Me- Really knows what it means to live Disney as a LIFESTYLE. Former CM and OCD extraordinaire! I am that person that everyone looks at and says, Disney Again!?!?

Mom- Loves, Loves, Loves Disney…but is a workaholic…to the extreme! The last time she went to Disney was for work. Has recently lost 65lbs and DESERVES this vacation.

Mom and Dad!

Backstory:

So while I was debating what time of year to take my annual Disney trip the offer of free dining came about. I had been dating someone about 7 months and continued to try and convince him we should go in September. He always played along, but never FULLY committed…to the trip or me, lol. Very shortly after breaking up, I decided that my mom would be the perfect person to go with me. She is always whining that I go places without her and it had been since 2002 that we last vacationed to Disney (her, me, and my ex-husband).

Mom also has very recently lost over 65 lbs:cool1: (thanks Jenny Craig!) and a few years back had Gastric Bypass…which makes going for Free Dining VERY interesting!

There is a VERY good reason that mommy and I don’t vacation to Disney very often. Well, 2 very good reasons.

#1 On our last trip we made no less than FIVE  trips to local shoes stores, buying no less than TEN  pairs of shoes…and still never found anything that made Mom’s feet comfy and blister free. Once on a trip to NYC, the same thing happened and she ended up stealing my shoes. We have already invested in one pair of crocs and she will be purchasing another before we leave.

#2 SMOKER…I hate, hate, hate going to the world with a smoker. We always have to find somewhere for her to stop and that inevitably leads to a bathroom break. It ruins my flow…my rhythm.

But my Mom is truly the best:flower3: …she has done everything for me and definitely deserves this trip. I have decided we will just be a bit more laid back and have an actual VACATION, not a marathon.

And as a BONUS, we have joined up with some Diser’s! :disrocks:I am super excited and I think my mom will have a blast.

If she goes…

That’s right, IF!!!:sad2:

The trip is paid for, booked, airfare secured, crocs bought, ADR’s made, crazy OCD binder started, rental car paid for…and she might not be going.

It makes me sad, but I understand. She is in a position at work (the boss) in the middle of implementing a HUGE new system…put it plain and simple, she’s needed.

The thing is, I won’t know until the last minute. The company will reiumburse her for her half. But that leaves me with an unused 7-day ph AND double the dining credits. And I won’t find out in enough time to “replace” her.

So for now, we are praying to the Disney Gods, spreading our pixie dust and counting down the days (46) to our 7-night-shoe-shopping-free-full-of-smoke-breaks-Mother/Daughter-trip-to-Walt-Disney-World!
Our plans so far:

Mom’s favorite highlights:

Just thought I would update a bit.

Not much going on...I still need to book KTTK tour but am afraid that once I do, mom will definitely have to cancel and I'll be stuck. I worked at MK so the tour is definitely not for me!

I am also looking to make a cute invitation to surprise her with the GF tea...not sure yet.

Thanks for everyone's posts!

Wow how cool is that!! I worked at MGM too but not till 01. Where were you? I was a tourguide at GMR.

So today I have some planning to do, but not for me. One of my good friends leaves next week and I want to get a cake for their anniversary dinner at CG.

I am also stuck because the day we decided to do DHS we weren't going to get there until noonish...but if I do that then we might miss the new Toy Story attraction :(

That would be really awesome of you! You could make your own dreams! :rotfl:

I know. It's sad. They're $4k now, but they include 2 APs now. But, they're supposed to go up for the next two years or something like that. Which, we'd be doing an escape wedding, with an at-home reception, to save on money, and just bring our closest family, but with a $10-15k budget, it'll be hard to do much more than $4k. So... :confused3

I know...I don't quite understand it either. I mean you don't get much for $4k...it's still cheaper than a normal wedding although around here you can do it for around $10K. But if you figure $4k or $5k for disney, plus honeymoon and an at home reception you are right back up to $10k. Maybe it would just be better to do a Wishes wedding and invite everyone.

Lol I don't know what I am talking about, I need to find someone to marry first...then I need him to agree to a DFTW:lmao:

Yeah. Well, we did the math, and we could pull off about $12k for a totally at-home thing, about $15k for escape and at-home reception, and then about $20k for a wishes (keeping as close as possible to the 10k minimum, but then adding in the things not included in the mins, but not enough people would be able to even make it, seeing as most of our family is here in Michigan, or over in Canada.

I figure I better get back to the business of writing a pre-trip report.

I am in planning like a madwoman mode...except there is nothing left to plan...but there is stuff left to pay, lol.

What's left:
My half of the final payment (to mommy so I can take my time:rotfl: )
KTTK-$120ish
Car Rental-$175 for a midsize SUV for 8 days including tax :cool1: To be split with mom
Spending money-this will be for tips and stuff for ME!!!

Plus I am going to D.C. next week...so I need to pay for my hotel room for that.

I am also struggling with when to go to DHS. I had planned to not go until noonish since we don't typically spend a whole day there and this let's mom sleep in a bit. BUT I really want to catch Toy Story so I am stuck:confused:

I have the same problem with DHS, I don't really like the park much so I don't have it planned for any Rope Drops. Maybe the first week of Sept won't be too bad and we can get FPs at 12. :)

And planning your ADRs 180 days before you're going to eat the food isn't? :rotfl: There is no silly in Disney planning! Maybe I'll run in the park and grab some Saturday morning 9/6. We're having breakfast @ Cape May's at 8:50, and DHS opens at 8am that day. I wonder how fast I can get there, out, and to Cape May's!

