Still no call from Disney informing me that my lunch at Garden Grill on Dec 12th is being cancelled!

For people who don't read these boards will be in for a big surprise when they show up for lunch! Very cool of Disney to call patrons up and inform them of cancellations so they can book over ADR's. Won't be any spots open....

Last year we had reservations at Alfredo's and we received a letter that it will be closed. And received priority seating for Illuminations. Maybe that's what they are doing.

Ya think they would contact as soon as they started making changes. :confused3

I was told by a dining CM two days ago no more lunch at Garden Grill. You should get a call but I doubt it. When they closed Teppan Edo last year I was never called found out about it on a web site. Bummer I know. OIf it was me I would call and make another ADR.:)

I was just told by a friend who just talked to CM that Disney is calling people today to inform them of changes. My friend just called. There is little left for her to book. (Dec12) the eariest Dining for dinner she could get in Epcot was 7:45. She was angry that Disney hadn't informed her family earlier to give her a chance to book elsewhere and a place early enough for her kids to eat at!

Not Good Business!

Charleyann

I am booking Rainforest Cafe. How is the food? What about Planet Hollywod?

You can't be serious  Your lunch is almost 5 months away and you're concerned about not getting a call yet?? I don't have anything polite to say, so I'll just shut up. :sad2:

I'm wondering if they will call. My CAA TA hasn't called yet. I just figure worse comes to worse we just eat cs but considering epcot is a big place I'm sure we'll find somewhere to eat.

Since you're aware of the situation, why not make alternate ADRs now? Don't wait for others to get their calls and possibly get the ADRs you want.

My guess is that whomever is assigned to the phone calls is probably working their way through the list and simply hasn't gotten to the OP's yet.

You didn't read the whole thing! No, I am not concerned! I booked another ADR weeks ago.My friend didn't know as she was away on vacation. I told her and she was upset and called. They told her she should be called yesterday). That didn't happen! FYI....she couldn't get a another ADR until 7:45. (anything the kids would like)this is late when you have children who need to be feed! . Too late to make ADR's for middle December too and get something you want and the time preferred!

I think it is bad business for Disney not to have called their Patrons especially way into the the 180 day mark and near Christmas! These are paying customers....Changing to Dinner often cost a family an extra $50-$100 dollars more. Peopel budget!

I have never eaten at Rainforest Cafe and Planet Hollywood. Was asking for myself here because I wanted to try! I had nothing to due with lunch being cancelled....

There is NO NEED to get rude! Would you like rudiness thrown at you for simpling stating your opinion? Not everyone reads these boards . Some people still dont know!

:thumbsup2 Obviously some people have never had to call WDW Dining and be told there is nothing available that day at the place they choose or even someplace in the same park. I have had it happen and it stinks, especially when you have kids.

I haven't gotten a call and my lunch res is in October. If I hadn't read it I'd be counting on it. The first DisDin person I spoke w/ said they were just doing away w/ the characters @ lunch! Wrong. :sad1: We really wanted to eat @ GG for an early lunch and Le Cellier for dinner. We are only in Epcot 1 day so I called at 180 and got both! NOW I obviously don't have lunch at GG and don't want to give up the tough to get res at LeCell. The person saying "what are you worried about" is going to be surprised when they don't have any ADRs; it gets harder to get in the good places every year.

Good luck to those of you that will need to rebook. :wizard:

It is sad that we pretty much need to decide 180 days in advance, but their closings provide much less warning than that... :rolleyes1

I have an ADR for 10.20.08 and haven't received a call yet. We've decided to chow down on the Food & Wine offerings instead of booking another TS, so I don't need to call them. I"ll be pretty disappointed if I don't hear anything from Disney about it - that's just poor service!

We ate at PH last year and our whole family LOVED the food here. We also liked 'looking around" at all the memoriablia! Of course.... DD5 was not real thrilled to be seated next to the Chucky Doll (from Childs Play) but we do have nice pic of her posing (somewhat) with Chucky! :scared1:

I'd love my son to sit down and then see Chucky! It would scare the hebeegebees out of him:rotfl: I seen one at Bangor mall. Really wanted to bring Chucky home!!!!

