Hi all -

My hubby and I had been planning to visit WDW in September, and on the spur of the moment this week we booked a 4-day cruise on the Wonder sailing 9/15. Unfortunately, DH booked it without doing ANY research (can't complain though....he doesn't usually show this kind of initiative :D ) and booked a cabin with a navigator verandah. He didn't realize that it was enclosed......is this cabin even worth staying in, or should we bump up to a real balcony or down to an outside stateroom with no verandah at all? I'm pretty confused!

Your husband made a good choice. On our 2nd cruise we stayed in a Nav. Verandah and loved it. By being enclosed except for the large open porthole it is much more private and the wind is cut down. It's also located in the aft part of the ship, which is our favorite. If you go to Barb's web site @ www. ******************
she has pictures of the nav. verandah.

Enjoy and welcome.

we stayed in this type of cabin on the magic in 11/01. it was great. has a nautical theme, partially inclosed, has a giant open circle window. has small table and padded bench. i liked it alot. would book the same again. is it worth the extra bucks for a regular verandah--not for us we only were in the room long enough to change clothes and sleep--but it is nice to go out for a breath of fresh air--i would stay with the navigator! there is a web site somewhere that has pictures of the room ( i don't remember the address--sorry)

So......the window is open, not glass? I'm assuming that that is where the breeze comes from...If that's the case, then I'm sure we'll be perfectly happy! Actually, I'll be happy anyway just to be there, but we had a balcony on the first cruise we took that DH really enjoyed.

Yes, it is an open-air verandah. The window (porthole) is really big, probably 5 feet in diameter. I'll throw my vote in for the Navigator's Verandah as well. Are they as good as the regular verandah's? No. BUT...for the money, I think they're much better.

On our last cruise we had a Nav. Ver. We have had oceanview,
regular verandah and the Nav. All three of us now prefer the Nav. You can sit out there with your paper, book, or whatever, have your drink or food and drink...and not worry about being
blown away by the breeze. You still get the benefits of the breeze..because like someone said....the opening is like 4-5 in diameter and it is open. At night you can still leave the door open if you like and you can still look out and see everything.

Personally, I think your DH made a great choice.

Which side are are you on. We are on the same cruise. It doesn't seem to be a very popular week for DIS members, but maybe we can schedule a DIS cruise next time.

We have had both Navigator and regular. For the savings, and the amount of time we spent on the veranda, we have another Navigator booked for next year. I really liked the location, just walk up 2 flights of steps, and there you are at the 24 hour beverage station. Really handy for ice, water, and that morning coffee!

Enjoy!

I absolutely loved our Navigator's Veranda on our first cruise in February. Like others have said, you get this wonderful breeze but it's not too windy. Sitting out there every morning having coffee and danishes was an absolute delight.

But there was something else about that veranda... some beautifully romantic aspect to it that I can't explain. Leaning back into the curve of that giant porthole... staring up at the millions of stars, with this wonderful cozy feeling of the veranda around you... It is just indescribable.

And my terrific DU agent, Donna, knowing how much I loved that stateroom (5132,) got us booked back into it for next February. :) I'm ready to go NOW!! :D

I'm really happy reading all of the positive posts abour the Navigator Veranda's. On our first two cruises we were mid-ship with a regular veranda and loved it. I love to go out in the morning and read or watch the world sail by. For our May 12th cruise we booked a Navigator and I can't wait to try it out.

idontknow....

We're on the starboard side at the back of the ship...cabin 7628. Booking this cruise was literally a spur of the moment thing. We came up with the idea on Monday, and by Tuesday morning it was booked! September is a slow time for travel in general...which is why the rates are so good!:p

vllygrrl - 7628 is the cabin I am in May 12th! And just like WDWLVR, I've had a regular verandah and am now anxious to see what the Navigator's Verandah is like. I'm sure it will be great. The regular verandah was a bit too windy at times.

We loved the navigator's verandah and were concerned about it not being "open enough" but it was FANTASTIC.....I don't want another one now.

