I am in.....

08-04-2008, 08:08 PM
Ok..so some background. Dh and I met in 1989 when I was in high school and he was a paramedic with the local fire department. We broke up but got back together in 1997. Had DD in 1998 and have lived together since 2002.

We finally (as my mother would say) got married on August 3, 2007. I had already convinced DH to go on my next Disney Cruise with several friends. WB suggested that we have a vow renewal on the ship. I never thought DH would go for this as he isn’t THAT into Disney but surprisingly…he agreed!! WOO HOO!! We did a simple courthouse ceremony and the planning began:

We had a back to back (B2B) booked for July 20th and July 24th on the Wonder.. I contacted Disney Fairy Tale Weddings to see if the VR would be available. I was estatic when Cathy told me July 25th, a Friday was available and booked it!!

SO…..11 months to go..so much planning!! Oh..I neglected to mention that in April 2007, I started my first SERIOUS diet. I will just admit it..after DD and many abdominal surgeries, I had ballooned to over 225.
I decided that I didn’t want to be like that anymore..By our wedding date in August, I had lost about 20lbs. I had tried on the dress that would eventually be my VR dress and the size 16 would not even ZIP!! I knew that I wanted that dress so I made it my goal..to fit into that dress!!

Coming up...

more surgery!!!!

08-04-2008, 08:32 PM
The months ticked by and planning was slow. DFTW’s really don’t need to contact you till about 90 days before your sail date. In January 2008 I had yet another surgery..I had lost about 50lbs at this point and was scared that this surgery would make me fall off track. Luckily, everything went great and I stayed on the plan!

February came and I ordered my dress!! I tried on the 16 that didn’t zip the previous summer and it zipped!! Not only that..it was a perfect fit!! I wanted to order the size 14 knowing that I was doing so good with my diet, but it made me nervous..what if I didn’t continue to lose..or (horrors!!) I gained!!!

By March, Cathy sent me the VR packet for me to make my selections..what to do?? I knew I wanted to have the ceremony on the “Secret” Deck 7 Aft instead of inside the Cadillac Lounge
(I mean..I was on a CRUISE!! I wanted to be outdoors!!) and to try and get “The Palo Room” for dinner immediately after the VR. Cathy wasn’t sure about the number of people. They have a limit on the number of people on deck. She also had to try and get the Palo Room..many hours were sweated over that..I had to have a minimum of 12 but a max of 14!! THHENN..I threw a big wrench in the mix by asking for….

Coming up….THE DRESS IS IN!!!

08-04-2008, 09:06 PM
Yea, it's about time Betsy!!! I cannot believe that is you in those pics. You look fantastic.

08-04-2008, 10:03 PM
April came and Alfred Angelo called..the dress was in!! WOOHOO!! I had also ordered a dress for DD..that was not in. My favorite color is green so my bridesmaids got dresses that were “grass green” and my friend Ophie (who got married in June 2007, went with me to all my bridal appointments) and we thought a pale mint green would set DD apart from the other girls and make her special. Her dress was also tiered like mine.
My Dress!!

I had continued to lose weight, so the dress was little loose when I tried it on! My biggest problem at this point was shoes…I could not find a pair that looked right with the dress..the pair here were ordered from Target but not only were they ‘off white’ compared to the dress..they just didn’t GO with the dress!! Oh!! The power of SHOES!!!

Back to my Palo Room request. Cathy got the room for us and I was estatic..this would allow all my friend to sit down together at one table and have a “reception”. Since the VR was at 5:30pm in Nassau, we would be sitting in Palo with a perfect view of our sail out of Nassau..I imagined it would be very romantic and very beautiful!
Cake problems... VR’s are usually done with a cake and champagne toast immediately afterwards. Since I wanted to have dinner in Palo after the VR it seemed silly to have cake and a toast on deck and then take the cake down and move it. Cathy informed me that they could not move the cake after cutting for some health reason. They would just cut the cake in the kitchen and bring it out…UMMM NO!!! I have been waiting for a cake cutting for 38 years..I wanted that!!
Hhhmmm..this seemed really dumb. This is also where I learned, never be afraid to ASK!! Between many emails with the Palo Manager and Cathy..I finally got approval to have the cake set up and cut in the Palo Room!!

Let them eat CAKE!!

In May, I had my first fitting. At this point I was 60lbs less..she took 2” in under each arm and down the waist. I also purchased a fingertip veil from Michaels to attach to the comb that I purchased at Michaels for our original wedding..it matched the dress perfect! Still no shoes..I even debated those beaded thongs for my feet..but I was afraid the deck would be too hot to walk on…

I had to make a heavy decision ..I would not be using the Photographer. I could not see spending $399 for pictures when I was going to have so many friends with high end cameras and HD video recorders. I also picked my music..Disney songs A dream is a wish, So this is love…but I felt like we needed something else.

June swept in and I got many emails from Cathy every week…I had request Palo add something “almond” to the cake and the chocolate sauce to drizzle over the cut cake..and was it possible to get pale green icing?
Rapid request and response flew over the internet…then..an odd request..if I got some sheet music..could the pianist learn it for our VR??

When we return….The Luckiest”

08-14-2008, 01:37 PM

08-14-2008, 01:43 PM

where are you???? We want to hear each and every detail!!!!

08-14-2008, 02:06 PM
I have a few minutes..I will add!:

THe Luckiest!!