Hi lady :wave2:

Loving the pre-trip report so far! Disney in September is awesome. I've been quite a few times last year and the year before (my birthday is in September, so it's perfect) and every time the lines and crowds have been pretty much nonexistent.

I do hope your mom can go. Here's lots of pixie dust for you and your mom pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Hey girl:upsidedow Thanks for joining my trip report!! I have been with mom before and it's a ton of fun. Who knows you better than your mom, ya know? Hopefully you will be able to a trip with her sooner rather than later.

So nothing really new to updated. I just got back from a weekend in D.C. with my boyfriend Eric. We had fun, but I am exhausted!!

A little over 3 weeks to go! I am getting so excited. My new crocs and bag came in over the weekend. The crocs look HUGE but they are super comfy!!

I am thinking we might just wear some flowery skirts that we already own. There are some super cute dresses out there, but they are soooo expensive. Like this one I love:lovestruc

I think wearing a cute skirt and shirt is a good idea. Easy to pack. Can wear the shirt another time, and you will be comfortable!!

That's a pretty dress. Losing weight can be annoying during the process because you can have weird size measurements depending upon where you're body is losing the weight first.

Oh, and I've decided: I need a sanity break. Can you pack me in your suitcase and take me with you? Please? :flower3:

Right now it's about $47 plus shipping. It's actual not bad, but with all the other costs of the trip I can't justify over $50 for a dress...and I can't find one for my mom and don't want to leave her out.

:thumbsup2 I know that you know that there is plenty of fun stuff to spend money on at Disney so I think that is a wise choice. I always underestimate how much money I'll spend there…the more I arrive with, the better.

But they were pretty dresses. But you'll probably be having too much fun at your tea to be thinking about them on that day.

Ok kids, I need help!!

So I just got mom and I in on an Illuminations cruise...the night of our ADR at Cali Grille. So that is out.

I have two options.

One is pick another 2 credit restaurant for possibly Friday night.

OR pick 2 ONE credit places for Thursday and Friday night.

But I am sure everything is booked. So what's your vote??

Ok so this is my updated Itinerary plus dining. Whatchya think??

Saturday-Technically our flight get's in around 7 p.m. but I am hoping to catch an earlier flight and get there around 1:30. We are having lunch at Earl of Sand. and dinner at Raglan Road. I decided Raglan will be OOP since all I want is Salad and bread and butter pudding!!
AC Dis meet up.

Sunday-AK open, Le Cellier dinner, Illuminations and MAYBE MK after that.

Monday-MK all day with dinner at Kona. We might leave at some point for a break

Tuesday-MGM, dinner at Mama Melroses

Wed-Free Day (although we will probably do EPCOT) dinner at Cape May with Glenda

Thur-KTTK Tour, lunch is included at Columbia Harbor House. Dinner is at Chefs De France with an Illuminations cruise afterwards. Oh that could mean we can skip Illuminations earlier in the week to do late night MK!!!

Fri-EPCOT, Tea at GF and a very late dinner at California Grill. I thought it would be a nice end to the trip

Sat-WE LEAVE:sad1:

OMG I know. I couldn't decide where to make ADR's our last night because I can only picture being at the MK for our last night :( It makes me sad already.

It's a late ressie, but we also have tea that afternoon. I figure all the kids will be gone by then too!

You know - I'm strange... I hardly ever do MK on my last night. :confused3 My last trip I did but that was only because I was at a MNSSHP.

For my planned last night this trip me and my aunt and uncle's nanny, Mary, are taking my little cousins (4 & 5) to 1900 Park Fare while my aunt and uncle have an evening out and then Mary and I will take the kids over to MGM to see the Osborne lights and then back to their hotel (Grand Floridian) where I'm leaving Mary to put the kids to bed and I'm walking over to the Poly beach to watch the Holiday Wishes from the beach with a drink in hand.

I think the California Grill will be a nice place for your last evening. Will you be there to watch Wishes?

Mandy,

I just wanted to tell you that last night I was walking back to my room at BCV from dinner a Spoodles, when I saw a certain young lady on the bridge at the International Walkway. She was taking a picture of what I would guess to be the Boardwalk. When lo and behold what to my eyes spy, but two very distinctive tattoos! Now, I've seen those tats before, but never having met you in person I chose Not to say hello, lest one be thought creepy...or worse. I live in Celebration and have had people approach me because they've seen pics that I post or from my blog, and I'm okay with it, but others being approached...well I didn't know. Preface:

For as long as I can remember I have been captivated by the magic of Disney. While my first Disney memory is when my parents bought Cinderella on Beta. It was a very big deal and was the first Disney movie I owned. But the start of the Disney magic for me happended when I was about seven. On a trip to the mall we stopped by the Dollar Store. This was a favorite of my brother and mine, simply because we could take the small amount of allowance we had and bring a truckload of goodies home. As we were wandering the store I came across the book section. Now if you have ever been to the book section of the dollar store you will know that it is filled with bibles and titles that a seven year old is neither interested in nor has even heard of. One day I came across a biography on Walt Disney. It was a very small book, probably no more than 20 or 30 pages, but I was hooked. Since that time I was hooked. I was fascinated by the history of the company and the events that led up to Walt Disney World.

