I disagree, I think it will make ADRs harder to get. More people will be making ADRs and not keeping them

I think it's a good idea, but I do think their should either be put a limit on it or it should only be open to onsite guests.

About time IMO, I think there will be teething problems but that it will ultimately work out better than the current system.

More likely to be Disneys website that goes down, took me ages to get an online quote once as the pages kept failing to load. Disney websites are a :headache:

I wonder how the +10 option will work for people like me who have booked via a UK operator (VH) and not Disney. I'm assuming I'll still be able to phone.

I have mixed feelings on this and I must admit I love talking to the cast members on the phone it makes you feel like you are there. Im also a little concerned this new system may be abused.

Never made an ADR yet in almost 20 visits, once they are available online I will be very tempted, August we are planning on eating at Boma, Trails End and Beeches and cream, personally don't think its worth the phone call to make ADR's. If we can't get in when we turn up we will eat offsite. But if I could do them online I probably would book at least Boma.
Its like MNSSHP, I have booked online, if that facility was not there I would not ring and book, just wait until we got there.
I just don't use a phone, I haven't had a mobile for 3 months now, DW keeps telling me to order one but I only make 1 or 2 calls a month, not worth having. Why text when we have emails?:confused3

I think it's a great idea. :thumbsup2
Depending on how they set it up, it might make it more difficult for folks to abuse. For example, the system might only let you have one reservation at any specific time. This would stop folks from having multiple breakfast/lunch/dinner ressies at different parks for the same time and day to keep their options open.
If it's done right, an online ADR system could be fabulous. :goodvibes

I like the idea of being able to see what's available, if I know there is plenty of availability at a restaurant I want to eat at, I can keep my options open until nearer the time rather than having to make changes to ADR's made 180 days out when I want to change my plans.
One issue from a UK perspective will be if you need to enter a Disney Reservation number to book the +10 option since many book packages rather than directly with WDW.

That's good news I hate phoning because nobody can understand my accent

i have never really understood the ADR thing, how is it possible to know what you want to eat months in advance, for me it depends on all sorts of factors like, am i hungry, what is weather like, am i jet lagged. I agree with Wayneg, if there is not room for me when i turn up then i wil eat elsewhere.
There is too much choice offsite anyway.

Just seen this additional info from http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining.htm
NEW DINING RESERVATION SYSTEM IN THE WORKS
Disney will begin implementing a new reservation system that combines dining, recreation and tour bookings.
The conversion will start on July 21, 2008 and is expected to be functioning on October 24. While this is taking place, the latest dining reservation date which can be booked in advance is January 25, 2009. Once the new system is operating, it will revert to the 180 day Advance Dining Reservation window.
The exceptions to the shortened ADR booking window are Cinderella's Royal Table, Chef Mickey's and Victoria & Albert's.

Im also a little concerned this new system may be abused.
That is my concern, people making more ADRs then they intend to use to keep there options of where to eat because it is easier for them to make them.
Less likely to do this on the phone as people will be more worried about a CM saying something about having alot of ADRs on one day.

The system is totally abused now, you can make reservations to numerous places for same evening. If the online software is adequate it should cut the abuse but I guess there is no way of stopping making reservations in different names. Only way to cut abuse is take a minimal deposit, say $5/booking. Many would think twice then. Or make you register and have an account with credit card authorization only allowing 1 reservation per evening.
So many ways to cut abuse online, very difficult the current way imo.

Yes, I think credit card authorisation is a good idea like they do on some of the more popular meals. People always search for ways to cheat the system though. I have noticed that on these boards.

I've got to say I always enjoy phoning to make my ADRs. I enjoy chatting with the CM and it makes the whole planning seem more magical.