When last we left..our bride was asking for special cakes and now she had found a song by Ben Fold's called "the luckiest"

I don't get many things right the first time
In fact, I am told that a lot
Now I know all the wrong turns, the stumbles and falls
Brought me here

And where was I before the day
That I first saw your lovely face?
Now I see it everyday
And I know

That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest

What if I'd been born fifty years before you
In a house on a street where you lived?
Maybe I'd be outside as you passed on your bike
Would I know?

And in a white sea of eyes
I see one pair that I recognize
And I know

That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest

I love you more than I have ever found a way to say to you

Next door there's an old man who lived to his nineties
And one day passed away in his sleep
And his wife; she stayed for a couple of days
And passed away

I'm sorry, I know that's a strange way to tell you that I know we belong
That I know

That I am
I am
I am
The luckiest
Because DH was in a very bad first marriage, the words seemed so great..the song itself is wonderful. I knew that if I brought a CD to the ship, they could play it for me..but if I gave the pianist sheet music, could he play it?? Cathy forwarded the music to the ship and I crossed my fingers!

At this point, I really needed to get my act together!! I was 30 days from sailing and had SOO many things to do! Program cards, dress finals..ugh!

I got a call from my Travel Agent one Sunday a few weeks before we left..would I be interested in changing rooms?? While we had planned on staying in our Secret Porthole Room for both cruises, I could not resist going from a Cat 10 to a Cat 7 AND getting money back for the Florida Resident Rate..I took it..when I logged in to see the room..it was a Secret Veranda Room!!!
How romantic!!! A veranda..all to ourselves on our VR portion!! WOO HOO!!!

Our Room!

With the help of a Ophie, I made our programs for the VR..started as a watermark..morphed into a picture of the ship at Castaway with info printed on vellum:

This is where the story gets GOOD!! Ha ha ha!

Initally, we did not have a photo package because I couldn't see spending that amount on pictures! Cathy sent me an email that a new "Vow Renewal Package" was available for $175!! SOLD!! I had many people taking picture of the ceremony (as it turns out..thank GOD i did..but i digress) but really wanted some photos around the ship too!

THE shoes!!

I still had not found THE shoes for the dress..i had something that would "work" but not happy..then one night while DH was trying on shoes at Penny's..I found THEM!! PERFECT!! Love!! (Dh complained that he couldn't even go shoe shopping without me getting something!!)

(little did I know, they matched almost exactly with the style my bridesmaids had ordered!!)

ok..i need to get back to work!!

Next time..: WE SAIL!!!

08-14-2008, 02:57 PM
Yay an update! Can't wait to hear more!!!:surfweb:

We Sail!!

So the planning is done, bags packed and we are ready to drive up to Port Canavaral!!
(note: previously stated that DH's son would be joining us on the cruise..he got a chance to fly Cessnas in Georgia for 20 days on a college campus..can't say he made a bad choice..he was really missed, but it also was nice to have a whole cabin for just DH and I!!)

Packed and ready to go, dog sitter scheduled..let's go!! It was a fast trip up to PC..3 hours and when we arrived at the Country Inn Suites our One bedroom was available. Most of the other party was staying over at the Radisson so we headed over there for Tiki and swim!
after a few good "we're here!!" drinks, we decided to move to Kelsey's Pizza for dinna!
After dinner, we went back to our hotel to get ready for the next morning!

It's Here!!

Jump on the 10am shuttle over to the port!! There she is..my beeg boat!!
Friends are already in the terminal..quick check in and we are ready to go!!

08-18-2008, 10:19 PM

Ok, Betsy, next time, type it in word and copy it over (except for the pics) at least then all your typing won't be gone. I would do that when I was doing our Christmas trip report. Losing it a couple times and I finally learned.

08-27-2008, 09:41 PM
What a way to tease us!!!!!!!!!!!

08-27-2008, 09:55 PM

Can't wait to read more!

09-08-2008, 09:59 PM
ok..let me try again!

So we check in and get our pictures done:

We had lunch at Beach Blanket Buffet and while there, we order the 4 night wine package. We love Chateau St Michelle Riesling and it was on the package..if we didn't drink all the wine the 4 day, they would carry it over to the 3day cruise.
While we waited for our room to be ready, we headed to deck 4 Port side to hang out and let DH catch a nap.

After he was rested and refreshed, I decided to hit him with the Villa Spa!! I knew once he went on a tour, he would be putty in my hands!! MuWa Ha ha ha!

He did it!! We booked the Couple's Romance for our first CC day at sunset! I can't wait!!

After getting to our room, we decided to head for the Quiet Cove pool while DM and DD went and explored the ship..it was very nice adult time!

We went back to our room for the drill and then to Deck 10 Starboard for our sail away party:

Few drinks later..it was time for dinner at Parrot Cay

When we got back from dinner, our steward had a nice surprise

Next Up: First Castaway Cay Day, Villa Spa and "I GOT YOU BABE!"

09-08-2008, 10:02 PM
Ok, I have to ask... do you remember your stateroom number? Your so lucky to get a secret verandah!!

09-08-2008, 10:06 PM
6134!! I owe it all to SueEllen at Dreams Unlimited..she watched it for me

09-09-2008, 08:04 AM
Betsy.....didn't you LOVE the spa couples villa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could use one of those every week!!

09-09-2008, 01:12 PM
I want to do the Couples Spa, but Pete is hard to convince!

YAY for the update!

09-09-2008, 01:19 PM
ooooo, I wouldn't even tell him, just book him and then take him by the hand and let him just enjoy!!!!!!!!! Dave was like that the first time he ever had a massage, but then he was hooked!! And, you can pick any treatment you want for that hour, so you could pick something that you know he could handle. I had a 30 minute massage and a 30 minute fascial.....HEAVEN.