As a child our family vacations consisted of trips to the Adirondack Mountains to visit my grandparents. We didn’t have the money for big vacations…the closest we came was a week in Virginia beach when I was 15. I had dreamed of going to Walt Disney World since I was little, but knew the chances of going before I became an adult were slim.

After years of asking if we could go to Walt Disney World my parents finally relented. This trip was to happen in the fall of 1998 and was to be my high school graduation present, birthday present and Christmas present all rolled into one. I did as much research as I could, but my parents weren't really into that. Also, by the time the trip rolled around, I had already been accepted into my first Walt Disney World College Program and was to arrive in Florida just 2 months after the big trip.

We went for a week, driving from New York to Florida in just 19 hours. Our trip happened over Thanksgiving break (probably so my parents wouldn’t have to take too much time off work). It was hot, we left the parks everyday by 3ish and ate $2.99 breakfast buffets. We stayed in a hotel off 192, I think it was a Howard Johnson.

Despite all of that, the trip was amazing. Walt Disney World was more than I ever expected. It was full of magic and made me feel like I was home. After that trip I worked for the Walt Disney World for about 5 years in many different capacities. Everyone I know, thinks I am crazy and can’t imagine what you could do at Disney for an entire week. For me it has always been that Walt Disney World evoked a certain emotion. Don’t get me wrong, I love the rides and parades, but it was an overall experience that kept me coming back.

Until this trip….

Day 1-Arrival Day

We arrive at the airport overpacked and ready to go. Our original flight was for 4 p.m. (cheapest one!) but showed up around 10 a.m. to see if there were any open seats on the 11:22 a.m. flight.

As a child at Christmas time we used to visit this large mall. Santa would be there high a top this big mountain...there was even a small monorail for the kids to ride. Also at Christmas time, this wonderful clock would come out. The clock had dolls from 12 different countries and on the hour a doll would come out. Well the mall was recently torn down and most everything was auctioned off...except the clock which for until it's transferred to the Children's Hospital will live at the airport.

Luckily there was and we quickly arrived at our gate.

The flight was uneventful if not a little turbulent. We arrived in Orlando and quickly got our luggage. We headed down to Alamo assuming that would go as quickly and smoothly as the beginning of our trip. I had gotten a great rate for Alamo and headed immediately to the self check-in kiosk. Unfortunately when I entered my confirmation number the kiosk informed me there was NO such number. Irritated I headed to an actual agent.

Introducing Mr. Condescending.

He informed me the confirmation number WAS indeed bad because I had cancelled it myself. I told him that was impossible as my rate was only NINETY-SEVEN dollars for a mid-size SUV for 8 days…I would have been stupid to cancel it. He said there was a reservation under my name for $237 though.

Um, I don’t think so.

According to Mr. Condescending, I had cancelled the WRONG confirmation number. Luckily I had brought the confirmation of the $97 rate with me. He spoke with a manager and got me a rate of $109. Fine, I will take it.

Mr. Condescending “Do you need insurance?” NO
“Do you need GPS?” NO
“Do you need Directions?’ NO
“Would you like to pre-fill the car at a rate of $3.55?” NO

Mr Condescending …”Where have you been all my life?”

Really, after all of this, you are hitting on me?

Finally Mom and I were on our way to the car. We arrive in the mid-size SUV row and what do we see? All white cars, lol. We selected what was actually a light gold RAV4 and were finally on our way.

A quick stop at the DTD Marketplace for Earl of Sandwich and some shopping proved to us very quickly how HOT it was. I had to stop by World of Disney to see how big of a Mickey plush I could find. The wife of my tattoo artist sent me with some money and asked that I ship the LARGEST Mickey I could find back to their one year old. I found it very quickly but decided to stop back another day as I didn’t have her money on me. Remember that for later…

By the time we got to our Resort it was almost 5 p.m. Check-in was simple and our room was ready. We settled in and began to get ready for dinner.

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8d734b3127ccec54ac764506000000040O08BbN27Ry5aA9 vPh4/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D480/ry%3D320/

We had ADR’s for Raglan Road at 7 p.m. and I had been dreaming of the Bread and Butter pudding for months. Dinner was amazing (I will do a separate dining report) and we walked through DTD a bit before heading back to the hotel.

Day 2- Meeting up with Diser’s

This morning we had plans to hit Animal Kingdom for rope drop with some diser’s. I was so excited we were the first ones there. It’s a pattern you will notice, lol. We made it through rope drop fairly quickly and headed to Everest. There we met up with GMax and Mom, Wirki and husband, Timmy, and PoohBear67. We also ran into another Diser while in line, I think maybe Tinkerbell???

Everest was awesome as usual and everyone rode except for Glenda’s mom. After Everest we did the Safari, Dinosaur, Nemo the Musical and Everest again.

We caught Divine on our way to Nemo the Musical
I could not believe how HOT it was getting. I knew it would be warm but this was hotter than I ever imagined. We decided it was time for lunch and went to Yak and Yeti counter service. It was good but hot food on a hot day was NOT what we needed. Mom and I split from the group to go see FOTLK. BUT, by the time we go to that side of the park I wasn’t feeling great. I was very tired and sick to my stomach. We decided it would be best to head back to the hotel for a swim and try to cool down. I was very surprised how hard it was to handle the heat. It was physically making me sick.

After a swim at the pool we got ready for dinner. On the boat from Boardwalk to EPCOT I was spotted by another Diser…I’m sorry I can’t remember your screen name. I am sure Glenda will come by and remind me  We were again meeting up with Diser’s for dinner at Le Cellier. We were early (yes again) and headed to France for a Grey Goose Slushie…OMG why didn’t someone tell us about these sooner!!

On our way to Canada we ran into EarlJam and wife Colleen, Wirki (Debbie and Dave) and Nie! For Dinner there was

GMax and Mom
Aubriee + 2
PennConn and Adrian
Wirki and husband
NHBubba
Kat
Mom and I

Except so there were 3 ADR’s. We were hoping to get tables close to each other and while Wirki tried to work her magic, the host wasn’t having it…he literally split our group into 3 different corners of the restaurant. Dinner was amazing and afterwards some of the group headed to get more drinks and watch Illuminatins.

Now Illuminations is something I always look forward to…unfortunately withouth the globe the whole show lasted about 7 minutes and well…something was just missing. It didn’t have the same affect, the story wasn’t the same.

We attempted to hit the bakery on the way home in France, but it was already closed. It had been a long day and we were ready to head back to the hotel.

I don't really have a lot of pics beside the Safari. I am waiting for some group shots from Ms. Fancy Pants (soon to Mrs. Fancy Pants!!!) We didn't take any pics at dinner or afterwards!

I decided to let up a little and let my mom sleep in this morning. We didn’t get to the Magic Kingdom until elevenish.

Crowds weren't nearly as bad as it looks here!

We checked the Emporium for the big Mickey plush since today I had my friends money on me.

As we left the Emporium I heard a very familiar sound…the Dapper Dans (insert heart beating wildly here).

During my first College Program I worked at the Main Street Markethouse (now the Crystal Shop). It was a wonderful little store that sold kitchen accessories. For those that remember, it also had an old phone that when you picked it up you could hear an old party line, plus there was a small checker board table you could sit and play on.

The Dapper Dans used to frequent my store on a daily basis. I just think they are the greatest (plus I had a huge crush on one of them!) So every year when I come back, I always stop and see them. One of them recognized me and gave me a great big hug. He told me if I was around, to stop back later…sigh (I have video somewhere if you haven't seen them before)

We stopped at the Main St. Bakery and shared some pastries for a late breakfast….YUM French Toast Loaf!!!

... some of Fantasyland, Big Thunder Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean. Mom felt like a quick ride on the Walt Disney World Railroad before heading to our ADR...

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8d734b3127ccec54acd78d14900000040O08BbN27Ry5aA9 vPh4/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D480/ry%3D320/

By the time we go back to Main St. it was close to our ADR’s at the Poly and it was HOT. I know I keep saying it, but I can’t express how HOT it was…and my body did NOT like it. I really did struggle everyday.

Now I am used to a certain attitude from Cast Members…especially at the Magic Kingdom. But something was just wrong…no one was especially rude, but no one was very friendly either…OH Except for the CM that helped me look through the garbage at the Bakery when I accidentally THREW out my room card. She was AMAZING!! But something was just off…I didn’t feel any magic.

Our ADR was at 4 p.m. and we headed right for the Tambu Lounge. Maybe it was the heat, maybe it was the lack of water, but Mom didn’t make it through half her Pina Colada before handing it over to me!! Dinner was amazing, but I could barely keep my eyes open. I was really upset as we planned to go back to the MK and see Spectro and Wishes. Mom suggested getting our dessert to go and head back to the hotel early.

I was really upset, but also very tired. We decided it was too early for bed, lol, so we went to DTD to get the giant Mickey plush sent home. What a mistake…maybe I was overtired, but this was my first real encounter with a lack of magic. The Mickey I wanted to send home had no tag on him…none of them did. The CM waiting on us was new (probably College Program) and I don’t blame her. But she left to get a sku and didn’t come back for 15 minutes!!! When she finally came back, I suggested to her using a dummy sku…she informed me that would screw up inventory.

That’s when I lost it, I definitely didn’t yell at her, but she knew I was upset. I told her I undertood her problem, but at this point they were bordering on bad customer service. What she was telling me was that the backstage aspect of the store was more important than me...a guest. A manager came over, barely said two words to us. I was appalled. I finally finished up and 25 minutes later left the store.

I’ll recap my thoughs on this later, but let me just say this was a trend that we noticed through the rest of the trip. Guests just don’t seem to matter much anymore.

We crashed early that night as we had another early morning.

What a great time we had at AK...But it was hot and after a night at AC I could not hang for long. I have some pics from Everest and Le Cellier if you are interested. I do not want to post them if you would not like it.

Sorry you had such a hard time at DTD. It makes for a bad taste in the mouth. Kind words go a long way. (one of the first things you learn as a CM/CP) Hopefully everything was up hill from here.

I'm at work so I am going to try and "wing" day 3.

This morning we had plans to meet Glenda and Mommy to do Toy Storia Mania. We beat her to the studios, but not by much. We shopped a bit as we were still a bit early for rope drop. Mom got this cute Mickey water bottle carabener thing and by the time we finished Glenda had arrived.

