View Full Version : Interest Thread: The Flocking Flock swap

Since everyone that has flocked enjoyed their flock, I suggested in the Sports & More swap thread that maybe we could have a swap where our elements needed to be flocked in some way. This would provide an excuse to go out and buy more flock. AWM thought this was super, and Disney Is Terrific liked the idea too.

So I was thinking one element only, or if people prefer one + photo mat (I wouldn't require the mat be flocked) I know we are coming up to the busy part of the year, and I think we could all use a smallish swap.

Signups in October, due 1st half of December. Or I could wait to do this next year, if people think they have too much going on.

I would have groups of 5 or 6 with groups for

Disney
Christmas
Holiday (except Christmas)
Everyday Life

would people like Halloween separated out too?

Comments, suggestions?

Lol at your DD. For Halloween, black cats could certainly be flocked. And spider s, maybe bats. Or something on the Paper Doll kids costumes.

Well I love the flocking Christmas tree idea. I'm hoping to get my complete page layouts done to include a flocked tree and flocked stocking.
I almost flocked thet trees on my camping/hiking sports groups, but then I came to my senses and realized I don't have time to that.

I just know I will be finding spiders while I move stuff today and I don't think my "itching to flock a spider" will have the same meaning at that point in time.

If I can get flock I'll be in :thumbsup2 And DS(8) loved the teddy pics so we could have a kids group maybe and give them a mix of everything (because I don't know about yours, but a page or two per topic (non-Disney) is generally the max!)

I'm not sure how much room I'll have in your box, but I could try to fit a few in there. We can figure out $$ stuff later. What colors were you interested in and did you want the thinner or thicker kind?

Where do you all find this flock stuff? I've seen the things you've flocked here but I've been so busy that I haven't heard where or what to look for.

I'm always up for new techniques but I'm swamped the rest of this year. If we do it this year, can we have another next year also?

I've found the Fun Flock brand at Archivers and the Doodlebug brand at my LSS. The Doodlebug is shorter fibers and looks more like crushed velvet (thanks for that description Susan) and the Fun Flock is longer fibers that look more fuzzy.

My LSS has Fun Flock. They are having a 20% off everything in the store sale today and this weekend so I went by there this morning and got more colors. I'm now ready to play!!!!!

I am doing the same - although I can't go for classes or crops I am stopping in at the trade show Friday on my way to a family reuinion camping trip for the weekend in the poconos. I am hoping to see this flock in action!

I've found Doodlebug stockists - they do an assortment of colours for about £10, but are the bottles too tiny to be used for a swap? Should I just get a few bigger bottles (although that involves making a decision ;) )

I've already decided on baubles for Christmas, as its all I have on my cutter, and possibly a cat or pumpkin for Halloween (so I'll need a big black or orange:thumbsup2 )

What other groups might we have?

i bought the variety pack with the little bottles. because i so could not make decisions.

The Fun Flock jars are .25 ounces (7.08 g). I made seven 3 inch teddy bears with it (covering their entire heads and bodies) and used maybe a little over 1/8th of the flock in the jar. I've got lots left.

Well, what kind of groups would you like?

I can add a kids group. What about animals?

I bought more flock yesterday when I was at Archivers.:rolleyes1

Is the animals group idea just for the kids? I'd like an animals group!!!!

The kids group will be "Anything Goes", as per Mazda's suggestion. Animals is for big kids.

I know this is a stupid question but How do you apply the Flock? This sounds cute. Do you apply it like glitter?

I used the Doodlebug crushed velvet flock
I ran the piece through the xyron so the top was sticky. I dumped some flock on top -- it is humid here and the stuff really clumps together. Then I used my finger to spread it around . I tried tapping the excess off, but I really need to rub the excess off - -again humidity may be a factor. I tried my quickie glue pen for a small corner that I missed with the xyron -- it didn't work well at all.

Clean up -- it was fascinating really. I just used a piece of computer paper to catch the excess. I dumped it into the jar. When I looked at the paper, it seemed to have a slight coating of flock. I rubbed at it again with my fingers and made a significant pile! Enough to dump back into the jar.
