I don't know if anyone has heard about this but, when shopping for some new shoes I found out that Nike is sponsoring a 10k on August 31, 08. Here is the good part of it. You don't have to travel anywhere to do this race. You can do it at your local track or walking trail. Once you are done, you go onto Nike's website and log in your time to see how you fair with everyone else. This is a nationwide event so any and all are welcomed.

Just thought you all might want to know.

Have a great training day!
Bryan

hey Bryan,

I'm registered for this!!! Doing it in the UK, around my village because i can't get down to london for the official race. It's weird doing a virtual race- might go on the hunt for some virtual crowd members :rotfl: Can't quite bring myself to add myself on the races and events thread- it doesn't seem like a real race! Are you doing it?

On August 31st I will be doing my own version of the 10k.... the disneyland 1/2 marathon. So I will be doing some extra miles. hehe:lmao:

Hi. I actually picked up a pamphlet they had in Starbucks for this. At first glance though, I thought you needed the nike sports ban thingy to register? I'd be interested if that wasn't req'd.?

Stacey - nope you don't need the Nike thingy. We're still trying to decide if we want to do the one here.

You don't have to have anything. The only thing, really, that you would need to do to make it count is to go to Nike.com and register for the Human Race. You can make a donation to one of the charities listed if you would like but it isn't necessary. Then, on August 31st, go out and do your 10k and then report your time. I will actually be at the beach that weekend but I have already told my buddy that I will be with that he will need to give me about 90 minutes to take care of this. I am pretty excited about this one too. If anyone would like too, once you get you finished with your 10k, we can come back here and compare as well. That is if we can still find this thread.

Well, let's get out there and have some fun!!

Bryan:cheer2: :woohoo:

just wondering, what kind of armbands you are using if you do have the ipod/chip...I'm having trouble finding one that's open at the bottom so the chip can be attached????

Angie: I have a New Balance one and I have the Nike sportband which both have an opening at the bottom for the attachment. You should be able to pick up a sportband at either Olympia or Dicks in the shoe department. Look for the sensors and they usually have the sportbands right nearby.

Oh I thought I needed the Sportband or the iPod chip to participate. Well, I'm heading over to register :)

Tracy - I signed up for the Nike 10k too! I figured I will be running the DL 1/2 with my Nike plus anyway so I might as well log it with Nike and get credit for the 10k too! Do you think they'll give me extra credit for the extra mileage??? :lmao:

Uh Tracy & Michelle, the plan is to finish the Half, and then drive to downtown LA to run the 10K that evening. Bring your Garmin and your Nike+ w/Ipod. :rotfl2:

I'm registered to run it as well. I'll probably do the 5K cross country trail at my local park twice. Did you see the blurb that when you register you're supposed to get a free iTunes download? I registered but have no idea how to get my free tunes. Any idea?

I'm all giggles with Jeff, Michelle and Scott.!!:lmao:
OK I will register and log my time for my 10K split and then log the rest of the miles, like you guys said do we get extra credit.

Jeff: I know you are out of your freakin mind, but then again YOU ARE!! I will go take my ice bath after you deliver the fudgecicles and iced towels and then I will scream team you at the 10K later!!! Good Luck :rotfl: !

Tracy (passthepixiedust), my DH and I would LOVE to do a half-marathon in Vancouver some time. I just love your city. I hope we can find one to do sometime.

I think it's great that you can do the Nike 10K there. Hope the weather cooperates for all of us.

Hi! If you ever find one that you want to do here, you'll have to let me know and we can do a mini-DIS meet!

I noticed in your signature that you did a RnR 1/2! How was it? I just read that there is going to be one in Seattle in 09 and am considering making it my first one. Up until this point, I have been strictly a 10k girl. The thought of a half makes me a little nervous! --oops! Just looked and realized that the RnR you are doing isn't until November! I'll be anxious to hear about it!

I will be crossing my fingers for good weather for runners everywhere that day!

That's great! I will be picturing all the people I have "typed to" running it as well! I think the whole idea is a fantastic one by Nike! (Not bad marketing either! I wonder how many people bought Nike+ kits as a result!)

Tracy, there are going to be several WISHers doing the RnR Seattle. I'll probably be doing the half there as well. My DH, Steve wants to do his first full there. You should do it. If you can do a 10k, you can do a half. :thumbsup2

Also, from what I understand, the RnR races are a lot of fun. :)

Jeff: I know you are out of your freakin mind, but then again YOU ARE!!

Tracy & Michelle,

I'm not REALLY doing the 10K that night, I'm just logging my miles from the Half Marathon using my Nike+. I'd rather be enjoying the parks after the race, instead of going over to LA to do their event.

DISNEY is way more important to me. :thumbsup2

Lol! I don't think there is anyone on this board who could argue with that! If I could do it in DL like you, I SO would! I can't wait to do my first Disney race in.... 59 sleeps!

Good luck in the Half Marathon! While I am running the last couple of miles, I will think of you DL Half Marathoners all finished your run, eating Dole Whips and riding Splash Mountain! Then I will probably cry a little....... ;)

Okay, now I am starving! Well, don't feel bad for me, I am sure post race they will give me a half a banana and a powerbar to make up for the lack of Dole Whips..... perhaps I can hit a McDonald's drive through, that is SO just as good as a Monte Cristo and a Dole Whip! Yeah, right.....
