View Full Version : What about a trip to DisneyLand?(Bringing out our Inner Child °O° December 3-7 '09)
Jenroc and I have been talking about a trip to Disneyland. She knows this is a something that I really want to do by the end of 2009. She has talked me into posting it and seeing who else would like to go at the same time. (Rebecca, Jen said you will be going, since we will meet in Atlanta and fly out together :rotfl: and anyone else).
Jen thought that the end of November would be a good time, granted that is our Thanksgiving, but what about into the beginning of December? I am thinking that this would be a fun time, with the overlay for the HM with The Nightmare Before Christmas and also for IASW. Things they do not do at WDW. Again, its just a thought at the moment. I am limited on going in May and June because I should be out of the country.
So I am looking for some input.

I recommend going late Nov or early Dec. I was there right after Xmas...literally 2 days after...in 06 and it was insane!!
Woud those who are going in Oct 09 to WDW feel that that is too close to that trip to go around the end November/early December? That is the time I am really considering :)

I am sure that would be fine.
I've never been to DL and might be interested in joining the trip if I can scrounge up the funds. It is starting to appear as though 2009 will be the Year of Disney for me with the Oct 09 Singles Trip already in the works.

Oh, that sounds like a great idea! Do you think the other passengers will mind that we'll be watching Disney movies and singing Disney tunes during the flight?
By the way, I'm very curious where the best burger and fries joint is located in London. I guess that I know what I'll be having when I finally make that work trip out there later this summer...

Sha, perhaps Jenroc and I can swing past Atlanta to pick you up -- and we can all fly together from there. **now trying to figure out how much DL trip might cost**

It is in a little beach town called Port Stanley. They have been around for almost 100 yrs and in all the yrs my mom has been going (and she is no spring chicken) nothing has changed. The food is great for a beach front mom and pop restaurant. And best of all .... the family that runs it are HUGE Disney fanatics !!!

I'm sure there's much more. I'll be like Rocky Balboa soon...training like mad! *cue up Gonna Fly Now*

Am not probably doing the May trip as I am hoping/planning to be going to England/Ireland and return to Germany in May and June. Not sure what is happening there as we do not have any date info from that group. Not sure how its going to work. Only would be able to do May trip if it was earlier than what we did last year, but we delayed it a week because of Mother's Day.

Right now I'm game for a nap. It's omg-degrees outside when you're sitting in the sun watching back-to-back softball games on metal bleachers with no backrests and ....
I know, I know...waaaaahhh
But, hey, we won the 1st game and tied the 2nd (it's a rec league...not competitive)! :)
And got my other DD off to the wedding of her friend (and she better hope to get a ride home...my taxi duties for the day are over. lol)

Much better today, thanks! A massage sounds good and there's a place near where I live that is a salon for men and I went there several months ago and had a full body massage. That was great. Need to do that again.

I have only had the ones at Blue Bayou and they also put in turkey and ham, though I ask them to leave the ham out. But what really gets me is the sandwich is huge and very filling, yet they also serve it with a salad AND scalloped potatoes...at lunchtime. It is enormous. I usually just eat the sandwich and wish they would offer an ala carte version.

LOL Joe I think you have a client!
I have the recipe from there, but never had one... its in my Disney cookbook :goodvibes

Yes, the one at Cafe Orleans is a la carte!!! And the plain cheese one is soooo good. It uses some cheeses I wouldn't normally eat, but together they are just plain yummy!!

ok good to know...I love Blue Bayou but I think you are kind of paying for the atmosphere there. I had to cancel our Blue Bayou ADR when we there in March, we couldn't make it on time...wish I would have realized I could get a monte cristo at Cafe Orleans. I will remember that for next time.

Well, you all are busy little bees today. . .me? well I am getting ready to head to bed and I decided to check September airfares to MCO. . .
218.50 (nonstop) on USAirways for me, including tax. . .add a "cheap" onsite hotel room (for me that is ASMu at AP rates except for last night there) and I have myself a trip to the world during my planned September vacation. Grand total was 672.50 (hotel and airfare. ..already have the AP). Now you can't beat that for a vacation. . .lol. (or should I say ANOTHER vacation)
Dates are Sept 23 (arriving very late) to Sept 29 (leaving very early).