09-09-2008, 02:51 PM
Oh nice!! Dh and I did a couples massage on the last cruise we went on!! I'd love to do one again! OH and a jacuzzi!!

09-15-2008, 09:10 AM
Yea Betsy, you finally 'started' again!!! Looks so nice! It was awesome meeting you! Can't wait to read more and of course MORE PICS!!!

09-18-2008, 01:36 PM

09-18-2008, 02:23 PM

Can you share with me the person who delivered your flowers. I can NOT pay $18 a piece for a lily for my hair through Disney. Even if I end up paying a delivery fee I will. I am going nuts. Sorry to pirate your tread! LOL

09-18-2008, 03:23 PM

09-18-2008, 03:38 PM

09-18-2008, 05:29 PM

09-20-2008, 03:11 PM
oh boy!! you are in real trouble now!! I just got some more VR pictures today

i hadn't seen this one..we were talking about what photo shots we wanted so we look very deep in thought!

09-25-2008, 10:49 AM
Let me try again..I tried this Monday night but Kodak site was down and I couldn't post pictures:

We had booked a para sailing trip for our CC day (something none of us had done) and we didn't have to be there until 11. We headed down to the beach to get my mom set up before we went.

DD and DH got cooled off in the water and it looked to be a perfect day!

We para sailed with a few Dis'ers and it was a blast!! I wish I had bought a waterproof camera because the view was amazing!

(pictures later when I can find them!!)

We came back and had some lunch and hung out with our friends..pretty soon it was time to head back to the ship for our Villa Spa. We went about 2 hours early to enjoy the Rainforest..wow..it was so cool! We were there about 90 minutes enjoying the different steam rooms and chairs.
We missed the sail away..I was hoping to watch it from the Villa balcony..but we could hear the horn inside the rain forest.

Right on time, the 2 girls came and got us. They took us to the same room we were shown on the tour
It was about 5pm and the sun was blazing in the balcony..they did a salt scrub on our feet and then put us in the tub with some aromatherapy bath..we closed the slider to block some of the sun and enjoyed our "alone" time despite the fact we had a nosey voyeur on the deck above us!!

After about 20 minutes they came and got us and told us to take off our bathing suits and get under the blanket..they would return in a minute.

We picked the salt glow scrub/massage. This felt GREAT..alittle scrubby, but smelled sooo good. This was all over and then they told us to go back out to the balcony and rinse off (they left us alone again). Showering in an open air area with the sun setting on the horizon with your husband?? WOW!! Wish I had this in my backyard!!
We go back into the room and they finish with a massage. Yu put your robes back on and they serve you tea and fresh fruit on the chaise..

The entire treatment was about 2 or 2.5 hours..I didn't feel tired afterwards, but so refreshed!
At this point it was about 8:00pm and we had 15 minutes to get ready for dinner..we ended up being late, but when we walked in, everyone in our party said "WOW!! You two look GREAT!!" It was really the best $$$$$ (lol) we ever spent aside from the actual VR!

That night was "karaoke" night!! All our friends agreed to go down in our PJ's so I was in my "bride" tank top and pink Eeyore pj pants
DH is so introverted that I didn't think he would get up and sing, but after some prodding, and many other friends getting up..he agreed to "I Got You Babe"
It was hysterical!!
(Grrr..kodak is having issues again..i will post all the pictures later!!)

Next - Nassau and a day on the Boat!!

09-25-2008, 12:57 PM
Betsy!!!!! YEA, you are finally working on this (like I have room to talk). You two are so cute!!! Can't wait to see more of your photos!

09-29-2008, 10:58 AM

09-29-2008, 11:13 AM

There's more to the story popcorn::

P.S. How did you loose your weight? You look great.

10-09-2008, 05:10 PM
Day 3 - Nassau
Most of this day, we spent around the ship. We had decided not to get off the ship. We enjoyed the pool and the rain forest and generall hanging with friends. The concierge party was at Beach Blanket that afternoon and our Suite/Sweet friends invited us. It gave us the chance to see how much sun hit the Deck 7 at 5pm
DH and tarzanman enjoying the party
After dinner, the one night I didn't take pictures, we came back to our room to a towel animal

10-09-2008, 05:30 PM
Day 4 - Second Castaway Cay

We had a group brunch booked today. It was a chance for us to see the private room where our reception was held. We has such a good time!

Cheri and I :
Renee being silly with chocolate sticks!
Cheri gets her own bowl of whipped cream to eat:

Then we were off to enjoy Castaway again:

This was our last night..some friends were unable to go on the 2nd cruise, so it was a bittersweet night. We had dinner at AP
This was the night I asked for a favor..actually 2. DH LOVES shrimp cocktail. He had asked me if they had this on the ship. We had one in Palo one night, but I wanted to get him another..I asked the Head Waiter if he could get one for him. DH was surprised when they brought him a special one:
I also asked for chocolate souffles from Palo for our table. I had never asked for this one previous cruises..Since DD had never had one, she was excited to get to try the famous Palo Souffle!

The next morning we had breakfast
and had to say goodbye to our friends..it was sad and as we assembled in the Atrium to be escorted off and reboard, we tried to hide the daughter in the luggage so she could stay

10-09-2008, 05:31 PM

We Sail - AGAIN!

