Hi Everyone,

I am new here. My husband and I are going to Disney in September with our 2daughters 7&2. Joe my husband has ALS and is wheelchair bound. He can do very little transferring with one person. He needs 2 people. Our friends planned the trip for us we are staying with them at Disney Saratoga Springs Resort. We can really use extra hands while there and I was wondering if I can hire Nurse to be there for us. I know they are expensive, but where do I find out information about having them already there for us when we arrive. He doesnt need 24hr care . I would just need assistance in the morning and at night and during the day in the parks. Are they required to stay with us in the villa? If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it. He really is looking forward to this and everyone is telling us we are crazy for going. I will have a family member coming with us to help w/my kids and she can do somethings for him with me. But his legs are getting weaker and we need maybe a third person to lift him. Any suggestions???

Thanks
Allison

Hi Allison

Welcome to the Disboards. I don't know if you can hire someone, but I do believe you can. Please join us about 3/4 of the way down the page at the Disabilities Board, there is alot of valuable information listed there and some wonderful friendly people as well. All the info you will need is there.

To me, Disney is the best place to go to vacation with someone with a different ability. My mom needs some assistance, but transferring isn't one of them, at least not for many years.

Call Special Reservations, if you haven't already, to request a fully HA accessible room. Please let me know if you need the number and I will send you a PM.

The best place for this post is our disABILITIES forum. They can give you lots of help and advice there. But you haven't completed your registration so you can't post there.

Please complete your registration by clicking on confirmation link in the email that gets sent when you sign up. Then I can move this post over there for you.

In the mean time you might take a look at some of the posts over there and read the extensive FAQ thread.http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20

 You are not crazy for going on this wonderful vacation with your husband and children. My husband was in a wheelchair and on dialysis and we took a trip to DisneyWorld. Everyone was so helpful and the vacation was a great success. It was one of the most memorable vacations we ever had together and never regretted taking the trip. Have a wonderful time with your family....
