I am thinking about a last minute trip with my DS and his DGF for August 20 - 25th. I think we will go with the Dining Plan. Do you think we can get any ADR's? I know Free Dining starts August 24th. I've never planned a trip this quickly. My husband passed away recently and we need something to help distract us from our grief. I think a short trip to Disney World can help.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

First and most importantly, I am so sorry for your loss.

As to ADRs it may be tough but you will be able to find places to eat. We are going Aug 16 - 22. We have been able to get ADRs but not at our first choices (in most cases) It seems that 5pm - 7pm times are pretty full right now (thankfully we wanted later times because of going back to the resort for an afternoon break.) I just called yesterday and did get a 6:50 reservation at Kona. I would suggest trying for your ADRs now but calling when you get there to see what else has become available. We had great luck last few years (even during free dining) of getting same day reservations for the places we really wanted to eat :)

I hope you and your family have a magical trip. We are still recovering fromthe loss of my FIL so I know about seeking the Magic of the Mouse to help thru these difficult times.

and just added an 8:00pm meal at boatwrights and a breakfast for 4 at Kona Cafe at 8:30am - we had a variety of times to choose from so I say call right away - I was very surprised that it was so easy to add these choices.

I am very sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how much you need this trip.

I would suggest calling Disney Dining and if you know basically where you'll be on days (and plan like I do) then ask them what they have at for example "Epcot from 5-7"...They may not have anything till later but stick it out and make some set ADR's. Then keep calling back to see if anything opens up if you didn't get your first choices.

Good Luck and we'll see you in the world!!!

Thanks everyone. I will call and see what I can get.

Also, thank you for your kind words. It's been a difficult eight months. My husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November and passed away on July 7th. His memorial service was on our 34th wedding anniversary.

I think we need this trip.

First off, I'm so sorry for your loss. I know what a difficult time this must be for you and your family.

We're going to be in WDW August 21st- 26th and up until last week I was still changing around our dining plans- there seemed to be quite a lot still available. Also, (not sure if anyone all ready mentioned this or not) check the August dining reservation trade/cancel thread- just a week or so ago I was able to get a Le Cellier res from someone who posted a cancelation.
