MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- Tropical Storm Dolly formed in the western Caribbean and approached Mexico on Sunday, as Tropical Storm Cristobal edged closer to the North Carolina coast.

Satellite image taken at 10:45 a.m. ET Sunday shows locations of the two storms.

The National Hurricane Center issued a tropical storm warning for Mexico's Yucatan peninsula from Campeche to the border with Belize.

At 11:45 a.m. ET, the NHC said the center of Dolly -- the fourth tropical storm of the Atlantic season -- was about 270 miles east of Chetumal, Mexico and 230 miles southeast of Cozumel.

Dolly was moving northwest at about 17 mph with top sustained winds near 45 mph. See Dolly's projected path »

Meanwhile, Cristobal moved "parallel and very close" to the North Carolina coast Sunday morning, but the storm was expected to drift away from the eastern U.S. coast by Monday. See Cristobal's projected path »

"The center of the tropical storm is expected to move parallel and very close to the coast of North Carolina today and begin to move away from the coast by Monday," the NHC said in its 11 a.m. advisory. It is expected to dump one or two inches of rain along the North Carolina coast Sunday, it said. Watch Cristobal near the Outer Banks of North Carolina »

A discussion posted online by NHC forecasters said the satellite view of Cristobal "remained unimpressive-looking" and predicted the storm would "lose tropical characteristics" over the next two or three days.

A tropical storm warning -- meaning that tropical storm conditions with maximum winds of 39 mph are expected within the next 24 hours -- was canceled for an area from north of Little River Inlet, North Carolina, to the North Carolina-Virginia border. Another warning remained in effect from north of Surf City to the North Carolina-Virginia border.

As of 11 a.m. ET Sunday, Cristobal's center was located about 15 miles southwest of Cape Lookout, North Carolina, and about 70 miles southwest of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. It was moving northeast at near 7 mph.

The storm's maximum sustained winds were near 50 mph with higher gusts.

Cristobal evolved Saturday from a tropical depression that formed Friday.

Meanwhile, Bertha was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm Saturday evening. The storm, centered about 670 miles east-northeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland, is moving quickly into the northern Atlantic, the NHC said Sunday morning.

Bertha, the first hurricane of the 2008 Atlantic season, formed July 3 in the eastern Atlantic and dealt a glancing blow to Bermuda before heading north.

The storm set several records: It is the longest-lived tropical cyclone on record during the month of July, and the third-strongest July storm on record, behind Dennis and Emily, in the 2005 hurricane season

I'm hoping it continues that path and doesn't head farther up the Texas coast.

I guess i need to get on the local news/weather channel. We need the rain, but that's a bit more than we need.

Praying that Dolly will not do any harm to people and property. Hurricanes clean up is not fun at all. Be sure you place all your valuble papers in something water proof and easily grabbed. We find a Ziploc inside of a Rubbermaid tote works well. Also refill meds if needed.

yes, ziplock bags are a Godsend during storm season. You'd be amazed...

Not amazed at all. I've been through many hurricane seasons. 33 years as a married person plus another 4 as a college student living in So Florida. Old pro.

Dolly is due to become a hurricane by tonight and hit Brownsville tomorrow. I'm right in the path of the storm in McAllen, Texas..... just a hop skip and a jump from Brownsville.

DS8 is disabled and uses a wheelchair.... hopefully we won't need to evacuate at any point. I went and stocked up on supplies last night. I think we'll be fine if we lose electricity for a couple days.

Pray for our safety. Thanks.

Hopefully it wont be too bad. We are expected to get only 1-2 inches of rain from it. But we need that. Having lived through Rita, I am scared to death of hurricanes now.

You guys are in our prayers. Hopefully it's just a little wind and rain and then it's done.

Looks like the storm has shifted and slowed down. It will be hitting north of Brownsville and the new projected path will be taking it directly to my hometown of Falfurrias in South Texas. My parents house is under constructions and may not take 100+ winds. I called them last night and they stated that they were boarded up and prepared for the storm. If it took a northernly turn (which is has) they were gonna come to San Antonio to escape the storm. I just called them and they are still at home and i've basically pleaded with them to hurry up and leave before the traffic gets too bad via hurricane evacuation route U.S. 281.

Well I have to say I am enjoying all the clouds and rain from Dolly. It's nice for it to be a tad cooler. My a/c actually got a chance to stop running all the time.