So after meeting at the atrium and getting of the ship in a group, we were rechecked in and waited to be brought back onboard. DCL is really amazing with the whole B2B process.
DH in terminal:
The entire ship was ours! Since we were upgraded, we had to wait for our room to be done, but since our group was so large, they opend the Cove Cafe for us to have snacks. The pools were also open and we enjoyed having a swim in the clean Goofy pool!
We walked around the deck and waved at the people in the terminal who were not allowed to board yet..this was something I had waited over a year for!!
Went down to Roy Brides Maids room to further taunt the people in the terminal...
Soon..it was time to head up for lunch! We decided that BBB was the best and after lunch, we went to my mothers room (our old room) and gathered our stuff and moved to our Secret Veranda Room and decorate our door!!

We did a quiet sailaway up front..My friend Ophie captures some pretty sweet moments:

This was our Vow Renewal Cruise!! That night, while getting ready for dinner, Rufaro brought a gift by the room:
2 robes in a red beach bag..I love them! I wore them up and down the halls!!

Dinner at Tritons!!
We headed to bed early for the big day!!

10-21-2008, 10:09 PM
yea betsy, glad you finally started on the REAL TR!!!!! Can't wait to see more.

"A Bridesmaid Account of Betsy's Wedding"

You could see it in her eyes. Today was the day she'd been waiting for! The day she gets her ceremony.

It was my job to be sure everything went the way she wanted it to. Hopefully the previous months of dress, shoe and flower shopping would all come together in a picture that would be the one she saw in her dreams.

Betsy showed up in the "Roy" bridesmaids room carrying what looked to be a trunk of things! Who knew she needed so much stuff Rollers flying, make-up brushes emerged and the transformation begins!

Since Betsy was on the way to getting ready, I ran back to my room to try to make myself presentable. I blow-dried, flat ironed and hair sprayed myself. Then I preceeded to stuff myself into my Spanx and hoped that I'd look alright. Put on my shoes, grabbed my bouquet and back I ran to Betsy.

She was a beautiful sight. Her beaded dress shone and her Gramma's crystal necklace hung on her neck. All the while we're waiting.....she is pacing. Is it time...why aren't they here for me yet she kept asking. Finally, the doorbell rang and we were off.

We arrived at the "doorway to her future husband". We lined up and the music began to play. I was the first through the door, as I was to stand beside Rick. Then came Cheri to stand by Betsy....then entered Kate. Betsy stood at the doorway with the biggest and brightest smile. She walked her way towards Rick. With all eyes on her, she and Rick exchanged vows. I had expected Betsy to cry, but it ended up being Rick with the tear in his eye.
And with an "I Do" it was complete.

There were cheers, bubbles and cameras everywhere....hence all Betsy's posted pictures!

Got more pictures to share??? ;)

well, now you are just taunting me!:lmao:

10-23-2008, 12:15 PM
I just found your TR and have read every word! I'm loving it and can't wait to read (and see) more!

11-11-2008, 02:43 PM
Today!! Today!! I have my wedding today!!!

Friday was Nassau day. We did not plan on getting off the ship and I had wanted the day to be relaxing!!

We went to the Rainforest again for about an hour then headed to the pool. Many of our friends had gathered at the adult pool so we had time to chill and just enjoy the day.

I made an appointment at the salon for a pedicure at 1:30pm. A week on a ship can really mess up your pedicure!! My pedicurist was getting married in Jamaica so we talked about everything weddings!

There was another bride getting her hair and makeup done. I was starting to think maybe it was a mistake for me to do my own hair..oh no!! Too late now!!
After my pedicure, I ran back to the room to shower and pack up! I was to meet my bridesmaids in The Roy Suite. The flowers were being delivered at 3:00 for Palo and my bouquets at 4pm. I kissed my groom goodbye and told him I would meet him at 5:30pm on Deck 7 Aft..NOT TO BE LATE!!!

Did you know how much stuff it takes to make a bride beautiful??? Half a room!! I was so excited when I got to the room! It was finally time!!

I started to set curlers and makeup out to get ready when Rufaro came with the flowers for Palo! I had ordered loose roses, hydrangeas and orchids with glass cubes to go on the table. At the time, I didn't notice the orchids were missing but I did have a problem!! No scissors to cut the flowers!! Rufaro ran to get the scissors and some rubber bands to hold the flowers together (the things she thinks of!!) I was pretty happy with the results. I laid some hydrangea leaves against the glass to hide the stems and they came out pretty good!

We leave the room to RUN (not walk, RUN) to Palo because the manager Marco has agreed to let us in early to put the flowers on the table. We walked in on a wine tasting (oops!) in our shorts and tees, but I had a mission! When we left, we ran back down the stairs to the room to get ready!

Let me give props to Conair clip hot curlers!!
Everyone just sat and watched me! haha
and then!! BM Cheri says "I need that space!!" AGH!! I had to find somewhere else to put on my face!

Then...I noticed!! My DD's hair wasn't done!!! YIKES!!! Now, I start to panic! How am I possibly going to be done in time!!

11-11-2008, 03:39 PM
Well Betsy,

It's about time you got back to this!!!! We've been waiting patiently!

11-12-2008, 07:42 AM
I agree Patty, I think that Betsy is too busy flitting on all the other threads...;) Just teasing.

Did you guys have one of the suites? From your pictures, the room looks pretty big.

11-12-2008, 08:07 AM
My bridesmaid RJ (the redhead) had the Walt Suite and bridesmaid Cheri (the blond) had the Roy Suite. I got ready in the Roy

11-12-2008, 08:23 AM
:yay: the wedding day is here.
Oh both the suites.....WOW. Got any pictures of the suites to share?

