I just got an email that there is a rumor going around that Disney ticket prices are going to go up on Sunday August 3rd. No confirmation from Disney, but that's the rumor flitting around, wanted to let you know in case anyone needs to get park tickets like me.

They usually raise prices every August. I wouldn't expect this year to be any different. Thanks for the heads up though!

Yea, I know, but I've been procrastinating buying my tickets for October, so I thought I'd warn my fellow procrastinators out there. :teeth:

I'm with ya WaltD4Me!! When it comes to Disney, never put off til tomorrow, what you can buy today! Because tomorrow, the price is probably going to be higher. I hope they don't raise the prices too high for all of those with fall trips planned. The stroller price increases don't really bode well for ticket price increases!

so the prices are MAYBE getting higher from August? or just for the month of August?

Bought my MYW w/PH for December 2009 last week. I got $20 off with the special link. So I saved $ with the link and 2-3 price increases. :cool1: I've used them before without any trouble. Rec'd my ticket in about 3-4 days.

Disney usually raises it's ticket prices for the coming year the first week of August. Then they will release the new room rates as well. Sometimes there's a price increase in January also for tickets.

I buy them at undercover tourist thru a msavers link. PM your email address and I'll send you the special link.

They don't expire until 14 days after your first use. Same with an AP. I bought my AP 17 months early.

is that just a basic magic your way ticket? I am thinking of getting our tickets through undercover tourist because we are just buying a 4 day magic your way base ticket (no park hopper) and through UT we can get 2 extra days added to our ticket which will give us a 6 day ticket.

so I was wondering if those other two free days will expire after a certain time (14 days maybe?) or if they will remain available for use at a later time? :confused3

No, all the days expire 14 days after first use. You don't receive a 4 day ticket and a seperate 2 day ticket. You get one 6 day ticket for the same price as a 4 day ticket, so you can't save any of the days, they all expire 14days after you first use them.

It will be just like a 6 day ticket. They will expire 14 days from first use. My DH bought one last year for our up coming trip in October.

The only place that I found them was at Disney which you can order online. You then a get a voucher to exchange for an AP when you actually get to Disney.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong....You could go ahead and purchase a how many ever day ticket now thru the discounted UCT. Then when you get to Disney, you can apply that toward an AP. That could save you a bit.

Only Disney knows. I can guess that it will be around $5-$7 increase on a one day. So it would pro-rate on 2 day, 3 day, and so on.

I'm really hoping the price increase doesn't happen until after I find out if I am going on strike and after I get back from my vacation which I'm leaving for Saturday morning. If they don't hold off, I hope the AP price doesn't go up too much.

I was thinking about that, but then I realized, won't they just apply whatever I paid to the current price of the AP when I upgrade? So then I wouldn't save anything at all. Maybe I should just buy the AP now and hold onto it till next year.

I don't think they apply the price you paid but the price you would've paid if you had bought it from Disney. I think. :confused3

I bought my AP from Disney two years ago right before the price increased. I held on to it for 16 months before I used it. If you have the funds ~ do it.

I believe before the last 3 or 4 price increases Disney made the "official" announcement of the price increase a few days before it kicked in. It gives anyone thinking about purchasing park tickets the chance to buy them at the cheaper price.

If tickets do go up this Sunday it wouldn't surprise me if the "official" announcement came this Thursday or Friday giving folks a chance to buy their tickets at the cheaper price.

Hmm, if that is the case, then I would do that. But I thought they had the ability to scan them and see what you paid. Maybe we'll just try to buy an AP now to be safe. We won't need them till next August or so, but might as well beat the increase since we'll need to buy one for my son at that point!:scared:

I am wondering if they will change the pricing on the options since PI will be closed. I have heard rumors to that effect, and last time there were price increase rumors I didn't hear anything about options. This time I heard that along with the price increase they may or may not be changing price of options.

If you take an unused ticket to Guest Services to upgrade to an AP, they will give you what you paid for it. However, if you go through the turnstiles and then go to Guest Services (either that day or sometime during your trip), Disney will give you the current Disney selling price of that ticket toward the upgrade to an AP.

Here's Chesire Figment's sticky "Everything about WDW Tickets" which explains it: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1452684

Depending on the AP increase amount, it may be more cost effective to buy the AP now and hold it until you need it, versus buying a discounted ticket and upgrading it later.

Thanks! That was really helpful.

I do have a question that I could probably figure out on my own, but can't seem to do at the moment. ;) Based on the above info, would it be economical to buy the 3 day MYW hopping ticket from Undercover Tourist, where you get 3 days free, then use the ticket and upgrade from a 6 day to an AP? Or would Disney just consider it a 3 day ticket? Or would the price increase on the APs in a year's time defeat any savings of buying the 3 day hopper from UT?

Sorry, that probably sounds crazy! Now I know why I can't figure it out!

