View Full Version : Quickest way to DTD form Epot ?

Hi
I know that Disney closed the loop-hole people previously exploited by parking their cars for free at DTD and then taking free transport to parks.
However, we're staying off site and it took us a looong time to get to DTD daytime as a result last year. Our shuttle drops us off at the Epcot transport bus drop off so can anyone tell me..
1) Which Hotel resort is quickest to head to for a connection to DTD ?
2) Do you need to show any Resort Hotel ID to use these Buses ?
Thanks in advance

The closest resort, via the International Gateway entrance to Epcot, is the Beach Club. You can take a water taxi or walk (it's quicker to walk). You don't have to show any kind of ID to use the buses.
Don't discount the taxi option for getting around WDW - we use it a lot. :thumbsup2
ETA: I've just remembered that we used the bus to get from DTD to the BoardWalk last August and it took forever. The bus stopped at all 3 stops at DTD, then went via Typhoon Lagoon before circling all the Epcot resorts (including the Swan and Dolphin). I don't know whether or not it goes via all the resorts on each occasion, but it certainly takes in Typhoon Lagoon both there and back.

Depending which side of Epcot you are at - you could get a bus to Saratoga Springs - that resort is near DTD.

Yes, that's probably a better bet. You can walk or get the water taxi across to DTD.

Definitely get a bus to SSR, one of the bus stops is within walking distance of DTD (just ask the driver) :thumbsup2

That hadn't occurred to me, Paul. We've never had a problem with the buses at SSR, but, then again, we don't use them that much. We'll probably be doing so a bit more in November.

So, as they are using a shuttle bus to get to the parks and not avoiding any parking charges they can get the SSR bus from Epcot and have a look round on their way through to the Marketplace.
Sounds like a plan.

no there not,as there not using bus to go to SSR there using it to go to marketplace
If you have bought a ticket it gives you the right to go from park to park and park to hotel, but not to cercomvent it to go to DD
People staying onsite paytowards the busses in there room rate,or in the case of dvc its dues
There has been a lot of debate about bus hopers over on the dvc boards whre its fround upon
Stil the quickest way is taxi as it will take you straight there

But as they are passing through SSR they might see what a great complex it is and snap up some points for themselves!!
What a great marketing coup for Disney and, to think, it would never have come about if they had taken a cab.

I think they are winding you up here, but seriously we know exactly how you feel SSR is our home resort and we see this all the time, its worse at park closing time, I think if the line is more than a bus full you should have to show your room pass, sorry but why should people who pay dues at a resort have to wait when people who only want to get to DTD go first.

No, I realise that but it looks as though the SSR transport police are on your case!
Revert to plan B, leave at the International Gateway but walk through to the front of the BWV and get the DTD bus from there. As that is the last stop it should go straight there.
Watch out for SSR people who are too tired to walk all the way to the front of Epcot so they get our bus to DTD and walk through!!

Disney, of course, has no interest in restricting the movement of any of its guests around property (other than to prevent free parking) - it simply makes no business sense to do so. The answer, then, is to provide more buses for those areas affected and, in the case of SSR, it sounds as though that might have happened - I think I read a few weeks ago that the situation seems to have eased of late. We'll find out in November when we're planning to make a bit more use of the buses than we have in the past. We'll still make good use of the taxi option, though, particularly for eating out during the evening. And we'll have a car for offsite jaunts and the Universal element of our trip.
ETA: In truth, it can only be conjecture that the problems at SSR are caused by non-SSR guests. There's no way of knowing which of your travelling companions are entitled to board and, thus, the extent of the problem. Unless Disney is going to start policing it (unlikely IMHO), it has to assume that all passengers are bone fide and increase the service to meet demand. For those of us paying for the service via dues or within our room rate, our beef should be with Disney, not with those exploiting it whilst Disney looks firmly in the opposite direction.

coming back from goodings last year two families walked down the sliproad from the first hotel on the left going down to the crossroads one father telling the other just walk over to the disney hotel and catch the bus there we always do it, so these 2 families getting on at congress park probably stopped the same amount of members getting on at the springs, sorry deb but your wrong in your assumption

been loking alover but heres something
Who can use Disney Transportation
Whether or not you can "legally" use WDW's transportation system depends on two things. First, all "park hopper" admission media permits the bearer to use WDW's transportation. Annual Pass holders, for example, are permitted full use of the system. Second, guests of Disney-owned and operated resorts are permitted full use of the system during the duration of their stay. It is possible, literally, to use airport shuttle transportation to take you to and from your Disney resort and use only Disney transportation during your entire visit. With the WDW transportation system at your beck and call, and the fact that all Disney resorts are located right on the grounds, you are normally within forty-five minutes of your room no matter where you are in WDW.
so if you are staying ofsite and have a hopper pass, yes you can use ssr bus to get to DD.but ofsite with a no hoper pass you are not suposed to do it