11-12-2008, 08:30 AM
After finishing DD's hair, Rufaro came back with the bouquets and my mother's corsage
I was so happy my mother got to be part of this. I really wished my dad had lived to see us get married. They waited a really long time for us to make it legal!

Now I had to get my hair done and get everyone dressed and ready! I went off into the other bathroom to do my hair while Cheri and her DH were getting dressed. Renee amused herself with taking pictures!!
Bridesmaid Dress:

I called Renee to help me with my hair and veil. I wanted to make sure it was centered! I was starting to get anxious! It was 5pm and they would be here to pick me up in 20 minutes!!

I had asked my mother to bring her pearls and my dad's mothers crystals for me. I wasn't sure which I wanted to wear since the dress had both on it. When I saw the crystals, I knew that was going to be perfect! They are about 80 years old, and heavy as lead!! I put them on and got my hair finished..I was ready for my dress!

The moment of TRUTH!!! I had been dieting for over a year..I was really careful on the cruise so that I would still fit in the dress..I slipped it on and it was perfect!! I felt like a real bride!!

Next - I will TRY to piece together what was happening on deck from what was told to me later!!

11-12-2008, 08:51 AM
YEAH!! Woo hoo!! You look beautiful! can't wait for more!!

11-12-2008, 09:17 AM
The following is a report from what I heard:

DH was picked up in his room by Rufaro at 5:00pm. We were only one deck below so they took the stairs up the aft. Rick couldn't believe what DCL had done. He was impressed with all the decorations!
When he stepped out on deck, he was sure I was going to love it.
All our friends had gathered out on deck with cameras waiting for the event.

The sun was out and perfect! Rick did have one problem..he didn't know how to attach his boutonniere

Apparently, when the Captain came out, he was shocked by the number of cameras and video..he called them the Paparazzi..
He and Rick went to the side and chatted. Rick asked him how he became a captain and he asked Rick about some background on us. He was kinda shocked we were renewing our vows after only one year of marriage..so Rick had to explain the story
Adam was there, playing the music we had selected..it was very close to 5:30..Rick was wondering where I was..was there a problem??

Finally..they were told!! The bride is on the move!!!

11-12-2008, 09:46 AM
How exciting, as a future DCL bride, I can't wait to read more!!!

11-12-2008, 09:49 AM
This is great! Great pics!! I am very impatiently waiting my turn on the Wonder for my wedding!! Reading about yours and seeing all these great pics is awesome!! Keep 'em coming!! popcorn:: :cool1:

11-12-2008, 10:11 AM
I do you put into words what it was like?? Even as I type this, the emotion of the moment gets caught in my throat. Walking the halls in a long caravan to go to your own wedding is surreal. People walking by gasp and say "look at the bride" or "congratulations!!" I wanted to take in every moment and yet get there fast!!
As we walk to the back door and Rufaro lets them know to start the processional, a wave of calm passed over me..almost WILLING me to remember the feeling I had..to take in the whole thing. First, my mother went. She later said she was taken in by the special decorations DCL had done.

As Cheri walked through the door, I caught a wave of my song "the luckiest" come thru the door..
Even as an instrumental piece without words, it chokes me up!

Soon Kate was walking out and I asked Rufaro to close the door..I had the clearness in my head that I wanted the drama of walking out the door as "a moment"
Everyone was waiting..it was my turn!! I remember thinking "DON'T TRIP" on the large threshold! At the same time, I wanted to look at Rick..I wanted to watch his face as I came down the aisle. I honestly don't remember the music or the people..just his face smiling at me!

As the Captain greeted us and thanked everyone for being part of our day, I could not stop smiling at the man I married 11 month before. We had had a very long journey here. I was sad that his son had been unable to join us, but thrilled that our daughter was able to witness the love her parents had. Amazingly, after weeks of crying at the drop of a hat, I was extremely calm. I can't even tell you the peace I had in my heart. It sounds sappy and stupid, but hey..this is my wedding report..I can do that!
As Rick started his vows " I Rick, reaffirm that you are my wife and my best friend" his voice cracks..He squints his eyes to make it through and I grasp his hands tight to give him support. As he later told me, the emotion of saying those words, and knowing it was all real and he would lever feel so loved, got to him
When it came to my vows, I added alittle..instead of "my husband and best friend" I said "My husband and my VERY best friend"
Rick said he was shocked that I didn't cry a drop! I guess I was too busy grinning from ear to ear!
We exchanged our rings - I wear my Dad's wedding ring from 1956 on my thumb..I was really glad that the ring got into shot..so did my tissue!
They reaffirmed us as husband and wife and we KISSED!!
I think it was a long kiss judging by the series of burst shots our friend took!

11-12-2008, 10:51 AM
Wow Betsy, you leave us hanging for weeks and BAM!!!! you've got these installments up in no time! Even though we've seen most of these photos, having it with the play by play, I'm sitting here crying (partly in remembering our VR a short time later). You looked beautiful! Hubby didn't know how to put on his boutteniere so I made sure Rufaro helped him when she got to the lounge to check on him.