As soon as the ropes were dropped, off we were herded to Toy Storia Mania...all I can say is WOW. I took about a hundred pics just of this so if you don't want to see it...skip down!

After all that excitement we tried to go see Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular...but we hit a little road bump.

His name is Michael...and he is my younger brother. He loves to explore and have adventures...he loves to travel and is currently living in Korea.

While waiting for the pre-show to start my phone rings. Guess who lost his wallet:scared1: That's right folks, not TWO weeks in a foreign country and he has lost his wallet. So we left the show and my Mom spent half an hour dealing with the mess:mad:

Once she was done, we went back to use our FP for TSM. I won again :)

We had moved our ADR today for lunch time as we were having trouble making it through the day. Luckily we got an ADR for Mama Melroses at 12:50. It was still a little early so we decided to see Muppets and then head to lunch. It was cute as always. I love going to those shows with people who have never seen a 3-D movie...watching them reach for things always makes me giggle.

Lunch at Mama Melroses, with the exception of my dessert was great. It's my moms favorite restaurant so she was delighted to be there.

After lunch we hit Sounds Dangerous and played in the sound booths a little. As we headed out of the park we did a little more shopping. It had already beena long day and you guessed it...I was HOT!!!

We we wiped and went back to the hotel to swim a little and get ready for dinner. Since we already used our TS for the day we thought we would eat at World Showcase. EPCOT at night is one of our favorite things to do and we end up at EPCOT 3 or 4 times over the week.

When we got there, we weren't quite hungry yet so we walked over to see the wait time for Soarin'...omg 50 minutes. Mom would just have to wait. So instead we did Spaceship Earth. I'm still not crazy about the changes, but oh well...

We continued on through Mexico on our way to Japan for my dinner.

I grabbed dinner in Japan and we were on our way to France. We grabbed a couple slushies and Mom got dinner at the Patisserie. This is truly one of my favorite moments from the WHOLE trip. Just mom and I sitting outside the bakery eating dinner.

On our way back to the Boardwalk (where we parked, I know naughty!) I took a few pics.

It was a great day and we would actually have a chance to sleep in in the morning. We went back to the hotel to enjoy some treats from the Patisserie. On a side note, I am SO dissapointed that the bakery took my Elephant Ears off the menu :sad2:

They are usually out in the morning...very frequently, just hang out on Main St for half an hour or so. Best chance is sometime before noon.

Oh goodness no! I didn't even really realize what I typed  Now that you mention it though, that would be a super cute way to tell your significant other you are knocked up :rotfl:

My boyfriend and I learned from the commentary on the Simpson's episode where Homer was in a barber shop quartet that the Dapper Dans provided the singing voices. Also, according to the commentary, if you ask them to sing "Baby On Board" or "Coney Island Baby" they will sing it. I'm not so sure how true it is, but hey it couldn't hurt to ask!

Preface:
For as long as I can remember I have been captivated by the magic of Disney....

Just wondering why you left Disney? Two of the Divas were former CMs on the College Program...one was intent on working for Disney for life but said the pay stunk!
Very well written! Can't wait to read more! :goodvibes Toy Storia Mania...all I can say is WOW. We LOVED TSM too! Fast Passed it twice! :woohoo:

I could not believe how HOT it was getting. I knew it would be warm but this was hotter than I ever imagined. We decided it was time for lunch and went to Yak and Yeti counter service. It was good but hot food on a hot day was NOT what we needed.

I agree it was HOT but we are from Texas...I skipped lots of CS meals and snacks because eating was the last thing I wanted to do in the heat (I made up for it @our TS meals! )

The Dapper Dans they are talking about in the commentary is more than likely the ORIGINAL Dapper Dans...meaning those in Disneyland. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure. BUT, "my" Dapper Dans are the coolest:love:

We were at WDW during and right after TS Fay and it was unbelievably, intolerably hot once the storm passed thru. We spent the time from 2-4pm every day just looking for an a/c place to sit and drink cold things. Yes, we had our own water bottles, but the mid-day heat was just too much. We needed to be inside, in the a/c. We have never experienced this before, even though we've been to WDW twice in June...but never in late August! IF we'd known how unmanagable the heat was going to be, I would have planned things differently and gone back to the hotel mid-day for a rest and swim. Unfortunately that wasn't going to happen- we didn't have park hoppers this trip, and free dining started and made moving TS ADRs impossible. So I hear you when you talk about how hot it was!!!

:lmao: :lmao: My mom's face just kills me!

Ok so where was I?? Day 4!

This day was to be our free day. We decided the night before we would return to AK for 2 reasons:

#1 We still hadn't seen FOTLK and that is my mom's FAVORITE!!

#2 It was supposed to rain...our Safari driver earlier in the week said if we ever get the chance to ride in the rain to do it...all the animals come out.

So we made some last minute ADR's at Boma for 10:30...it was kinda nice to sleep in although I didn't really :rotfl: My body has this stupid internal alarm clock:rolleyes:

We arrived at AKL a little after 10 so we could explore...unfortunately this didn't take long. The store sold the SAME crap that you find everywhere on property and there were NO animals outside:rotfl: So we headed downstairs to breakfast.