I pass the Test:cool1:
Have a 5 day Hopper Ticket with Water Park options.
To be honest, we've always preferred to stay at I Drive as there's so many good Dining options and Entertainment to choose from.
We managed to see BB King live at the opening of his Blues Club in Pointe Orlando in December so staying off site definitely has its pluses:yay:

:thumbsup2 but still the quickest way is a taxi,we stay onsite and still use them if we want to get someware quick, you might have to wait up to 20min for a bus then 20-30 if it stops at every stop at resort to get there, same on way back, eats into shoping time

I have no issue at all with Disney guests using the Saratoga bus, it is none of my business why they are using the bus, I like to think they are coming to take a look at the resort, use the bar, the restaurant etc. On the other hand last Christmas it really got my goat up when the buses were full to overflowing - I don't need a seat, it would be hypocritical of me to whinge for a seat when I have paced the parks for eight hours to then say I need a seat for a fifteen minute bus ride, however, to see parents standing holding sleeping children whilst people openly commented that they needed to get off at Congress Park to walk to the Grosvenor or The Beuna Vista Palace was enough to make me scream. There is no doubt that the bus drivers are encouraging people to do this, on several occasions we overheard passengers asking drivers was this the right bus to get to the Crossroads etc. I don't wish to add fuel to the flames, just wanting to point out our experiences...

Paul, my status as a moderator of the DIS boards doesn't preclude me from having an opinion. I'm not advocating anything illegal; merely commenting on the situation as it stands. If Disney's policy (whether official in line with that stated, or unofficial by turning a blind eye) allows free use of its transportation, then any gripes should be with Disney, not with those taking advantage of it. SSR is my home resort, so I have as much reason as anyone to object to the use of SSR buses by non-SSR guests, but I think I do myself more credit by seeing the bigger picture than by simply looking out for myself.

We're DVC owners, but we also appreciate everything else on offer in the area. We've stayed at most of the top resorts and we're not so small-minded to assume that nothing but WDW has anything to offer. In fact, our DVC ownership is just a means to an end - certainly not the be all and end all. Still, let's keep the finer points of I-Drive to ourselves, shall we? I would also agree that any gripe people have re the buses should be aimed at Disney - we stayed off sight and used the Disney buses to get around. We asked the bus driver what the best way of getting to DTD was and were given a number of options, all of which obviously involved getting a bus to a resort an onwards. I didn't even know you couldn't go straight from the parks to DTD before we were actually there. We didn't use the Saratoga route as it happens, but as this was one of the options given by the Disney staff member I don't think it was up to us to decide against it on any kind of 'moral' grounds...

Ok, seeing as I started this thread in good faith and witnessed it escalate, hopefully I can bring closure to it so we can all stay one big happy family:cool1:
What have I learnt ?:confused3
1) It would be quicker to jump in a Taxi from Epcot than go via Buses...I can live with that:)
2) There seems to be a serious flaw in Disney's Transportation system
3) We all have our own reasons for where we stay etc.
For us, we prefer I Drive area-we unfortunately can't have kids (Crohns Disease & 10+ Operations in 10 yrs won out:sad1: ) so prefer the vibe that I Drive has to offer. In truth, we prefer the rides at Universal & IOA too which are more geared to our tastes so location wise, we are where we want to be. If circumstances had been different, then maybe I would be more inclined to stay onsite but that's life I suppose.
No hard feelings to one and all.....Group Hug anyone ???:grouphug:

Please can we not drag this board down to the level of most Internet forums -
I could easily post "joke" or negative comments about the people who travel 4000 miles to only stay in over priced hotels on site and never leave the property for two weeks but I dont, like the majority of people on here, each to their own. One persons idea of the Florida "magic" is as valid to them as anyone else.
Whilst I can agree that parts of the top end of I-Drive do have a tacky feel to them, the other two thirds is packed with very good hotels, shopping and some very very excellent restaurants.
Rick - do not feel you have to justify why you stay on I-drive.
We stay offsite in the same hotel because we like it, can afford it and know what we are getting - probably very similar reasons to many people who stay on-site, in a villa or a hotel on I-drive and certainly no less valid.
