We are flying into Pearson on the 8th and every rental agency seems to add 200.00 to pick ups at the airport. we found this one that mappoint says is only 15 mins from the airport.

National Car Rental
TORONTO - HWY #400 / FINCH
75 Arrow Road
Toronto,ON M9m 2l4

We can get it for just under 300.00 compared to over 500 at the airport.

Does anyone know if it's really that close to the airport ? Is there an easy way to get to it ? Can we take a cab or shuttle easily ?

It's not close like next door, but a cab should not cost you more than $25.00 flat rate to there from the airport.

Google map, click here (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=75+Arrow+Road,+toronto,+ontario,+M9m+2l4&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=45.149289,73.828125&ie=UTF8&ll=43.700148,-79.50737&spn=0.161833,0.288391&z=12&iwloc=addr)...

It isn't that close. That is closer to Canada's Wonderland than to the airport. It looks like it will cost about $34 flat rate if you look at the GTA taxi tariffs rate map. That rate is from 2006, I don't know if the price has gone up since then though. Here is the link http://www.gtaa.com/local/files/en/easttaxi_tariff_map.pdf

Is there a shuttle service that we could use maybe ? Even one we book like when we go to WDW ?

I wouldn't think that Hwy400/Finch would be very close to the airport. However if you took a taxi round trip, it would definitely work out to less than $200.

In the way of shuttle service, you could consider GO Transit (http://www.gotransit.com/public/en/destinations/airport.htm). They shuttle to Yorkdale Mall, York Mills (both are on the subway), and Richmond Hill Centre and Square One Mall in Mississauga. If you can use a group pass (http://www.gotransit.com/PUBLIC/en/FARES/TICKETS.HTM), then the fare (one way) would be less than $20 total, possibly less than $15. One of these places may be easier to get transportation from.

Alternatively, there's the Airport Express (http://www.torontoairportexpress.com/). They're less cost effective than GO, particularly if you have a family. However, they run more frequently and service more places (from what I can tell).

I'm not sure where you're staying, but that could make a big impact. If your hotel has a shuttle, you could always do that and pick up the rental car near your hotel. Alternatively, if you're downtown, one of the services above could get you to your hotel and then possibly you might not need a car. You could also see about renting with Enterprise and doing the "we'll pick you up" deal.

I also found this page:

http://www.toronto.com/community/article/000-360-792

Which was written a few years ago (i.e. prices will be out of date), but it does list a lot of options.

Good luck!

OP what are you doing in the Toronto area that requires a car?
Good points have been made about public transit.

There is also a National car rental at Dixe & the 401 in Mississauga.
About 9km from Pearson.

Great lnk to the taxi tariffs map.:thumbsup2
The Arrow road National location is 1/2 way between Pearson and Wonderland.

We won't be in Toronto. We are only flying into Pearson.

We will be staying in Belleville and driving back and forth to Toronto, Oshawa, Brantford, Niagara Falls etc.

We are flying out to find a house to rent. We are moving from BC to Oshawa area. We're taking a week to look for a house before we come back to get the kids and our stuff.

A rental is a must. We just want to get it from a cheaper location than the airport. I found a taxi fare calculator that showed it costing about 22.00 using a running meter at the approx time we will be there.

I'm thinking getting a cab there will be the simpliest way so that we don't have to stress about what to use. It's so complicated lol

My dad was supposed to pick us up and we were going to rent from Belleville until he mentioned it to my Uncle who decided that it didn't make sense for them to come get us when it would take them 5-6 hrs driving plus about as much fuel as the 200 we would save plus put wear and tear on their vehicle when we could just pay more and have that wear and tear on the rental and we would only need to drive the 3 hrs one day.

So now we have to find our way to a rental agency that is close enough to get to but not at the airport. The airport ones want 500.00 for a week. The others are 289.00

Everyone has their own opinion on which is best. Just because everyone else is moving to BC doesn't mean it's the place to be.

You know, there are 2 National Car Rentals that are so much closer to the airport. The closest is at 600 Dixon Rd and another one 5 minutes away from that one at 301 Rexdale Blvd. They are much easier to get to from the airport because of there proximity to it.

catrinabeach...

This site was much cheaper than the prices you mentioned.

http://www.discountcar.com/English/Reservation.cfm

Discount Rental on Dixon Road is an airport location and showed some pretty reasonable prices.

Good Luck!

Maybe there is a good reason for moving back, family or better job here. We lived in Alberta when I was a kid and moved back after being away from all our family for two years. It was a nice place but not that nice to get over that loneliness we all felt.

I was just curious, as i have alot of freinds who have left the gta area for b.c, and are making a higher income with better benefits, thats all...

with GM closing oshawa will soon be a ghost town in my opinion...

I have been to BC, and thought about moving there, but when we looked at housing we realized it wasn't worth it.
Pretty much everything in BC is more expensive than in Ontario, from what I experienced.
To indicate that Oshawa will falter or become a ghost town after GM closes is ridiculous.
The town was there prior to GM,it will survive.
Think of places such as Oakville, and Alliston. They wouldn't shut down if the auto plants there closed.

The airport Holiday Inns have airport shuttles (I just stayed at the Holiday Inn Select Airport on Sunday night). I would call them and ask if you can use their shuttle service if you're just picking up a rental car and not staying overnight.

As for where they want to move, it's none of my business, but East-end GTA is much cheaper than other areas and if I had to move to the GTA, I'd be considering Pickering, etc. I also bet you can get a heck of a deal on a house in Oshawa or Bowmanville right now. If you're not in an auto-industry dependent career, you could do very well.

Thank you. I just changed our reservation to the one at the holiday inn. We will take their shuttle from the airport. It's still 150.00 more than the one a little farther away, but about a 100 cheaper than at the airport lol.

We will probably spend the night at that hotel on our last night. we leave at 6:30 am and I don't want to drive from Belleville to get there on time.

Thanks for everyone's help !