11-13-2008, 04:00 PM
I know, I know..you are sick to death of my pictures..But I thought I would try to put a story to them
So after we walk up the aisle, we ducked into the hall and had a private moment of kissing and talking about everything. They ushered us out and since we were waiting to do the toast and cake in Palo, they started taking pictures.
Now, I have always been the bridesmaid..this was my chance to get to be the center of attention. I have to tell ya, everyone wanting to take your picture is FUN!!
We took some with the Captain before he left..I wasn't really thrilled with alot of the pictures the ships photographer "Elvis" took..he was nice, but I am very thankful I had my friends to back him up
He said goodbye and then Rick and I had some pictures done..I know you have seen these, but bear with me..They are a series of shots that were taken as we were just talking to people off camera..the last was captured as we were talking about what shots we wanted to get..I don't think you can understand without knowing us, but the simple gesture of placing my hand on his face as we talk gives me such a simple feeling of being home..does that make sense..when I see that picture, I feel happy!
Ok..so next came the wedding party shots.
Mom came over and had some pictures with us
Rick wanted to make sure we had some shots of mom and I..Mom has non-smoker COPD and it is advancing. Again..Elvis let me down with the professional, but my friend Ophie took AMAZING pictures of mom and I and my veil shots
Here is Elvis, ruining what is Rick's favorite picture
This is my favorite shot..I am so glad she captured it..the wind wasn't bad, but I had seen so many veil shots on the boards, I wanted a blown one and the Nassau winds took care of the rest!
My friend also captured this moment..the girls and I were looking over the side when I said "let's jump!" and here is me trying that!!
We took a final shot with the entire group..we also took a "crazy" one but they didn't print it, so I guess it didn't take!

Everyone headed up to Palo while Rick and I went to walk around and take shots on deck. Again, I was not happy with most of these..they used too much flash and we ended up not selecting them in our package. We did take 3..two at the funnel
We headed to the aft to meet up at Palo..we were just walking and talking when Elvis captured this one..I love it except the fat roll!

Next - Palo Reception

11-13-2008, 04:38 PM
We had nothing and then bamm!! We get it all!!!!!! :yay:

Isn't it just a blast to relive it!!!

11-14-2008, 11:42 AM
My Reception, MY RECEPTION!! (movie anyone?)

As we headed to Palo, our friends gathered in the front area to be seated.

I had secured the Palo Room months before so I could have a reception. As reported earlier, the negations over the cake being set up in the room. I finally got my wish.
The room turned out amazing..the Palo team had placed our programs on the glasses rather than the plates, but it was fine..Our friend Linda and SueEllen took shots of the room!
We brought a battery powered ipod player and THANKFULLY, before our Mac died in July, I had put together a playlist of our favorite songs to play in the background of Palo
When we got to Palo, I HAD to visit the ladies room..My very good bridesmaid RonnieJo went to help me. You can't really appreciate a good friend until she holds your wedding dress up over you so you can visit the ladies room!
While we were in there, the photographer took a great picture of Rick holding my bouquet with his poochy lip sticking out...he hated the picture so we didn't get it, but it was priceless..I wish I had thought of taking pictures of the pictures we didn't choose. They handed us a stack of 200 to take to our cabin..but, I digress

So, we were ready to make our Palo entry..Marco (the manager and our former waiter when we cruised on the Magic in 2005) led us in to Palo..again, very exciting to hear the gasps and ohh and awws when you walk around in a wedding dress..I felt like a princess!!
We get to the back of the restaurant and Marco led us into the room where everyone was waiting!
(two nice pictures of me licking my dry lips..nice!! :rotfl: )

First order of business was getting the music started..Rick didn't know how to get it started, so I had to fix it..Haa..my tech challenged husband!

Once that was settled, the photographer asked us for our rings, I wanted a picture of our hands with our rings since the original wedding day picture was taken with our cell phone..he did it on the back of the Palo menu
I also added the program because the menu is copper and not great for a background
He then took our rings to photograph the cake. Can I just brag on my cake..with the whole flash problem, I don't think the colors came out right, but the pictures came out so pretty, I was thrilled
This was some extra flowers we had for rose petals on the cake table..they threw them in the champagne bucket!
They wanted us to cut the cake since the photographers hour was going to end soon. We also did a toast..I know I have seen a picture, but now I can't find it...here is our cake cutting..and some "cutting up!"
You have to know us to get the knife picture..I think some people who have seen the picture were thinking it was not nice..but we were laughing hysterical!!

11-14-2008, 12:12 PM
Oh Oh oh! Steel Magnolia!! love that movie!!

Great photos!

11-14-2008, 12:16 PM
At first, for some reason, they thought we didn't want to cut the cake..the server said she would cut it for us..UMMM...NO!!! I waited a very long time to feed my cake to my husband!!
At first..I wanted to get cake on his face, but he warned me, I would get a payback!! Yikes..so when I scooped up the cake, I managed to get some on my index finger and as I fed it to him, I dabbed it on his nose!! SUCCESS!!
Of course, I helped him out by getting it off his nose..cause, ya know..I am nice like that!
Now, it was my turn...I begged him not to get it all over my dress!!
He was a good boy! But look at his face!!

Now..it was time to EAT!!
The Palo team set up several antipastas and some pizzas that were ordered..I loved sitting at the head of the table. Again, very vain of me, but being the center of attention with everyone wanting to talk to you was thrilling!
Here is our picture AFTER JandJ fixed my wrinkled b@@b!!
The sun began to set..I couldn't believe all the planning of time and every detail had come together. It was such a great reception!
They served our cake with Palo chocolate and vanilla sauce..wow! It was better than I thought!! Marco remembered that Cheri loved whipped cream..he brought her a bowl at the brunch, and another bowl at the reception!
At the end..they kicked us out!! Some officers had a dinner reserved in the Palo Room at 8:30!! BAH!!

TIME TO PARTY IN THE CLUBS!!! - But first, the best photo sell EVER!

11-14-2008, 12:20 PM
DING DING DING Jen!! You are the winner!