I think I am going to try both Planet Hollywood and Rainforest Cafe! Thanks Folks!

 We were just informed that Garden Grill at Epcot is no longer having character lunches anymore. I got the call from WDW on 7/16 stating the last day is 10/6 and they were only doing the character dinners so now :confused3 we have to look for another lunch place our reservation was for 10/9. Disney seems to be cutting down their choices for character dinning in general.

OMG! Thank you for putting the date in there! I had not heard GG was stopping lunch and we have an ADR on 9/28. Was worried we wouldn't get anything else with the free dining crowds and all.

We had a lunch ADR at GG for October 15th and they just called this evening. I'm glad they did at least call but it should have been much sooner, IMO. We called weeks ago to book another character meal and it took days of calling to find something and we still didn't get a very good time.

I'm happy to have something but I really feel bad for those who didn't know until now and may not be able to even get into a character meal at all.

Ive read that they are offering lunch at Chef Mickeys during free dining. Why not continue that for a little while to give those with ADR's at GG an option for lunch? Just a thought.

I told her and she was upset and called. They told her she should be called yesterday). That didn't happen! FYI.... Operative words highlighted... Changing to Dinner often cost a family an extra $50-$100 dollars more. Peopel budget! This is lunch, not dinner; and five months should be plenty of time to find a table service restaurant with availability and in the same price range as the original meal; or to choose among a wide variety of counter service options (for less money).

OMG! Thank you for putting the date in there! I had not heard GG was stopping lunch and we have an ADR on 9/28. Was worried we wouldn't get anything else with the free dining crowds and all. Probably at least part of why 10/9 was chosen - Free Dining Guests who booked last September's Future Stay promotion can check in as late as September 28 and get the package up to ten (or fourteen) nights. Ending the GG lunch after that should accommodate all or at least most of the Free Dining Guests.

Ive read that they are offering lunch at Chef Mickeys during free dining. Why not continue that for a little while to give those with ADR's at GG an option for lunch? Just a thought. And if many/most/all those diners don't want lunch at Chef Mickey's in place of Garden Grill - because it's inconvenient to their plans, or they already ate there, or it doesn't rotate... and how do you restrict it TO just the displaced GG Guests? Remember, Chef Mickey's isn't geared to serve lunch - they expand the offering a very few weeks a year to accommodate the popularity of Free Dining, and to potentially reduce or avoid complaints of "I have these credits and nowhere to use them!".

She couldn't find another character lunch . She already had Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey booked. She has opted to do just counter service and use the money for another park Character meal.

She had the right to be upset with Disney. They have know well in advance. Her trip is is December, when it is harder to get the ADR's you like and at a suitable time with children.

She has yet to be called. I haven't either, but reading these boards, I immediately made ADR's elasewhere and left mine as they stood incase this was a rumor. My friend was away on vacation and just found out from me upon her return.

Disney has the right to do as they please. It is still bad business and poor customer relations to not notifiy patron's sooner.

I was never informed when Tony's closed for breakfast- didn't know, showed up at 8 am only to find the place closed. I was so upset- and went to Town hall... and was told, sorry.

That was back in 2001 and CP was closed for rehab? AM I remembering right?

Tony's opened later that day and we were told we could have the 1st ressie, so that's what we did.

I was in tears as we sat there at 8 am- and no place to eat that morning. Seriously, the people at Town Hall looked at me as if I was a crazy lady in tears, explaining that I had a 4, 7, and 10 year old children - who I thought would be eating breakfast- that someone should have informed me by phone or resort SINCE that info is taken at the time of making it.

All they said was sorry and when Tony's opened we could have the first ressies.

Lunch at the Garden Grill is being discontinued as of October 6. Your neighbor, if they have a lunch reservation, should start looking for a new lunch reservation or plan on eating counter service.

If they have a dinner reservation, that won't be affected.

All official WDW reports I have read state they are eliminating LUNCH ONLY and will still serve dinner.

If you have a lunch booked there on or after October 6 you will need a new reservation elsewhere for table service.