The meal was fantastic...our server was not. Just another example of CM's who DON'T care:mad: And he was from Orlando...what happened to actually placing CM's at locations they are from? Do they only do that at EPCOT anymore:confused3

After breakfast we thought we would just take the bus to AK...it would be a closer walk and we didn't plan on staying too long...Well we waited...and waited...and waited before we gave up and took our rental car over to AK. The park wasn't too busy yet and we didn't end up with a parking spot TOO far.

We had just missed the next FOTLK so we thought we would wander a bit. Mom had been contemplating getting an airbrushed tattoo all week. Well now was as good a time as any!!

It was very cute and lasted her for 2 more days. Probably would have lasted longer if she got oen WITHOUT glitter:lmao:

It was time for a smoke break...and some drinks!! It was unbearably hot at this point. We stopped at the Dawa bar and got a Corona (mom) and I got a Lost on the Safari....

That is when it started raining...you can't tell from this picture but boy was it coming down.

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8d734b3127ccec54b9532f16300000040O08BbN27Ry5aA9 vPh4/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D480/ry%3D320/

We were in no hurry so we just hung out. It wasn't going to stop completely, so once it lightened up a bit we headed over to the Safari. We WALKED right on!!

Let me just say, boy was our earlier guide right! Except for the fact that we saw NO lions, this was one of the BEST safari's I had been on (oh except the one where the baby Giraffe almost hit our Jeep!)

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8d734b3127ccec54b7ca0b11d00000040O08BbN27Ry5aA9 vPh4/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D480/ry%3D320/

I wish I had pics but unfortunately at this point I was running out of memory on my camera:scared1: We got very up close and personal to some beautiful white rhinos though.

We rode a second time right in a row. I was trying to find the fast passes we got earlier when a CM came up to me and said not to bother...the posted wait of 20 minutes wasn't accurate and we would probably walk right on.

Right.

Almost THIRTY minutes later we rode again. It was wonderful again and by the time we were done it was not only time to see FOTLK but the rain had let up.

We were actually a bit late arriving but still made it before the show started. The show was awesome as usual. I have some video but haven't uploaded it yet.

I have no pics from the rest of the day so I will make it short.

We went back to the hotel, napped and got read for our ADR at Wolfgang Puck at 7 p.m.

We left the hotel with some sprinkles...:scared:

By the time we got to DTD...it was POURING. Harder than I can even express. Buckets upon Buckets...the parking lot was starting to "flood".

Guess who didn't bring umbrellas...or ponchos?

At about 6:59 the rain paused...We threw off our shoes and RAN as fast as we could for WP!! We had a wonderful dinner and I got to see a funnel cloud.:scared1:

After dinner the rain didn't start gain so we met up with some Diser's at Jellyrolls.

Luckily the incriminating photos of me dancing on stage have not surfaced yet :surfweb:

I'm sorry about the awful guest relations and lack of pixie dust. You know, I think that the CMs deals w/ so many rude guests bc it's so sad that almost everyone now is rude (where are all the friendly people?) that they snap (I know, not an excuse, but I'm sure it is tough having to direct guests who don't listen anyway, etc in the very HOT weather.

Yea that was Wed...when we went to dinner was the big storm that you caught on the way to Artist Point. We missed the one on Thursday :)

Your mom is the coolest. Love the tattoo

Just happened to find this little treasure. I love that you went with your momma! I hope when my kids grow up, they too want to go to WDW with me. :) LOVE the glitter tattoo. Did they tell you how long it would last?

OK... who's got the Jellyroll pictures?? Please post now. :teeth:

Add me to another person that liked your mom's tattoo. While it didn’t last long, the glitter was pretty cool.

I think they said the tattoo would last a week. How they do it is they spray BLACK paint first and then put glitter over it. She usually wears her purse diagonally over her shoulder and that kinda rubbed off the glitter. Once the glitter started wearing off it looked...funny. So we just washed it off. Plus most of Mom's shirts hide it anyway.

Day 5

Today was the day Mom was getting her belated Birthday present:banana: I'm bad at keeping secrets so she knew about it. We were going to the MK for the KTTK Tour!!!

For some reason I didn't trust the time I had written down on my spreadsheet so we decided to head to the MK early. Mom wasn't too happy but knew I had been pretty good about dragging her out of bed early. PLUS I promised that if we arrived early we could go back to the Main St Bakery for some more French Toast Loaf!!

Well by the time we got to the MK (awesome parking spot btw!) it was around 7:45. I was dissapointed in the opening ceremony though. I didn't know they did a condensed version for EMH. Oh well...at least I wasn't blubbering like a baby...like I usually do.

At this point I was 90% sure that our tour time was for 8:30 so off we went to the bakery. As much of an extrovert as I am, I usually chicken out approaching Diser's I don't know. I saw probably around half a dozen during the trip and didn't say ANYTHING. I think there was even one on our tour :headache:

After we had sat down and started our breakfast, a group of women sat down next to us. One of them had on a rhinestone DIVA pin...I was almost certain these were the Dis Divas but was to chicken to say hi:flower3:

Around 8:20 we went to check in for our tour. I'm not going to say much more about it than it was AMAZING!! My mom always wanted to see what I got to do at Disney and this allowed us a chance backstage. Our tour guide was Robin and I am in the process of writing Disney a letter to let them know how WONDERFUL she was.

I did so good on the tour...I only cried twice:lmao: My mom's only complaint was the tour was more about history than seeing how Disney "works"...but she LOVED it nonetheless. I really can't say enough!

