As I cruise around this board on occasion I stumble upon some amazing maps. They are all yours Robo:worship: ! So how many do you have and how can I get my hands on all of them???????? You never cease to amaze me with your ability to get across just the information I need with the maps. So far I have saved eight and if you don't hand over the rest of them I'm going to stalk you until I have them all :rotfl2: Just kidding (kind of). I do love the maps you do!

Another vote for a thread with all of Robo's maps. Even better, a sticky with all of those great maps!

I don't really know how to respond.
I just post a map or two when I need to answer a question.

Just to remind everyone of the DISboards posting guidelines:
4. NO PERSONAL MESSAGES: The types of posts that we like to see on the DIS are those that everyone can participate in and benefit from. When a post is intended for an individual, it creates a problem and can be very awkward for both the person you're publicly contacting as well as others. Did you know that you can easily get in touch with almost anyone via the DIS Private Message system? Simply click on the name of the person and you should see a link for sending them a private message and/or email. If you come across a situation where the person has blocked these options, sorry you still can't use the boards to get in touch.
If you would like to thank a specific individual for his or her contributions to the boards, and I'll be one of the first to admit that Robo deserves many thanks, you should do so in a PM.
And since this isn't really a planning discussion, I've moved it to the Theme Parks Community board. :)

This was more request for copies of the maps than praise, I think.

So apparently I committed some Faux Pas here by passing out a compliment and making a kind request. But I stand by my first post that Robo makes great contributions and I know we would all benefit from an accumulation of his well created maps.

One example can be seen in the post here

Not sure if I'll get in trouble for posting link to another post. Disboard rules are getting really strict :confused3
He makes maps overlaying information on satellite pictures that are very useful. They are a wonderful WDW planning resource. HTH

Thanks for the link to a great map! I guess I will just have to save them as I find them. :surfweb:

We all agree these maps are a wonderful resource.. that's not the issue.
Threads entitled "USERNAME: .... bla bla bla" are the issue. The boards cannot be used that way. If for example, you wanted Robo to post his maps, send him a PM and ask him politely to post the maps.
Imagine if you will if we allowed these threads...
"Susan234: Did you get that thing I sent you?"
"Bob4567: Have you seen this?"
Etc. It gets out of hand very quickly. The issue here is not Robo. Nor his maps.
It's addressing threads directly to an individual user. That's the problem.
I hope this is clear and I hope we all understand why we have to enforce this rule.
Thanks,
Knox

Come on Mods. How about a sticky for Robo's maps since this makes 2 "personal" messages to Robo about maps in the last 12 hours.
If Robo is willing of course

The DIS cannot "host" these images. And I'd recommend strongly against gathering them all in one place.
These images are based on copyrighted imagery from other sources which make money by licensing those images. While I haven't asked Robo directly for his part, I know for a fact that the DIS doesn't have any license to use that imagery in this way.
Gathering them all in one place and making a sticky could open Robo to legal action by the owners of the satellite imagery and I don't think any of us would want that.
And again, if you need help or info from any DIS poster, just PM them. Most times they will be more than happy to post on the board as required or respond in PM as fits the occasion. Again, we're not saying you cannot get the help you need, we're just asking you to think in terms of the board policies and rules when you seek that help.
And lest anyone think we're being unfair here, I have in the past had people address posts on the open board to me directly and I've deleted those posts or renamed them and requested that when they specifically want my help, just PM me. If we allow ANY posts of a personal nature or addressing specific posters by name on the boards, then we must allow them all.
And then it becomes a free-for-all.
As moderators, we take the same heat when we move threads to the proper boards. Yes, we could leave a thread about airplane seatbelts here on the ThemeParks board.. But we have board organization and basic rules so that it is easy to find information and keep things in their proper place.
Many posters known for their knowledge do a wonderful job of finding, reading and responding to the threads where they think they can be of assistance...
Thanks...
Knox

As much as I hate having tons of bookmarks to Robo's maps, I have to agree with the principle on which CanadianGuy is protesting. On another board I visit for something non-Disney, there was a post addressed to a specific user celebrating their birthday. It made me feel really marginalized to see that. I don't know the specifics about legality, but I am sure CanadianGuy is right about that too. Imagine just how many school districts are playing movies or music in classrooms without licenses to do so. Average people largely do not respect copyright laws, but that doesn't mean we should flaunt it on the boards.