11-18-2008, 11:35 AM

Vow Renewal Music Video (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1852099715134596502)

11-18-2008, 09:37 PM
I just love your cake topper!

11-19-2008, 07:57 AM
Everything looked perfect---deck 7, your dress, your flowers, Palo & your cake was beautiful. So happy that it all lived up to your expectations.
I really want to do this for our vow renewal now. It's not for 5 years, but I think this is the way to go.......I was thinking of doing it at WDW but this seems better.

11-19-2008, 09:24 PM
and cheaper (if you sail in value season)!!!
From what I can tell, WDWVR is very close to DCLVR, but I think WDW has a planning session..I am not sure

I am not sure if I mentioned, we got to attend the party for concierge at BBB during our VR cruise..we had gone to the first one on the 4day as guests of our bridesmaids..that was nice perk!

11-21-2008, 09:35 PM
Hi Betsy!

Wow a concierge party!! Do we get an invitation in our room? I love your cake!! That green really set it off so beautifully!! How soon should I put in a request to Cathy for our cake?

11-22-2008, 09:22 AM
i would put it on your contract when you send it in..
I didn't change mine till I got the paperwork 30 days before

11-23-2008, 03:24 PM
Photos and MORE photos!!

We all left Palo and agreed to meet for the karaoke in the club. We had done this on the first cruise (where we sang "I Got You Babe) and it was Friday night on the 2nd cruise.
First, we went to our room to regroup..When we got there, the had set up champagne and chocolate strawberries for us!! Yum!!
We didn't stay long..I wanted to get the most out of my dress and my wedding day. I also wanted to get a shot in the atrium with the ship background.
We got down there and did our pictures..I really wasn't happy with the way they turned out, but as we were getting the shots, the photographer suggested we get our picture taken with the white background. I thought the white would wash us out and protested, but after being prodded, we went over. Our friends Ophie and Tzman were there having their shot done.
They make you take off your shoes to step on the background. I had these shots done on the 2006 cruise with my mom (all with matching dresses) and I liked the barefoot idea.
Ophie shot some pictures of us being photographed..no flash so she wouldn't mess up the photographer:
Then we took some pictures with O&T :
The lifestyle pictures ended up being the one of the smartest shots we did!! They came out awesome, and we ended up using them as some of out photo allowance!

Now it was time to go find our group and head to the club..We found them all hanging out in Cheri's room...The BRIDE WANTS TO PARTY!!

12-15-2008, 12:28 PM
YAY Betsy...How did I miss that you had started back up...oh yeah I was away getting married...LOL :lmao:

You looked so pretty!!!

01-11-2009, 09:25 PM
So..time to Paarrrtttyyyy!!

We all head down to Wavebands to have our post ceremony party..We had already done karaoke on the first night of our cruise so Trent was very familiar with our loud group!!

Before starting the show, he had Rick and I come up and introduced us and had us dace to "Going to the Chapel"

Then..I had to go find a ladies room with my ladies!!! nothing like a corset to make you need all the girls to help you out and hold you up!!

Then it was time for my solo to my new husband...
"i made it through the wilderness....somehow I made it throu hoo
Didn't know how lost I was, until I found you...

Your pictures are wonderful! I Am in love with your cake too!

01-12-2009, 01:51 PM
Question for DCL brides: I got my info from Cathy which lists the cake choices. My problem is that I don't know what to choose! How did you choose cake flavors without being able to taste them first? And which did you have and was it a good choice? The choices I was given are:

Cake flavors: Chocolate, white, yellow, marble and lemon

Filling flavors: Chocolate mousse, white chocolate mousse, strawberry mousse, passion fruit mousse, mango mousse, bavarian cream and butter cream...

01-12-2009, 02:31 PM
originally, I didn't like the way anything sounded so I went with yellow cake and buttercream..i had planned to ask for Palo's chocolate sauce to drizzle over

a few weeks before the cruise (about the time I got my contract) i thought of having almond extract added to the cake and changing the flowers to green

Cathy sent an email to the pastry chef to see if it was possible and he/she confirmed it was no problem

When they served the cake, Palo had chocolate and vanilla sauce for the guests to drizzle..I would KILL for another piece of that cake!!!!!

We did the chocolate cake with strawberry mousse......YUMMY.

You just need to trust that nothing will taste bad. One of the diser's saw my cake being decorated the day of the VR, so it is FRESH!!!!

Go with you gut.

sorry for butting in Betsy

01-13-2009, 01:40 PM
we are going with Chocolate cake with white chocolate mousee and white cake with chocolate mousse. sounds easiest, and hopefully hard to screw up.

01-13-2009, 07:56 PM
well folks!!

That about wraps up the VR portion of the cruise!

I am now in a deep photo depression!! I will try to get the final Castaway Cay day posted which included our personal tour of the Bridge!!!

Betsy, you need to scrapbook the entire trip so you can look at it daily....that's what I did for about 6 months!! Now, I open the book up about once per week.

01-15-2009, 08:19 AM
i am bad at scrapbooking..I have all kinds of scraps from the cruise, but no talet for scrapbooking

Cheryl - I am going to send you a big box of stuff and hire you to make me one!!

Would love to....and I won't charge you a dime. Creative Memories make a Red Mickey 12 x 12 album that is perfect for such an occasion!!! I actually used their brown "leather" looking one with a gold compass on the front, thought it looked quite nautical. I will be in your neck of the woods in March for son's birthday, so we should meet up and you can fork over the goods.....save postage one way!! :goodvibes And we could have dinner at one of their fine dining establishments. I already have all my AD's booked, but would change if we were to meet up.