Sounds like a plan :thumbsup2 This what we can do, since Ants has the bigger vehicle, she can drive to MD/VA to pickup GMAX, ACM, MouseCop and I, then we head to KY and pick you up. Thelma and Louis just added more ppl to our road trip. :hyper: :car:
you sure about this T ?? My car My music.... unless someone takes over the wheel.. BTW I can only feet comfortably in that car.. but if we take the back seat.. it hold a very comfortable full size futon with microwave and a 1 shirt washing machine hahahaha have to put the roof rack again if we are bringing bags and color.. but then it can also pull a small UHAUL if you want.. anybody got a boat????????????
Care and I are starting our road trip in Canada, so we can swing east and grab the rest of you guys before we head down to get KY and do our spa day. Then we can head to Atlanta and head to Anaheim from there !!! ;) I think we are looking at an RV by now !!
I do happen to have a couple of GB of sounds from the parks and other Disney music. It would easily fill up my iPod Nano I keep in my car!! :-)
EDIT: Oh, no spa appt yet. Perhaps after Disney when I'll need it more! lol
hmmm if you want all 4 parks.. plus the Party events CD.. I can make you some and we can forget about the grass cutting in exchange of laundray... plus the POC CD..

There is actually very little benifit to staying onsite, infact many of the hotels on Harbor are actually closer to the entrance than the DL hotel. In fact I have never stayed onsite at DL, as I haven't been able to justify the extra cost, this is very different from WDW.
Yes I have traveled and you?

Mark I have thought about it, but trying to figure it all out for this trip. I am reading a thread that Gregg suggested to figure some things out, but may not be staying or at others on property. Still researching. Also waiting for the other groups trip (big guys) to hear about some things.

The stones are all in the esplade between the gates of DL and DCA. For Hotels, I would Honestly recommend the Howard Johnson, I have stayed there a couple of times pre dog. Very nice rooms, clean, good price 1/2 mile from the hotel to the entrance gates. There are closer hotels, but they are not as nice or are way more expensive.

okay... from some of the posts I have read and from PMs I have gotten there are some tentative dates to consider for the trip. I would love to do earlier in the year, but that isnt going to happen for this particular one, as I am paying for 2 trips overseas in May and June. (Plus there is a friend who is getting married in April at WDW. ) I am hoping that a couple other Disfriends might be making this trip but it again would have to be later in the year for them.
the weekend before Thanksgiving (Nov 20-23, 2009)
the weekend after Thanksgiving/1st weekend of December (Dec 4-7, 2009)
the 2nd weekend of December (Mousefest) (Dec 11-14th, 2009)
the problem for me with the weekend of Mousefest is I have a meeting other friends at WDW from another thread (but willing to miss that, but is also a week closer to Christmas). And the weekend before Thanksgiving is 3 weeks after the October trip with everyone that might be going there, that might be too much $$$
I do what some input on these dates of who might be interested and when.

No I haven't listened to messages yet, will do so in a bit on the way to the games tonight.
The place I usually stay is on left below the lines of hotels listed it isn't that great a place, but they let me have my dog there. It is called the Anahiem Plaza Hotel.

