doing Wildlife Express. I am going with a whole train theme, but wanted the topper to say "All Aboard". I was looking at last year's swap and saw people did "Jambo" and other sayings? Just wondering what the rules are here? I'll do whatever you think. Thanks!

I hope this ok but instead of going for the Tree of Life theme for DIT I did kind of a Discovery/Indy feel/theme including the colors. When we went in June in was more about the discovery/adventure than the Tree.
Is that ok with everyone? I was originally going to focus on Maccaw colors but ended up more Indy, and yes the topper is Indy lettering. I'll post when I get embellies on.

The adventure begins is in front of it. All the others are throughout the park- many of them vary a little bit based on where they have available. Steve Soars Entertainment Site lists them and where they are located. I don't have it handy here at my sister's but I can get it when I get home or you can find it somewhere in the attractions or a link from allears or just google it.

Have you looked for clip art of a magnifying glass? You can print it out, cut it like a sticker, and then either pop-dot it or glue it on.

There might even be a Disney-themed clip are on a website - not sure, but will keep an eye out for it.

Good luck with Ike. I always feel bad at this time because I'm sitting here in West Florida hoping the hurricane doesn't come here, but if it doesn't come here, it's got to go somewhere - and then I feel bad that I wished it on someone else. Oh, and I totally feel you about the weather forecasters - thankfully over here, they don't really do constant updates and interrupt shows. But in Miami, when the hurricane/storm is three days away, they will start the 24 hour updates and then no more TV shows! UGH! They're the ones that create the panic you see at the stores and such. Keep dry and safe!

I have a neice that was in Andrew and a neice who still lives in LA and survived Katrina and all her since coming relatives! She was in Gustav and only had fence damage!

Thanks! Divine was a great project yesterday. I saw her for the first time in July and she is AMAZING. As a gardener and artistic type, she is not to be missed. I got a great start on DinoLand too, topper is done, I just need to figure out embellishments for my element.

It's been 24/7 weather since Wed or Thurs. It's been constant, so it's all run together. So far everything is ok, knock on wood. But it's on top of us as a Cat 1. Thanks to everyone for their good thoughts!

Bookmarks are generally 6 by 2 inches long and quote boxes normally have a quote no smaller than about 3 by 3. They do get double matted and embellished and each is one element. Don't worry about it.

The paper is from OTC-they have a educational section as well. I even calle dto make sure the paper was safe and they told me it was. Fingers crossed!
They also had animals and Asian and I think some others. I bought 2 packs to make sure I had enough.

That sounds fine- the only problem with the paper will be for anyone who does not send money for a box. They won't fit in an envelope. Just so people in this group know. Many of them have a few groups anyway as well as being in the Universal Swap and should be using a box anyway. If they don't I will contact them and either cut down the paper or send any leftovers back to you. If the paper is smaller than 8.5 by 11 it will fit- I don't know the kind of paper so I am just assuming it is 12 by 12.

If the paper is 8.5 by 11 then it will fit in an envelope as easily as a box. When you send it just send the larger paper in 1 bag and I will seperate it and put it in the boxes for each person instead of adding it in your group baggies.

I have just heard from Susie that she won't be able to get these to me due to a variety of circumstances. I am looking at her groups and deciding what to do.

Group A- Everest- I will do this using some files I made a couple of years ago- i still have all the supplies left for this one.

Group B- General Animals-
I don't have any animal paper at the moment. Would everyone be okay if I choose some of the animals around the park and make paper piecings of 3 of them. I will base it on which ones I have filles made for and paper for- I may use my Animal Kingdom cricut cartridge or my craftrobo.

Group C- Shows
I have 3 finding Nemo set ready from another swap in which my things were returned due to those that didn't finish things. I will use those along with the adveture begins things I already have. If you really want one or the other please pm me and i will do what i can but I won't promise anything. I will finish off the group with Adventure Begins things from Group D.

Group F- Camp Minni Mickey- not sure what i will do yet- I may change and do the Oasis or Discovery Island- I know I have files for Discovery Island as I have done it before.

Group H- Boneyard- I will angel these using the cricut and my various dog carts and such

It will take me the rest of the week to finish these things up and I will have to go into town to get some supplies in order to do them all. If you would rather me mail these back on Monday and not angel I will need to know asap so I don't angel things for you but just send back the extra you made. I should be ready to mail these by the middle of next week but will let you know what is happening.

I have done a Don't feed the Animals topper for group B along with a cool frame with animals on it to slip a photo into it. I will do an amial pp from my AK cart for a third item and do 1 more photo mat or box.

For the Lands group: I got some great paper today and I am going to do a topper and mat and boxes- more general with flowers and leaves so if you haven't taken many photos there you could use them throughout the park.

Group H- Boneyard- I am doing a topper and then I am not sure- probably things with bones on it a combination of boxes/frames/mats/squares- that way I can use them for my puppy instead of at AK.

I have a couple of swappers who are angelling a few groups in the Universal Swap over the weekend before mailing these but they should be out in the mail to you by the end of next week.

I have finished the Oasis for the lands group. I did 2 tags, a mat, a topper, and a small paper piecing (a macaw).

I have the general animals just about finished. I did a military macaw paper piecing and worked on 2 squares this morning. I used setencils and a raised embossing medium (it is like frosting) to put a lion and an elephant on squares but I am waiting for them to dry to attach them to the outer border and add on eyes with marker or stickles.

I have not worked on boneyard yet but plan to spend some time on it this afternoon.

If you are in the group and would like me to make this to send to you (and don't mind waiting a week for your package pm or post). I will be finishing up some of the Universal stuff before cutting and putting together these. if you would rather just get one of your own back that is fine too and I will mail it out with the other on Monday or Tuesday. This applies to MissesDisney (box will be held until Universal swap is done anyway- maybe longer depending on when things all arrive and your vacation), MinniGarden, and Eeyore1017 (whose box is being held till the Universal things are finished also).
