I only had one opportunity from the monorail to snap photos showing the current stage of the BLT construction. This was on Thursday of last week. Hope this helps anyone who is interested.

Thanks for the update. The BLT announcement will probably determine if we get to be DVC owners or not, so I'm anxiously awaiting news!

Any guesses on what that circular structure on top is going to be?
Maybe just something mechanical like the top of the elevator shaft, or air conditioning units, or something similiar.
Or maybe something neat like an observation deck for fireworks?
I remember when BWV was under construction, initial promotional materials indicated that 'the Attic' was going to be a members lounge, especially for viewing fireworks. By the time they started selling though, that idea was scrapped and it became a lounge for private functions only.

think someone found the paper - it is going to a lounge
the 'Top of the World' - remember the first name of CG - is coming back.
it is only a lounge not a restuarant.
so we can have a drink and watch wishes.
that is right now.
watch the management at Disney (not DVC) do it like 'attic' - and decide to rent it out only.
did you ever go a price list for the Attic - I think it like $25,000 and up to rent it. higher prices for the fireworks times. there excuse there were too many DVC members who would want to use it. and since everyone couldn't use it - no one could.
don't think that was the reason - the management saw it was a great place for the fireworks - and why give it to us for free - when they could rent it and make money.
so although would love the lounge - despite the papers - don't count on it.
the BW was complete and had guests staying - before Disney changed it's mind...

I wished I had more, but I made a special effort to ride the resort monorail on our last day just so I could get these. One side note (and I very well may be off in my directions), I think those rooms on the left side of the photo, on the end of the "C" will have the view of the MK.
Great pics, OP! Thank you for making the effort to give us an update! The clarity of these pics is great.

I am in "The World" right now and have chatted with a number of CM's about the BLT. The reaction right now is universal...denials with "wink, wink" attitudes.
My favorite response though was when one CM called it "Disney's Worst Kept Secret"! :rotfl2:

One comment I'd add on the BLT subject is that I had seen many of the pictures online as it has progressed and saw the excavated lot last summer but when I was there last week I was amazed at the actual size of the structure. Don't get me wrong, in the pictures it looks big but in person it looks enormous. Can't wait to stay there dvc or non - It's going to be awesome!!!

non-dvc - boy don't have the money to stay there.
it would cost a small fortune. would rather buy DVC (despite it costing slightly more) than pay cash for these type of villa.

The guy should be working and not leaning!!! No wonder it's taking so long!! (Also if you look in the first pic you can see them to the right about 4/5 floors ups. :scared1:

I think I might be the only person who thought it looked smaller than I'd imagined it'd be. When we went by it a few weeks ago I was expecting much more. It looked shorter and smaller than the CR to me.

No, there's two of us. When I sat on the 4th floor observation deck at CR last April and studied the structure I was a bit underwhelmed too. It seems smaller than the main hotel. Photos that show up online are usually blow-ups anyway. Size is deceptive.
Now the monstrosity they're building in the shadow of Oriole Park here in Baltimore... that's HUGE. Ugly and huge. Blocks the Bromo Seltzer Tower too. I hate the thing. At least BLT looks like it'll blend in with the surroundings better. But the view from the monorail facing rooms looks to be ugly to me. Just parking lot and monorail track. I think I'd prefer lake view.
dvc at last !

I'm glad it's smaller - it kinda keeps CR as the main focus of the resort (which is what I worried would be lost with BLT). In fact, I told my mom when we went by that it's small enough that they could easily build a 2nd one on the other side of CR .........:rolleyes1

think that is coming for the south wing too.
spiceycat
07-30-2008, 02:14 PM
it is smaller.
the north wing was more spread out - but if the BLT was build in the entire area that the north wing was - some of the views from CR would be blocked by it.
not a good situation.
this works quite well - with no blocking of the views from CR.

No I agreee. When I was there in June I was observing it from inside the main building (where the shops are??) Anyway I thought it looked smaller than in the pics, but perhaps this is not such a bad thing? I do not think they would want it to overshadow the CR since that was the very first resort. Kidani is a whole other story.....

Has anyone seen any activity on the south wing? (That's the side that still has the old wing, right? The south?) Has the building been knocked down yet? I just don't see them adding a new, pretty building on one side and leaving the old wing on the other. Looking at all 3 together they'd just look bad. They have to be planning something on the other side of CR to even out the appearance.

My guide told me that he thought the whole complex was going to be a multi-level diving platform, with a huge pool in the center, or maybe just a Super Walmart. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Seriously, when pressed he just said that all Disney would say is that it is an expansion of the Contemporary Resort. I then said...yes, but is it a hotel or DVC expansion. He then repeated that ALL Disney had said was that it was an expansion of the Contemporary Resort.
He also put me on the list for "Future resorts." :sad2:

Anyone hear about possible 'THEMES' for decor? I was thinking that many families with small ones will want to stay here (MONORAIL! MK!), but maybe not be thrilled for their kids if BLT retains completely 'contemporary' theming? :confused3

I was there last week and wondering about the theme myself. I hope it follows the theme of the last renovation-less 70's modern and more urban chic.
I asked guides about "the bldg that Disney seems to treat as a figment of my imagination." I suggested adding a quick "Flash" of the proposed building sketches on the Journey Into the Imagination ride. I could just hear all the DVCer's whispering "did you see that??" I also proposed the new name of "Figment Towers".
I was basically told that their job will be easier when an annoucement of some sort is made. I can be put on a list to be notified when any announcement is made and that CM's have not been given any info themselves yet. The reason given was that if a guide named BLT as a future DVC and then for some reason it was given back to the Contemporary, there would be legal problems with people saying BLT was the only reason they bought into DVC. I am just repeating what I heard. Kind of same old, same old.
I took some pics but only with my phone. Not sure if I know how to post but I will try.

It's actually going to be one of the smallest DVC resorts, the official filings to Florida's Dept of Business stated 281 units total. I think SSR has ~850 rooms for a frame of reference.