In 2007 I stayed at the Howard Johnston's that Greg shows on the map. It was very clean, nice rooms, reasonably priced and a stone throw away from the parks. Lots of restaurants in the area and because the hotel is situated at a 3 way traffic light, the sidewalk was well lit at night for walking back (5-10 mins depending how slow you are after a day at one of the parks) to the hotel when the parks close.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: There are other minor things I might need (money, a babysitter, etc) but as for a date I mean a day in which the premier would be happening !! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I was actually planning on staying at the HJ again this year and I booked a 2 floor penthouse for only $99.00/night  in November for a 10 day trip because I booked so far in advance. I believe 4 people could stay there comfortably and at $25/per night/person I don't think you could find a much better deal.:confused3

... couldn't you still show me the stone?
Sure. Here's the story behind it. When I left the Steamers, my Dad had just retired from teaching and was looking for something to do. He asked me one day, "do you think they'd hire me?" I replied, "One way to find out." He got hired to the Steamers the same year I left, and for about 4 years we both worked at D/L at the same time. After I moved east the first time (1981) he went on to do another 10 years, and loved every minute of it. So I bought a stone with both out names on it.
...Wish one would you recommend? ...
I've stayed at the Grand Californian and the D/L Hotel, but not the Pacific. For me, I think I'd go back to the D/L hotel, and get a room facing to Park to see the fireworks. The benefit, besides not needing a car and walking to the Park, is if I buy anything in the Park, they'll deliver it back to the room and I don't have to drag it around all day. So if I see something I want as I pass by it, I can get it, instead of trying to remember everything interesting and then run around in a giant souvenir sweep at the end of the day. But I do understand that cost is an issue, so we gotta consider that.
I wonder if we know anyone with a membership in Club 33 that would invite us to lunch?
I think JetBlu has some low fares to Orange County (my preference) and LAX. Or Southwest.

For those of you budget minded, the HOward Johnson across the street is really great, very walkable, and has entertainment card rates as low as $59 a night during December!!! It is clean, comfy, and usually a great price!!
The ladies only trip stayed there this past April with a HUGE block of rooms, and there is plenty of restaurants on the way to/from the park!! Us DLers really love this hotel and the staff is great. I highly recommend if you don't want to stay onsite!!!

Yep, stay here all the time!! It really is a great place, about a 5-7 minute walk depending how fast you walk and if you catch the crosswalk light or have to wait. Anywho, if you call directly and ask for the entertainment card rate, like I said I usually get $59 a night. If you share a room, it's such a sweet deal!!! Most others on Harbor vary from $89 - 129 a night, and that's the normal rate for HOJO if you don't have the card!!

Sorry guys, crazy night!! After I was on, heard this HUGE crash in kids room!! The entire closet shelving unit fell, and on the top shelf I had boxes (very heavy) that I haven't moved in over 5 years. Well they came tumbling down, hit the mirrored closet doors, broke them and there was glass all over!!! It was insane!! So I had to remove the doors from the tracks and they are beyond repair!!
I am so thankful no one was standing in front of the closet at the time. Just can't understand why it all of a sudden came down. Weird.
SO I had to clean up all of that, and by the time I made it back to the computer 2 hours later, everyone was gone!!
And you all thought I had probably fallen asleep, didn't you??? I wish!! :rotfl2:

I don't think any of us would have come up with that.
"What do you think happened to Matty?"
"You know what I think, I think she had too much stuff on a shelf in her closet and it came crashing down right through the glass doors and made a huge mess. That is what I think"

Okay, a girl wanders away from the boards for a day or so, and comes back to see pages and pages of posts. I've got so much to catch up on...
Matty, I'm glad that you're okay. Hopefully nothing in the boxes was too damaged to be saved.
KY... Want a cookie? I've got some yummy ones here on the kitchen table. Chewy oatmeal with lots of raisins and walnut pieces. :)
Good evening, everyone! :wave2: Hope you've all had a good day.

I checked with my new boss and, providing I still have my job there next year, I would have no trouble with going to DLR for Dec 4 - 7, 2009. The other 2 weekends are out for me. I hope this works for everyone else !!!!Thanks for your post. Sheesh, took a bit of searching to find this last reference to when. For me it's a bit early to plan, but I think I'll be at DLR 5-12 December 2009, or there abouts.:goodvibes

It's about 15 min. from my house to the airport (SDF). BTW, our airport abbreviation is because it used to be called Standiford Field. Now it's the Louisville International Airport. But, uh, good luck getting an international flight unless you're taped up in a box on a UPS plane!! :rotfl:
