Just wanted to show everyone that just because you have one of those apple phone doesn't mean you are the only ones who can browse and post to the DIS boards. if I read one more time about how great they are I will go nuts. I am hearing many stories about the devices locking up and full restores are needed, crashing apps all around.
Back to your normal DIS activities.

As far as mobile productivity goes the Blackberry is still top of the hill. Even with all their fancy “apps” the iPhone can not touch the enterprise deployment ability of the Blackberry, especially if you are running the BlackBerry Enterprise Server middleware package. I work in I.T. and don’t know anyone who has implemented the iPhone enterprise-wide.

I love the iPhone and would get one in a heartbeat, but AT&T's iPhone plan prices are ridiculous. We're currently on US Cellular, and for a 700 minute national family plan with two lines and unlimited text messaging on one of them (mine, obviously ;)) we are paying ~$75/month. My dad, who gets a BlackBerry from his work, has had the I.T. dept. tell him what his monthly phone bill would be if he was paying for it... a few months ago when he was in China, India, and Germany for a month combined, his bill was almost $600!! :scared1:  :scared1:
I personally don't see any advantage of having an iPhone or BlackBerry over a regular phone except being able to check and respond to your e-mails and browse the web on-the-go. If you wanted to take your e-mails and the Internet with you, you could use and iPod Touch and connect to a WiFi network. That's what I use, and I am completely satisfied. :thumbsup2

By the way, I still think the iPhone is better the BlackBerry.
I used to surf the DIS on my n95 too, and on my k800 before that, most phones can pretty much do it :)

Say what you will, we :) our I-phones. Would never go back to our old Trio. Liked me Blackberry but it doesn't compare to the apps. on my I-phone. To each his/her own.
oh yes, people who don't have iPhones hate them, and do anything to rationalize how their own phone is better, I should know, I spent nearly 12 months doing it with my n95. Since getting my 3g iPhone a few weeks back tho, my first ever Apple product, I'm fully converted :)
I do however, fully realise it's limitations and faults, but so far for me the pros have outweighed the cons :)

I have a Crackberry thru work and DIS all the time. In fact if it were for being to come here I don't know how I survive some meetings. Heck, you would all be reading about how some woman in NJ just snapped during a business meeting.

I like my iPod touch, but I hate trying to type on the thing. I use it to browse sites and listen to music/podcasts for the most part.

AT&T reception isn't all that hot up here in Philly... when the iPhone starts becoming available through other service providers...then I will take a look at it. Until then I'm okay w/ my Blackberry Pearl (or as my coworker calls it... my Pinkberry!:thumbsup2) .

I'm an avid blackberry user, and have been DIS'ing on it for years. That said, the web functionality is seriously lacking. Its usable in a pinch however. My wife now has the Instinct and it does everything an Iphone does and is 30 bucks less per month. The only thing it doesn't have is WiFi, and in my area the data is twice the speed as the iphone. It doesn't have a little apple on it though, so people don't wait in line to get one.

Really? I have great service from home to King of Prussia.
I love my iPhone. I'm not an Apple Nazi, but the interface is super awesome. Plus having Internet everywhere is so freaking cool.
As a graphic designer, I can't do any work, besides email, on a phone. So it's my all in one toy.
I only have wi-fi at home, so a iTouch just wouldn't do it for me.
Kevin, how's the coverage in the parks?

I have a blackberry pearl and love it. Just got the Itouch and it's neat...love all the features, but it's frustrating when I can't pick up a wifi signal. It appears to be everything the Iphone is but it's 8G instead of 3G. Not sure if I would like this as a phone. Sometimes the touch is too sensitive and sometimes not sensitive enough.
But with my blackberry I can do everything (except listen to podcasts!) I too have no issues with AT&T coverage and I live in Berks County and travel to the outskirts of King Of Prussia for my job. Very few spots where I lose signal!

Hey Pixistix. We do the same commute! I take it you are on 422 everyday? I'm coming from Boyertown, heading into KofP. I'm in the Renaissance Park buildings, if you know where that is.
8G is the size of your touch. 3G is the network the phones are getting the data from.
If i see you stuck in traffic with me, I'll wave ;>

I love my Blackbeery. Blackberry has a 3g phone coming soon.(Blackberry Bold). The Iphone is good, but I like having a phone that not every other person has. So many people have the Iphone that it's lost all appeal to me. But, I will not speak badly about it. If you like it, then that;s all that matters.

You just said some VERY substantial advantages of a BlackBerry over s standard phone. Access to e-mail and Internet is a HUGE advantage. And it can be done anywhere there is standard phone service, not just in a special WiFi hot spot.
I'm not saying these are life and death differences, but to say that these differences are inconsequential ignores the obvious.

I currently have a Treo and have been waiting for the company I work for to 'support' the iPhone. I just ordered it last Friday and it hopefully will be waiting for me when I get home the end of next week.
My biggest problem w/ the Treo is it doesn't work in Europe - which means I had to go buy a prepaid global phone that I have been using since January while out of the country.
Also, I like the idea of only having to travel w/ one gadget, instead of currently the global phone, the treo and an ipod.

Dh and I are in the Fort Washington area and he commutes to Philly on SEPTA. We used to have AT&T and there is a HUGE dead spot on the R5 Doylestown line between Fern Rock to just past Jenkintown. Service goes in and out and it drives both dh and I NUTS!
Dh used to work in the 'burbs and I worked in the city...now he's there and I commute to Chesterbrook every day. Verizon really has been the most reliable network for us.
Someday when the iPhone is available on Verizon maybe I'll give up my Pinkberry! ;)

I can fully get on DIS and pretty much everything else on the internet, see pics, pull up menus, etc. from my Centro. Came in really handy on the last day of our ttrip last year when deciding where to eat. I have had no problems at all with it except for the touchscreen: one of the touchscreen options while using it as a phone (what a novel concept) is hangup. I touch it with my face all of the time and hangup on people!

Just one comment on the AT&T network. We had Cingular when they were bought out by AT&T. Loved the Cingular coverage...HATED the AT&T coverage. Lots of dead spots, etc. We switched to Verizon.
Fast forward a few years. We bit the bullet and switched back to AT&T when we got our iPhones and I am the first to admit how much it has improved in our area. It is a very significant improvement. So, all this to say, it might be worth asking about what they have done in your area in the last couple of years to remove the dead spots.
On the phone topic..DH has a Blackberry for work. He was very happy with it, over other choices they had in the past, until he got an iPhone for his personal phone. Now the Blackberry feels clunky in most aspects comparatively. I love my iPhone.
The good news is, if you don't, there are lots of other choices out there for you. No need to get all bothered by folks who choose differently.

this area is so large, every carrier must have a good spot and bad spots. At&t coverage is more impressive than our tmobile (but that did improve over the contract).
I still hit an occasional dead zone. But it's usualy In hilly areas when I'm out the sticks.
Still loving my phone as I post away at work:)

LOL!!!
I felt the exact same way. I loved my Blackberry and thought how stupid are these iPhone people. Then I played with one.
Well, now I am a proud owner of a iPhone 3G. I thought websurfing was easy before; but, I had no idea of what it COULD be like.
I must admit, for the first three days the keyboard (or lack thereof) annoyed me. Now that I have grown used to it, the keyboard on my wife's Blackberry annoys me.

See, that's the thing...I attempted to type a message at the AT&T store on an iPhone, and it just wasn't working for me. Considering the fact that I'm a text-aholic, I just wasn't comfortable getting something that I knew I'd go crazy trying to text with even if only at first.

The keyboard does take a bit of getting used to...but after that....you'll wonder how you ever did it the other way.
that's so true!! When I first tried it in the o2 store, I couldn't do it at all, but once I got my own it took me only a few days to get used to it! And the auto correct works brilliantly, useful for someone with chubbier fingers like mine