On your dream wedding. I'm so happy for you and your husband. I hope you have a wonderful long life together.

02-06-2009, 09:52 PM
I love your TR and your wedding was beautiful!! I keep looking at your pictures and dreaming about my DCL VR!!

Your weight loss has really inspired me to start watching what I eat and working out again. After my last abdominal surgery, I was up to 210 at 5'2'' - not good. I managed to get down to 150 last year, but it has been creeping back up slowly. I was at 170, but I've managed to get off 8 lbs. Looking at your picks just completely inspires me. I want to look good in my dress too!! If I can lose another 25lbs, I can actually wear my original dress!!! Anyway...everything looked great! Keep posting pictures everywhere! I love them.

02-11-2009, 05:23 PM
Thank you!!

I can now announce that my VR has been featured in the Passporter's Guide to Disney Weddings & Honeymoons
My husband being photographed on deck

My VR has several pictures and so does Lisa's Castaway Cay Wedding (the book is written by lurkyloo)

Betsy I saw one of your posts and I am in love with DFTW's and VR's and I am so doing one. My DH just shakes his head. I wish I would have thought about it the first time to get married there. I think it's cool that you VR is features in the Passporter's Guide, maybe soon I can get one of those books to use for my VR.

02-25-2009, 11:16 AM
Thank You!!

It really was so awesome and I just loved the result!

I am now trying to convince DH to have another VR at WDW..at first I thought about the WP, but now I am thinking about the sand at the Poly

8 more years to plan!! hahah

02-28-2009, 08:57 AM
I notice in you pictures at Palo, that you daughter is not there.
Even for a special occasion in the"special room" they do not make exceptions?

I was seriously considering asking for many of the same things, but I think if my DD 15 was left out of cake cutting, and toasts, and such. Then I will leave things the way they are.

02-28-2009, 03:42 PM
I have just finished your TR ad I loved it you and your Hubby look so happy in very much in love in all your pics. You look like you had lots and lots of fun

Thank you for sharing this i really enjoyed reading it

03-01-2009, 06:47 AM
Bridrav - No..Palo will not bend the age rule unless you have a Castaway Cay ceremony..then you have a private cake cutting in Palo

Our DD was getting antsy at the photography portion of the VR..she was itching to run and join her friends in the club. Everynight, the kids couldn't wait to leave the dinner table to go to the club...but she was 10..maybe that is different for a 15 year old

Thank you Tinks..it was really a great vacation and great wedding..just like a Fairy Tale!princess:

03-28-2009, 05:57 PM
Absolutely beautiful pix!! Now I have to start in on my DH for mine!! ;)

04-07-2009, 04:55 PM
I showed your TR to my parents yesterday so they would know what to expect. It was very helpful!

Question, did you have a first dance? or do any dancing at all? It didn't seam like you did. DF hates dancing but is hung up on wanting various songs 'played at his wedding' and it would be nice to have a first dance at least.

04-07-2009, 05:26 PM
We had a dance in the club.. We could have done it on deck but chose not to since we did the cake in palo

04-10-2009, 10:03 AM
I just read your TR--everything was beautiful! And you look so joyful in every picture. I :lovestruc your bouquet!

Betsy, you looked so beautiful. I love your dress. Can I borrow it when I get married? lol. I want to have a beach wedding and that's exactly like the dress of my dreams. I am so happy you got your dream wedding and your prince. I can only pray that I'm blessed as you are. God bless and good luck to the three of you on your life together. Happy Mickey

My friend Amanda just used the same dress for her church ceremony...It is Alfred Angelo's Destiny collection..the shoes the model is wearing are the same shoes I ended uo getting...but I got them from Penny's for about $40 cheaper!

Betsy, thanks so much for the information!!! And for the shoe tip, I'm very practical when it comes to shoes and I like to get the best deal. Thanks again!!! God bless

Yes..love me a shoe bargain..I hunted and hunted for shoes but didn't want to pay $70 for the shoes from Alfred Angelo..then one night about a month before the wedding, we walked into Penny's and they were there for $29!!

They ended up being almost the same as my bridesmaids shoes..same silver bottom..it was funny!

I just read your TR from start to finish and how beautiful your VR was. If I read correctly you were also married in 2007, so were we in June. I have to admit you have me convinced to talk my DH into a VR on DCL after our 5 year Anniversary and during my 30th Birthday trip. Congratulations to you and your DH. I love the remake of your cake by Publix. I miss Publix's cakes (can you tell I'm still a Floridian at heart?). Absolutely beautiful!

I really enjoyed reading your report. I am in the beginning stages of planning a VR for 2012 and was debating whether to do the beach one or the one on the deck. I was also very concerned that my youngest son may be left out of the Palo section of it as he will be 16. With the other children being old enough to join us, that might not work out too well.

if you do the CC ceremony, your son will be able to go into Palo for the reception immediately following the ceremony.

Good luck! I loved all the planning!

Just read through your VR Trip Report. Such a beautiful ceremony. We are planning a DCL VR in June 2012. Can't wait! I'm sure I'll be asking for your advice on planning, etc.

Thank you!!:lovestruc

I can't believe it was 3 years ago..seems like yesterday. I also can't believe how many cruise brides there are now..when I was planning, there wasn't much information out there.

Enjoy and let me know if I can help!

I am here again looking at the pictures...LOL Ok.. so I re-read the entire ceremony. Still nothing in concrete for us except that our cruise is now booked along with 20 of our friends/family.

Love you big time,