We thought it was great, just enough breeze, kids were very safe out on balcony!!

Taswira -

How funny is that? Please be sure to let me know how the cabin was, and enjoy your trip - it's coming up very quickly!!! I'll be getting back from WDW the day you embark....:( ....and then begins the long wait until September;) .

Cabin 5132 is our room on the May 25th Western! Were you on the Magic or Wonder? What did you like so much about the room?

We are on the sept 15 wonder as well! I thought we were the only ones.

I have no idea what our cabin is. Somewhere on deck 6. I'll double check & see.

Do we have enough people to start our own thread??

WDW? Since I'll be frequenting all the theme parks most of the month, we might even run into each other! If you spot a middle-aged blonde with a lime green ribbon on her purse and with no kids, it MIGHT be me. I'll definitely let you know about the cabin after the cruise ;-).

What a hoot! we're in cabin 7626, Hi neighbor!

I'll PM you with the reasons why we chose a nav veranda cabin. I don't want to start another war on this board..........

I love 5132 because it's just in a great location. (We were on the Magic.) It's the forward-most cat. 7 cabin, which makes it convenient to the aft lifts and the Oceaneer Club. That was a huge plus for us, with all the back-and-forth we did between there and our stateroom. And it's still aft, which meant it was nice and quiet. The aft lifts were rarely crowded, also. 5132 is on the port side, which gave us great views of the docking procedure at Castaway Cay -- which DS and I both found fascinating. :) And we had gorgeous views when we woke up in St. Thomas.

Hope this helps!

To Idontknow:
Why would it start a war if you stated your opinions on why you like the nav veranda? I am actually interested to hear your opinions (and everyone else's for that matter). That's why I read these boards. If someone disagrees, fine, they can book a regular veranda.

Please do post your opinions....I am finding this thread very interesting. We were in a cat10 last time and will be this time too but when we do manage to upgrade for a future trip it will probably be the navigators veranda for us.

Idontknow, I am ALSO curious and would like to read your opinions. I was in a nice Cat 5 mid-ship with regular verandah last time and loved it except for it being a bit too breezy sometimes. This time I chose the Navigator's Verandah because I am travelling alone and couldn't see paying for a regular verandah, PLUS because the Cat 7 sounded nice and I am curious about what it is like. I think it might mean less wind, more privacy, yet still having my own open (BIG open porthole on the Wonder) view and fresh air. Even if I end up loving it, that doesn't mean I will think less of the regular verandah cabins and never stay in them, but it will mean the Cat 7 will always be a slightly more affordable option that I could be HAPPY with. So what is the potential for "war"? I think we are all really curious.

I'd like to hear the reasons too. I agree with taswira that it won't change my opinion of regular verandas and those who want them. My first two cruises were with regular verandas.

I don't think things would get as heated as the DVC board where people get really into thier "homes". Of course I don't get those debates either. I'm happy with what I pick and if it is something someone else doesn't like that is their problem not mine.

So please let us hear your reasons for the Navigator.

Check your PMs for the explination.

I think we will all be happy with our nav verandas. I chose the cat. for reasons that suite our family. I am really looking forward to our trip and can not wait! I really can not see spending the extra money for a fullview veranda, but that is just me. When we stayed at the Poly we were assigned the second floor. There are no balconies on the second floor, but the sliding glass door is there, you just can not go out. We were very happy with it. I don't think I would have liked the first floor with everyone being right there next to us as they walked by. A balcony would have been nice on the third floor, but we were very content with just having the huge door to open. But, that is just how we look at things. Everyone is different. There are people that would not be comfortable without the fullview veranda. If that is what makes them comfortable and happy, go for it. That is why we take vacations.....to relax and have a good time.

I think that for some families just having a porthole is a splurge, so the navigator's verandah would be wonderful! Actually I suspect that going on any Disney cruise would be great, no matter where your bed was :)

We considered it too, but decided to save it for next time, when we hope to have a (slightly) larger family.

Does anyone on the 9-15 have toddlers?