At this point we decided we were going to leave the car in our fantastic parking spot and head back to the hotel. We originally had plans for an Illuminations cruise tonight but after we saw there was NO globe, we cancelled those. We did still have an ADR for Chef's De France and then planned on coming back to the MK to see Spectro and Wishes...which we had missed earlier in the week.

The bus wasn't bad...it came fairly quickly and we were back at the hotel before long. We stopped in the gift shop to grab an umbrella (the skies were looking dark) and a few "adult" drinks.

After cleaning up and getting dressed we were off...Here is the MAJOR reason I rent a car. It was 95 degrees and we waited like 20 minutes for the bus to arrive...I know it doesn't sound long, but in 95 degree HEAT it is:mad:

We were cutting it close to our 5 p.m. adr when we arrived at EPCOT. We quickly made it through the turnstiles and were trying to make it to France before the skies opened up.

Oh well.

In Canada it was sprinkling...by the UK it was raining cats and dogs...and my $2 Target umbrella was showing that you get what you pay for. BTW, thanks to the guy that yelled nice umbrella as it turned INSIDE OUT!

We checked in for our 5 p.m. ADR but the restaurant wasn't even open yet.

Dinner was very good...with the exception of a few things. I know it's Disney and I know there will be kids there, yada yada. But do you think this is the appropriate place to not only let your kid stick all the penne noodles on her fingers...but to also HELP HER???

And #2 All I have to say is, ladies, please remember that it's not cute to wear a dark blue bra with a white shirt....especially if it rains. AND did you think it was appropriate to ask the restaurant for TABLECLOTHES (to use as towels) due to how heavily drenched you and your 3 girls were?:confused3

After dinner we had time to ride Soarin'...here is where the night goes downhill a bit. It was bound to happen really and I won't go into much detail. Let's just say I said something kinda dumb to my mom while on Soarin' that she took the wrong way but nonetheless it hurt her feelings.

By the time we got to the MK it was bothering me. She was upset and I was upset because she was upset. This resulted in a mother/daughter fight in front of the MK. Mom and I get along really well but once in a while these things happen. I was so excited we had been getting along so well the whole week.

Now I didn't want to go see fireworks because I knew she was upset...this went on for a while, there were lots of tears and we eventually made our way inside.

We had missed Spectromagic:sad1: but still had time for Wishes. Mom took a quick smoke break and I took some pics.

Beware at this point...if you don't like seeing pics of Cinderella Castle, skip forward. I was getting the hang of my new camera and tooks some pretty awesome pics (for me anyway!!)

Believe it or not, those were just some of my favorites. When my TR is done, I will post a link to ALL my pics.

We stayed long enough to catch the kiss goodnight:lovestruc (although it was hard to hear and I don't think Mom got the full affect).

We rode the Ferry Boat back to the parking lot where we still had that SUPER awesome parking spot from 7 a.m.!!!!

I was sad as I knew this was my last visit to the MK this trip, but we still had a day and half left!!

ETA: This was one of the days where we got the Magic back a little, despite our minor argument.

#1 Robin, our KTTK guide was AMAZING. I can't say enough about her or the tour. And it reminded me why I visit WDW. I wish I could retell the story she told about Roy Disney's speech when the MK opened. It really warmed my heart (the 1st time I cried, lol). At the end of the tour she thanked us. She reminded us that Disney and Roy built this for US and we are part of why she loves her job so much (2nd time I cried). I really can't say enough about her.

#2 Just being in the MK and watching Wishes, reminded me again of why I go. It really was a MAGICAL night

Truly love your report and your pics (esp of the castle) are absolutely great!! :thumbsup2 and I agree with everyone here - your Mom could be your sister and she's 51?!!! No Way!

I hope you and your Mom made up (it sounded like it by the end of the evening - I tend to get real quiet when my daughter & I fuss or if I get my feelings hurt but we always make up - usually by me just giving in).

Anxious to read more!

Day 6...Our last full day :(

Mom had been dying to ride Soarin' all week...and the one time we had ridden it, well it hadn't gone so well.

So we arrived at EPCOT in time for rope drop and headed straight over to Soarin'. It kills me that people don't think that the first part of the queue is a line and they just run ahead of you:confused3

After riding Soarin and grabbing fast passes we decided to grab some breakfast. We had a TON of credits left over so we each had a breakfast platter...and some chocoalte croissants (her favorite) WAY too much food:rotfl:

I had plans to meet up with an old friend/ex-boyfriend today who is a CM at the laugh floor. I wasn't sure what time he'd get there so we just kinda wandered around for a while.

Can I express my disinterest in Innoventions?? What the heck is going on there...didn't seem like much more than KidCot funstops and video games. Next up was Test Track which had a posted wait time of 30 minutes...I don't think ONE wait time was right all week!

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8d734b3127ccec54b30df307400000040O08BbN27Ry5aA9 vPh4/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/

Finally Mike showed up and the first on our To Do list was Mission Space...Mom HATES this ride. It was a blast as always mostly due to Mike's commentary. He is a HYSTERICAL guy...besides being a CM at the MK, he is also part of an Improv Troup in downtown Orlando.

After Mission Space we met up with Mom and did Ellen. During the beginning of the ride where you are just starting to move and everything is dark a little boy shouted out, "Did we just die?" It was too cute.