ETA: I guess it would be the same as buying a 6 day ticket so I could buy that and it would eliminate the thought that Disney might only credit a 3 day ticket. But still, would I save that way cause I'd still end up paying the current price for the AP when I upgrade?

Just my two cents, but I really wonder if Disney will raise their prices....with the economy being the way it is? I know that they are booked solid, but why? Because of all of the discounts that they offered. Disney really needs to think if that is a smart move....I think that this may be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

My info tells me that the ticket prices will be changing.. along with the underlying structure of how the tickets are assembled with options and sold.

One rumor indicates that the Waterpark fun and more option will be replaced with a Recreation OPtion that includes the waterparks, minigolf, regular golf, watermice rental options etc.

We'll know what the reality is on Friday.

Well if they're possibly changing the 'options' package it sounds to me like they're trying to find a way to increase the options price. "Let's offer stuff noone really uses much like mini golf, add in the water mice and all that should offset the PI closing. Then let's jack the price up."

Sorry, I'm just ranting b/c I'm so sick of the steep increases in ticket prices. The straw was on this camel's back already - but this increase will be breaking it.

Is there somewhere to buy annual pass vouchers online? If I don't go on strike I will be able to go online to buy my AP voucher. I won't be able to make it to the only Disney Store within 150 miles. If only they could hold off on the price increase for a week or so.

I'm kind of stuck, I have a MYW package booked with an 8 day base ticket. The package is through CRO and paid in full.

We just became DVC members and wanted to upgrade the 8 day tickets to AP's and use the DVC discount.

But I can't do that until I check in. Grrrr. :headache: I called GS and they said they only way to do it over the phone would be to cancel my current package (free dining) and book a new package then I could apply the DVC discount to my AP's. :confused3 Makes no sense to me.

Hopefully the price doesn't go up that much. :scared:

Don't worry -- it's not that bad! What you would do is go through the turnstiles once to actually activate the ticket and then go to Guest Services inside the park to do the upgrade. The reason being is that if you upgrade before activation your existing ticket will have the value of what it cost when you purchased it...when you upgrade after it's been activated, it's value is whatever that current days price is. So, even though the price of your AP might be higher -- your ticket has a higher value to be applied to it.

Of course, this is only valid information as long as Disney doesn't change the upgrade procedures. What you might want to do is just go to GS outside the park first and simply ask what the value of your current ticket is. Then when you do the upgrade inside the park you'll know if the policy is still the same. As a matter of fact, it could be that if you wait and do the upgrade on the last day of your 8-day MYW ticket, the anniversary date of the AP might fall on that day (vs. day 1). That might help you next year as it would give you just a few more days to get another trip in before it expires...but double check on that one though as I'm not positive.

They'll backdate the AP to the first date the 8-day ticket was used, unfortunately.

You mean the rewards you get with your Disney Visa? If so, yes...because you would transfer your rewards to the Rewards Card and it would pretty much be the same as using a giftcard. You'd just go to GS and have them apply the value of your 1-day MYW towards the price of the AP, and then use the Disney Rewards card to pay for the difference.

I saw this on the DVCNews site :

The official DVC website DVCMember.com has apparently jumped the gun on the increase in Annual Pass prices. The site currently lists fees which are about $20 higher than those being charged to actually purchase the pass.

Assuming that the fees on DVCMember.com will be in effect on August 3rd, here is a rundown of the current and future Annual Pass prices

Current Price Revised Price
Annual Pass (Adult) $348 $369
Annual Pass (Child) $307 $326
Premium Annual
Pass (Adult) $454 $474
Premium Annual
Pass (Child) $400 $418

The above prices do not include tax or shipping.

Passes can still be ordered at the listed "current" price. To do so, visit DVCMember.com. Click on Member Priviledges / Member Perks / Walt Disney World / Walt Disney World Annual Pass Savings. Within that page is a link to the on-line Disney ticket store which presently displays the amounts listed above under "Current Price."

I've checked dvcmember.com for myself under perks and the revised prices are indeed posted as of 6:38am eastern time. Sorry for the formatting of the table above. I can't figure out how to get it lined up. The first price is the current price, the second price is the new price.

CanadianGuy hasn't come back to this thread, but a number of other threads have pointed out that prices ARE increasing across the board on tickets. 3-8% on base MYW, $5 more for park hopper, etc.

CG has a nice list in this thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1906187).

I went to the Disney site to order a couple MYW child passes to cover our April trip, but since its that far away and we were going in October I didn't want any confusion and wanted them mailed - but the online site didn't give a mailing option (it listed it as possible, but you couldn't select it).

So I was going to order from DreamsUnlimitedTravel, but the order form had a big "We can't guarantee these prices...", which made it sound like our order might not get processed before the prices changed...sorry guys...

I called WDW directly, and was able to get them mailed to me. I also asked about 2009 room rates. She said room only rates have already been released (but online it still stops at Dec. 31st 2008), and package rates will be released Sunday.
