I called today to make some ADR for 9/13-9/19. Nothing, I mean nothing available! I realize we planned somewhat last minute and free dining is going on but WOW I am shocked! I thought the main rest. would be full but not everyone I tried. I guess we will cancel the dining plan and grocery shop for the villa.

Yes, most of the popular ADRs are gone. I manage to get a few character meals for the kids during that week but I called months ago. But when I tried to switch around a few I was told nothing was available and to keep trying back.

I have tried to get ADR for our Sept. trip at two of our favorite places and had no luck. I realize now that this is Free Dinning time. We managed to get our reservations at some great places only by chance and calling awhile ago.

I have to admit I am P.O! It is Sept., I understand it was last minute and I am not expecting the world, but something would be nice. We went last Christmas and I had more luck.

Just wondering....what are the exact dates of free dining this year?? Does anyone know? We aren't arriving until 9/28 - hopefully it will be wrapping up by then!

Can I say that I am shocked :scared1: BUT not surprised :confused3 ?
Sorry to hear about your trouble. I am trying now for ADR in Decemebr and am striking out on a few of my choices as well. It's just getting harder and harder to do these things.

I know, it does stink! DH and I always go free dining time of year and luckly, I call well ahead of the time free dining comes out. It makes it very hard to change anything around if plans change. We booked Le Cellier mths ago and I tried changing from dinner time to lunch time but there was nothing available. We have called several times to see if anything opened up for lunch, but nothing.
Have you tried any of the resort restaurants? Maybe they have some availablity. Good luck!

I want to say 8/20--9/20. I think that is what CM told me today. I have to be honest I was mad and not listening though

 I'm with you 100%! Our original plan was to go in Sept, but when I heard about the free dining I knew I would just stay away until it was over.

Yea it's been tough trying to get ADR's. We booked in April and I pretty much got everything I wanted. When I added my parents to the mix our party size jumped from 4 to 6 and there was nothing.
I ended up with a lot of late lunches. The way that I think about it is that just leaves room for some really big delicious desserts!

Free dinning means counter service for those who couldnt/didn't call months in advanced!

Now if all the ADR's are full, does that mean the parks are insane as well?

I certainly hope not!
Bounceback free dining bookings: August 30 - September 27
Bookings in Great Britain for free dining: August 10 - September 27
General public free dining bookings: August 24 - September 20
Which means that anyone who booked free dining could have started this promotion on September 27th and carried it over for the next 14 days, so free dining does indeed run into October. Combine that with Colombus day weekend, anyone going without ADRs could be in trouble if they want to eat at TS locations.
BTW: OP there are some less known places to eat at which include: Turf Club, Olivia's, Boatwright's Dining Hall, Captian's Grill, The Plaza to name a few. Plus if you choose late lunches, your chances are better too. Plus you could try Kona Cafe and the Wave for late lunches too, along with WCC.

Or cancel the dining plan and get some groceries (as you said) but also make some offsite reservations. This might be a great trip to have a car and do a little exploring in Orlando. There are some very good restaurants along International Drive (I love the Tommy Bahama Cafe), Citywalk is worth a stop, the non-DDP hotels (Swan/Dolphin plus the hotels up in the DTD hotel area) have restaurants (some of those even offer Disney character meals), there are restaurants near Crossroads. None of this is very far from WDW.
Also, there is the list of Disney restaurants that don't take ADRs - though I wouldn't want to try those when a bunch of Disney guests have the "free" dining plan and discover that those are the only restaurants available to eat at.

We are doing a last minute dh and I only trip in Sept as well. I called about 1.5 weeks ago, and was lucky enough to snag Mama Melrose, Crystal Palace and Tappan Edo for the exact times we wanted. I was shocked. The only thing is since we are getting the ddp, we wanted to do the MM Fantasmic package which was not available.
I'm sure it helped that it was only for a party of two. Good luck finding somthing. Maybe it will be a good time to try out something new. Maybe even off site.

Well I called again today and alot of the same answers "nope full---nope full---nope full---oh we can sit you at 9pm does that work......Hello a 2 and 4 yo. So we cancelled the dining plan, this is the first time going without it. I might buy the DDE but have not decided if that will help if everything is full. Well good news is the RED SOX are playing the Rays so we will be able to eat there!

OK here is a wierd twist, I could not give up so I called back. I was able to get Cinderella's Castle (4pm), Ohana's, Olivia's (which I could always get), and Crystal Palace. Now I am thinking they were messing with me, well my trip has been saved!

getting closer to the 45 days when Disney wants the rest of the package paid for - or they cancel.
there is one in France that only allows 30 days reservation - it is expensive -but definitely worth it. Bistro de paris

plus look at the hotel restuarants - many times people who are doing free dinning - won't go with these because you are leaving the parks.
here is all the restuarants at Disney

here is a list of the restuarants on the DDP

I can relate to these no Adr's. I planned a grand gathering for my husband's family for Sept. Booked Breakfast, safari dinner and pirate fireworks voyage. No Adr's b/c in laws were not interested. Booked 3 br GV and 1br at OKW. My husband and I booked plane tickets etc. My in laws changed their mind 1 week ago and canceled. I have changed the OKW resy so we can use our points to go again in Dec. but we are eating 1 plane ticket that was nonrefundable and have no Adr's for our immediate family of 6. I still have not canceled our GG resies and have until next Tues when deposit is due. I'm still hoping a few relatives will decide to join us so we can make up the 8 necessary for the GG activities especially the pirate voyage that my 4 kids were really looking forward to! Its not looking good...any thoughts?

We go every September, this year its August 29 - September 8 and while the dining places are nuts, the parks are quite empty. We love this time of year. We can usually do major attractions at MK in a morning. Its great! The weather is very HOT but that makes for great pool hopping!!
Have fun every one and enjoy, and if you don't get the ADR you want, just have a Mickey Bar:mickeybar !!