After that we decided to drag mom on Figment. It's something I make Mike do everytime I visit. Really Disney, what were you thinking? This has to be the WORST RIDE EVER!! But we told Mom she'd enjoy it and got a kick out it.

It was getting near our time to leave, but we wanted to do Spaceship Earth one more time. The last ride of the trip.

I really wish I had more time to hang out with Mike but it was time to say goodbye until my next trip.

Mom and I had to head back to get ready for our ADR at Citricos. For some reason I have very little pictures of today:confused3 But I did manage to get a couple of the lobby.

Yay, I'm caught up!:woohoo:

Your trip looked like so much fun, even if you did hit a few rough spots. Your mom looked like she had a blast. You both are adorable too :goodvibes

By the way, that last black and white MK picture is beautiful

whew! i just found your trip report and am all caught up. i am playing hooky from work today and your trip report was just what i needed. you and your mom are too cute. my mom and i usually have at least 1 fight during our trips. usually about how slow she walks. i don't get mad because of her age but her lack of listening to me and her doctors about exercise gets to me and i simply offer it up as a reason for her legs hurting. i guess mom doesn't like the roles reversed. anyway, it's fun reading your and other disers' reports on the same trip to fill in the holes. makes me feel like i was there with you guys.

by the way ....TO THE PERSON WHO HAS THE JELLYROLLS PICS OF MAINSTMANDY...........we all really need to see them! Will pay good money :cool1:

Thanks :) I accidently took those pics at a higher resolution...which actually worked out well because I can order up to a 16X20 on shutterfly without it being blurry!! I didn't of course...not yet:rotfl:

Aww thanks!! Mom and I did pretty good... I was patient with her because I knew what to expect. She's lost a lot of weight over the last year so she walks much longer and faster...but there is still lots of potty and smoke breaks

Good luck finding those pics guys!!!

We woke up early enough to grab breakfast before heading to the airport. We had 5 CS credits left and I didn't want to use them in the food court:confused3

We hit downtown Disney with the plan of eating breakfast at WPE. Let me just say...we were blown away!! This was one of our best meals AND one of the best bang for your buck on a CS credit.

After breakfast we needed to get on the road for the airport. We ened up having an HOUR and a half before our flight left when we arrived at the gate...Sometimes MCO is a zoo, and other times it's dead. Who knew??

Final Thoughts:

It was a WONDERFUL trip that went by way too fast. Mom had a great time and a much needed vacation.

All Star Music: I wasn't as disappointed as I thought. It's definitely not my favorite resort, but it was nice enough. Our room was close to the parking lot and the pool. We were very disappointed in Mousekeeping. There were several days we showed up and the room wasn't cleaned...at 3 in the afternoon!!

Dining Plan: We loved it but it was too much food for my mom. I have used it before and will continue to use it. I like that it's all paid for ahead of time and that I get to visit a TS restaraunt every day. For details, here is a link to my dining report: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1953833

September...NEVER AGAIN. It was too hot...ridiculously humid and just made me cranky. We had to go back to the hotel every day to shower and change for the evening. It was just too hot to function. Maybe for those originally from the south, it would ok. But for us Yankees....NO THANKS!

Cast Members: Highly disappointed. More often than not they were either rude, or disinterested in their jobs. Hopefully things will start to change and Disney realizes the magic is slipping!

Shopping: UGh, are you kidding me? We spent way less than normal due to the variety (or lack of) merchandise. Everything was the same, everywhere we went.

Overall it was a great trip, I have no major complaints and am already planning a trip for dbf and I for next October :cool1:

I am glad that you had such a great time. It was a great experience for me also being able for the first time to meet some Dis friends.
I am sorry that the CM's were not up to snuff for you. We had many that went above and beyond. Different days...different CM's. It just sucks that everyone can not have the magic!!

I agree also with the heat. It was hot and sticky. Not what a girl from Chicago is used to. :rotfl:

You have a wonderful relationship with your Mom. Thank you for sharing part of your trip with us !!

Yeah, and I could of sworn I knew you! I guess I didn't put Amanda and MainStMandy together, haha. And I recently got a new phone, so she must of called my old number.

What is funny is that I thought it might have been you Pete. And after dinner Glenda tried to call you from the number we had on the list. But no answer.:sad2:

But Glenda did call the right number this time! It never rang, the voicemail just popped up. Sometimes in Disney, I get NO service. So I managed to call her back a few hours later during IllumiNations, but you guys were over in Italy....I was near the walkway towards FW, so we were about a mile apart, haha! Maybe I'll catch you next time wirki!

Introducing Mr. Condescending.

Mr. Condescending “Do you need insurance?” NO
“Do you need GPS?” NO
“Do you need Directions?’ NO
“Would you like to pre-fill the car at a rate of $3.55?” NO

Mr Condescending …”Where have you been all my life?”

Really, after all of this, you are hitting on me?

Soooooo IGNORANT! He's one of those men who thinks that women are stupid, so a little flirting will make up for any earlier mistakes. UGHHH!

Day 2- Meeting up with Diser’s

This morning we had plans to hit Animal Kingdom for rope drop with some diser’s. There we met up with GMax and Mom, Wirki and husband, Timmy, and PoohBear67. We also ran into another Diser while in line, I think maybe Tinkerbell??? It was Tiggerbell. Here are some pics from that day:
